Therefore, it is necessary to use methods that can measure these curvatures with good accuracy levels. The preparation of a glide path prior to root canal instrumentation is widely suggested because can avoid possible operative errors, such as loss of centralization and apical transportation, especially in curved root canals. There is no consensus concerning the methods that can be used to measure radicular curvatures, nor regarding the efficacy of glide path. The present investigation has the objective of performing two systematic reviews in order to answer the following questions: 1- What are the methods, described in the literature, used to measure the angles and other characteristics of the curvatures of the root canals? 2- The glide path is able to reduce the apical transportation and the loss of centralization of the endodontic preparation? Also, how does the glide path - manual or engine-driven - result in minor operative errors? Methods: Using the appropriate terms for each review, electronic searches were performed on six databases: PubMed, PubMed Central (PMC), Embase, Scopus, EBSCO Dentistry & Oral Sciences Source (DOSS) and Virtual Health Library (VHL). We used studies published in English or in any language with Latin alphabet. There was no time limit for publications. In addition, in the second review, the included studies, the risk of biases was analyzed. Results: In review 1, about the methods of measurement of curvatures, 6,336 studies were obtained and of these, 31 articles that described innovative methods. Eleven studies described the methods used to measure only the angle of the radicular curvatures, for which they used 2D images. 13 studies also used 2D images, however, in addition to the angles, evaluated other features of the root canal curvatures (position, length, direction, height and shape). In addition, seven studies evaluated curvatures using 3D methods. In review 2, regarding glide path, 2,146 articles were obtained, and 18 studies fulfilled the inclusion criteria, composing the final analysis. 9 studies evaluated the glide path per se and 11 evaluated the impact of glide path on final engine-driven endodontic preparation. Conclusion: Revision 1 suggested that most methods for root canal curvature measurement have potential clinical applications; however, there is a lack of consensus on the ideal technique. In addition to the angle, other features, such as radius and position of curvature, need to be measured and should be considered when evaluating root canal curvature in both clinical and research purposes. Revision 2 revealed that engine-driven confection of glide path, when compared to manual, presents similar or better results of apical transportation and maintenance of root canal centralization. It was also observed that the preparation of glide path, prior to endodontic preparation, is associated with similar results or with a reduction of the apical transportation and the maintenance of the preparation centralization. It was also observed that deviations occur in all situations. 9 pesquisas avaliaram a confec??o do glide path per se e 11 avaliaram a repercuss?o do glide path no preparo endod?ntico motorizado final.

Judah and her neighbours in the seventh century BCE

Asher, Adèle Hazel Esmè 11 1900 (has links)
This thesis investigates the period in Judah which took place precisely a century between the death ofHezekiah (687 BCE) and the final fall of Jerusalem (587 BCE) Seldom has a nation experienced so many dramatically sudden reversals of fortune in so relatively short a time. Throughout the first half of the seventh century BCE the Assyrian empire reigned supreme. In the second half, in rapid succession, Judah, as a vassal, experienced periods of independence and of subjection, first to Egypt, then to Babylonia, before finally destroying herself in a futile rebellion against the latter. The aim of the thesis was to set Judah in the global context and investigate the role she played. To this end the Great Powers, namely Assyria, Egypt and Babylonia were surveyed, as well as were the Small Powers, like Judah, Phoenicia and the Transjordanian states, and the relationships probed. The thesis traces the life of the wicked but extraordinarily successful King Manasseh, and his equally reprobate son, Amon, who was brutally murdered by his servants, and was avenged by 'the people of the land'. Josiah is the only monarch who fits the Deuteronomistic requirements of a good king. Religious and national reform generally go hand in hand with politics, and the cultic reform and centralization of the cult characterise his reign. · With the fall of Assyria, the temporary surge into prominence by Egypt and the tragic death of Josiah in 609 BCE, Judah experienced radical political fluctuations and with them alternate subjugation by, and rebellion against, each of the major powers. Inexperienced leadership and a situation of dual kings, followed Josiah's death. The rapidly changing international scene demanded of the rulers of Judah skillful manoeuvring and exceptional adaptability, and frequently confronted them with ominous political situations. Judaean leaders and the puppet King Zedekiah, propped up by false prophets, failed to grasp the shift in the balance of power, and clung to questionable Egyptian aid against the new world power, Babylonia. Highly vulnerable and left in the lurch, Jerusalem faced protracted siege and famine in Jerusalem, destruction ofthe Temple, and deportation ofthe cream ofher people. / Classics and Modern European Languages / D. CSR inom svenska fotbollsföreningar : Relationen till prestation och organisationsstruktur / CSR within swedish football clubs : The relation to performance and organizational structure

