"Det handlar liksom om hur allt hänger ihop i en enda länk" : En studie om hur tre historielärare i årskurs 4 och 5 använder historiska narrativ i syfte att bidra till elevernas historiemedvetande

Robazza Leijonhielm, Agnès January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to see how three history teachers in year 4 and 5 uses historical narratives in order to bring their students historical consciousness. In order to investigate this, two questions were formulated: To what extent and how do history teachers in three middle school classes use Jörn Rüsen’s principals by historical narration bring historical consciousness to their pupils?  How do teachers define Historical consciousness? These questions are answered by observing six history lessons in three different schools in different parts of Stockholm and interviewing the teachers afterwards. The outcome of these observations and interviews has been analysed using the three principals for historical consciousness by historical narration Memory, Continuity and Function and the theories of historical consciousness by Jörn Rüsen. This theory has then been further developed to better suit the study and illustrate further results. The conclution of this study shows that the teachers in these three classes have three different definitions of the term Historical consciousness and that they only bring historical consciousness by historical narration to their pupils a few times.

Historical Consciousness, Historical Media, and History Education / Historiemedvetande, historiska medier och historieundervisning

Thorp, Robert January 2014 (has links)
This thesis by publication contains an introductory summary chapter and three papers. The first paper presents a study of how the concept of historical consciousness has been defined, applied, and justified in Swedish history didactical research. It finds that there is consensus regarding the definition of what a historical consciousness is, but that there is variation in how the concept is applied. It is suggested that this variation makes historical consciousness a complex and vague concept.      The second paper uses the results presented in the first paper as a point of departure and from thence argues for a broadened understanding of the concept of historical consciousness that incorporates its definition, application, development, and significance. The study includes research about historical consciousness primarily from Sweden, the UK, the USA and Canada. The paper presents a typology of historical consciousness and argues that level of contextualisation is what distinguishes different types of historical consciousnesses and that an ability to contextualise is also what makes historical consciousness an important concept for identity constitution and morality.      The third paper proposes a methodological framework of historical consciousness based on the theory of historical consciosusness presented in the second paper. It presents arguments for why the framework of historical consciousness proposed can be useful for the analysis of historical media and it discusses how aspects of the framework can be applied in analysis. It then presents a textbook analysis that has been performed according to the stipulated framework and discusses its results regarding how textbooks can be used to analyse historical consciousness and its development. / Forskarskolan Historiska Medier (ForHiM)

Způsoby vzniku a reprodukce historického vědomí na příkladu spolku Radecký Praha / The creation and reproduction of historical consciousness on the example of the association Radecký Praha

Petrnoušková, Anna January 2016 (has links)
The master thesis "The creation and reproduction of historical consciousness on the example of the association Radecký Praha" deals with the historical consciousness, its creation and reproduction. The theoretical part defines not only historical consciousness but also pays attention to the related issues, such as collective memory, historical memory, sites of memory, or national identity, due to the fact that the boundaries between collective memory and historical consciousness are often at least unclear. Theoretical part is primarily based on the works of Maurice Halbwachs, Jan Assmann, Miroslav Hroch and Pierre Nora. The empirical part of this study concludes the research of the association Radetzky Prague, which seeks to return the monument of Marshal Radetzky on the Malostranské náměstí. The research tries to describe and understand the ways of creation and reproduction of historical consciousness of its members throughout the analysis of qualitative interviews. Mentioned authors already provide a certain methodological background research. Conclusion contains a summary and a comparison of research results with theses of authors that are dealing with similar themes. This work is not a purely historical or sociological one; it is trying to stay somewhere between historical and sociological...

