Compositions

Muyco, Maria Christine 05 1900 (has links)
The succeeding pages contain scores of my music—Passage to Kublb, Dalamhati ni Osang, Pintig, and Talibun-ag. "Passage to kublb" , for large orchestra, is a travelogue. Using a certain number of intervals, the instruments go through a journey, signifying life's constant changes and ceaseless motion. Melodic and rhythmic motives are used, fragmentation, and variation of timbral colors. "Kublb" is a fictional place; in essence, a destination of one's life journey. "Dalamhati ni Osang" (Lament of Osang) for a soprano, bass clarinet and marimba, is a composition revolving around a hextatonic scale which goes through a process of change as the music progresses. The text, written in the Filipino language, conveys the lament of a woman wanting to escape from her sorrows as she pleads her beloved to "lull" her; thus the repeated phrase "iduyan mo, o hirang" which means lull me or cradle me, my beloved. The woman's concept of "sleep" is an end-goal from which she frees herself of bitter memories of the past. The nuances of the vocal lines point to some native materials common to the Filipino "kundiman"(ballad). Use of expressive lines in legato phrasing, repeated sections (ABA form), and in some instances, use of embellishments like the repeated grace notes. The hextatonic scale is the composer's own material injected to some pre-formed structure already existing as in the mentioned ballad. "Pintig" (Pulses of Mother Earth) which was originally written for the "Elektra Women's Choir" during a pre-Christmas choral reading is a study of tribal vocables and different vocal effects. Stomping of foot, tapping, and other ritual sounds are employed to concoct an amalgam of primitive or earthy vista. (Note that the recording provided with this thesis is simply a reading session of the piece). "Talibun-ag " is a coined title from the Filipino words "tali" and "bun-ag" (bondage and birth) which if combined literally can mean "birth of freedom". This is a music drama for a chamber ensemble (piano, alto flute and percussions), a mono-dramatist and a choral quartet.

Bilici, Seyma January 2011 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine how some social workers in Sweden describe the social work with unaccompanied children. Emphasis was on the role of culture in social work with the unaccompanied children. I wanted to examine how the social workers describe their view on social work with unaccompanied. I also wanted to examine how the social workers describe their view at their own and the unaccompanied children’s cultural backgrounds influence on the social work with the unaccompanied. The study is based on qualitative interviews with four social workers. The empirical material was analysed based on the theories ethnocentrism and symbolic interactionism. The results of the study shows that both the social workers and the unaccompanied children’s cultural background effects social work. The social workers cultural background has a particular effect on the meetings with the unaccompanied children. The social workers capacity to fully understand the unaccompanied clients is limited for cultural factors.

Ensamkommande flyktingbarn i media : - en diskursanalys

Mahieu, Elsa, Olsbänning, Cecilia January 2014 (has links)
This research intends to study the media's representation of unaccompanied refugee children on the basis that the media has a power in the construction of society. The focus is on whether children's vulnerability and needs are presented in the media and whether the children’s voices are heard. It is also of interest to study the agents that speak in the media concerning unaccompanied refugee children. The study is based on a theory that social reality is a construction of interaction between individuals and groups. Furthermore the study also incorporate the idea that the media, through its control of language, has power to create discourses which may affect the way different groups in society are looked upon. The research’s questions are guiding us through a discourse analysis of articles about unaccompanied refugee children. The articles were selected from Sweden's four mostly read online newspapers; Aftonbladet, Expressen, Dagens Nyheter and Svenska Dagbladet. The results show that the media portrays unaccompanied refugee children as a vulnerable group in need of society resources. It also shows that children do not become involved and that their voices are not heard in the articles. When it comes to unaccompanied refugee children in the media, other agents tend to pronounce their statements instead of the children. The conclusion of the study is that the unaccompanied refugee children do not get the possibility to participate in the media and therefor the children’s own perspectives are missing.

