fragmentação e incompletude, e menos absolutista porque menos arraigado
logocentrismo do pensamento especulativo literário.
Bataille. / Sappho's lyrical poetry is by now of millenary power, but she remains
outside the literary canon however steady her poetry still stands. Her
marginalization from the canon and erasure from literature has resulted in a
granted niche of research, however very specific, in modern Greek Studies.
Even though to some she configures as a fine subject of enquiry, the interest
she provides to speculative thinking has been so far historically established as
pertaining almost exclusively to anthropological, biographical, cultural and social questions and they, if not motivated by linguistic interest, almost never concern her poetry. They certainly do not concern her poetry as an aesthetic
and scriptural field of enquiry to problems of contemporary thought. For those reasons, we would like to discuss the notion that her absence from the canon
actually reveals modern literary critic's sovereign statute and absolutist
character. In order to discuss Sappho's importance to contemporary thought,
we present the contemporary French debate about the ideas of body and community and advance the proposal that her lyric is a beautiful example of community but is however far ahead as to what concerns the body. Her poetry allows for a less absolutist understanding of text for its fragmentary character because it is entirely absent from the ideas of subjectivity, consciousness and
intentionality that have given modern literary critic the strength to keep its
logocentric hold on text and culture. To give course to that purpose, we follow
Jacque Derrida's theory of Deconstruction and fuel a debate between Jean-Luc
Nancy and Maurice Blanchot in their desire to understand Georges Bataille's
literary and theoretical texts.

The coastal interface : Lesbos and AnatoliaEllis-Evans, Aneurin January 2013 (has links)
This thesis is a regional history of Lesbos and the adjacent regions of Troas and Aiolis in NW Turkey during Greco-Roman antiquity. This area represents a zone of transition between the Mediterranean and inland Asia Minor, and therefore provides us with a case study of how regions which lie at the margins or beyond the theoretical framework of Horden and Purcell's The Corrupting Sea (2000) function. Rather than defining the area of study simply in terms of physical geography, I instead argue that we can identify a region which I term the coastal interface that is characterized by the overlapping and intermingling dynamics of the maritime and terrestrial worlds. This zone of transition can extend out to sea to include nearby islands which are orientated towards the mainland, for example Lesbos in the case of my thesis, or equally it can stretch inland up river valleys or along other routes of communication to places which, although out of sight of the sea, were nevertheless profoundly influenced by their connection to the maritime world. The chapters of the thesis aim to demonstrate that the concept of the coastal interface can help illuminate the social and economic history of communities living within this region, with Chapters 1-3 focusing on the Troad and Chapters 4-7 looking at Lesbos. The subjects covered include Hellenistic Ilion and the koinon of Athena Ilias (Chapter 1), Theophrastos as a source for the social and economic history of the forests of Mt. Ida (Chapter 2), large-scale state-directed horse breeding in the middle Skamander valley (Chapter 3), Mytilene's peraia in coastal Anatolia from the seventh century down to 427 (Chapter 4), Mytilene's minting of billon and electrum coinage in the fifth century (Chapter 5), the refoundation of the Lesbian koinon in the early second century BC (Chapter 6), and the Aiolian aspect of Mytilenaian identity in the first centuries BC and AD (Chapter 7).

What are reasons that refugee children seek for emergency health care in Lesbos island, Greece:a cross-sectional study; Primary data collection.Krikigianni, Christina January 2016 (has links)
BACKGROUND: Millions of people have fled from their countries, due to war or conflict, in order to find a safer environment for themselves and their children. One common destination is Europe, which people can reach only through the sea from the Turkish coast to the Greek coast after walking hundreds of kilometers through the mountains. This long journey has a significant impact on refugee children’s health and that is primarily observed in the Greek islands were they can seek for emergency health care. The aim of this study is to investigate the reasons that the refugee children seek for emergency help in the hospital of Lesbos, Greece. METHODS: Primary data collection from the medical records of the Pediatric department of the hospital of Lesbos. Statistical analysis of the data with R commander 3.2.1.The results will be presented in diagrams and tables, showing the most common symptoms/clinical findings, diagnoses, origin, gender, hospitalization or not of the refugee children and the relation of the symptoms and diagnoses in accordance with the seasonality, age, gender and origin calculated with Chi² and Chi² Fischer test. RESULTS: Respiratory tract infections and gastro-intestinal tract infections are the first two most common diagnoses by far. Almost half of the refugee children that were submitted in the Hospital of Lesbos needed hospitalization and further treatment. More than half of the refugee children that sought after emergency help in the hospital of Lesbos were Syrians and boys. Mental health was also a big issue. CONCLUSION: The journey that the refugee children are undertaking in order to reach the Greek islands and the prolonged living in refugee camps and detention centers is affecting their mental and physical health, with respiratory tract infections and gastro-intestinal tract infections being the major diagnoses.