Mötet med Sveriges historia och kultur : Nyanlända afghanska elevers tankar och upplevelser i mötet med historia och kulturarv i Sverige / Encountering history and culture of Sweden : The experiences of newly arrived Afghans pupils in encountering history and cultural heritage in Sweden

Mobaraki, Mehrdad January 2020 (has links)
This study has a multicultural and intercultural orientation. The aim of the study is to investigate the thoughts and experiences of newly arrived Afghan pupils in encountering history and cultural heritage in Sweden. The study is therefore based on a student ́s perspective. Interviews used as a method that are of a qualitative nature. It is a type of group interview, called focus interviews. The method allows the participants ́ collective and shared thoughts, feelings and experiences to be expressed. The material of the essay consists of recorded interviews with two student groups, primary school students and high school students. The theoretical concepts that used are historical consciousness, use of history and historical culture. The result shows that it is not easy for youths to live according to the norms and values of the new society. Learning about the country ́s history and culture becomes possible by knowing the language. In the light of their experiences from their homeland they appreciate diversity and freedom of religion. For these young people history is an important and exciting subject, but it becomes more interesting if it is about their original country and history. During the study it became obvious that the pupils belong to the folk group of hazara. The older generation had a crucial role in their historical culture to tell their children about a unique history: discrimination, persecution and genocide of hazara people. The collective story is reinforced and communicated through the new generation. The history of the genocide that exists in the world of youths is very significant for the hazara people ́s identity and community.

When the past knocks on the door : A qualitative interview study on how teachers use and define the concept of history consciousness in middle School

Lindström, Beatrice January 2022 (has links)
The concept of historical consciousness is found in the introductory aim text for the subject history in middle school. The concept is described as intertwined in the pupil's understanding of how the past interacts with the present and should give the pupil a perspective on the future. Historical consciousness is a key concept in history didactics and has a role in the purpose of the subject.  Varying names for the concept of historical consciousness according to previous research and the search for how teaching should be planned to promote the development of pupil's historical consciousness give rise to the purpose of the present study. To achieve the purpose of the study, where questions intend to answer how active teachers interpret and use the concept of historical consciousness in middle school, semi-structured qualitative interviews with five teachers were used. The results were analysed based on selected themes that are discussed in relation to previous research and the socio-cultural perspective in the results discussion. The results of the study show that there are working methods that benefit pupil´s consciousness of history and that there are challenges in working with the concept. The working methods that the teachers describe are to work with the local area, elements that contain discussions and to use digital tools. Challenges are described as being when pupil´s cannot connect their own lives to Swedish history and that teaching materials do not always satisfy the opportunity to develop historical consciousness.

Člověk v prostoru, prostor v člověku. Procházka městem jako manifestace prostorovo-pobytového celku, chápaného za pomoci principu dějinného vědomí / Human in Urban Space, Urban Space in Human

Černá, Hana January 2013 (has links)
This Thesis will be focused on relationship of human and space, formed by moment of their encounter. The main aim of work is to express relation between human and space in existential dimension of their mutual formation. This process is continuous and it is embodied in hermeneutical spiral. Result of this Work is the attempt to erase subject-object therminology in the context of relationship of human and space by applying principle of historical consciousness. Concept of lived space is manifested on example of Prague city walk, in which there are human and space mutually formed as a continuously changing complex, not the separate units. Key words human, hermeneutic circle, objectivism, move, principle of historical consciousness, walk, space, subjectivism, memory, relationship

Mujacic, Asmir, Palmkvist, Tim January 2019 (has links)
This student thesis seeks answers on history teachers´ view on the purpose of their subject, how their view on the purpose affects their teaching and how all of this affects the possibilities given to the students who study the past. The Swedish teaching plan and the curriculum of the subject history are loaded with tension. Based on this tension Swedish students attending secondary school are, on one hand supposed to affirm a certain way of understanding the past while on the other hand be educated in critical and independent thinking. In other words, the subject of history could either confirm a certain view of the past or critically view it. It is also worth pointing out that one does not cancel the other out. History teaching can contain both perspectives. While it would be interesting to apply our main questions on the whole course of the subject of history the main focus of this thesis lies within the theme of genocide. Based on interviews with Swedish history teachers this thesis explores what they see as the purpose of their subject and in particular the purpose in the theme of genocide teaching. What approach does teachers have in their teaching and how does this affect the possibilities given to the students? The result shows that history teachers´ main focus lies in more concrete knowledge, thereby excluding the previous statement about critical thinking. History teachers are also dissatisfied with the time given to the subject of history in upper secondary school. Although the teachers mainly focus on confirming certain views of the past there are teachers who, in some cases, lean towards a teaching method with critical thinking as the focal point. The respondents also vary in the way they give students possibilities to meet the past. These possibilities are often predetermined by the teachers and students’ possibilities to express critical thinking is therefore reduced and limited. While this student thesis is based around the theme of genocide teaching, the result does not necessarily suggest that the students never get the opportunity to express free critical thinking. Therefore, the result shows that the purpose of the subject of history, as presented by the interviewees, is multilayered and seldom based around only one given perspective.

