The Decay of Romanticism in the Poetry of Thomas HardyWartes, Carolynn L. 12 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to demonstrate that the concept of a godless universe governed by a consciousless and conscienceless Immanent Will in Hardy's poetry is an ineluctable outcome, given the expanded scientific knowledge of the nineteenth century, of the pantheistic views of the English Romantic poets. The purpose is accomplished by tracing characteristically Romantic attitudes through the representative poetry of the early Victorian period and in Hardy's poetry.
The first chapter is a brief introduction. Chapter II surveys major Romantic themes, illustrating them in Wordsworth's poetry. Chapter III treats the decline of the Romantic vision in the poetry of Tennyson and Arnold. Hardy's views and the Victorian poets' influence are the subject of Chapter IV. Chapter V demonstrates Wordsworth's influence on Hardy in several areas.

This thesis proposes a theorical discourse on the fictional mediation, more particularly in the novels of our corpus. From a rhetorical perspective, the research consists in studying the process of implementation of the signification in the literary works. The communication appears to it not as a stable and simple datum which we could reduce to formal appearances or still to sociohistorical contents, but as a set of coherent requirements wich specify the terms, otherwise the modalities of the argumentative cooperation between the writer and the reader. The thiking is composed of three parts. The first part consists in indentifiying the question of wich the fiction statement is the answer. It allows to raise, in thematic form, the main axes of the narrative line of argument, consequently the issues of the communication in each novel. The second part deals with the analysis of the formal choices of the statement and it shows on which modes and what ideological end the contribution of the reader is requested. In fact, it’s the discursive strategy wich defines the method of communication and characterizes the functioning of mediation in a literary work. The central idea of the third part is to show the epistemological skill that a writer gives to the literary work and the reader’s ability to identify it. The theories wich become epistemological pools appear as reductionisms and as real obstacles to the pleasure to read or to make pertinently resound the significance of a work art.

Sondy do české poezie 90. let 20. století / The probing of the Czech poetry of the 90. years of the 20. centuryManová, Vilma January 2013 (has links)
This thesis examines the poetry of poets who officially entered the Czech literary scene in 1990s - after The Velvet Revolution. That was a period of time when Czech literary life changed completely. The thesis focuses on the artists born during the 1960s and the early 1970s - Petr Borkovec, Martin Langer, Pavel Kolmačka and Petr Hruška. The thesis concentrates on the analysis of their first two individual collections published between 1990-1998. What is important is the fact that the authors are not negatively influenced by the cultural politics from the communism era. First, the thesis outlines the events on the Czech literary scene after the revolution. Then it offers a view of the individual poets' works. This part also presents the critical reflection of the period, while the main focus is on the interpretation of poetic works. Through analytical reading this thesis follows the fundamental motive constants and it also reflects other important components of the early authorial poetics. The aim is to point out the tendencies in young Czech poetry at the time of sudden multiplicity of possibilities and to prove or disprove the presence of traditional poetics. Keywords: Czech poetry, 1990, poetic debut, Petr Borkovec, Martin Langer, Pavel Kolmačka, Petr Hruška

Habiter : sciences, phénoménologie et herméneutique à partir de Gaston Bachelard et Maurice Merleau-Ponty / Living in : sciences, phenomenology and hermeneutics from Gaston Bachelard and Maurice Merleau-Ponty's point of viewMickala, Cyrille 13 June 2014 (has links)
Is it still possible to inhabitate and live the laid out and constructed space in particular, as for considering the techno and industrial flood that determines and influences the field of modern architecture? Rationalism and functionalism of a given trend of modern architecture by incorporating techno and industrial progress in the world of home, seems to condemn the experience of living in an irreversible crisis. The architectural activity wanting to meet scientific and techno-industrial progress, it requires practical experience in home and prescientific places of life, of living standards arising from the only reason. It is a general an architecture and a modern, abstract and functionalist urbanism that develop along the path of rational objectivity initiated by Galileo and Descartes, they control , manage and aestheticize the whole world and all human experience to space by stripping poetic , mythological and emotional considerations. Thus, the construction of human institutions housing becomes in identifying the crisis of living a «prosaic and technological process deriving directly from the mathematical reason, a functional diagram, or a rule of formal suits «in drawback of the concrete experience of living. But if the architecture does not matter to itself, if it is not a practice that is an end in itself because it opens to another, how can we still philosophically hope to authentically, originally and poetically live the world and the space of the house in particular? Philosophy, by phenomenological and hermeneutic approach inheritated from Gaston Bachelard and Merleau-Ponty presents to the modern experience of living, original significant ways that respond to the crisis it faces. Renewing differently more than the only purely rational knowledge the relations of man to the space, it presents itself as a remarkable way of re- understanding, rereading and re-enchantment of the original experience of inhabitating the world , the city and the space of the house.

