Vidas Secas, de Graciliano Ramos é considerada uma obra prima da ficção regional da Literatura Brasileira da Geração de 30. O romance é um documento sobre a vida miserável de uma família de retirantes nordestinos, que sofrem as consequências da seca no sertão. O estudo do vocabulário que permeia a trajetória dessa família gerou as bases para elaboração deste trabalho que tem como objetivo principal a formação de um glossário de termos regionais nordestinos presentes na obra em estudo, a fim de contribuir com um dicionário da ficção do referido autor. Para isso, faz-se necessário discorrer sobre a linguagem literária no Brasil a partir do Romantismo até o Modernismo. The novel is a document about the miserable life of a family of northeasterner migrants, who suffer the consequences of drought in backlands. The study of vocabulary that permeates the trajectory of this family originated the bases for the preparation of this work, which has as its main objective the training of a glossary of regional terms present in the work focused in this study, in order to contribute with a dictionary of the referred authors fictional and autobiographical works. For this reason it is necessary to discuss the literary language in Brazil from Romanticism to Modernism and expose the evolutionary curve of Brazilian regionalist tradition in fiction of Romanticism to Modernism, emphasizing authors and works that participate in the process of creation and evolution of the genre in focus

A presente Dissertação tem o objetivo de estudar os processos de formação de termos designativos dos movimentos da capoeira, bem como a relação metafórica que se estabelece entre eles. Para estabelecer essa relação, organizamos o Glossário Terminológico Ilustrado de Movimentos e Golpes da Capoeira, um trabalho descritivo, seguindo a perspectiva teórica da ciência terminológica. A terminologia da capoeira é muito complexa, pois ainda não foi sistematizada claramente. Há algumas tentativas de sistematização realizadas pela Federação Internacional de Capoeira, cujos termos, apesar de formarem uma nomenclatura, ainda estão em processo de discussão. Dessa forma, selecionamos alguns livros sobre capoeira, que constituem parte do nosso corpus, e concentramo-nos nos termos mais comuns. O Glossário é apresentado em ordem alfabética e contém ilustrações como mais uma forma de auxiliar os usuários a entender os movimentos. Este trabalho é, então, direcionado a praticantes de capoeira e a pesquisadores interessados no assunto. Além disso, é voltado também para profissionais da área de estudos léxicos, notadamente terminólogos, visto que pretende ser uma contribuição aos estudos terminológicos e terminográficos. / The present Dissertation aims at studying the processes of formation of the terms that name the movements of capoeira and the metaphorical relationship established between them. In order to establish this relationship, we organized the Glossário Terminológico Ilustrado de Movimentos e Golpes da Capoeira, a descriptive work, following the theoretical perspective of the terminology science. The terminology of capoeira is very complex, because it has not being clearly systematized. There are some attempts to do so by the Federação Internacional de Capoeira, whose terms, in spite of forming a nomenclature, are still being discussed. Provided that, we selected some books about capoeira, which constitute part of our corpus, and focused on the most common terms. The Glossary is presented in alphabetical order and contains illustrations as an extra means to help users understand the movements. This work, then, is addressed to capoeira players and to researches interested in the subject. Besides, it is also addressed to lexical studies professionals, mainly terminologists, since this work intends to be a contribution to the terminological and terminographic studies.