En estetisk studie vid Dödens havHarms, Angelica January 2016 (has links)
The subject of my essay concerns the images of refugees that have been taken on Lesvos during the last year. The aim of this essay is to examine the relationship between the photographer, the camera and the island as a scene för photographers, through the images that were taken there. The main scene is the beaches of Lesvos where tragedies and (sometimes) even comedies take place. I am working in a field where photography, aesthetics and social anthropology intersect. As regards to method, I have applied researcher Ruben Anderssson's ”extended field site” to my own field studies concerning Lesvos. The refugee situation that recently found its centre on the Greek islands is built up of networks that stretch far and wide across the globe. Events in one part of the world affect what is happening on Lesvos and vice versa. The media and NGOs are also part of larger networks. Therefore the field site needs to be extended beyond the geographical borders of Lesvos. I did field studies on Lesvos two times during the last year. I interviewed photographers and volunteers and took photographs of my own. Intuition is an integral part of my work and I have also applied it to my field studies. One of my starting points has been Judith Butler’s thoughts on what makes a life grievable. Butler's main hypothesis is that we view certain lives as having less value than others and thereby we will be less likely to grieve the passing of such lives. I examine the images of refugees to see if photography can help us better regard their lives as grievable. Refugees are people whose exposed bodies live precarious lives. Photographers can capture this in images but it is the spectator who has the final say in how images affect him or her. I end the essay by examining the spectator and what happens when we are confronted with disturbing images. Images of refugees in need exhort us to react whether we want to or not. We can turn away, but once images have entered out consciousness, there is no turning back.

do corpo político das lésbicas, dinamizado e processado historicamente. E, nessa
______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This paper aims to establish a dialogue on the formation of the body politic of
lesbians, streamlined and historical processes. And this mix of colors, as noted by Sappho, this kaleidoscope in the shape of the rainbow is created a historic building,
which is a narrative. And so, in the process new forms, as Foucault put a political
game and thinking as a subject. It also states that of the classical era to the
contemporary era there is the great contribution that provides significant subsidies for the recognition of the diversity of identities, and that includes sexuality. Surely questioned the concept of identity leads to an understanding of the formation of the body politic of lesbians and the elements involved. The theoretical framework discussed in this dissertation is the centrality of poetry in Safo, thinkers (s) and philosophers. Finally, the fluidity of the body politic act allows certain originality to it. Thus, sexuality is placed under new creative ways, in a sense this means that lesbianism is not discovered, because it exists by the will and is inseparable from what one is.

Gerda Wegener : Erotiska illustrationer i det sapfiska ParisEkelund, Ina January 2022 (has links)

Today’s technology allows people to interact at a great distance that could not be imagined before. Through the technology, the media such as news channels and social media which allows people to interact as well as read and gather information from all over the world. For example, a person can gather information from the comfort of his own home, without having to experience it himself. The purpose of this paper is to examine how the media coverage affects and alters tourist’s attitudes and views of a tourist destination. The study has limited itself to the Greek Island of Lesvos and how its tourism has been affected by the media reports of the refugee movements. The authors of the study have applied a quantitative research method in the form of structured interviews. Secondary data have also been collected such as; news from social media, scientific articles, statistics, and facts from governmental organizations, in order to have a deeper understanding of the subject that is studied. The results of the structured interview showed that the majority of respondents gained their knowledge of the island Lesvos through media outlets. Whilst the majority of those who participated expressed that they could not imagine traveling to the island of Lesvos in Greece for pleasure and relaxation. The study survey shows that the media coverage of the refugee tide and the island of Lesvos had a great influence among the respondents. Based on the information from the media outlet, the island was described as a refugee camp and the respondents traveling for relaxation and fun chose to avoid Lesvos as a tourist destination I conclusion; the study indicates that the majority of the Swedish tourists have a negative attitude and view towards Lesvos due to the coverage and information spread by the media. Furthermore, it is important to note that the attitudes and views of the tourists differ from each individual. This is because every individual receives and perceives the information differently, even though it may come from the same source.

Sanitation in Moria : The Sphere minimum standards and sustainability in a protracted crisisKorhonen, Karoliina January 2020 (has links)
With over 19,200 asylum seekers living on its premises, the Moria refugee camp is operating way over its capacity of 3000 residents. Due to the uncontrolled, rapid growth of the camp, the existing sanitation infrastructure has fallen into disrepair under excessive usage. While the old toilets and showers are breaking down and lacking maintenance, creating new facilities has been slow, resulting in hundreds of people sharing one latrine. In this thesis, I analyze whether Moria‟s sanitation services meet the Sphere minimum standards and propose improvements based on the sustainable settlements framework. I argue that Moria is midst a protracted crisis. This means that in addition to meeting the minimum standards, the camp needs sustainable settlement planning for the many years it still has ahead of it. As a method, I use integrative literature review. The thesis finds that Moria cannot meet any of the Sphere standards as people live in a degrading, dangerous and unhealthy environment. Women and disabled people face additional challenges when using the few latrines, which are far away and have long queues. There is a risk of SGBV for vulnerable groups. Wastewater from Moria used to pollute a local stream until the sewage system was connected to a waste-processing plant in 2019, which is the only positive aspect that was found in the literature. However, broken pipes still create significant problems inside the camp. Seeing that waste is a problem on the tightly-packed camp, it is important that when new toilets are built they process excreta safely while saving space. I have introduced sustainable sanitation solutions that turn excreta into soil improver and energy. These toilets have long life-spans and are optimized to save space. They solve the problem of pollution and ideally, enhance the independence of their users, as excreta is turned into safe-to-handle products. To ensure that the users accept the new technologies, their engagement in the planning of the services is essential.