Andersson, Jesper, Stillerfelt, Johan January 2018 (has links)
Background & problem: CSR, Corporate Social Responsibility, is since long ago a well explored area, both in Sweden and internationally, where many previous studies deal with the connection to financial performance, especially in large companies. An area which is relatively unexplored is CSR within the sports industry and further on within football, especially from a swedish context. To which extent do swedish football clubs engage in CSR-related activities and what effect does it have on their performance? Purpose: The purpose of the thesis is to test and explain the impact of CSR-engagement onswedish football clubs’ HR- and social performance and if organizational structure in terms of formalization, centralization and complexity affects this relationship. Furthermore, the practical purpose is to contribute with guidance on how swedish football clubs can work with CSR- engagement in order to accomplish a higher performance. The intent is to highlight and explain the connections between CSR-engagement, performance and organizational structure and thus fill the gap that exists within the research area. Method: The thesis is based on a quantitative research strategy with a deductive research approach and cross-sectional design. Data collection has been done by sending out a survey and the selection of the thesis consists of 223 football clubs from Allsvenskan to Division 2. Conclusions: The result of the study clearly shows that CSR-engagement positively affects both HR- and social performance in Swedish football clubs. Furthermore, the result indicates that organizational structure in terms of formalization, centralization and complexity hierarchy does not affect this relationship. However, despite some uncertainty in the results, there is an impact of complexity social capital in the relationship between CSR-engagement and HR- performance.

Public Service Motivation in Public and Nonprofit Service Providers: The Cases of Belarus and Poland

Prysmakova, Palina 24 March 2015 (has links)
The work motivation construct is central to the theory and practice of many social science disciplines. Yet, due to the novelty of validated measures appropriate for a deep cross-national comparison, studies that contrast different administrative regimes remain scarce. This study represents an initial empirical effort to validate the Public Service Motivation (PSM) instrument proposed by Kim and colleagues (2013) in a previously unstudied context. The two former communist countries analyzed in this dissertation—Belarus and Poland— followed diametrically opposite development strategies: a fully decentralized administrative regime in Poland and a highly centralized regime in Belarus. The employees (n = 677) of public and nonprofit organizations in the border regions of Podlaskie Wojewodstwo (Poland) and Hrodna Voblasc (Belarus) are the subjects of study. Confirmatory factor analysis revealed three dimensions of public service motivation in the two regions: compassion, self-sacrifice, and attraction to public service. The statistical models tested in this dissertation suggest that nonprofit sector employees exhibit higher levels of PSM than their public sector counterparts. Nonprofit sector employees also reveal a similar set of values and work attitudes across the countries. Thus, the study concludes that in terms of PSM, employees of nonprofit organizations constitute a homogenous group that exists atop the administrative regimes. However, the findings propose significant differences between public sector agencies across the two countries. Contrary to expectations, data suggest that organization centralization in Poland is equal to—or for some items even higher than—that of Belarus. We can conclude that the absence of administrative decentralization of service provision in a country does not necessarily undermine decentralized practices within organizations. Further analysis reveals strong correlations between organization centralization and PSM for the Polish sample. Meanwhile, in Belarus, correlations between organization centralization items and PSM are weak and mostly insignificant. The analysis indicates other factors beyond organization centralization that significantly impact PSM in both sectors. PSM of the employees in the studied region is highly correlated with their participation in religious practices, political parties, or labor unions as well as location of their organization in a capital and type of social service provided.