Ao tentar traduzir um texto específico sobre o tema futebol da língua espanhola para o português brasileiro ou vice-versa, o tradutor se depara com uma infinidade de termos típicos dessa área de especialidade que não constam em muitos dos atuais dicionários e glossários, ou constam de forma limitada, sem abranger muitas das situações reais de uso. Neste trabalho, construímos um glossário bilíngue e bidirecional que contempla os termos futebolísticos mais frequentes no par linguístico espanhol-português, usados rotineiramente na comunicação escrita. Partimos da suposição que a Linguística de Corpus forneceria os meios necessários para tal empreitada. A Linguística de Corpus permite estudar uma língua ou variedade linguística por computador, por meio de evidências empíricas encontradas em um corpus, entendido como um conjunto de dados linguísticos textuais em formato eletrônico e coletado de forma criteriosa. Esta dissertação está dividida em cinco partes. Como introdução, falamos de alguns aspectos históricos das línguas portuguesa e espanhola, da influência do futebol em nossa sociedade, de problemas encontrados em dicionários e glossários, e do potencial das notícias futebolísticas da Internet como referência para a construção do glossário que propomos. Na segunda parte, comentamos a Linguística de Corpus como abordagem e método de investigação, os tipos de corpora e a composição de nosso corpus de estudo, a questão da equivalência na tradução e a forma como selecionamos os termos e seus equivalentes tradutórios, tendo como base a comparação de notícias futebolísticas do Brasil, da Espanha e da Argentina, além da extração e observação de palavras-chave, com a ajuda de ferramentas eletrônicas específicas. Na terceira parte, discutimos as questões terminológicas que envolvem este estudo, especialmente as decisões tomadas para a macro e microestrutura de nosso glossário. Na quarta parte, demonstramos como o glossário pode ser apresentado ao consulente e oferecemos uma amostra de verbetes. Na quinta e última parte, fazemos as considerações finais, em que concluímos que a Linguística de Corpus, como abordagem e metodologia, confirmou-se eficiente para a construção do glossário bilíngue, pois a exploração de corpora especializados permitiu identificar os principais termos futebolísticos e seus equivalentes tradutórios usados na comunicação escrita do jornalismo brasileiro, espanhol e argentino, resultando em uma obra de referência bilíngue específica do futebol com quase quatro mil verbetes; todos com exemplos reais de uso / When trying to translate a specific text on football from Spanish into Brazilian Portuguese or vice versa, the translator is faced with a myriad of footbal-specific terms which are not found in most dictionaries or glossaries, or which are found in a limited way, leaving out many real use situations. In the course of this study, a bilingual and bi-directional glossary was built with the most commonly used football terms in written communication in the Spanish-Portuguese language pair, . My initial assumption was that Corpus Linguistics would provide the necessary means for such a task. Corpus Linguistics enables one to study a language or a language variety using a computer, retrieving empirical evidence found in a corpus, which is defined as a set of texts, compiled according to predefined criteria, in electronic format. This dissertation is divided into five parts. In the introduction, some historical aspects of Portuguese and Spanish are discussed, as well as the influence of football in our society, the problems found in dictionaries and glossaries, and the potential of football news retrieved from the Internet as a basis for building the glossary proposed. In the second part, I argue that Corpus Linguistics is an approach and a method of research, and present the different types of corpora. Then, the question of equivalence in translation is briefly addressed, the content of our corpus of study is explained, as well as the steps adopted to identify the terms and their translation equivalents, through the comparison of football news from Brazil, Spain and Argentina, and by means of the extraction and observation of keywords, with the aid of specific electronic tools. In the third part, I discuss the terminology issues implicated in this study, especially with reference to the decisions taken for the macro- and microstructure of the glossary. In the fourth part, I propose a form of presenting the glossary to the user and provide a sample of entries. In the fifth and last part, I make the final considerations, in which I conclude that Corpus Linguistics, as an approach and a methodology, proved to be effective for the construction of the targeted bilingual glossary, since exploring the specialized corpora made it possible to properly identify the main football terms used in written communication in Brazilian, Spanish and Argentine journalism and their translation equivalents. The result is a bilingual work of reference in the field of football, which contains nearly four thousand entries, all of them with authentic examples of usage.

Mental practice is a strategy that can be used to acquire the necessary skills for piano and other music performance. This type of practice strategy involves the use of imagery as opposed to the motor skills used in physical practice. In a preliminary review of piano pedagogy material and recent scientific literature, the benefits of mental practice were established. However, this review also revealed a lack of clarity in the use of terminology which sometimes interfered with readability. In order to better understand this problem of terminology, 33 current studies on mental practice in music performance were collected and examined for both the quantity and quality of term usage. Terms were identified and recorded using existing terminology and classification methods. Terminological records were created for each term appearing more than twice in the literature. In total, 83 records were created. Issues related to frequency of use (repetition), use of multiple terms (synonymy), lack of term definitions, and the need for clarity in term usage (semantic vagueness and ambiguity) were then analyzed using these records. This term analysis process resulted in the creation of a glossary and taxonomy. The glossary of 21 terms and corresponding hierarchical taxonomy (tree diagram) are proposed as an aid to help clarify the terminology of mental practice in music performance. Given the value of mental practice in learning to play music it is important to develop and maintain terminology that will facilitate both the understanding of existing literature and the design of future studies.

