On the serious social implications of humorous artVan Tonder, Anna Magrieta 31 January 2007 (has links)
Modern humour appears to initiate the deconstruction of modern correspondence thinking. A close examination shows the opposite, namely that modern humour forms part of correspondence thought in a complicated reciprocal relationship of disruption and support. Ironically, humour is particularly suited to explicating the deconstruction of correspondence thinking in poststructuralist language theories by being prone to refute cornerstone principles of modernism such as truth, rationality, reliability and permanence. This dissertation focuses on the exceptional suitability of humour to adapt to the loss of the centre and to demonstrate the shift from the modernist ontological approach to the postmodernist creative metaphorical approach to art. Humour, like metaphor, reinvents meaning rather than discovers it; it remains open-ended instead of offering closure. It becomes a valid creative option and enters a new dynamic into a postmodern culture of play where truth and meaning remain infinitely suspended in an ungrounded state of possibility. / Art History, Visual Arts and Music / M.A. (Visual Arts)

Herdefiniering van identiteit as 'n proses van wording tydens die adolessent se verlies van 'n geliefdeVan der Merwe, Susanna Johanna 04 1900 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans / This study is aimed at the development of strategies for therapists to be used with adolescents and late adolescents (15 to 20 years of age) who have lost a loved one. This will be done by focussing on the redefining of identity as a way of becoming. The starting point of the study is to be found in the problem formulation that the process of becoming of adolescents who have suffered the loss of a loved one, may be blocked because they do not have the necessary skills to overcome the loss. The second problem is that therapists do not have the necessary skills to empower these adolescents so that the redefining of identity can be achieved. / Social work / D. Diac. (Spelterapie)

In this study it is asked whether freedom is still an ideal that is attainable and worthy of pursuit with reference to the work of Michel Foucault. This question is investigated in the light of the different views of the subject which Foucault developed, as well as his views on power and freedom. In conclusion the abovementioned question
is answered with qualified affirmation, also with regard to the South African context, during and after Apartheid, and a brief attempt is made to think freedom in a South African context. / Philosophy, Practical and Systematic Theology / M.A. (Wysbegeerte)

Self-realization in contemporary theology : towards a vision of Christian wholenessSlater, Jennifer 02 1900 (has links)
This research determines the ground for a Christian theological
anthropology that makes provision for a doctrine that supports
human self-realization. It is evident from the study that
anthropological self-realization is an involved process of becoming
truly human, not an isolated course founded solely on the biblical
knowledge of being created in the image and likeness of God. All
sciences, and in particular anthropological sciences, enjoy the
prerogative of unraveling and analyzing the human person. Whether
these sciences are neuro-biological, psychological, theological,
philosophical, biblical, spiritual or mystical in character, each with its
specific method legitimately attempts to explain the complexities of
the human person. In the light of this neither philosophy nor theology
possess the exclusive claim to authentic human wisdom. In truth
most scientific insights have a combined impact on the self-realizing
growth and development of humanity.
The process of self-realization links theology to real life questions such
as evil, suffering, hope, love, justice and freedom, as well as with the
immanent, the transcendent, the human and the divine. This thesis
holds to the opinion that a theology of self-realization would
contribute to the 'humanization' of theology since it brings praxis and
theory into close alignment. This study equally expresses the
conviction that the doctrine of consecrated vowed life, an ecclesiastical
structure in the Roman Catholic Church, is particularly in need of
humanization, as the notion of 'self' as a strength has been notably
absent from traditional treatises on the practices of religious life.
Conventional forms of consecrated vowed life called the woman to
suppress and spiritualize at least some of her femininity. This was due
to the distorted theological anthropology that sustained consecrated
life in which God was presented as an idea to be grasped
intellectually, and not an experience to be lived. / Philosophy, Practical and Systematic Theology / Th. D. (Systematic Theology)

