Análise das entrevistas de quatro surdocegos adquiridos sobre a importância do guia-intérprete no processo de comunicação e mobilidade

It is focused specifically, on one hand, in situations that decrease the number of difficulties faced by them and their overcoming of the same ones; and on the other hand, situations that increase difficulties on the way of the deafblind. The sample was constituted by four deafblinds acquired, members of the Brazilian Association of the Deafblinds who already took part in programs of habilitation and rehabilitation related to communication and mobility, and the ones who make use of guide-interpreter services. Data was collected by individual interviews using a questionnaire specially elaborated for this project, organized in charts displaying this way, situations which make possible the decrease, overcoming and increase of the difficulties to each individual studied and the sample as a whole. The data analyzed showed that the guide-interpreter can overcome or decrease the deafblind s difficulties as they use different communication and mobility techniques. It was considered by the individuals researched, the necessity of this professional to have the ability and experience on the application of these techniques. However, the issues related to the deficiency on the application of such techniques by the guide-interpreter were the causes of the increase of difficulties reported by the individuals studied. It was also shown interferences coming from personal issues, pointing out to interpersonal relation issues, something not explored fully on the education of this professional. Attention to this matter could contribute satisfactorily on the performance of the guide-interpreter along with deafblinds acquired. / O presente estudo teve como objetivo analisar a opinião de surdocegos adquiridos sobre a importância do guia-intérprete no processo de comunicação e mobilidade, em situações do cotidiano. Especificamente voltou-se para: de um lado, as que propiciam a diminuição e superação de dificuldades; de outro lado as que aumentaram as dificuldades. A amostra foi constituída por quatro surdocegos adquiridos, filiados a Associação Brasileira de Surdocegos, que já participaram de programas de habilitação e reabilitação no que tange à comunicação e mobilidade e que utilizam os serviços de guia-intérprete. Os dados foram coletados a partir de entrevistas individuais, utilizando um questionário especialmente elaborado, alocados em Quadros, possibilitando a exposição das situações que propiciam diminuição, superação e aumento das dificuldades para cada sujeito de pesquisa e para a amostra como um todo. Os dados analisados mostraram que o guia-intérprete consegue superar ou diminuir as dificuldades dos surdocegos à medida que se utiliza das diferentes técnicas de comunicação e mobilidade. Foi valorizado de forma consensual pelos sujeitos pesquisados que esse profissional tenha habilidade e experiência na aplicação dessas técnicas. Por outro lado, questões relativas à deficiência na aplicação, por parte do guia-intérprete, das referidas técnicas foram, consensualmente, as causas de aumento das dificuldades relatadas pelos sujeitos estudados. Foram, também, assinaladas interferências de fatores pessoais, apontando para a questão do relacionamento interpessoal, algo ainda não explorado completamente na formação desse profissional. Atenção a essa questão poderá contribuir satisfatoriamente no desempenho do guia-intérprete junto aos surdocegos adquiridos.

O BPI é um método de criação em dança, composto por três eixos fundamentais: o Inventário no Corpo, o Co- Habitar com a Fonte e a Estruturação da Personagem. No eixo do Co-Habitar com a Fonte foram realizadas cinco visitas à aldeia de Meruri, num processo de interação entre o pesquisador e os pesquisados. Concomitantemente às pesquisas de campo e os laboratórios, houve o aprofundamento dos sentidos e significados desta experiência. Possibilitou a experiência de uma dança viva em que as imagens, sensações, sentimentos e movimentos foram trabalhados no corpo do pesquisador. O BPI, como um método que não tem a dança centrada num corpo idealizado, mas que respeita as particularidades, proporcionou ao pesquisador mais que uma investigação em dança, uma experiência transformadora de vida; abrindo caminhos para refletir sobre a dança feita por um corpo real, penetrando nas várias camadas do corpo. No contato do pesquisador com os índios Bororo e o estudo do Método BPI, consolidou-se uma criação em dança. / Abstract: This paper presents an experience among the Bororo, a Brazilian indigenous people settled at the village of Meruri, in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso, which made use of some aspects from the BPI Method (Dancer-Researcher-Interpreter Method) developed by professor Dr. Graziela Rodrigues. BPI is a method for creation in dance constituted by three fundamental axis: Inventory in the Body, Cohabiting with the Sources and Character Formation. In the Cohabiting with the Sources axis, five visits were made to the village of Meruri, in a process of interaction between the researcher and the researched people. As field research and laboratories took place, the senses and meanings of this experience were analysed to be seen from a deeper perspective. This led to a lively dance in which images, sensations and movements were kneaded in the body of the researcher. BPI, as a method that does not project a dance for an idealized body, but respects the particularities instead, has offered the researcher more than an investigation into dance. It has offered an opportunity for a transforming life experience and opened ways for a reflection into a dance that is done by a real body, and that penetrates all layers of the body. In the contact of the researcher with the Bororo and in the study of the BPI method, a creative process in dance has been consolidated. / Mestrado / Mestre em Artes