This research focuses on the functions and the meanings of the iterant wall image in the poetic works of Eugénio de Andrade, Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen and Jorge de Sena. The study is divided into four parts and nine chapters distributed among historical and theoretical questions and the analysis of each poetic work. The historical perspective includes the reading of modern Portuguese authors such as Cesário Verde, Raul Brandão and Fernando Pessoa, who prepare the passage for Andrade, Andresen and Sena in the literary scene of the 1940s, in the context of the Cadernos de poesia and \"Neorrealismo\". The theoretical approach investigates the relationship between poetry and experience unfolded in the complementary notions of crisis and resistance, considered in terms of dialectical articulations and poetic procedures organized by the imagery of the wall. These different organizations of the image of the wall direct the analyzes of Andrade\'s, Andresen\'s and Sena\'s work, which constituted complexes of their own according to the notions of nature, landscape and matter.

[en] FROM HISTORY OF THE WORD: A THEOLOGY OF REVELATION IN PAUL RICOEUR / [pt] DA HISTÓRIA À PALAVRA: A TEOLOGIA DA REVELAÇÃO EM PAUL RICOEURESDRAS COSTA BENTO 13 April 2015 (has links)
[en] The hermeneutics of the revelation s idea is one of the more authentic and original theological works of the French philosopher Paul Ricoeur. The author s two fundamental propositions present a concept of revelation that respects the idiosyncrasies fit to each literary gender of the Scripture and, at the same time, dialogues with a hermeneutic philosophy that provides an authentic dialectics between the truths of faith and the truths of reason. So, an opaque and authoritarian concept of the revelation is criticized and a polyphonic, polysemic, and analogical concept of revelation is claimed. The theoretical elements that implement the ricoeurian concept of revelation are: the world of the text, the hermeneutics of detachment, the speech as event and meaning, the poetic cathegory and the hermeneutics of the testimony. Through this living dialectics, one pretends to liberate the concept of revelation from dogmatic formulae and bring it back to the confessions of faith present in the prophetic, narrative, prescriptive, sapiential and hymnic speeches. The massive opacity of the concept of revelation can only be overcome through a hermeneutics of revelation that considers the polyphonic expressions that stem from the revelation in which the people of God s confession of faith are based.

This study answers the following title: Romantic fiction of postmodernity and its mazes. The example of the texts of Alain Robbe-Grillet (France, 1922-2008), of Juan José Saer (Argentina, 1937-2005) and of Boubacar Boris Diop (Senegal, 1947-). It intends to identify, under authority methodological of poetic text the various modalities by which the pattern of the labyrinth becomes established as privileged substrate of the poetic narrative in three writers belonging to different linguistic and cultural areas. The choice and examination of the texts of these three writers rest on the will to show the deployment of this pattern in the internal organization of the postmodern romantic fiction. Indeed, integrated in the internal dynamic of writing in a very diversified way, the pattern of the maze appears in all the problems which cross the romantic writing. For methodological convenience and scientific rigour, this study deploys according to three complementary axes. While the first is entitled "The labyrinth as obsessive invariant of the romantic fiction of postmodernity" sets out to bring out the different aspects in which this pattern unfolds in dynamic textual postmodern fictional narrative, the second which is entitled "The labyrinth as constitutive modality of the narrativity of the story : romantic fiction of postmodernity to the test of discontinuity", gets down to examine how this pattern is part of a writing project that claims the discontinuity principle as narrative, and the third which is entitled "The labyrinth as a characteristic modality of interdiscursivity and intergenericity textual dynamic : romantic fiction of postmodernity to the test of polyphony" undertakes to show how this pattern is constitutive of polyphony which governs the dynamic of textual postmodern fictional narrative.

