Pulse, pulse, somersault

Gorodi, Suzie Mei January 2009 (has links)
This project explores notions of seeing and knowing, underpinned by performative and phenomenological fields of enquiry that relate this exploration to the sensate experience of the viewer. A specific interest considers ideas of embodied vision with an aim at generating events that vacillate in the bodies of the audience. A primary focus is on the arena of encounter as a multi-sensory experiential event, and within this context this project proposes a temporal and spatial framework for exploration. Studio methods develop a cinematic-body of video work negotiating performative practice involving video projection and temporality. Pivotal goals are to explore the significance of the ‘chiasm’ between seeing and knowing, raising questions about how humans see, and how humans make how they see matter. Therefore, this thesis project progresses along experimental approaches to video installation, particularly in relation to the phenomena of encounter, the viewer, and film experience. The central motivation of this video practice is aimed at corporeal affect in the body/s of the audience. This thesis project is constituted as 80% practice-based work accompanied by a 20% exegesis.

Upplevelser av att bemöta patienter med psykisk ohälsa : ett sjuksköterskeperspektiv inom vården / Experiences of encountering mental health illness in health care : A nurses perspective within the health care system

Shamshiri, Atena January 2015 (has links)
Background: Mental health illness is common within the Swedish population and is considered an endemic disease. People with mental health illness can suffer from psychological or physical issues and will turn to the health care system, where they will meet nurses. Aim: Shed light on nurses’ experiences of encountering patients with mental health illness in health care facilities. Method: A literature review based on eight qualitative studies. Result: Three main categories and two subcategories were created. The first main category was the importance of education in the encounter with patients with mental health illness with positive experiences in regards to the importance of education and negative experiences in regards to the importance of education as subcategories. The second main category was perceived professional role in the encounter with patients with mental health illness. The third main category was perceived feelings in the encounter with patients with mental illness. The subcategories were positive experiences and negative experiences. Discussion: Findings in the main categories were discussed, where the nurses' lack of knowledge and skills are evident. This means that patients with mental health illness are not cared for in a way they should. The lack of knowledge can lead to fear of the unknown as well as feeling like psychiatry isn't a part of the general nurses’ responsibility.

Adding Information to Complement a Football Broadcast : Exploring the possibilities of improving the viewer experience of a broadcasted football game with the use of additional information through motion tracking

Olsson, Tom January 2018 (has links)
This thesis aims to explore the possibilities of improving the viewer experience of a broadcasted football game with the use of additional information, applied to the footage with the use of motion tracking. This work was conducted in collaboration with SVT Design. which is the inhouse department of the Swedish television network (SVT) tasked with designing, developing and creating graphical solutions. One of the systems developed by SVT Design is the character generator Caspar CG. Which is an open source CG system used worldwide for broadcasting productions. In the spring of 2018, SVT Design presented the idea of incorporating a motion tracking feature within Caspar CG. This would be a feature which could be used during broadcasted sporting events to provide the viewers with additional information regarding the ongoing event. With the use of motion tracking, the additional information could be presented in a dynamic manner in the sense that the information would follow the motion of the tracked object. This thesis aimed to answer the following three research questions; What type of information could be displayed? When and how could this information be displayed? and lastly, how could the addition of information change the viewer’s experience of the football game? The conclusions aimed to provide SVT Design with a set of guidelines and requirements regarding the design and implementation of the additional information in a manner that would promote a positive viewer experience. The methodology applied for this thesis was a qualitative methodology utilizing research activities such as semi-structured interviews featuring three staff members of SVTs department of sport productions. The observation of two broadcasted football games. Along with two focus groups in which the participants were presented with a prototype developed in Adobe After Effects. Consisting of footage from the 2010 FIFA world cup along with additional information that was applied with the use of motion tracking. Through the analysis of the collected data, several recurring keywords and notions were identified and translated into requirements. The requirements, which was structured around the three research questions. Is for example that the information needs to be player specific and to provide an insight of the potential outcome of the game. Another example of a requirement being that the information is to be displayed when there is a break in action during the game. The result from this thesis indicated that if the specified requirements were met. The additional information applied during the broadcast could provide an improvement of the viewer’s experience of watching the broadcasted football game.