Har jag tolkat dig rätt? : En litteraturstudie om uppfattningar och erfarenheter av tolkar inom vården

Bakgrund: Många länder i världen kan betraktas som mångkulturella vilket leder till att många olika språk möts inom vården och behovet av tolkar ökar. Att ha en tredje part i ett samtal kan eventuellt leda till komplikationer såsom missförstånd. Syfte: Syftet med denna studie är att studera uppfattningar och erfarenheter av kommunikation genom anställd tolk och möjliga konsekvenser för vården. Metod: Litteraturstudie baserad på fem kvantitativa och åtta kvalitativa originalartiklar från databaserna PubMed och Cinahl. Resultat: Det framkommer tydligt att det finns mycket att förbättra när det kommer till att kommunicera med hjälp av tolk. Både patienter och vårdpersonal uttrycker ett tydligt missnöje och beskriver negativa erfarenheter med de anställda tolkar de varit i kontakt med. De negativa erfarenheter som uttrycks starkast är bland annat tolkars bristande kunskaper inom språk och medicinsk terminologi, samt vårdtagares bristande förtroende för de tolkar de varit i kontakt med. Slutsats: Användandet av tolk inom vården gör relationen mellan vårdtagare och vårdpersonal mer komplicerad. Allt som sägs måste gå igenom en tredje part och för att detta ska fungera krävs ett bra samarbete mellan vårdpersonal, vårdtagare och tolk. Svårigheter som uppstår är misstro mot tolken angående översättning, kompetens och tystnadsplikt, vilket leder till att vårdtagaren undanhåller information. Även missförstånd och felöversättningar uppstår som får konsekvenser för både patient och vårdpersonal. För att vårdtagaren skall kunna få en god vård krävs det en ökning av auktoriserade och kompetenta tolkar. / Background: Many countries around the world are today multi-cultural which means that many different languages are being used in health care. This leads to an increased need for interpreters. The use of a third party in a conversation may lead to complications such as misunderstanding. Objective: The objective of this study is to examine experiences and perceptions of communicating through an interpreter and possible consequences for the health care. Method: Literature study based on five quantitative and eight qualitative original articles from the databases PubMed and Cinahl.   Results: The results reveal that there clearly is a lot to improve regarding communication through an interpreter. Both many patients and providers express dissatisfaction and negative experiences with the interpreters they have been in contact with. The negative experiences which are most common and expressed the strongest include interpreters lack of knowledge in language and medical terminology, as well as lack of trust in the interpreters they have met. Conclusion: The use of interpreters in health care makes the relation between patient and provider complicated. Everything wanted to be said needs to go through a third party and for this to work properly everyone included need to cooperate. Difficulties that may appear if the three parties cooperate poorly includes misunderstandings and misinterpretation, but also lack of trust towards the interpreter regarding translating correctly, competence and confidentiality. Because of all this the patient may withhold important information from the provider which affects the healthcare provided. For the patient to be able to receive good and reliable healthcare more authorised and competent interpreters are needed.

Patienters upplevelser av tolk inom hälso- och sjukvård : En systematisk litteraturstudie

Background: Commutative obstacles due to language difficulties are gradually increasing with migration. Consequences due to linguistic barriers may lead to misunderstandings or failures of information between patients and healthcare professionals. The availability of authorized hospital interpreters is significantly lower than the demand from patients who are in need for an interpreter. The Swedish Patient Act determines that all patients should be informed about their disease situation, upcoming treatment and aftercare. Aim: To describe patients' experiences of using interpreters in healthcare. Method: A systematic literature study of eleven scientific articles. Searches were made in the PubMed and CINAHL databases. Result: The analysis of included articles resulted in six themes, which were equal care, satisfaction with individualized interpreters, lack of trust, disability, fear for misunderstanding and when the interpreter is a family member. Conclusion: Patients experience access to a professional interpreter positively. However, there are significant deficiencies regarding interpreters in healthcare today. The ability to achieve person-centered care is complicated by the shortcomings that patients experience in the conversation via interpreter. Likewise, patients' ability to participate in their own care situation is complicated. / Bakgrund: De kommunikativa hindren till följd av språkliga svårigheter ökar successivt i och med migration. Konsekvenser till följd av språkliga hinder kan, inom vården, leda till att information mellan patient och vårdpersonal misstolkas eller ej framkommer. Utbudet av auktoriserade sjukhustolkar är betydligt lägre än efterfrågan från patienter i behov av tolk. Svensk Patientlag fastställer att alla patienter ska vara informerade om sin sjukdomssituation, kommande behandling och eftervård. Syfte: Att beskriva patienters upplevelser av att använda tolk inom hälso- och sjukvården. Metod: En systematisk litteraturstudie av elva vetenskapliga artiklar. Sökningar gjordes i databaserna PubMed och CINAHL. Resultat: Analysen av inkluderade artiklar resulterade i sex teman, vilka var jämlik vård, tillfredställelse med individanpassad tolk, bristande tillit, funktionshinder, rädsla för missförstånd och när tolken är en familjemedlem. Slutsats: Patienter upplever det positivt att få tillgång till en professionell tolk. Dock finns det betydande brister med tolkar inom sjukvården. Möjligheten till att uppnå en personcentrerad vård försvåras i och med de brister som patienter upplever med tolksamtal. Likaså försvåras patienternas möjlighet till delaktighet i sin egen vård.

