No. of bitstreams: 1 Roseane Silveira de Souza.pdf: 9178822 bytes, checksum: e991654ea40614b936cabb44497a3ed5 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2014-04-11 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This dissertation is founded on the life journey of Vicente Juarimbu Salles (1931 2013), an anthropologist, historian and folklorist of Pará, Brazil, and on his pioneering studies about the African descendant s presence in Pará s History. This research is circumscribed to the Cultural History s realm, in the line of Culture and Representation. It aims to identify how this theme is intertwined to Vicente Salles life history, relying on his historiography as the object of study concerning the subjects who were excluded from History. The investigation s accomplishment counted on interviews with the author, his family members, friends and scholars who research the African descendant s culture. Readings and interpretations were also conducted through Salles work books and titles from the Author s series MicroEdição , as well as his correspondence with several interlocutors. From these sources it was possible to collect the historian s childhood, youth and adult life data in both personal and professional spheres, which try to show how this intellectual built a view over the subjects placed in the margins of History, like the African descendants in Amazon. The work approaches his first steps in Pará s research, encouraged by the local poet and folklorist Bruno de Menezes and by Edison Carneiro, an anthropologist from Bahia. Later on, it encompasses the project development in the Academic sphere at the National Philosophy Faculty of Brazil s University in Rio de Janeiro, but overall, at the Campaign in Defense of Brazilian Folklore, in which Salles worked from 1961 to 1972. The research also approaches the theoretical scenery of Social Sciences and Humanities, that were undergoing transformation in the 1960 s decade, when Salles developed the investigation resulting in the work: The African descendant in Pará: under the slavery regimen, that showed that the African descendant, contrary to an imperative vision of those times, was remarkably important to the formation of Pará s society. Altogether, five historiographic works that build the researcher s journey through the theme are presented, and amongst them, diverse objects were selected. The study also gathers Salles dialogues with Pará s guitarist and composer Tó Teixeira in the studies about folklore and African descendant music, as well as the historian s struggle for the publication and propagation of his vast work. Ultimately, the dissertation exposes over 50 years of studies about the African descendant theme in Pará, revealing that it was a life project for Vicente Salles / Esta tese fundamenta-se na trajetória de vida do antropólogo, historiador e folclorista paraense Vicente Juarimbu Salles (1931 2013) em seus estudos pioneiros sobre a presença do negro na história do Pará.

Devenir afrodescendant à Bogotá Catégories, expériences et entreprises d’identification ethno-raciale en Colombie à l’ère multiculturelle / Becoming an Afrodescendent in Bogotá. Categories, experiences, and the work of ethnic-racial identification in Colombia in multicultural times

Hellebrandova, Klara 02 February 2017 (has links)
Race is as much social as an analytical category. Its duality represents a challenge for researchers interested in power relations within racialized societies. To study how race is simultaneously reproduced and contested in Colombia’s multicultural racial order, I set out to analyze social actors whose discourses and practices, in interaction with official institutions, contribute to reproduce and transform race and the racial orders within which they are embedded. My focus is on the identity entrepreneurship of racized social and political actors who participate in both the reproduction and transformation of the multicultural racial order. From ethnic leaders to researchers, these actors are many and diverse. Although they may all be described as racial entrepreneurs, this dissertation is centered on a specific group of young Afro-descendants from Bogotá, many of whom come from mixed-race families, are college-educated, are experiencing upward social mobility, and are working with black rights advocacy organizations in Colombia. I will show the importance of these factors for their identification as Afro-descendants through an analysis of their discourses and identity processes. They reproduce and contest the multicultural framework of which they are excluded by broadening the ethnic conception of the Black population to a conception that is directly linked to the historical experience of racism and racialization, one that is embedded within the global context of the African diaspora. Finally, by turning to an intersectional approach, through the analysis of their family and intimate relationships, I will demonstrate how privacy is politicized and politics privatized, to account for the central position of the body and of whiteness in both the racialization process and the strategies that aim at challenging it

Etude expérimentale et numérique des phénomènes de condensation dans un tube vertical partiellement immergé / Experimental and numerical study of condensation phenomena in a partially submerged vertical pipe

