Feuilletons dramatiques et transferts culturels franco-brésiliens au XIXe siècle : enjeux d'une édition de la "Semaine Lyrique" de Martins Pena / Theater serials and French-Brazilian cultural transfer in the 19th century : aspects of an edition of Martins Pena's "Lyric Week"Gimenez, Priscila Renata 05 March 2014 (has links)
In the perspective of researches about literature and press theory and about cultural transfers, this study presents a comparative analysis between Hector Berlioz’ and Théophile Gautier's theater serials and Brazilian dramatic writer Martins Pena’s serials about lyric theater wrote by the Brazilian dramatic writer Martins Pena. He wrote the series “Lyric Week” published in Jornal do Commercio in 1846-1847. In a diachronic perspective which consider the process of periodical press globalization in the 19th century, this investigation proposes to reconstruct and observe the transfers of media cultural practices from the French press to the Brazilian press which determined the acclimatization of the theater serials in Brazil. Emphasizing the method analysis, the construction of critical discourse and style of French theater serials and that of Martins Pena, we focused our study on the literary aspects as well as on the impact their adaptation had in the Brazilian press. Specifically, the form and manifestation of the (journalistic) irony in the writing of the columnists constitute the focus of the analysis. Our hypothesis is that Martins Pena adapted aspects of the French columnists’ literary writing, creating an autonomous and legitimate poetic. In addition to being the first cultural content chronicle series of the daily press of Rio de Janeiro, the “ Lyric Week” distinguishes itself from previous Brazilian theater serials through the ironic and fictional writing assimilated and recreated throughout the series by Martins Pena.

Martins Pena crítico-folhetinista : um espectador ideal do teatro lírico na corte /Gimenez, Priscila Renata. January 2009 (has links)
Abstract: The great comedy writer Martins Pena dedicated himself to more than playwriting. He was also the author of articles and critical pieces in the feuilleton section A Semana Lírica of Jornal do Commercio, from September of 1846 to October of 1847. This thesis is an analytic study of Martins Pena's critical feuilletons and his relation to the criticism produced during the first phase of Brazilian Romanticism. It is intended to prove Martins Pena's criticism as active and conscious, produced through a characteristic ironic-satiric style of writing related to the romanticism mode and aesthetic of his time. The figure of irony emerges in this analyze as the reinforcement of the critical depth of his ideas, exposing in his text the deficiencies of the lyrical drama of that moment. Therefore, Martins Pena as a drama critic shows an overdeveloped and refined view of the musical and theatrical environment. In fact, his critical observation was more sophisticated than the way such environment was (re)produced and performed in the stages of the two main theatres of Rio de Janeiro. In order to develop and verify this hypothesis, a general analyze of Pena's critical feuilletons was carried out; followed by a comparison between his texts and the ones produced by other critics of the same period. Through this comparison it is possible to establish relations of proximity and distance that demonstrate the meaning of irony in the feuilletons. The general purpose of this study is not only to show how gifted Martins Pena was as a feuilleton critic, but also to assert his legacy to Brazilian criticism and lyrical drama through his audacity and witty. Finally, all of this aims at acknowledging his place among the high intellectuals of his time, recognizing him as one of the most important Brazilian drama critics of the nineteenthcentury. / Mestre

This study aimed to conceptualize the serial space and analyze its trajectory in the São Paulo press over nearly a century. Although it is not possible to say with confidence what was the first newspaper from Sao Paulo to serve the serial space, it is certain that the Correio Paulistano and O Estado de S. Paulo, periodicals founded in the second half of the nineteenth, are significant examples of different directions undertaken so here is conceptualized as a space feuilleton. Using as source of these securities, as well as the Folha da Noite and Folha da Manhã, made public in the twentieth century, it sought to understand the history of this area, since its inception, through the transformations over time to be abandoned by newspapers. This was to distinguish the genres that there were published and the different typographic marks that accompanied them, and their migration to other pages of the newspapers. During the research it was possible to identify a variant of the genre still very little studied by our historiography, the film serial, which was printed in the distribution of episodes featured on the big screen, which made the viewer also a reader.

January 2008 (has links)
Abstract: This research was carried out to analyze the six novels of the series El capitán Alatriste (1996- 2006), by the Spanish writer Arturo Pérez-Reverte, to prove the thesis that the rewriting of the Spanish 19th century organized by the series claims at spreading an "objective and true" knowledge of history, by means of a monological vision of historical facts turned into fiction, thus reaffirming the presuppositions of classical historical narrative. Therefore, our analysis is based on the investigation of the formal hybridism which is formed by means of the simultaneous exploitation of genres, such as the historical narrative, memoirs, the didactic novel, the picaresque novel and the serial novel whose paradigm is provided by Alexandre Dumas' works. In the analysis of serial rewriting, we made use of Umberto Eco's theorizations (1964 and 1978) about mass literature, trying to prove that narratives takes on recurrent forms, in which one may find out homologies between the narrative structures, the plot and the author's ideological propositions. In the examination of the narrative procedures, among other features we analyzed the characteristics of the character-narrator, who acts as an authorized interpreter of the historical events turned into fiction, to the extent that he also takes the shape of a spokesman of value system confirmed in the novels. In that case, we proved that the revisiting of the Spanish history proposed in novels tends to exalt the heroic dimensions of the Spanish imperial history. / Doutor