Bakgrund: Vid ett vårdande möte där sjuksköterskor möter patienter med ett annat språk uppstår ett kommunikationsproblem. I dessa lägen kan en auktoriserad tolk behövas. Behovet av auktoriserad tolk ökade i samband med att immigrationen växte och samhället blev flerspråkigt. I vårdande mötet kan det uppstå utmaningar i kommunikation då sjuksköterskan kan få svårt att förstå samt förmedla information till en patient med annan kulturell och språklig bakgrund. Sjuksköterskans ansvar kring att göra patienten delaktig och införstådd i sin egen vård är en stor del i arbetet. Syfte: Syftet var att beskriva sjuksköterskors erfarenheter av att använda tolk i möten med patienter. Metod: En litteraturbaserad studie valdes där tio artiklar analyserats. Resultat: Ur analysen av datamaterialet framkom tre huvudkategorier; Olika uppfattningar om behovet av tolk, strukturella hinder samt att anhöriga inte ska behöva tolka och åtta underkategorier. Konklusion: Det fanns en tydlig koppling till hur betydelsefullt det är för sjuksköterskor att göra patienten delaktig i det vårdande mötet oavsett tidigare bakgrund och språk. Patientens delaktighet är av stor vikt för att sjuksköterskor ska kunna säkra samt uppfylla en god vård. Om patientens önskemål av att använda tolk inte tillgodoses kan detta leda till ett lidande för patienten i vården. / Background: In encounters between nurses and patients with another language could communication problem arise. In those situations, an authorized interpreter could be needed. The need of authorized interpreters arises when the immigration increased and the society became multilingual. There could be some communication challenges during the meetings when the nurse has difficulties to understand and to pass information to a patient from a different cultural with another language background. The responsibility of the nurse and the large part of the work is to make the patient involved and agreed upon the care service that is needed. Aim: The purpose was to describe nurses’ experiences of using an interpreter in encounters with patients. Method: A literature-based study with ten qualitative articles were chosen. Result: The analysis resulted in three categories; Different opinions regarding the importance of the interpreter, unclear guidelines and that relatives should not need to act as an interpreter and eight subcategories. Conclusion: There was an obvious conclusion how important it is for nurses to make the patient involved and agreed upon in the meetings regardless from earlier background and language. The patient involvement is of great importance to nurses to secure and meet a good care. If the patient’s wishes of not using an interpreter, it could lead to a suffering for the patient.

This work deals with creativity in simultaneous interpreting. It regroups knowledge about the creativity in different fields, mainly in psychology, and presents the actual state of the research of creativity in translatology. It brings out the similarity of interpreting with improvisation and art, which are both highly creative. On the basis of the existing models of process of interpreting, it proposes an empirical study of the product of interpreting, using language transformations, with the aim to prove that simultaneous interpreting is a creative activity on more levels (lexical, syntactical and semantic). This experiment was not convincing on a lexical level, but in general it helped to confirm that interpreters are creative during simultaneous interpreting.