Khaophone, Davy 28 January 2016 (has links)
This thesis focuses on condensation phenomena occurring in a patented system designed by DCNS Company. The system ensures pressure regulation of nuclear boiler rooms embarked in naval vessels. Within the system occurs a downward liquid/vapor flow with phase change in a partially submerged vertical pipe. Subcooled liquid flows into the pipe and induce a suction of saturated vapor which condense in contact with liquid phase. This study aim to understand the physical phenomena occurring in the system and to simulate these phenomena. First, the condensation phenomena are studied with a test loop which conception, dimensioning, realization and exploitation were realized during this study. The experimental study identified the flow regimes occurring in the system and analyzed the impact of three parameters: the liquid flow rate, the liquid subcooling and the pressure at the system outlet. This study also proposed a simple model which determine the necessary conditions to completely drown the pipe, which minimize condensation phenomena. Thereafter, the numerical simulation of the two-phase flow was realized by CFD on ANSYS Fluent with the "Volume of Fluid" model. The condensation simulation was achieved by applying a condensation model used in literature. This model was added to the numerical code with User-Defined Functions (UDF). The simulation reproduced the weir regime flow at the pipe entrance and the vapor condensation inside the pipe.

Gariépy, Jean-François 07 1900 (has links)
The neural control of breathing is currently investigated on multiple animal models such as frogs and rats. We have used the lamprey as an experimental model to characterize the brainstem neural networks involved in the genesis and modulation of the respiratory rhythm. We have first characterized a new population of respiratory neurons in the paratrigeminal respiratory group (pTRG). The pTRG is a region that was shown to be essential to respiratory rhythmogenesis in lampreys. We have shown that the pTRG contains a group of neurons with complex axonal arborisations, including bilateral projections to the motoneuron pools of the brainstem that activate gills, as well as bilateral projections connecting the pTRGs on the two sides of the brainstem. These results suggest that pTRG neurons could participate in the descending control of respiratory motoneurons as well as the bilateral synchrony of the respiratory rhythm. We have then studied the neural mechanisms by which respiration is increased during locomotion. We have shown that the mesencephalic locomotor region (MLR), in addition to its role in controlling locomotion, also increases breathing during locomotion. Neurons in the MLR are anatomically segregated, those projecting to the respiratory centers being located more dorsally. We have abolished the contribution of the dorsal part of the MLR to respiratory changes by injecting glutamate receptor blockers locally in semi-intact preparations. We have shown that during swimming episodes, a major part of the respiratory effect is dependent on the dorsal part of the MLR. Our results confirm that the respiratory rhythm is generated by a rostrolateral region in the pons of lampreys and show that connections from locomotor centers can directly activate this region. These connections could be implicated in the increase of breathing activity related to locomotion.

Santana, Vanessa Alves 30 March 2012 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2015-04-16T15:23:22Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 arquivototal.pdf: 2718441 bytes, checksum: 8015064ddc4cfab62177908ec5890b80 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012-03-30 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / Libraries are places for organizing information in order to not only disseminate information that favors a particular social group, but also to serve as places for the preservation of history, memory and culture related to invisible groups, especially those under the category of social groups ethnically vulnerable, including African and Afro-descendants , whose participation and contribution to the formation of Brazilian society is still denied. This research aims to analyze how the process of organizing the ethnic and racial information occurs at Central Library of the UFPB. Its focus of analysis is on the OPAC, contextualizing university libraries, describing the terms concerning matters related to ethnic and racial information in all areas of knowledge, surveying how they are classified and how they were treated within these libraries and thus identifying the importance of ethnic and racial information for preservation of theAfrican/Afro-descendant memory for access and use purposes by researchers, students, representatives of social and black movements. Accordingly,we used the descriptive and exploratory research as well as the qualitative and quantitative approaches for both of them fit well together and are essential in regard to clarity and reliability of the results. The terms founds during search, seem inconsistent, representing only 0,165% of the total of titles that make up the archive of this library demonstrating deficiency of these institutions and the lack of information with the ethnic and racial theme being necessary to adopt an indexing policy with use of the terms that can provide visibility for these data.