Mapping the uncertainties in internet-based clinical trials : a systematic review and qualitative study

Brice, Anne January 2017 (has links)
This thesis maps the growth of the use of internet technologies in randomised controlled trials in health care and public health, and explores the methodological and ethical issues that arise from their use from the perspective of researchers and participants. Online clinical trials are growing in number, and claim to offer benefits for researchers and participants, providing solutions to some of the inherent problems associated with traditional trials. However, little is known about how many internet-based trials have been conducted, what methodological research has been undertaken, or what impact the new technologies might have on researcher or participant experience. The thesis followed a step-by-step approach, using information science, research synthesis, and qualitative methods. The creation of a database of internet-based clinical trials established that they have grown rapidly in number, use internet technologies primarily to deliver an intervention, predominantly in behavioural, mental health, or life-style public health settings. A two-stage systematic review, comprising a descriptive map and a qualitative synthesis, established what is known about the methods, conduct or participant experience in internet-based trials. A qualitative primary study was then carried out, based on the findings of the review, to further explore the views, attitudes and experiences of researchers, participants and the public, into the motivations, benefits or barriers to taking part in internet-based clinical trials. Themes emerging from the research suggest complex interactions between design and technology, particularly in the area of participant characteristics and choice; convenience versus intrusion; impact of time and place; the pace of change and impact of societal changes in the use of technology. A range of ethical considerations emerged, including the nature of informed consent, ethical approval, and the need for a systematic approach to patient and public involvement. Recommendations are made to help inform and improve research practice in the digital age.

The textual structure I propose for this thesis shows the creation and sustaining of a space where I could name, in first person, the processes I lived during my own history with the voice. I narrate moments of impoverishment of the experience, passing through the silencing of my own voice, submitted to what others had to say, or about what the renowned scientific fields had to say about the voice, as well as the experience of collapse lived through the contact wit the voices of the working songs of the Destaladeiras de Fumo (Workers who manually struke tobacco leafs) from Arapiraca, when I suspended all the truths I knew by then about the voice. At last, I narrate how the “Voice Atelier” happens, an opens space for invention of a voice-experience, a voice that can listen and be listened, can narrate its own history, inhabits its own body and, exposes, looks after and is aware of itself. Through this pathway of the voice-experience we reach the self-voice: A voice capable of self-enunciating and self-inventing.

Upplevelser hos personer som lever med kolostomi eller ileostomi / Experiences of people living with a colostomy or ileostomy

Johansson, Sofia, Johansson, Stina January 2018 (has links)
Background: Stoma surgeries are increasing in Sweden each year. Colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel diseases, and trauma are some conditions that might lead to an ostomy. Having an ostomy could bring changes to the body and the person’s body image, leaving the person feeling imprisoned in his or her own body. Aim: The aim was to illuminate people’s experiences of getting and living with an ostomy. Method: A literature-based study was conducted in which nine qualitative articles were studied and analysed. Three new themes and eight sub-themes arose from the analysed articles. Results: The main themes of the study were: ”Changes in close relationships and sexual life”, where it was found to be difficult to start a new sexual relationship after the surgery and that the stoma also had effects on family relations and friendships. ”Limitations in social and physical activities”, where the result showed that persons with ostomies were constantly worried about leakage and odour, and had difficulties performing physical activities such as work or exercise. ”A new self”, people who had had stoma surgery were found to experience difficulties in adapting to their new body and accepting the stoma as part of their body. Common for all themes was the importance of support from family and friends. Conclusion: Persons who have had colostomy or ileostomy surgery all have different needs and challenges. It is important to see to their individual needs.

