Uhlin, Rebecka January 2021 (has links)
This thesis studies the representation of the character Vilde in the Norwegian teenage TV series Skam, in her performance of femininity. The thesis considers her character primarily from the perspective of socioeconomic class. The main theoretical framework of the analysis is structured around the idea of respectability. Various theories of performativity, femininity, and shame are also discussed. A selection of clips from the series is studied with a hermeneutic reading, whilst clips from another selection work as examples to make a more nuanced analysis of Vilde’s character. The research method is primarily built around theories of representation and around semiotics. The thesis argues that the character Vilde – regarding her class position – is searching for respectability. By repeating and staging she is manifesting femininity in a performative way. It is a process complicated by her socioeconomic exposure, with the result that her making of femininity is ambivalent. Secondly, the thesis shows that heterosexuality is fundamental in the process of gaining respectability, yet does not guarantee it. Lastly, the thesis shows that the series Skam is challenging existing norms and power relations through Vilde and her peers – by making these norms and power relations visible, and then subverting them in the plot or imagery.

Det sticker i folk ögon när kvinnor har makt : En multimodal kritisk diskursanalys om gestaltningen i reality-programmet Svenska Powerkvinnor / It disturb people when women have power : A multimodal critical discourse analysis of the design of the reality show Swedish Powerwomen

Söderberg, Maja, Persson, Elin January 2022 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to increase the understanding of how women are portrayed in reality television based on gender, power and gender stereotypes via a multimodal critical discourse analysis. The reality program that this study will analyse is Svenska Powerkvinnor. It is a reality show about five successful entrepreneurs in their everyday and professional lives. The theoretical framework that this study focuses on is gender, gender stereotypes and power. The method multimodal critical discourse analysis with the analysis tools lexical choices, visual semiotic choices and bodily expressions contributes to the analysis. In addition to the analysis tools, denotation and connotation are used, which are two useful concepts in a visual analysis. The results of the analysis helped us to identify gender stereotypes, gender and power structures in the program. The women in the program both followed and broke the gender structures and displayed power by showing both feminine and masculine gender stereotypes. They both followed and broke with the gender structures and displayed power in several different ways. This study contributes to an increased understanding that women's position within media is still at a disadvantage compared to men. The study also shows that positive development is taking place and that the Svenska Powerkvinnor contributes by portraying women in power.

Aktiv diskriminering och rollkonflikt bland män inom förskolan / Active Discrimination and Role Conflict Among Men in Early Childhood Education

Årman, Erik January 2020 (has links)

Queera aliens och intergalaktiskdiaspora : Transhumanismens hegemoni i The Sims 4

Safari, Edwin January 2021 (has links)
This study examines how queerness can be dislocated in play and the portrayal of digital entities in the computer game The Sims 4. More specifically, in what way its virtually simulated anthropocentric orientations become disoriented through alien deviation. The study aims to identify connections between the game’s transhuman hegemony, alien lives, and queer experiences. Through queer phenomenology, along with performativity theory, the study concludes that aliens become queer objects in the game world by failing to live up to human ideals, which can serve as a symbolic reference to deviations from dominant orientations, norms, and hegemonies in real life.

‘WE ARE AT WAR!" : THE ROLE OF EMMANUEL MACRON’S SPEECHES IN BUILDING A MEANING FOR “COVID-19”

Barrié, Lison January 2021 (has links)
Through discourse analysis, this thesis explores the way in which speeches delivered by the French President, Emmanuel Macron, during the health crisis of COVID-19 are creating a meaning for the floating signifier “COVID-19”. The methodological approach highlights how the discourse used is intrinsically gendered, both grammatically and conceptually, during the construction of meaning. The focus of this analysis is the extended metaphor of war and its relationship to the concept of Nation in the way they build a field of discursivity for “COVID-19”. These concepts are ambiguous when it comes to gender, questioning the way discourse and grammar build meaning.

