Its major concern is the pilgrim s spirituality the way it shows in the path to Saint James of Compostela, the ancient medieval pilgrimage path. The sources of our research are the narratives of Brazilian pilgrims who, after having walked the Way of Saint James, published their experiences in works classified as hodoeporic literature, travel narratives. Our hypothesis is that, despite some may consider that the jacobean route has been losing its main characteristic, to wit, the Christian message and the religious attitude expected from this kind of phenomenon, there is a huge number of pilgrims that keep its spiritual tradition alive during their journey.

L'abbatiale Sainte-Foy de Conques (XIe - XIIe siècles) / The abbey church Sainte-Foy in Conques in the eleventh and twelfth centuries

Huang, Lei 20 December 2018 (has links)
This archaeological study of the building of the abbey church of Sainte-Foy in Conques, which is mainly focused on facing stones, has a double objective: on the one hand, to discern, as much as possible, material indications likely to enlighten the progress of construction work; on the other hand, to understand technical and economic dimensions and, more generally, the site organisation of this major Romanesque building project. Archaeological data, such as masonry discontinuities, distribution of different petrographic types, stone-cutting techniques, masons’ marks and putlog holes, make it possible to propose a construction phasing, which offers an independent and efficient framework for study of the sculpture of Sainte-Foy. The sculpture evolution is thus traced, through a global stylistic approach. Artistic transfers between Conques, Santiago de Compostela and Auvergne have also been better defined, which leads to reconsider the chronology of Romanesque churches of Auvergne, especially as Conques and Auvergne were located in the same technical geography during the second half of the eleventh century.

XII) / Between conflicts and alliances : an analysis of the episcopal policy of Diego Gelmírez through Compostelana Historia (XII century)

Monteiro, Hericly Andrade 28 March 2016 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / The Historia Compostelana is a twelfth-century work that narrates the trajectory and politicians made of Diego Gelmírez, bishop and later archbishop of Santiago de Compostela between the years 1100 and 1140. Arising low Galician nobility and from a young age linked not only to the clergy as also the high nobility, Gelmírez was responsible for the movement that propelled the growth of compostelana diocese and increasing pilgrimage to the shrine dedicated to St. Thiago. It has become even more important due to its activity as bishop, because it was under his command that the See climbed the archbishopric position after annexing territories of other Churches and also promote the theft of relics. This research present examined the role played by Diego Gelmírez during the years of his activity as bishop and later of Santiago de Compostela archbishop, moments that involved not only in episcopal activity, but also in military activities, assuming many times the leading role among the Galicians, gathering troops, were for their own benefit or service of the Castilian-Leonese monarchs Urraca I (1109-1126) and Alfonso VII (1126-1157). Through the analysis of his figure expressed in compostelana history, we seek to understand the complexity of their political actions both in episcopal level, as the warrior within and how both are intertwined taking into account the conflicts and alliances present in the context of the Iberian Peninsula of its time .

La autorrealización en el Camino de Santiago : Un análisis diacrónico sobre la representación de la autorrealización y el camino como símbolo de la vida en la poesía sobre el Camino a Santiago de Compostela / Self-consciousness in the Way of Saint James : A diachronic analysis of the representation of self-consciousness and the way as a symbol of life in poetry about the Way to Santiago de Compostela.

Holmgren Rylander, Linda January 2020 (has links)

Early Music Printing in Salamanca, 1494-1512

de Groot, Nicolas 15 July 2022 (has links)
From 1494 until 1512, around a dozen securely datable prints containing or relating to music were published in the city of Salamanca in present-day Spain. To date, these works have not been considered as a group. This thesis takes the perspective of the Salmantine printers to examine this corpus. To do so, the study gathers methods and secondary sources from a variety of fields, particularly combining history of the Iberian book with musicology. The thesis establishes Juan de Porras as the dominant printer in Salmantine music printing production with prominent connections to the Fonseca family, particularly the Archbishop of Santiago de Compostela, Alfonso II de Fonseca. Music production was also motivated by liturgical reforms sweeping across the Peninsula, as well as related language reforms occurring at the University of Salamanca. While liturgical prints had pre-established markets and patrons, marketing techniques in the music treatises show that these works were targeted to different segments of Iberian society. The thesis includes three appendices which 1) collate all identifiable persons in the prints, 2) present a catalogue of Salmantine music prints from 1494 to 1512, and 3) compare music types used in the liturgical books of the corpus.
