Emphasizing engagement: adapting to the hybrid environment through new interaction technologies : Evaluating Audience Engagement Platforms impact on engagement in hybrid meetings and presentations / Betona engagemang: anpassning till hybridmiljön genom ny interaktionsteknik

Goodbrand Skagerlind, Valentin, Sundström, Ebba January 2022 (has links)
An increase in distributed workspaces are influencing the way people work and thereby how meetings and presentations are conducted, making hybrid settings the standard for many organizations. Previous research has shown that hybrid settings decrease engagement due to technical issues, lack of inclusiveness, changing social dynamics and difficulties in evaluating participant engagement. Due to the need to diminish the negative effect the hybrid setting has, this study aims to evaluate the effect Audience Engagement Platforms have on increasing and evaluating engagement. The study was conducted by interviewing 31 users and non-users of Audience Engagement Platforms (AEPs) on meeting and presentation engagement, with 6 of them focusing on the hybrid setting. Thereafter a survey was conducted with AEP users on functionalities and effect on social dynamics. The interviewees generally agreed that anonymity and the possibility of presentation interaction were important aspects of the platform. Most hosts traditionally used visual cues as methods of engagement evaluation, and a diverse set of AEP use cases were described for all meeting and presentation types. The survey showed that all evaluated functionalities had a positive impact on engagement, where Wordclouds, Rankings and Quizzes increased perceived engagement the most. Furthermore, voluntary Likes, Reactions, Comments and Q&A from the participants was both perceived to increase engagement and suitable for evaluating participant engagement. In conclusion, the platform was shown to increase engagement both due to its platform characteristics as well as its functionalities. Anonymity was an important characteristic for lowering the barriers to participation and democratizing each input. Also, sharing the same interaction medium between remote and co-located participants helped to create a shared sense of belonging. Highly scored engagement features in the survey, such as Wordclouds and Rankings, can be both moderately low-effort in terms of how active a participant must be to give input on, whilst still directly asking each participant to give their opinion on a subject or statement. The quiz function was rated highly, which some interviewees suggested was due to its competitive nature. During the interviews however, many interviewees put a large emphasis on asking questions on a subject to be an important engagement tool, which would mostly correlate to the open-ended question functionality. The evaluation of engagement was concluded to be mostly helped by the functionalities Likes, Comments and the Q&A, as they are signs of voluntary participation. However, as the actual engagement level may not be correctly interpreted through the usage of these functionalities, it may still be insufficient to do a  correct evaluation.

Study of plactic monoids by rewriting methods / Etude des monoïdes plaxiques par des méthodes de réécriture

Hage, Nohra 08 December 2016 (has links)
These methods are applied on presentations of plactic monoids given in terms of Young tableaux, Kashiwara’s crystal bases and Littelmann path model. We study the syzygy problem for the Knuth presentation of the plactic monoids. Using the homotopical completion procedure that extends Squier’s and Knuth–Bendix’s completions procedure, we construct coherent presentations of plactic monoids of type A. Such a coherent presentation extends the notion of a presentation of a monoid by a family of generating syzygies, taking into account all the relations among the relations. We make explicit a finite coherent presentation of plactic monoids of type A with the column generators. However, this presentation is not minimal in the sense that many of its generators are superfluous. After applying the homotopical reduction procedure on this presentation, we reduce it to a finite coherent one that extends the Knuth presentation, giving then all the syzygies of the Knuth relations. More generally, we deal with presentations of plactic monoids of any type from the rewriting theory perspective. We construct finite convergent presentations for these monoids in a general way using Littelmann paths. Moreover, we study the latter presentations in terms of Kashiwara’s crystal graphs for type C. By introducing the admissible column generators, we obtain a finite convergent presentation of the plactic monoid of type C with explicit relations. This approach should allow us to study the syzygy problem for the presentations of plactic monoids for any type

[en] PREFETCHING CONTENT IN MULTIMEDIA PRESENTATIONS / [pt] PRÉ-BUSCA DE CONTEÚDO EM APRESENTAÇÕES MULTIMÍDIA

AMPARITO ALEXANDRA MORALES FIGUEROA 16 March 2015 (has links)
[en] When delivering and presenting multimedia applications through a communication network, the presentation lag could be a major and critical factor affecting the multimedia presentation quality. In a good quality presentation the synchronism is always preserved, hence all the contents are presented in a continue way according to the authoring specifications. In this dissertation, a multimedia content prefetching plan is proposed in order to minimize the presentation lag and guarantee the synchronism between the media objects, which constitute the multimedia application. The proposed mechanism regards the multimedia applications developed using the NCL declarative language and it uses the events based synchronism advantage to determinate the ideal retrieval order of the media objects and to calculate their start retrieval times. Furthermore, important issues to be considered in a prefetch ambient are raised and the different algorithms that belong to the prefetching plan are developed.