William's America: Royal Perspective and Centralization of the English Atlantic

Woodlock, Kylie Michelle 12 1900 (has links)
William III, Prince of Orange, ascended the throne of England after the English Glorious Revolution of 1688. The next year, the American colonists rebelled against colonial administrations in the name of their new king. This thesis examines William's perception of these rebellions and the impact his perception had on colonial structures following the Glorious Revolution. Identifying William's modus operandi—his habit of acceding to other's political choices for expediency until decisive action could be taken to assert his true agenda—elucidates his imperial ambitions through the context of his actions. William, an enigmatic and taciturn figure, rarely spoke his mind and therefore his actions must speak for him. By first establishing his pattern of behavior during his early career in the Netherlands and England, this project analyzes William's long-term ambitions to bring the Americas under his direct control following the 1689 rebellions and establish colonial administrations more in line with his vision of a centralized English empire.

Centralization vs. Decentralization: Selection of Downstream Supply Chain Strategy : A single case study on the positioning of purchasing within the Supply Chain of a multinational company / Centralisering vs. Decentralisering: Strategiurval för en Global Supply Chain : En enstaka fallstudie om positionsändring på inköpsfunktionen i ett multinationellt företags Supply Chain

Mazoyer, Oliver January 2020 (has links)
As Supply Chain Management has continuously evolved, it has during recent times been exposed to the opportunities and threats that follow globalization. Firms have the possibility of getting their products/services to customers worldwide by outsourcing processes. This possibility has even turned mandatory for numerous firms in order to be competitive. However, such decisions can expose the Supply Chain to various risks. Because of lack of data and Supply Chain Structures, decision-makers need to distinguish advantages vs. disadvantages between centralized, decentralized or even outsourced structures. The purpose of this study has been, based on gathered data from a case company, to determine what Supply Chain structure to opt for when it comes to purchasing. This master thesis has performed a literature review on the science of Data Mining to enrich the quality of a quantitative part based on databases of the case company. The study also reviews Supply Chain Management strategies and how to select an appropriate distribution channel design - allowing for a framework about selecting an appropriate network design and another framework summarizing current literature’s contribution on the question of centralization versus decentralization based on Finance, Performance or Information. These three pillars are the aspects used as reference of analysis in various literature and could therefore be compared with empirics. The selection framework was filled in by key individuals at the case company and was associated with qualitative contributions from interviews about strengths and weaknesses of three scenarios involving centralization, decentralization or outsourcing. With obtained data, it was possible to identify all strengths and weaknesses of each scenario and discuss differences to select the best possible option. The findings were summarized into a framework where one can clearly see pros and cons of each scenario, thus providing a concise summary of implications following centralization, decentralization and outsourcing respectively. The results of the distribution network pointed towards a decentralization of the purchasing function as a more cost-efficient strategy, but these results must be questioned because of the current setting-bias with the spreading of the COVID-19 virus and its economic consequences. However, when all arguments were grouped into the final summarizing figure, it was concluded that the outsourcing strategy is the most advantageous. This thesis has thus permitted the extension of a framework that identifies the best distribution network design and summarized the implications of centralizing, decentralizing or outsourcing purchasing.