January 2010 (has links)
For this, we understand, according Gaston Bachelard (2002) that all components should receive poetic essence of material, among which, for the work of Camilo Pessanha, water is the most significant of such factors. The images in the work of the poet, if present fragmented and fleeting and, therefore, it is revealed by the poetic subject, beyond the consciousness of the transience of things, a desire to fix the aesthetic form the moment when the poetic images are perceived. We will investigate, in the poet's work, how water, a matter crucial to their poetic aesthetics is worked out, among other devices used to represent the fleeting aspect of reality, and to reach the density of matter and remain, setting the poetic moment / Mestre

Traduzindo Twenty-one love poems de Adrienne Rich: ambivalência rítmica como re-visão da tradição / Translating Adrienne Richs Twenty-One Love Poems into Brazilian Portuguese: rhythmic ambivalence as a re-vision of the tradition.Camargo, Sarah Valle 27 September 2018 (has links)
This work presents and discusses a translation of Adrienne Rich\'s set of poems Twenty-One Love Poems (1974-1976) into Brazilian Portuguese. Based on Alice Templeton\'s criticism, it aims to explore the notion of dialogue as well as the re-vision (Rich\'s concept) of the love sonnets\' tradition performed by this sequence of lesbian poems, perhaps the first one written by a major North American poet. The work consists of two parts: the first one focuses on feminist translation studies and the balance between translator\'s cooperation and criticism. It also discusses gender marks on a case-by-case basis, considering the fallacy of neutrality and some possibilities related to grammatical gender, based on the works of Olga Castro and Myriam Diaz-Diocaretz. The second part outlines strategies of re-creation of rhetorical-formal traits such as the anti-aesthetic features and the rhythmic ambivalence given by the poems\' evocation of the blank verse. Formal traits such as these reiterate the challenge faced by Rich in her search for a feminist language in confrontation with the masculine canon, as she reworks traditional poetic forms from another perspective, looking for the dream of a common language, that would align the poetic and the political aspects. This act of translation deals not only with the recreation of traditional Portuguese verse forms, but with the transposition of the notion of tradition to another context as well. This approach is based on the works of Haroldo de Campos, Paulo Henriques Britto, Mário Laranjeira and Derek Attridge.

This dissertation is the result of a research and intervention for seventh grade students in a classroom at a public school in Sao Paulo. These rhythm and poetry young lovers descend from Afro-Brazilian and Pankararu indian families who came from the countryside of Pernambuco and settled down in Sao Paulo after the 1950s (developmental phase) to work as civil construction workers. The school where the research was conducted is placed in Morumbi and serves the students who are Real Park slum dwellers and whose life histories are linked to the migration experience mentioned. We observed that though this communitys history is known, this wasnt proven integrated to the school culture the tendency of which seemed to deny the students are Northeastern Afro-Indian descendent. Therefore, the objective of this study was not only to investigate but also to provide the students with ways to dialogue with their recent past by means of their poetic-musical manners. In order to do so we employed an ethnographic research in Brejo dos Padres [Priests Marsh] region in Northeastern Brazil where most families came from, and we found out a very rich popular poetry production to supply us with material for some intervention in class. This task about cultural hybridity counted on students and teachers participation emphasizing processes of ownership, recombination and reinvention as presented in cordel, rap and repente demonstrations. We understood that mixing up different styles of poetic production to turn them into their own production was a way for these social groups disregarded by society to answer to demands of subjectification and ethno-social affirmation.