Genom: Metod : En studie i radikala redovisningsformer / By: method : A study in radical presentations

Kiander, Anna January 2019 (has links)

Gustrén, Cia January 2019 (has links)
The aim of this licentiate thesis is to examine the means of self-presentation on the websites of 18 upper secondary schools in Sweden. This empirical material may be referred to as a kind of marketing since they render a highly idealized image of schools. To some extent they exaggerate what school is about, as a way for schools to promote themselves as well as to maintain their hold on the market. Self-presentations thus play an important role in the struggle to attract prospective students and keep these enrolled. The fact that self-presentations refer to schools and not companies in general—although several schools certainly strive to define themselves as such—indicates that self-presentations are not like any other marketing practice. They can also be read as a kind of imaginative documents. In this capacity, self-presentations do not only express what school is or may be interpreted as, but foremost how it envisions itself in the future. The material underlying the study consists of a selection of excerpts that were collected from the schools' webpages at different points of time during the years 2011/2012 and 2016/2017. This allowed me to study both continuities and change in the way schools are presented online. In this study, schools' self-presentations are analyzed thematically in combination with Jason Glynos and David Howarth's so called logics approach, which has been developed out of poststructuralist discourse theory and its ontological assumptions. A logic may be understood in this case as a rule or pattern governing the way a phenomenon like school is constituted. As a research strategy, logics have helped me explore, step by step, the conditions of possibility as well as impossibility of identity-formation processes. I mainly deal with four logics that comprise the overarching principles that structure what it means to be a school: business adaptation, academization, individualization and social responsibility. The empirical study thus consisted in setting out the social, political and fantasmatic aspects of these logics—which consequently served to thematically analyze the contemporary identity-formation on schools' websites. Social aspects have been a descriptive tool to study what characterizes school as presented in the empirical material, whereas political and fantasmatic aspects refer to analytical and critical perspectives. The aim has been to illuminate not only the way schools' identities are organized but also how and why this happens – in other words, what logics do to the identity-formation of schools. Importantly, the logics in question are interrelated and work together at the same time as they 'struggle' over the significance of being a school. As I argue, the identity-formation of upper secondary schools can hence be perceived as crisscrossed by competing and complementary logics that all make certain claims as to what a school is supposed to be (or not). The main task of a traditional Swedish school has been to foster democratic members of society. The findings of my study, however, question such a general understanding. In my empirical material a self-referential meaning of school rather emerges with the purpose to produce good employees; that is, a competent work-force willing to submit to the norms and values of the corporate sector. Subsequently, the boundaries between school and the surrounding world are also increasingly loosened, as business is brought into the classroom and made a premise of learning and development in accordance with the needs and interests of the labor market. However, this replacement of a traditional school is only partial. Since schools are equally dependent on the societal tradition to appear as legitimate and credible alternatives on the educational arena they cannot wholeheartedly commit themselves to a corporate identity. Hence, self-presentations often indicate a struggle to be different enough to stand out from the host of other schools, but also to be similar enough to be considered a 'proper' school. This licentiate thesis has in common with previous studies that statements about qualification and employability measures have indeed increased. A corresponding decline of statements about active citizenship and critical thinking could not be detected – but then again, educational-political aspects confirm that a traditional school may be understood as a background against which an alternative school is formed. This is a conclusion which is consistent with the findings of previous studies on school and education policy.

Interpretační hodnota obrazové informace a její význam při tvorbě grafických modelů a infografik / Image interpretation value and its purpose in creation of scientific figures and infographics

Phung, Hyu Nghia January 2012 (has links)
Graphic figures and various types of infographics have become an essential part of the scientific papers, business presentations and study materials. Although, authors of these documents often lack the knowledge of basic rules and principles of graphic design and learn how to create figures by trial and error. Literature addressing the issues of effective verbal (presentation skills) and non-verbal (principles of scientific writing) is available and accessible. Though literature addressing the issues of scientific figure design and general visual design are very few, sometimes non existent, despite the fact that images, figures and various charts are one of the most effective mediums for information sharing. This lack of material knowledge is detrimental to the quality of works of managers, professors and researchers. This thesis attempts to fill in this gap and motivate readers to further development and research of the issue. The thesis addresses the issue of figures from its core, those being the basic principles of image perception and interpretation. Building on concepts of theorists like Peirce, Saussure and Eco the thesis will then define the meaning and purpose of "Image Interpretation Value". Selected principles of figure construction and interpretation will be introduced. These principles will then be further analyzed and applied on the level of business and scientific figures. Each chapter will include various graphic figures and practical examples to enhance further understanding of the issue. The primary purpose and goal of this thesis is to create an easy-to-follow set of instructions and suggestions on how to design effective and intelligible figures to be used in the fields of business communication, scientific research and academic teaching.