Maria CecÃlia Felix CalaÃa 23 April 2013 (has links)
This research aims to reflect upon and systematize the black arts movement, consisting of artists, mostly of African descent, who exposed their work weekly at PraÃa da RepÃblica in SÃo Paulo from 1960 to 1980. The relevance of the issue shows up as long as we present an intense and expressive set of 81 artists who worked together for 20 years, developing artistic tendencies which left a legacy of knowledge to the future generation. In this work we propose to study various aspects of the political, social and artistic movement of African descent expression as well as to collaborate with the advancement of the studies and the researches on black culture in Brazil, given its relevance and its role in Brazilian education. Therefore, we investigated how the process of building the foundation of black artistic movement at PraÃa da RepÃblica took place, in the perspective of the protagonists and written sources. The search follows the path of African descent methodology which has the subject-researcher as the one who looks from inside the locus of research. This investigative method comes from interpretative practices. Moreover, we take the model of participatory research which aims to understand the agent who researches him/herself or their group home, a direct relationship between the researcher and the objects. We conducted the study using oral history and every-day-life to collect information about the artistic movement. Among the results we can say that there are continuities and permanencies of African Art, in the African descendantsâ productions. The documentation raised in this research allows a historical assessment about the magnitude and importance of this artistic movement of African basis at PraÃa da RepÃblica in Sao Paulo, during the years cited above. We perceived the existence of the third generation of artists from precursors and we realized, albeit with less intensity, that the movement has other developments to the present, despite not having the same magnitude of the past.

From the wattle and daub house to children of PhDs: school trajectory of generations of Japanese descendants (from the 1950s to the 1990s)

Hiromi Shibata 23 June 2009 (has links)
This thesis was meant to investigate one of the outstanding Japanese characteristic: the effort to educate their children. The data investigated was based on the accounts of the school trajectories which were chosen by means of half-structured interviews and of groups of parents and pupils who belonged to families of Japanese origin, from different ages that went to school after the Second World War. The research was done between 2005 and 2008, in São Paulo. 49 people were interviewed: the parents and their children, the directors and the teachers. We decided to develop the research with some groups of ex-students of Japanese descendent from Colégio Bandeirantes (SP), trying to examine the relationship between family and school, as well as the success in school of the Japanese ethnic group. In essence, the thesis was based on an approach that took into consideration the historical context and how the individuals were set within such spaces, in order to understand the school trajectory of the students and the ways of domestic transmission of the cultural capital. In order to base our hypothesis we made reference to Pierre Bourdieu for the possibilities of interpretation offered by the concept of habitus, cultural capital and social capital. The analysis of the trajectories allowed us to verify a family dynamic guided to the catering of the challenges of the school system that left little opportunity to the evocation of the Japanese tradition.

Where our family walked: paths and narrative of the history afro-descendant families in the post-abolition / Por onde andou nossa famÃlia: veredas e narrativas da histÃria de famÃlias afrodescendentes no pÃs-aboliÃÃo

KÃssia Mota de Sousa 12 June 2015 (has links)

Instituto de Estudos da Linguagem / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-15T22:17:42Z (GMT). / Abstract: This study characterizes the hip hop cultural movement as a literacy agency and its activists, the belonging communities and those which are related to it, as literacy agents. The study shows, from sociol-historical perspective that the unique literacies used by the young participants of this research have allowed them to redimension their identities, obtaining new meanings for their social roles and places, as established by a society still marked by tense and uneven racial and social relationships. The basic theoretical framework of this study is given by the Bakhtinian-perspective on language (Voloshinov, Bakhtin, etc) ; the multiple and heterogeneous literacy approach of the New Studies of Literacyi (Kleiman, 1995; 2006a, Barton and Hamilton, 2000; Rojo, 2009), the Cultural Studies contributions for the study of identity (Hall, 2000, 2003; Gilroy, 2001; Canclini, 2005 and the studies about education among Afro-descendants in Brazil (Barros, 2005; Fonseca, 2005; Araujo e Silva, 2005; Cunha, 2005; Cardoso, 2005 e Cruz, 2005, entre outros). The data for the study was obtained from questionnaires, open-talk meetings, individual interviews and autobiographies, and from materials produced and socialized by the participants, such as DVDs, CDs, fanzines, rap lyrics, projects, guides for lectures and workshops. The analysis pointed out a reinvention of the language practices by these subjects, in dialogue with school literacies, their daily routine literacy practices and with those practices made by black movement. The configuration of this set of written and oral language non-linear, multimodal, heterogeneous and creative practices is called in this study literacies of reexistence, literacies since they responsively contest, create, propose changes in language uses that have already been socially ratified and valorized. / Doutorado / Lingua Materna / Doutor em Linguística Aplicada