To convey what was never allowed to happen : Five teachers' reflections on the genocide in Srebrenica.

Pasanbegovic, Dennis January 2023 (has links)
The genocide in Srebrenica is described as "UN's darkest hour" and is the largest genocide in modern time after the Holocaust. 2020 marks the 25th year anniversary since the genocide took place in Srebrenica.  The purpose of this study is to answer how history teachers present genocide in their teaching and how teachers discuss the genocide in Srebrenica. This study is based on a qualitative method through data collection that is obtained from interviews with five different teachers who work in Swedish schools. The study's theoretical frame of reference is based on historical awareness, use of history and non-use of history to promote understanding of teaching choices and teaching methods. This study presents that the teachers use students' emotions through discussions and movies when depicting genocide. The Holocaust is presented as the premiss of the teaching regarding genocide. The genocide in Srebrenica is only mentioned or exemplified in connection with, and in relation to, other genocides such as the Holocaust. The teachers confirm that there is a lack of time, uncertainty, and knowledge regarding the genocide in Srebrenica. The consequence of this is that a large part of the society neither relates to nor barely knows about this genocide. Europe's and the UN's biggest stain becomes hidden, and the victims do not get the attention and justice they deserve. When ignorance exists in relation to the genocide in Srebrenica, we will not be able to reach the message that is often associated with The Holocaust - Never again.

: En undersökning angående hur lärare i f-3 levandegör undervisning i historia / ” When nothing is allowed to cost, then it’s damn hard!” : A study regarding how primary school teachers enliven the teaching of history

Teroni Borg, Therése January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis was to investigate how some primary school teachers, grade F-3 make history teaching more “alive” through their choice of methods, materials, and what obstacles the teachers consider there to be when it comes of using practical and “student-oriented teaching” teaching. Thus, the purpose is also to investigate how the teachers will further the students’ knowledge and historical consciousness. The outcome of the survey was collected and carried out through qualitative interviews with five primary school teachers, one of whom works as a middle school teacher today. However, they have beforehand worked as a primary school teacher for several years and I consider their experience to be beneficial to the survey. The teachers work in different schools and counties, which means that the survey cannot be generalized on how teachers experience the use of practical teaching methods to benefits students’ historical consciousness in Sweden. However, the teachers’ thoughts about the concept of historical consciousness and enlivening education, through practical education and the students’ senses can be generalized. The surveys outcome showed that teachers suggested that an enlivening education is beneficial in teaching method for students’ knowledge. Nevertheless, not all teachers use the same approach to make the education enliven, even if they want to.

Using Film to mediate History in Teaching : How Film can Contribute to Developing students' Historical Thinking

Jonsson, Erica January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to see how historical films in history education can contribute to developing students' critical thinking about sources, historical consciousness, and various aspects of the uses of history. I showed a sequence of the film 1917 which is about the First World War, to a class of high school students who then worked on an assignment connected to the film and the purpose of the study. The material consists of 13 student responses to the assignment which contains three different questions where each question is designed to develop the theoretical approaches of source criticism, historical consciousness, and uses of history. The method is a content analysis with mainly a qualitative approach but also a quantitative approach with one coding scheme to each theoretical approach. The result of the study shows how the students’ reasons and discuss source criticism, historical consciousness, and uses of history towards the film sequence to develop their learning.
