Tecer amizade, habitar o deserto: uma etnografia do quilombo Família Magalhães (GO) / Weaving friendship, inhabiting the desert: an ethnography of the maroon community Família Magalhães (GO)Perutti, Daniela Carolina 11 December 2015 (has links)
This thesis derives from an ethnography of a rural black community named Família Magalhães (Nova Roma-GO), originated in the Kalunga territory. Since that group is recognized by the Brazilian State as a maroon community, I tried to discuss specific ways in which it produces relations between relatives and non-relatives. By the latter case, I mean agents of the federal and state governments, presidents of the republic, deputies, prosecutors, lawyers, mayors, councilors and also acquaintances, neighbors, cronies and cohorts. In this plot, cultivating friends and engaging politically appear as privileged ways of weaving territories, which are understood by its relational character, always subject to being traversed by relations of agonistic character. Thus, I investigated how continuous movements of production of bonds and segmentations are managed among members of Família Magalhães, bringing up particular agencies of this group regarding their experience of otherness.

Vänskap och kultur : En kvalitativ studie om immigranters upplevelse av deras ackulturationsprocess med fokus på etniska vänskapsrelationer / Friendship and culture : A qualitative study about immigrants experiences regarding their acculturation process with focus on ethnical friendship tiesBander, Zerina, Gac Allamand, Gabriel January 2018 (has links)
The aim of this study is to obtain a deeper understanding for how immigrants who migrated from Chile and Bosnia and Herzegovina and are residing in Sweden, experience their acculturation process in relation to their friendship relations’ ethnical background. The research focuses on immigrants’ subjective experience of their own acculturation process which is then analyzed with social psychological theories including Social exchange theory, Acculturation and Symbolic interactionism, together with concepts belonging to these theories. Through semi structured interviews, a result emerged which shows that the experienced acculturation has an influence on whom one chooses to establish a friendship relation with. The result shows that immigrants whos acculturation indicates towards integration in the host country tend to develop friendship ties with people of the ethnical majority population. Acculturation made clear in a feeling of separation and marginalization results in that the immigrant solely turns to friends belonging of the own ethnical country of birth. Furthermore, the result shows that language is the most contributory factor for integration, followed by work and schooling in the host country as other important contributory factors.

Remedios Varo et Leonora Carrington en miroir : images croisées / Remedios Varo and Leonora Carrington : connectionsMartinez, Fanny 11 September 2018 (has links)
This PhD dissertation focuses on a literary and pictorial comparative analysis of European-born artists Remedios Varo (1908-1963) and Leonora Carrington (1917-2011) who, in the 1930s, participated in the Surrealist group in Paris and then went into exile in Mexico during World War II. The purpose of this study is to identify points of convergence and divergence in the creative process of these two artists. Equally important, this thesis will endeavor to enable a dialogue between their artworks and to examine their creative collaboration while focusing on the concept of images. The standpoint of this dissertation is at the same time comparative and multidisciplinary, for it is formulated at the junction of art history, literary analysis, pictorial analysis, and history. The notion of image, the conceptual contours of which are explained in the preamble 2 is to be understood in almost all of its significations – from pictorial and verbal image to mind-made image, in which oneiric image is to be included – and is seen as a conceptual intersection point par excellence. The first part of this study questions the construction of images or, using a metaphor borrowed from the alchemical language, the image laboratory. Chapter 1 introduces and theorizes the notion of surrealist image in order to reveal the ways in which both artists integrated into their works the surrealist state of mind, being an invitation to question the visible world, and went beyond it through the elaboration of “world models”, by analogy with specific alchemical and occultist processes. Chapter 2 not only considers exile as a historical and cultural context that gave way to profound mutual and dynamic influences, but also as a pivotal notion that enables to comprehend, in their productions, phenomena of reappropriation, hybridization, creative transfusion and transgression. The second part delves deeper into the comparison of images realized by both artists – an analysis that follows a dialectical pattern that combines the concepts of image-reflections and image-distortions. Chapter 3 analyzes female self-representations and is dedicated to reveal the way in which these representations challenge the images of the feminine as elaborated by male surrealist creators. Notions of transvestism and masquerade are examined and presented as inseparable from the quest to self-discovery.Finally, Chapter 4 pays attention to both artists’ “mirrors of relation” and “relation to mirrors”. On the one hand, this analysis addresses the creative friendship that unites both artists in their work, more specifically in their written expression, and the mechanisms of fictionalization pertaining to it. The mirror effects that are at play in the images of both artists who created fourhanded works and the pictorial motif of the mirror are also focused on in this research. Indeed, the mirror may be considered as an emblem of Remedios Varo’s and Leonora Carrington’s creative approach, not only as a specular tool but also and more importantly, as an object of symbolism and magic.