Experiences of unaccompanied minors : an exploratory study conducted with refugee children

Magqibelo, Lungile. January 2010 (has links)

The main aim of this study was to explore lived experiences of unaccompanied foreign minors in South Africa from a social work perspective. An important goal was to also explore the lack of guidelines on how to assist these young people. This study was conducted in a Children&rsquo / s Shelter, which is situated in the North-Eastern outskirts of Polokwane, where a group of unaccompanied refugee children from Zimbabwe were living. This study was qualitative and explorative in nature. Non-probability sampling was used to select participants for the study. Ten children were selected, ranging from age 14 to 18 years. Semi-structured interviews with the children and a focus group discussion with five care workers were held. Thematic analysis was used. The findings of this study revealed that services by government social workers are limited compared to those from social workers employed with nongovernmental organisations. It is hoped that this study will assist government and other role players in planning, advocacy and policy development related to the issues affecting unaccompanied refugee children.

Nilsson, Lotta January 2014 (has links)
Titel: To stand in the hallway and wishing to join in: Unaccompanied minor refugees and their needs. A qualitative study about the needs among these children and youths. Author: Lotta Nilsson The purpose of this study has been to investigate what needs unaccompanied minor refugees have, both as newly arrived and after leaving a HVB-home. The purpose has also been to compare their needs with the perceived needs that form the basis for the reception process in Sweden. The study is qualitative with semi-structured interviews with five young men from Afghanistan, Somalia and Russia, as well as with an integration officer at the county administration and teachers working with the integration program. The results show that the needs vary between the informants, but that the needs for belonging and longing for the homeland are needs that they all have in common. What also becomes apparent is how different needs affect the individual choices and the ability to concentrate and focus. The reception of newly arrived on the other hand has been formed after a Swedish model where education and language are seen as preconditions for successful integration and belonging. This connection is not entirely correct. The theories used in this thesis are, among others, Maslow’s ”A theory of human motivation” and van Gennep’s ”rites of passage”.

Ternstedt, Amanda January 2015 (has links)
Since 2004, the amount of unaccompanied children in Sweden has increased and 2014 over 7000 children came here. An unaccompanied child is a child who is coming without its parents or someone who can act in their place. The most common health problem among unaccompanied children is mental illness, for instance because of traumatic incidents in their lives. The aim of this study is to describe the involved persons’ opinions about unaccompanied children’s opportunities for good health. The surveys for the study have been conducted by eight qualitative separate interviews. The persons interviewed were people who in some way have continuous contact with unaccompanied children in a smaller district in the middle of Sweden. The interviews were analyzed in a manifest content analysis. The ethic principles for research and trustworthiness have been observed during the study. The result shows that integration, support and engagement from the community, school and persons involved were experienced as conditions for unaccompanied childrens health. Several factors were considered influence unaccompanied children’s health, for example trauma, education, social relations and the possibility of recreational activities. The persons involved considered that these factors also could influence and be crucial for each other. The conclusions were that there are some factors that to a greater extent are experienced to influence unaccompanied children’s opportunities for good health. Even though the unaccompanied children in some degree are considered to have good opportunities, there are several ways of improving and increasing their possibilities for good health.

Fantastiskt, omväxlande, berikande! Ingen dag är den andra lik ! : "Arbete med ensamkommande barn" / Fantastic, alternate, enriching! No day is ever the same ! : "Work with unaccompanied minors"

Pavlov, Tatjana, Nordling, Kerstin January 2013 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to develop knowledge of how the professional staff works with unaccompanied asylum seeking children and by the empowerment perspective work to allow the children's participation, inclusion and integration into society. Furthermore, the study aims also to highlight how the residential staff at HVB-homes themselves regards this work. The issues highlighted are: What in the work approach creates opportunities for unaccompanied children's participation in society, according to residential staff at HVB-homes? Is there differences between residential staff at HVB-homes on what one thinks about working with participative work? If so, can these differences be explained by gender, age, education, experience, etc. in working with unaccompanied minors? Methods used in the study have a quantitative and a qualitative approach and includes a survey and three interviews conducted with residential staff at HVB-homes in Kalmar County. The result is interpreted by the empowerment perspective and explained by means of the concepts of participation, inclusion and integration. The analysis of the study is based on our concepts, previous research and theory and are interpreted using graphs constructed in SPSS software and interpretation of the three interviews. The result of the studie show us that residential staff have a respectful attitude in their approach to the unaccompanied children. The study illustrates the residential staffs sensitivity to children's views, the importance of being consistent, affirmative and to possess the ability to see in a comprehensive view. The results also show that security and trust are important features of the residential staff attitudes that creates potential for the children participate in different contexts, which contributes to social inclusion and simultaneously increased acceptance and integration into society. The result of the study illustrates that there are no significant differences between staff in what one believes about working with participative work. Our conclusion is that residential staff in Kalmar County has a positive approach that creates opportunities for the unaccompanied children's participation and inclusion in communities that lead to integration into society.