In recent years, advances in computer technology have allowed increasingly rich multimedia content to be incorporated into educational materials in many fields, including the field of language teaching. Yet as visually appealing as such products may be, we must ask whether multimedia-enriched materials actually improve learning in a measurable way. If so, individual curriculum makers can then decide whether the benefits of the multimedia materials justify the cost of purchasing and implementing them. This study attempted to examine the effects of multimedia glossary aids on incidental vocabulary acquisition rates of L2 learners of Japanese. Subjects included 35 third- and fourth-year students of Japanese at a large private university in the United States, who read a Japanese short story using an online web application that included a multimedia-enriched glossary. A total of 27 keywords were selected from the text for inclusion in the glossary. A third were annotated with English text definitions only; another third had an English text definition plus a picture illustration; the final third had an English text definition plus a video illustration. An unannounced post-test measured vocabulary gains. A logistic mixed models regression was performed to test for differences in acquisition rate across the annotation types. Also, due to the unique dual nature of Japanese orthography, which includes both the phonemic kana and so-called ideographic kanji characters, the regression also examined interaction between orthographic representation of the keyword and annotation type on acquisition rate. A significant result (p<0.0001) was found for annotation type as a main effect, with video-annotated words showing the highest acquisition rates. Additionally, a significant interaction (p=0.0139) was observed between orthography and annotation type, indicating that multimedia glossary annotations may have affected the acquisition of phonemic kana representations of keywords differently than they affected ideographic kanji representations.

Российские военные вузы, отвечая требованиям современного высшего образования, активно интегрируются в мировое образовательное сообщество. Одним из важных направлений военно-технического сотрудничества России с зарубежными странами является профессиональная подготовка иностранных военнослужащих в российских военных вузах. В последние годы в ходе реформирования военного образования доля иностранных курсантов в российских военных вузах значительно возросла. Этому способствует и тот факт, что российское военное образование является престижным в ряде стран-союзников. Соответственно, возрастает ответственность российского образования за качество образовательных услуг, оказываемых иностранным гражданам, обучающимся в военных вузах. В работе рассматривается проблема построения коммуникаций иностранными курсантами в ходе обучения в российских вузах на краткосрочных программах повышения квалификации и профессиональной переподготовки. На примере военнослужащих Вьетнама введено понятие коммуникаций и способы их формирования в процессе обучения; выделены особенности этнического сознания представителей европейских и азиатских культур; определены особенности профессиональной направленности курсантов военного вуза; учтены особенности изменения приоритетов в изучении вьетнамскими учащимися русского зыка, выделены характеристики и виды перевода, которые используется в образовательном процессе иностранных курсантов переводчиком; определены особенности составления глоссариев для курсантов из азиатских стран, обучающихся в России. Результат работы представлен в виде трехъязычного переводного глоссария. Актуальность исследования обусловлена необходимостью упрощения процесса построения коммуникаций между преподавателем и «студентом-иностранцем»; отсутствием структуризации таких материалов, требующих перевода в рамках работы с учебной группой, и трехъязычных глоссариев на русском, английском и вьетнамском языках по конкретному направлению обучения. Теоретическая значимость исследования заключается в проведенном исследовании терминологии и разработке глоссария, с описанием последовательного алгоритма работы над его составлением. / Russian military universities, meeting the requirements of modern higher education, are actively integrating into the world educational community. One of the important areas of military-technical cooperation between Russia and foreign countries is the professional training of foreign servicemen in Russian military universities. In recent years, in the course of reforming military education, the proportion of foreign cadets in Russian military universities has increased significantly. This is facilitated by the fact that Russian military education is prestigious in a number of allied countries. Accordingly, the responsibility of Russian education for the quality of educational services provided to foreign citizens studying in military universities is growing. The paper deals with the problem of building communications by foreign cadets while training in Russian universities on short-term programs for advanced training and professional retraining. On the example of Vietnamese military personnel, the concept of communications and methods of their formation in the learning process are introduced; the features of the ethnic consciousness of representatives of European and Asian cultures are highlighted; the features of the professional orientation of cadets of a military university are determined; the features of changing priorities in the study of the Russian language by Vietnamese students are taken into account, the characteristics and types of translation that are used in the educational process of foreign cadets by an interpreter are highlighted; the features of compiling glossaries for cadets from Asian countries studying in Russia are determined. The result of the work is presented in the form of a trilingual translated glossary. The relevance of the study is due to the need to simplify the process of building communications between a teacher and a “foreign student”; the lack of structuring of such materials that require translation as part of the work with the study group, and trilingual glossaries in Russian, English and Vietnamese for a specific area of study. The theoretical significance of the study lies in the study of terminology and the development of a glossary, with a description of a consistent algorithm for working on its compilation.