Double-edged sword : how international students on an intensive programme cope with a new national and academic culture where few host culture students existSweeney Bradley, Irene January 2017 (has links)
The Work-Based Project (WBP) set out to explore how international students in a Swiss hospitality institution manage to cope with two quite different cultures to where they came from i.e. the Swiss national culture and the British academic culture. Previous research on international students have been in locations where the host culture student is in plentiful supply which is a way to help the international student adjust socioculturally. Within this WBP, the student body is made up of mainly international students and very few Swiss students. Concepts that were used to assist the exploration of this topic include: what influenced the choice of Switzerland and the institution as a place to study, along with how the information was searched for (Mazzarol and Soutar’s, 2002 Push-Pull Model; The Model of International Students’ Preferences by Cubillo, Sánchez and Cerviño, 2006). Hyde’s (2012) adaptation of Oberg’s 1960 stages of adaptation explored culture shock as a concept followed by Berry’s (1997) acculturation and coping strategies. It investigated the use of friendship networks as a way to help students cope in this new environment (Bochner, McLeod and Lin, 1977; Schartner, 2015). These models were used to provide a framework for the questioning used in the gathering of the primary research. The study is applied in nature and using a case study allowed for the exploration of the rich detail that was needed to understand how the international student feels in this environment and how they cope with it in an effort to instigate change as a result of the findings. Focus groups were used as a scoping tool to identify the key themes which were then developed into a questionnaire for distribution among the wider student body. The key findings indicate that reputation of Swiss hospitality education is influential in the decision making of the student. Word of mouth through previous students is a key way for the students to find out the information they believe they need. The findings revealed that the student views both the Swiss and academic culture of the institution as one and the same. The issue of culture shock is difficult to plot as there was such a mix of feelings identified when the decision to come to Switzerland is made and when the student arrives. The friendships that are generated have evolved since the creation of the Bochner et al (1977) Model and Schartner (2015) identified a newer group which could be added to this model i.e. friends back home as a way to help with psychological adjustment. The key conclusions drawn from the research indicate that the students use word-of-mouth to a great extent in preparation for their study abroad however, the information received is informal in nature. Those that used more sources of information felt they arrived more prepared. Friends were referred to throughout the study for many reasons however, the addition of the 4th group of friends i.e. friends back home, were used as a form of escape to cope with the challenges experienced (whether national or academic culture) due to both cultures being viewed as one and the same. Implications of this relate to how information is provided to the potential student Dissemination of the findings to those that prepare the students for their venture e.g. agents and those that have to help the student adjust upon their arrival e.g. institution members so that the student can adapt more quickly in the 18 weeks that they have to feel comfortable in their new environment.

Previous issue date: 2006-07-05 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This work aims at rethinking the therapeutic relationship from the approximations and resonance with the concept of friendship in the works of Foucault, Deleuze, Nietzsche, Derrida, Arendt, Montaigne and Blanchot.
The possible neighborhood between friendship and psychotherapy could be evident not only in the dialogues with philosophy but also in the construction of knowledge and practices inspired in experimentation made by Ferenczi and his mutual analysis technique, in the exercise of the clinic of the Therapeutic Accompaniment , in a group clinic, in our experience as a therapist and supervisor of students training on the public mental health system, in our commitment to affirming a clinics political dimension.
In this theoretical and practical work we tried to produce shock on the basis of the psychotherapy as it is institutionalized, facing the problematic question/taboo of a neighborhood between friendship relationships and therapeutic relationships.
From this problem, it was possible to give consistency to the therapeutic potency of unlimited proximity, as it is present in the texts of Montaigne and his friendship with La Boetie and in the mutuality on the relationship between therapist and patient lived by Ferenczi. On the other hand, we can also state the therapeutic potency of the distance lived as a clash and the fundamental condition of the relationship among friends, as Zaratustra tells us when referring to the enemy as the best friend or on the clash lived between the therapeutic accompanier and his patient when a necessary violence is required. The disruptive potency, and, for the same reason therapeutic of the distance, is on affirming and accepting the alterity as an strategy to break the paralyzing crystallization that capture the subjectivity / Este trabalho tem como objetivo repensar a relação terapêutica a partir de aproximações e ressonâncias com o conceito de amizade e sua importância nas obras de Foucault, Deleuze, Nietzsche, Derrida, Arendt, Montaigne e Blanchot.

Amizade e memória múltipla: Glosa, de Juan José Saer / Friendship and multiple memory: Glosa by Juan José SaerRaulino, Renata Cristina Pereira 01 December 2017 (has links)
In Glosa (1986), a novel by Argentine writer Juan José Saer (1937-2005), the privileged relationship between the characters is the friendship. The (re) construction of this bond happens in an unique way throughout the piece. This affection influences on the perspective of a group of friends who try to reconstitute the moments of a celebration - a barbecue in which a birthday is celebrated - according to the version of the main characters who were not present until the memories of the participants of the event. However, the perceptions of the party are not enough to build a reliable story of what really happened. On the other hand, the points of view about the same party do not complement each other, nor they are fact-checked, but they overlap and contradict each other. So the network of friends who meet to talk and discuss is the basic background in which stories are built. That said, we analyze the possibilities and limits of the narration of these shared and, at the same time, multiple memories as a contribution to the creation and maintenance of the characters friendship in the novel, even when friends are spread out mainly because of the last Argentine military dictatorship.

The features behind relationship satisfaction in friendship and romantic relationshipsTherése, Näslund, Reinholdsson, Sophia January 2016 (has links)
Relationship satisfaction is positively related to life satisfaction and subjective well-being. The main aim of this thesis was to investigate what features that may explain satisfaction and dissatisfaction in friendship versus romantic relationships, and to compare the results. This study also aimed to examine the association between perceived loneliness and the degree of satisfaction in friendship versus romantic relationships. A questionnaire was distributed to a group of 93 university students between the ages of 18 to 41 years. Through thematic analysis it was found that balance, communication, closeness, support, trust, understanding, safety and conflict management were satisfying features in both types of relationships. Lacks of these features were found to be dissatisfying. Other dissatisfying features in romantic relationships were worry, lack of time and stress and in friendship relationships feelings of alienation and superficial relationships were dissatisfying features. Statistical analyses showed a negative association between friendship satisfaction and perceived loneliness. A tendency to a similar association with romantic relationship satisfaction emerged. Yet, there were also indications of the reverse in regard to romantic relationship satisfaction. Moreover, the possibility that friendship relationships might be more important than romantic relationships for university students in order for them not to feel lonely was discussed.