Professionalitet eller föräldrarskap? : Hur gode män till ensamkommande barn konstruerar innebörden av godmanskapet / Professionalism or parenthood? : How guardians to unaccompanied asylum-seeking children construct the meaning of the assignment.

Hanna, Hellman, Julia, Andersson January 2015 (has links)
The aim of this study was to examine constructions of the guardianship to unaccompanied asylum-seeking children. More specifically its aim was to, through the guardians’ perspective, understand and analyze how they construct the guardianship. The study was based on individual semi-structured interviews with questions concerning the guardianship and the role as a guardian. Seven interview-participants, who are active as guardians in diverse municipalities in southern Sweden, are included in this study. The analysis was based on how the guardians describe the assignments in the guardianship, the unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and their needs and how they describe the relationship to them. As a conclusion we found two different constructions of the guardianship; one characterized by a guardianship based on limits, distance, clarity of role and assignments and a guardian similar to a tutor. The other perspective is characterized by a guardianship based on no limits for assignments, a close and familiar relationship to the children and a guardian similar to a parent or a friend. We found that the guardians are dominated by different types of social actions that affect the guardianship based on how they constructed the guardianship, the unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and the relationship.

De Lorenzi, Olivia, Persson, Amalia January 2018 (has links)
This study is about volunteer workers and their experiences about having an unaccompanied that has been written up in age to over 18 years by the Swedish Migration Agency. The study focuses on the importance of the volunteering that the network “Blomman” has done for the unaccompanied. The study is based on six semistructured interviews that we had with seven individuals. The informants are volunteers that have opened their homes for the unaccompanied. The result shows the importance of volunteering when it comes to the handling of unaccompanied. The volunteers contribute with human compassion and emotional commitment. However it appeared that theoretical knowledge might be required to handle the challenges that the volunteers will encounter.

Yttre förändring och inre anpassning : Organisation och arbete inom tre kommuners stödboenden för ensamkommande ungdomar / External change and internal adjustment : Organisation and work in supported housing for unaccompanied youths in three municipalities

Höglund, Petra January 2018 (has links)
The Swedish child welfare system allows a possibility to place children in out-of-home-care. In 2016 a new form of placement was introduced: supported housing [stödboende]. The main purpose of a placement in supported housing is to prepare the residents – young people between the ages of 16 and 20 – for an independent life and living. Unaccompanied youths constitutes a category of service-users that has become relevant for placement in supported housing due to the assumption that they are in need of support-oriented rather that treatment- and care-oriented services. The purpose of this master’s thesis is to analyse how supported housing units for unaccompanied youths are organised and how the staff describe working to ensure the independence of the youths. To meet the purpose of the study, supported housing units in three Swedish municipalities have been studied through a total of 15 semi-structured interviews with section managers, unit managers, coordinators and staff. Supported housing for unaccompanied youths has been studied as an organisational idea which has been received and adopted in the municipalities. To understand how external pressure and internal processes influence the units and the work, an organisational perspective has been applied on the empirical material, through new institutionalism and Lipsky’s theory of street-level bureaucracies. From Said’s theory of orientalism the construction of “the other” is used as a complement to also understand how different constructions of residents and work with independency are expressed. The results of the study indicates that the organisation of the units and the work within them are highly affected by external factors, such as reduced economical resources and the situation in which many of the placed youths are still awaiting decisions on their asylum applications due to long processing times at the Swedish Migration Agency. This leads to great challenges both in terms of organisation and work. To meet the needs of the situation informal adjustments of routines and work are often made by both managers and staff. Concerning the work with independency, a division of three becomes visible: practical, societal and emotional/social independency. How the work is conducted seems to be influenced not only by the discretion of the staff, but also by whether or not the youths have received a residential permit. An important conclusion is the emergence of a construction of the “ideal” supported housing unit, where the placed youths can practice on standing on their own two feet in a safe environment. However there is also a parallel construction of “reality”, where challenges beyond the control of the staff and managers highly affect the units and the organisation of the work, including economical resources, the Swedish asylum politics, other social service actors, as well as the mental health of the placed youths.