Undoing Gender Interpellations in Role-Playing Videogame Spaces : The case of Cyberpunk 2077 as a case of resistance from a feminist post-constructionist perspective

Militsi, Anna January 2021 (has links)
This Thesis is pertinent to the negotiations of sex, gender, and sexuality in the video game Cyberpunk 2077 and the narratives the gamer traverses while on the game, and aimed to add to the literature regarding the entanglements of gender and technology within the virtual world of the video games. This Thesis focused on investigating the potential of technocultural assemblages to undo gender (and racial) interpellations, and more specifically in regard to the assemblages that are formed between (post)human and avatar in first-person video games that allow the user to create their character with a great deal of freedom. In other words, this study deploying the method of Autoethnography set out to research the materialities and normativities in (post)human-technology relations and the potential of these relations to operate as a means of resistance.

When the patriarchy clears snow : A study of feminist snow removal based on the new material feminist theory

Karlén, Johanna January 2022 (has links)
The purpose is to map the concept and phenomenon of feminist snow removal in Sweden and analyze it on the basis of new material feminism. The theoretical review is based on the new material feminism and the theory is operationalized into the factors: thingpower/agency, the distinction between non-human/nature and human/culture, and least rooms built from the standard body. The selected method is feminist discursive work which is based on discursive space in media, discourses/collective performances, and identity/positioning. The result consists of the mapping of feminist snow removal and the space that the concept gets in media. To study collective performances towns with feminist snow removal are compared with towns with traditional snow removal. Identity/positioning is applied by examining the positions of towns and political parties on the issue of feminist snow removal. The feminist snow removal is set to be about clearing snow of bicyclesand footpaths and public transport before car roads. Schools and preschools are given priority. Female-dominated workplaces are prioritized to the same extent as male-dominated workplaces. The conclusion is that when the result is applied from a new material feminist perspective can snow removal is interpreted to have a shift in the agency from snow and nature to human and structures. The feminist snow removal can from different reasoning be attributed to either a mixture of nature and culture or merely one of these distinctions. Traditional snow removal starts from the male body and can be interpreted as discriminatory.

Al-Malki Gunnarsson, Nadja January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this essay is to examine how racialized workers are represented in the magazine Kommunalarbetaren which is a part of the Swedish trade union Kommunal. The covers from twenty issues of this magazine published in 2017 were analyzed to study if the representation of these workers was affected by discourses of white normativity. The study is based on theories of intersectionality by Kimberlé Crenshaw and representations and stereotypification by Stuart Hall. My result shows how work is exposed as something white people do and with dichotomies where one is represented as either white, Swedish worker or as a refugee, the latter having vague subject position and as someone who recently arrived in Sweden. The presence, participation and labour of people of color seem to be missing and be a blind spot for the magazine.

Disease knows no borders : an online ethnographic case study during the Covid-19 pandemic

Klinga, Maja January 2020 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to analyze the reactions and expressions towards the governmental regulations amongst  Swedes in Spain during the Covid-19 pandemic. This is a qualitative online ethnographic case study where a online forum is analysed through a content analysis. The data has been understood through intersectionality theory, biopolitics as outlined by Michel Foucault and Sara Ahmed’s work on the cultural politics of emotions. The analysis identified various themes and as well as emotions circulating around these. Swedes in Spain are expressing their frustration and critique towards illogical and counterproductive regulations as well as showing irritation directed to their freedom of movement being taken away. Frustration and uncertainty are circulating in the discussions. Sociocultural categories such as class, nationality, gender and age as well as how they intensifie each other appear. The Covid-19 pandemic is affecting people in various ways, and the intersectional lens makes it possible to analyse how people depending on their privileges (or lack of) are able to cope with the regulations. This research shows on the importance of an feminist intersectional lens when evaluating the effects of the regulations during the Covid-19 pandemic in each country.

Tänker alla förskollärare likadant om genus? : En kvalitativ studie om förskollärarnas synsätt kring genus på förskolan / Do all preschool teachers think alike about gender? : A qualitative study on preschool teachers´ perspectives on gender in preschool

Daag-Gustafsson, Wilma, Longueville, Moalie January 2023 (has links)
