Miljöpåverkan från efterbehandling av förorenade områden : En livscykelanalys av schaktsanering ur ett klimat- och resurshanteringsperspektiv / Environmental impact from remediation of contaminated areas

Oleskog, Astrid January 2023 (has links)
In Sweden, there are currently approximately 86,000 inventoried sites that are identified as being contaminated. A contaminated site can have a harmful effect on humans, animals and the environment when exposed to the contaminants. Contaminated areas may therefore need to be remediated to locally improve soil quality and to reduce risks. A problem that has been noticed in the industry is that remediation of land can also lead to significant negative environmental consequences, such as the release of greenhouse gases and the use of fossil resources. For example, the Swedish environmental quality objective "Reduced climate impact" might not be achieved unless there are improvements. The most common method to remediate a contaminated site in Sweden is through “dig and dump”. The purpose of this study was to investigate the climate impact and resource usage from “dig and dump” by performing a life cycle assessment of this most common remediation method. The climate impact of the method was also compared with other remediation methods. The results showed that for “dig and dump”, transports and landfill of the soil contributed to the greatest climate impact and resource use. Through reduced transport distances, use of vehicles with lower energy consumption or exchange for more renewable fuels, the environmental impact was reduced. Landfilling of excavated soil was also energy demanding, and incentives to recycle and reuse soil to a greater extent than is done today are preferred. In comparison with other remediation methods, biochar was a method that caused a relatively small climate impact. In addition, biochar led to a more resource-efficient waste management through reduced disposal of soil, organic waste, and extraction of virgin raw materials for refilling.

[en] FASHION INDUSTRY AND ITS SOCIO-ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS: A CRITICAL PERSPECTIVE AND CASE STUDY IN THE ATACAMA DESERT. / [pt] INDÚSTRIA DA MODA E SEUS IMPACTOS SOCIOAMBIENTAIS: UMA PERSPECTIVA CRÍTICA E ESTUDO DE CASO NO DESERTO DO ATACAMA

MELANIE CHRISTINE B N DE M CARVALHO 21 December 2023 (has links)
[en] This work presents a review of the academic and journalistic literature on the fashion sustainability and a field study on the Atacama clothing dump. The objective is to be a compendium on the impacts of the fashion industry and bring initiatives that aim to minimize them. Fashion is the second most polluting industry in the world. It represents 2 percent of world GDP but contributes 8 percent of total carbon emissions. It is the second largest consumer of water: 10 percent of the supply and 20 percent of the global industrial water pollution. More than 90 million tons of textile waste end up in landfills each year, a quarter of which is incinerated with high impact due to the use of synthetic fibers. Fashion s biggest challenge is to be circular and sustainable. In 2021 the largest illegal fashion dump in the world with 300 hectares was reported in Chile. In 2023, through field research and georeferencing, 100 clothing areas were found: 50 with fires, 16 with discards and 34 with mixed waste. The economy around the dump focuses on pieces collected for the livelihood of poor families. The local study and satellite images allowed us to observe changes in the dynamics of illegal disposal. Designers can use efficient modeling, circular economy, upcycling, recycling, use of biodegradable fibers forsustainability. Consumers, on the other hand, can support the circular economy, be conscious with purchases, washing clothes, their parts and the traceability of the materials and processes used in the part.

Om informationstekniskt bevis

Ekfeldt, Jonas January 2016 (has links)
Information technology evidence consists of a mix of representations of various applications of digital electronic equipment, and can be brought to the fore in all contexts that result in legal decisions. The occurrence of such evidence in legal proceedings, and other legal decision-making, is a phenomenon previously not researched within legal science in Sweden. The thesis examines some of the consequences resulting from the occurrence of information technology evidence within Swedish practical legal and judicial decision-making. The thesis has three main focal points. The first consists of a broad identification of legal problems that information technology evidence entails. The second focal point examines the legal terminology associated with information technology evidence. The third focal point consists of identifying sources of error pertaining to information technology evidence from the adjudicator’s point of view. The examination utilizes a Swedish legal viewpoint from a perspective of the public trust in courts. Conclusions include a number of legal problems in several areas, primarily in regards to the knowledge of the adjudicator, the qualification of different means of evidence and the consequences of representational evidence upon its evaluation. In order to properly evaluate information technology evidence, judges are – to a greater extent than for other types of evidence – in need of (objective) knowledge supplementary to that provided by parties and their witnesses and experts. Furthermore, the current Swedish evidence terminology has been identified as a complex of problems in and of itself. The thesis includes suggestions on certain additions to this terminology. Several sources of error have been identified as being attributable to different procedures associated with the handling of information technology evidence, in particular in relation to computer forensic investigations. There is a general need for future research focused on matters regarding both standards of proof for and evaluation of information technology evidence. In addition, a need for deeper legal scientific studies aimed at evidence theory has been identified, inter alia regarding the extent to which frequency theories are applicable in respect to information technology evidence. The need for related further discussions on future emerging areas such as negative evidence and predictive evidence are foreseen.