Názor veřejnosti českokrumlovského regionu na situaci osamělých matek v nouzi / Single Mothers in Emergency Conditions: Český Krumlov Region Public OpinionMAROUŠKOVÁ, Barbora January 2009 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the public opinion on single mothers in emergency conditions in Český Krumlov region. The theoretical part defines single mother and single parent family. The fact that in many European countries the numbers of single parent families is increasing is stressed out. The theoretical part describes the changes in models of family behavior have been experienced in the last decades and factors which influence them. Also, basic facts on single families in the Czech Republic are presented e.g. female or male single parent family, their age, reasons for single family, social status, numbers and percentage of children born to single parents within last twenty years etc. In addition particular reasons of becoming a single mother are explained e.g. divorce, single parenting, becoming a widow. A phenomenon of domestic violence is closely related to the subject of single mother, therefore it is dealt with here too. The theoretical part conclusion shows principal reasons which cause that single mothers get into emergency conditions. The practical part presents a research which focuses on public opinions on single mothers in emergency conditions in Český Krumlov region. The field research was conducted through the method of a questionnaire. The focus group was public in Český Krumlov region. The aim of the field research was to map public opinions of Český Krumlov region residents on single mothers in emergency conditions. The research showed that single parent (mother) families are considered to be a group with the highest risks to be exposed to low standard of living. At the same time more than 50 % or respondents think that the most obvious reason for single mother to be in a critical life situation are economic troubles and lack of finance. An important fact which contributed to this result is that more than one quarter of respondents thinks that their current economic situation is not easy or even critical. In respect to domestic violence issue, the research showed that more than half of respondents believe that domestic violence against women by their spouses is mainly a results men aggressive behavior. The most frequent answer picked was aggressiveness initiated by the use of alcohol and drugs, than aggressive behavior inborn i.e. genetic predisposition to act aggressively and aggressive conduct like a way how to escape and resolve life situations which may appear to be unsolvable and an aggressor is not able to control her behavior. Public sees domestic violence to be a serious problem which is mainly present in single mother families. The most of respondents believe that domestic violence against mothers and children is the most frequent reason for single mothers to apply for subsidized single parent accommodation. The results also show that more than 60 % of respondents understand what domestic violence is and that very often victims never tell anyone and keep it secret even though they suffer for years. It is assumed that in this respect, public sees the relation between domestic violence and torturing victims in early childhood. More than 60 % of respondents believe that prevailing numbers of women who are victims of domestic violence in their childhood are victims of domestic violence also when they grow up mainly because of their previous experience when low self-confidence and violence become a part of their daily life even though hard bearing.

The construction of subjectivities in the chronicles of Pedro LemebelNavarrete, Carolina 19 June 2015 (has links)
The objective of this study is to analyze the construction of various subjects in the chronicles of the Chilean writer Pedro Lemebel. The dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet and the implementation of neoliberalism have profoundly transformed Chilean society. The author retrieves these transformations from the subjects who participate in this reality, and who have no real place in the institutional, literary and artistic discourse. We meet cross-dressers, prostitutes, homosexuals, street children, vagabonds, mentally disturbed individuals, and women from the slums. We want to demonstrate how these invisible subjects represent the discursive strategies invoked to highlight the processes of subjection imposed by the economic, political and social system. Furthermore, how do these strategies emphasize corporeality as a means of resistance discourse or even possibly a political force? The research is based on three lines of thought. We discuss the questions of whether the author is the textual space most conducive to explore the individual subjects. We then address the mode of subjection and constitution by subjects (subjectivity) at the fringes of society. These groups have made desire and memory their fundamental principles. Finally, we study the various text strategies related to the concept of “nomadic theory” and “resistant body”. Thus, we analyze the notion of being nomadic as part of one’s identity, bodily metamorphosis, the dominance of the flesh and the transformation of the imaginary order issued from the corporeality. Theoretically, we take as reference the work of Michel Foucault, Gilles Deleuze, Felix Guattari and Rosi Braidotti