The European Union: Voting, Turnout and Legitimacy

SANDU, ROXANA IONELA 17 April 2012 (has links)
By pursuing common policies for its Member States, the European Union moved from being a purely economic union, to being a political one as well. However, little has been done to tackle the latter aspect. Skepticism has come to characterize the political climate of the European Union and high heterogeneity in terms of Member States has induced difficulties in the decision-making process. This thesis focuses on the European Politics from three aspects: legitimacy, which refers to citizens’ political support, voting behavior and turnout. One of the main research questions we address is whether or not the basis for the existence of true European party politics exists, as a way out of the European Union legitimacy crisis. Then, we ask what are the main factors that influence electoral participation in the European Parliament elections since it is the only source of direct legitimacy. Lastly, we investigate what are the causes for the turnout gap across European and National elections, looking at the party vote share. The main argument for pan-European to exist is to defend the same values and interests European-wide. Empirical results point out that social class's polarization already exists in the initial 12 EU Member States, as well as later entries, while in the European Parliament elections voters cast their vote sincerely. We conclude that Europe fulfils the base requirement for the creation of true European politics, party politics and social groups' targeted-policies being a possible solution for the legitimacy crisis.

The "Equalizer" Administration: Managerial Strategies in the Public Sector

Cavalcanti, Bianor Scelza 08 April 2005 (has links)
The purpose of this dissertation is to understand the managerial "action" of public administrators in the management of their organizations within the Brazilian context. The research seeks to understand the relationships between managers and formal management mechanisms by exploring the complementary nature of the effective managerial action in the face of structural deficiencies and flaws, considering the possibility of overcoming the structuralism-subjectivism dichotomy present in the construction of the Theory of Organizations. Initially, the study provides a review of the literature on organizational design. It highlights the "goodness of fit" proposition on strategic choice issues concerning the main organizational variables design and organizational goal attainment. It also calls special attention to the emerging interest of designing theorists on interpretivist approaches to the matter, such that of Karl Weick. A review of the the administrative reforms in Brazil is made from the perspective of the main stream organizational design conceptual framework. It highlights the complex dynamics of a constant search for differentiation and flexibilization subject to patterns of advances and reversals, due to the centrality, strength and pervasiveness of the bureaucratic model. It is concluded that in no single given moment, a public manager and his team, may count on a formal organizational design which attends the"congruency" criteria, devised by organizational design conceptual frameworks, to explain organizational results in different environmental sets. Although this conclusion may explain failure at the public sector, it can not provide understanding on the many instances of significative success attained by government operations in spite of inadequate formal administrative structures. This point calls for a better understanding from the interpretivist approach, on how public administrators, strongly associated with good organizational results, engage into transformative action, in order to superate administrative structures flaws and dysfunctional cultural patterns of conduct, structurally present and constantly reproduced, in vigorous developing countries, such as Brazil. The dissertation transcribes the testimony of four outstanding public administrators, doing a deep incursion in the managerial real world of public administration, as subjectively defined by them and transformed by their engagement into action.Through the thematic version of the Oral History methodology, full segments of the complete interviews are categorized into the thirty two managerial strategies captured which are presented on a recategorized manner under eight main strategies: (1) Interchanging Frames of Reference; (2) Exploring the Formal Limits; (3) Playing the Bureaucracy Game; (4) Inducing the Inclusion of Others (5)Promoting Internal Cohesion; (6) Creating Shields against Transgressions; (7) Overcoming Internal Restrictions; (8) Letting the Structures Blossom. Each one of these eight blocks of strategies presented, deserves further reflexive interpretation by the author, on the light of the interpretivist approach to organizational design. A final effort is made, now on theory building, for improving understanding on the matter. In order to find a significant meaning underlining all the strategies extracted from the "practical consciousness" of the interviewers as revealed in their report, the author resort to a metaphor. This metaphor helps to: (1) better describe and understand a not adequately treated phenomenon, namely, good results under inadequate structural social and organizational conditions; (2) reveal the logic and the meaning underlining all the strategies adopted to generate results under these unfaithful conditions; (3) name, accordingly to the nature of the managerial transformative social action involved, an open ended class of managerial interventions of a pragmatic sort driven by an ethics of results much common to good managers, that is, the concept of "managerial equalization"; and (4) give back to public administrators, represented by the interviewees, to be incorporated in their "discursive consciousness", something the most effective and experienced public managers already have as tacit knowledge built in their "practical consciousness", and so, help the education and development of new talents. / Ph.