Enhancing audience experience on Live music

XIAO, DAXIN January 2018 (has links)
Increasingly, people attend live music event for diversified experiences that they could not have from listening to music at home or watching a broadcast on TV. Some seek to interact with their idol on site; others enjoy the collective action with audience members who share with them the same music preference. Enhancing audience experiences on live events, therefore, gains popularity. Research focus on crowd behaviors and the possibility of how implementing new technologies into this area. However, few studies have investigated have investigated the impact of individual promotion in the crowds by offering them a particular moment enabling them to feel more connected to the event. To deeply understand requirements from different stakeholders, audiences, and performers, a participatory workshop was conducted through which they acted as co-creators in the development process. Additionally, three qualitative evaluations were carried out to collect feedback on how the design system “HeartBeat” could enhance the audience’s experience. The research found that promoting individual impact and collective action are not conflicting with each other. Instead, they complement one another throughout the live session. “HeartBeat” is not only a design prototype that aims to increase audience experience but also a starting point for future design explorations in live music settings.

Experiência e produção fotográfica gerando espaços para a criação de imagens a partir de noções geométricas em uma turma de 8ª série do Ensino Fundamental de uma escola pública

Passos, Willi Gonçalves dos January 2012 (has links)
This dissertation is aimed at seeking for connections between Mathematics and Visual Arts in the study of geometrical concepts. Its main focus is on the contribution that both photographical and computational resources, mainly photoshop, among the latter, bring to the opening of spaces for students’ artistic expression. It also opens itself to approaching forms of experience (BONDÍA, 2002) within an 8th grade class of a public school located in Porto Alegre, which dedicates itself to the creation of images. This way the students´ photographic production is not considered as just predefined images, but mainly a creative process. Mathematical notions such as angle, proportion and symmetry as well as the students’ search for their application play a special part in this production. The study also aims at instituting the students as articulators in the processes of photographing objects and creating images, respectively, supported by photographic resources and computational tools. The theoretical approach of this dissertation is composed by the notion of experience (BONDÍA, 2002) and ideas linked to the employment of educational photographic resources (COSTA, 2006). In the dissertation I describe the context of the study and present a detailed analysis of its actions, looking for traces of possible experiences from both, students and mine.

Packaging Design for E-commerce : Development of a secondary packaging with focus on easy handling and creating a positive unboxing experience

Thorsén, Amanda January 2018 (has links)
The e-commerce is an area that has grown considerably in recent years and continues to grow at a rapid pace. It is thereby becoming more and more important for com-panies to distinguish themselves amongst others, not least when it comes to getting customers to return for a second purchase. A good way to do this is to create a posi-tive experience for consumers. As the interaction with the customers has shifted from physical meetings to a computer screen through the spread of online retail, it is im-portant to nourish the few encounters that remain. An important point of interaction is the receiving of purchased goods. The packaging in which the goods are shipped, is thus an important source of communication to the customer, and a perfect means of displaying the company values. This thesis project aims at examining how an optimal packaging for this area can be created, and this was done in collaboration with Arcwise, a SCA business unit, who works with a special type of corrugated cardboard that allows for the production of rounded shaped packages. During the contextual work of this project, where a basic analysis of the market was made, a number of needs could be established. To be able to create a positive user experience and thus a competitive edge in the market, these needs must be fulfilled by packages made for shipping online-bought items. Following these needs, the project’s design phase was carried out with the aim of creating a packaging solution by using the corrugated board developed by Arcwise. This work was done by using creative methods such as brainstorming, workshop and prototyping. To evaluate the ideas, a weighting against criteria was done, and tests were made when the packaging concepts were shipped from Sundsvall to Luleå, to test their durability. Six concepts were narrowed down to a final package, which clearly exhibits the prop-erties of the material. It was designed with the aim for easy folding and packing, and to create a positive unboxing experience for the end customer.