以塊莖思維探析彈幕觀影情境 / Media/Text/Audience? Rhizoanalysis of Danmaku Viewing Contexts夏慧馨, Hsia, Hui Hsin Unknown Date (has links)
Danmaku, or Danmu, is a comment-sharing system originating from Japanese online video-streaming platforms. It constitutes a specific viewing state. Videos are covered with texts and symbols, which keep varying and breaking the connotation and denotation of meaning. Danmaku also complicates the perception of the audience. However, such frequently changing viewing contexts have never been studied thoroughly. To illustrate the interrelation among media, texts and audience, this study aims to develop a “fluxional” research framework.
To interpret “sudden” metamorphoses of clips and “sudden” visual experiences while people are viewing Danmaku films, this study takes Deleuze and Guattaris’ figurative concepts of rhizome as main research perspectives. Rhizomatic thinking focuses on the “assemblages” of physical objects and metaphysical concepts as well as how they are “becoming,” which all together constitute a dynamic worldview. In this study, Danmaku films and the audience are both seen as “machines”, through which the “affect” flows. The “affect” forms various rhythms, which energize the constant changing of the content in a video, arousing instant sensation and comprehension.
In the end, this study brings up “collective play script” and “text-er” to conceptualize the context of Rhizo-aesthetic experience, in a hope to offer a new approach to understand new media interface and content design.

This essay will treat a common subject within the preschool environment, the introductions of new children and parents. Throughout the introduction, teachers must relate to the new family to try and achieve a connection/attachment and provide security. The starting point is two self-perceived dilemmas where the teachers describe two different introductions. One introduction goes on for a longer period. The child does not want to let go of its parent and is sad as soon as the parent tries to leave it. The second introduction goes fast, children and parents are expressing happiness. The teachers at the preschool nevertheless are concernedwhen the child is perceived boundless as it runs between activities, other children and their parents. The purpose of this essay is to investigate how different connection patterns and prerequisites can affect the introduction of new families to the preschool environment. It will also examine the experience of the teacher or teachers, and the importance of good cooperation between the teachers. The preschool's environment and organisation will also be investigated and the role it plays in the introduction of the child and also for allowing the teachers to carry out a good introduction. This will be done through three questions, which are: How can we, as teachers, meet Pelle and Alma's different needs? What are the prerequisites and conditions needed for a good introduction? What psychological phenomena are relevant to the introduction? By using different concepts such as affect theory, mirroring, safe base, safe heaven and connection/attachment, this essay can approach these issues. Essen's main task is to provide teachers, regardless of experience, with different perspectives on the introduction and how these can be applied to new families. The essay describes the progression of the connection/attachment theory with different levels of connection. Safe base and safe heaven are different ways to see how a connection/attachment works between the child and the parent, as that is where the first connection/attachment is established. During the work, the focus on the children and parents has become more nuanced and the role of teachers is increasingly critical. Through literature studies and discussions in the tutoring group at school and with colleagues, we have gained a greater understanding of all parties involved in the introduction to preschool. An important conclusion we found is that connection/attachment, regardless of who cannot be accelerated. It must grow through trust and confidence.

The main models of organizational change have in common that they see change, more or less explicitly, either as a dynamic phenomenon due to forces or as a flow, a movement. But change itself is not directly observed. It is simply inferred from a series of observations that focus on either (i) an entity, or (ii) a sequence of events - phases or steps of an on-going process. So, research in organizational change faces a paradox : understanding change processes leads to representations and explanations that reify the processes in fixed forms (words or diagrams). The aim of this dissertation is to observe change itself and show how it can be thought of as a flow, a movement. The conditions of understanding change as a movement are based on Henri Bergson’s philosophy.

L’émergence d’un discours féministe dans la fiction courte de Nathaniel Hawthorne (1832-1844) : l’écriture du devenir-femme / The emergence of a feminist speech in the short fiction of Nathaniel Hawthorne (1832-1844 ) : the writing of woman-becomingSahmadi, Linda 04 December 2015 (has links)
Female portraits are abundant in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s fiction, short stories and novels alike. The influence of the women evolving in his private sphere may be at the origin of his ambiguous feminist vision, as his allegiance was divided between his Puritan inheritance (both the Mannings and the Hawthornes) on the one hand, and, on the other, the emerging feminist convictions of his in-laws (the Peabodys). Hawthorne’s female portraits are thus characterized by a tendency to binarism as they pit an essentialist view of women against a differentialist one. This binarist perspective reflects the narrow-mindedness of the patriarcal system which the male heroes try to defend and maintain. Deleuze and Guatarri’s concepts of “minor literature” and “becoming-woman” will help us understand how the woman-image of the Puritans is a minored woman in the realm both of the social order and the symbolic order. Hawthorne’s feminist voice is an equivocal one as his text is undergoing a subterranean process of “becoming-woman.”