Descobrir o que da sua formação em diversos métodos, sistemas e técnicas de dança e de teatro e em linguagens afins influenciou no BPI, bem como o que do contexto histórico da dança no Brasil dos anos 70 e 80. Para responder à essas indagações, a autora fez pesquisas bibliográficas e documentais, mas, sobretudo, pesquisas de campo, através da realização de dezoito entrevistas semiestruturadas inclusive com a própria criadora do BPI e o restante, na sua maioria, com artistas que trabalharam e conviveram com ela no período histórico de 1970-1987. Após a análise dessas entrevistas e o levantamento das suas categorias, dialogou os dados relevantes coletados de campo com os dados bibliográficos e documentais. Assim, a discussão desta tese revela novos dados sobre a história da dança no Brasil no período histórico estudado e sobre a história deste método, das suas origens, do seu nascimento até 1987. Also discover what, from her education in several dance and theater methods, systems and techniques and in related languages, influenced the DRI, as well as what from the historical context of dance in the Brazil of the 1970¿s and 1980¿s. In order to answer these questions, the author made bibliographic and documentary research, but above all, fieldwork by having eighteen semi-structured interviews, including with the creator of DRI and the rest, mostly with artists who worked and lived with her in the historical period from 1970 to 1987. After analyzing these interviews and the gathering of its categories, she dialogued the relevant data collected from the field with the bibliographical and documental data. Therefore the discussion of this thesis reveals new data on the history of dance in Brazil in the historical period studied and on the history of this method, its origins and its birth until 1987. Pharmacy perspectives in the design and implementation of a mobile cellular phone application as a communication aid for dispensing medicines to deaf people in the South African context

Doctor Pharmaceuticae - DPharm / South Africa's White Paper for the transformation of the health care system in South Africa (DOH, 2007) acknowledges major disparities and inequalities as a result of an imprint by apartheid policies. In its transition to democracy, health promotion strategies have been initiated to address these disparities. However, such strategies have been narrowed and "favoured target audiences that are literate, urban-based and who have easy access to print and audio-visual media" (DOH, 1997). This implies that many vulnerable and marginalised groupings in South Africa, including the Deaf community are excluded from health promotion endeavours. Deaf people in South Africa communicate using South African Sign Language (SASL) and majority of the Deaf community exhibit poor literacy levels. Deafness is a significant communication barrier which limits a Deaf person's prospect to attain the best possible health care (Barnett, et al 2011). Various means of communication including spoken language, written instructions and the use of pictograms are used by healthcare workers to communicate health-related information. For many members of the Deaf community who communicate primarily in sign language, these methods are a sub-standard and prevent the attainment of optimum therapeutic outcomes. With regard to pharmaco-therapeutic services, Deaf people cannot hear the spoken language used by pharmacists during patient counselling, and their compromised functional literacy hinders the ability to read instructions on medicine labels. With both the spoken and written means of communication compromised, the Deaf patient's ability to comprehend instruction by pharmacists on how to use their medicines is inadequate and as a result, a Deaf patient may leave the pharmacy with medicine, but a poor understanding of how to use the medicine safely and effectively. Previous researchers have worked on building a technology base, including industrial design and computer science expertise to conceptualize the groundwork of a mobile phone application called SignSupport to facilitate communication between medical doctors and Deaf individuals. The particulars of the pharmacy scenario however, require a pharmacy-specific device to be of use in the dispensing of medicines to a Deaf patient in a pharmacy. The over-arching goal of this thesis is to design and evaluate a mobile phone application to facilitate the communication of medicine instructions between a Deaf patient and a pharmacist. Qualitative, participatory action research and community-based co-design strategies were directed toward Deaf participants, senior pharmacy students and pharmacists to create a prototype of the afore-mentioned mobile phone application. Preliminary results indicated that the application was suitable to pharmacists and Deaf community. Furthermore, both sets of users approved the overall design and were receptive to and keen on the practical uses of the application. Inadequacies pointed out by the Deaf community and pharmacists were addressed as an iterative modification to the prototype and culminated in version 2 which was deployed in an actual hospital pharmacy in 2015. Hospital usability studies generated largely positive results from both Deaf users and pharmacists, indicating that SignSupport is able to facilitate communication between pharmacists and Deaf patients. Next steps include advancing the application to a market–ready version that is downloadable and available as an application on the play stores of commercially available smart phones. / National Research Foundation

The aim of this literature study was to investigate and analyze how social workers do to communicate with newly arrived people who cannot speak Swedish. The aim of the study was also to investigate what obstacles and opportunities arise when the social worker and the newly arrived must speak through an interpreter. We then processed the result and analyzed it with the help of power theory, role theory, a communication theory and stigma. Our results showed that the interpreter has a central role in the communication between social workers and the newly arrived and the interpreter's actions and professionalism influence how well the communication works in the meeting between social workers and the newly arrived. We also discovered that it places higher demands on the social worker as he tries to communicate and build a relationship with newly arrived.

Interpretace agentního systému řízeného záměrem v jazyce PROLOG / Intention Driven Agent in PROLOG

This lever deals with the realization of the iterpreter of an Driven Agent by the PROLOG implementation. The model was used by Jason implemented in Java that interprets the language of AgentSpeak(L). For the purposes of this project, the program in AgentSpeak(L) is first converted to an internal language form. For the demonstration, one of the examples included in the Jason program, specifically "cleaning robors", was used. The interpreter can interpret the system as a FRAg and can react in the enviroment.