Geralmente considerados material de segunda classe, os chamados recortes de jornal têm sido frequentemente marginalizados no plano do tratamento documental. Entretanto, sua presença nos arquivos, não raro formando conjuntos volumosos, é inegável e impõe desafios e dilemas aos arquivistas e profissionais que se dedicam a organizá-los e descrevê-los. Neste sentido, um dos problemas mais sensíveis tem sido o reconhecimento das espécies e tipos documentais resultantes da atividade jornalística, geralmente denominadas, nos instrumentos de pesquisa, de forma genérica e inadequada. Alinhando conceitos e noções da arquivística, da diplomática, das ciências da comunicação e da linguagem, procuramos identificar as espécies documentais usualmente encontradas sob a forma de recortes nos arquivos, definindo-as em glossário. Procuramos, ainda, reconhecer a condição arquivística e o caráter instrumental dos recortes de jornal, examinando, a partir de exemplos observados em arquivos pessoais, a lógica de sua acumulação como reflexo de uma prática social cujas origens remetem a uma tradição muito mais antiga do que se supõe. / Usually considered as second-class material, the so-called newspaper clippings have been marginalized at the level of archival processing. However, their existence in the archives is unquestionable and challenges archivists and other professionals who organize and describe them. In this sense, one of the most sensitive problems has been the identification of the forms resulting from journalistic processes, usually named in generic and inadequate ways in archival finding aids. By aligning concepts and notions from the fields of Archival Science, Diplomatics, Communication, and Language, this study aims to detect the forms usually named generically as clippings and to define them in a glossary. It also seeks to reaffirm the archival condition and the instrumental character of newspaper clippings, considering the accumulation of such material as the reflection of a social practice rooted in an ancient tradition.

Este trabalho de dissertação tem como objetivo central a criação de um glossário bilíngue (português-inglês) de termos institucionais da Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). Sua construção é de extrema importância para a tradução dos materiais institucionais que apresentam a universidade e permite que ela se comunique com o mundo globalizado. Ressalta-se, ainda, o valor do trabalho para a construção da identidade universitária e de sua memória institucional, pois apresenta os termos correspondentes aos utilizados pela UERJ para denominar suas estruturas e cargos, compreendendo sua Administração Central e Unidades Acadêmicas e Administrativas, Para chegar ao glossário, dividimos nosso trabalho em capítulos. O primeiro trata do processo de globalização e seu impacto na universidade: a internacionalização. Utilizamos como exemplo do processo a internacionalização da UERJ não esquecendo de analisar a importância do uso da língua inglesa como língua franca e, consequentemente a relevância da tradução nesse contexto. No segundo capítulo, resumimos as teorias terminológicas, enfatizando a Teoria Comunicativa da Terminologia, de Maria Tereza Cabré e as características do bom glossário apontadas por Anna Julia Perrotti-Garcia, privilegiando o termo e seu contexto real de uso como ponto de partida. No terceiro capítulo, revelamos a macroestrura e a microestrutura do glossário, apresentado logo em seguida. O glossário reúne, então, cerca de setenta termos em língua portuguesa, com exemplos acompanhados dos termos em língua inglesa, com seus exemplos de uso real. Nas considerações finais, comentam-se os resultados da pesquisa, as adaptações necessárias e a contribuição do trabalho para a universidade e para a tradução e a terminologia. É um trabalho que pretende tratar da terminologia a serviço da tradução de textos institucionais, produzindo uma ferramenta importante para tal tarefa / This present work aims at building a bilingual glossary (Portuguese-English) of the institutional terms of the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). This work is extremely important to the translation of institutional materials which present the university and allows it to communicate with a globalized world. We must add that this work should contribute to the building of the university identity and its institutional memory, as far as it presents the terms the university uses, on an everyday basis, to nominate its structures and positions, bringing together its central administration as well as administrative and academic units. In order to achieve the purpose of this work, that is, the glossary, we divided the dissertation in chapters. The first one deals with the process of globalization and it is impact on the university: internationalization. We refer to the internationalization process, using as an example the process at UERJ, not leaving behind the importance of the use of the English language as a lingua franca and, therefore, the relevance of translation in this context. In the second one, we sum up the terminology theories, emphasizing the Communicative Theory, by Maria Tereza Cabré and the characteristics of a good glossary pointed by Anna Julia Perrotti-Garcia, using the term and its real context of use as a starting point. The second chapter reveals the macro and microstructure of the glossary, presented afterwards. The glossary contains, then, about seventy terms in Portuguese with examples, followed by the terms in English, also followed by their real use examples. For final considerations, we discuss the results of the research, the necessary adaptations as well as the contribution of the work to the university, to translation and to terminology. It was a work worried about dealing with terminology serving the translation of institutional texts, when it produces such an important tool to that task