[pt] PÁGINA NÃO VIRADA DO FOLHETIM: A VINGANÇA NO CINEMA CONTEMPORÂNEO / [en] THE FEUILLETON S UNTURNED PAGE: THE REVENGE IN CONTEMPORARY CINEMACLAUDIO FELICIO PIFANO SILVA 12 July 2021 (has links)
[en] The feuilleton has other elements besides the melodrama and has its own characteristics. The aim of the thesis is to investigate the resumption of the feuilleton by contemporary cinema with an emphasis on the theme of revenge. Among so many pages in the feuilleton, the revenge page went beyond the literary universe and became part of a fictional memory. Since it was released in the 19th century, The Count of Monte Cristo has been taken up again through irony, criticism or parody in diverse products of mass culture and in different media. Due to the importance of Dumas novel, the present work makes Monte Cristo a theoretical place to analyze revenge as a narrative machine through which filmmakers discuss contemporary issues. As corpus for analysis, the selected films were Kill Bill – Volume 1 and Volume 2 (2003/2004), by Quentin Tarantino, Old Boy (2003), by Chan Wook Park, and The skin I live in (2011), by Pedro Almodóvar. In these films, the theme of revenge brings up issues of narrative genre, seriality and technology.

L'art du feuilleton dans les Habits Noirs de Paul Féval / The art of serial novel in Paul Féval’s Les habits noirsNtsame Mve, Carole 05 December 2012 (has links)
Our Thesis is based on the eight novels from the Paul Féval’s cycle Les habits noirs (The black clothes): Les habits noirs, Cœur d’acier, La rue de Jérusalem, L’arme invisible, Maman Léo, L’avaleur de sabre, Les compagnons du trésor, La bande cadet. We decided to study the series Les habits noirs of Paul Féval because we are convinced that this cycle of novels requests the collaboration of the reader. We do not claim to exhaust all the interpretative potential which these novels conceal, but we think in contrast that many things remain to be said. The studies undertaken in our work are only one contribution in the field of literature, and more precisely in literary criticism. The 19th Century in France is obviously the era of the rise of many innovations. All the fields of technological and intellectual activity will know important changes. Technological and scientific fields, as well as Humanities, have known changes that deeply modified them. Paul Féval is often considered as one of the most popular novelists of the 19th Century: he wrote tales, short stories, books of history, autobiographical, fantastic, historical, social, epistolary, crime novels, plays; he was also journalist and lecturer. Our work is devoted to all that refers to the human and intellectual formation in Paul Féval’s Les habits noirs. Our issue is to know if Les habits noirs contains the main characteristics of the 19th Century serial novels.

The aim of my thesis is to show the great originality of Jean-Louis Dubut de Laforest’s literary work and to make accessible his ideological convictions and aesthetic choices to the contemporary reader. The inscription of his novels in the so-called popular literature can be explained by the importance given to the action and mostly by the means of their distribution: a great number of them were first published in serial form in the popular press of his time. However, each of his creations is deeply rooted in its historical background, which is reflected in it and commented on by the author who tries to influence his era through the narrative invention by virtue of his social ambition so frequently expressed. Therefore, a part of my study consists in analyzing the social and political context of the period corresponding to the writing of the novels, between 1880 and 1902, by using history researches. After a detailed presentation of the some eighty volumes of which is composed Jean-Louis Dubut de Laforest’s work, the matter is to study the whole by privileging certain thematic axes where the author’s choices are particularly meaningful. The motifs which are examined in the second part of the study give the name of the different chapters : women’s condition, prostitution, homosexuality, anti-Semitism, the press, science and religion relationship, political action, trade unions and mutual benefit societies, anarchism and Utopia, and the memory of the Franco-Prussian War. The last chapter deals with the reception of this monumental work and the reader’s status in the novels.

O romance-folhetim de Camilo Castelo Branco e Eça de Queirós / The roman feuilleton of Camilo Castelo Branco and Eça de QueirósCastro, Andréa Trench de 01 June 2012 (has links)
Our research is aimed at approximating two writers Camilo Castelo Branco and Eça de Queirós who are practically contemporary, and usually studied separately in literature manuals, and even at university for they are classified as belonging to two antagonistic literary movements. Through the perspective of the historical comparatism and cultural transfers, we intend to reconsider a panoramic way of studying, which separates the writers because of didactic reasons, as well as the perspective that the French literature and culture would have represented to Portugal and its writers an hegemonic and centralizing influence, which is a dominant perspective in part of the literary criticism, by adopting a new perspective on the initial production of both writers and rethinking some aspects of the Roman feuilleton from the 19th century produced in Portugal. We will therefore perform a comparative analysis of the following novels: Les Mystères de Paris (1843), by the French writer Eugène Sue; Mistérios de Lisboa (1854), by Camilo Castelo Branco; and O Mistério da Estrada de Sintra (1870), by Eça de Queirós and Ramalho Ortigão.
