No. of bitstreams: 1 MARIA JOSE CARDOSO.pdf: 768659 bytes, checksum: 0246805567d2cef159025ef1c50e774b (MD5) Previous issue date: 2011-08-08 / The present research has as an objective to go further in the knowing of the liberating praxis of Jesus, based on two passages: Lc 4 14- 21 and Mt 9, 35-38. The Good News brought by Jesus consists mainly on the announcement of the kingdom of God here on earth, whose instauration happens in a special way, by inclusion/promotion of the poor and marginalized of society. In this context, can see that Jesus was profoundly moved by the Jewish spirituality centered on it Abba (Father), with whom he maintained bonds of intimate connection and harmony (verticality), as well as by the manifestation of pity and compassion for everyone that in any way or for any reason, found themselves on the margin of society (horizontality). Therefore, knowing the liberating praxis of Jesus, while having the gospels as a starting point, is a prior condition to the living of an authentic Christian spirituality today, which includes a special attention to the poor and marginalized, as well as the relativization of material assets in favor of the values of God s kingdom, which may give life in abundance. Thus, defend the premises that the start of an authentic Christian spirituality must be founded on the liberating praxis of Jesus which encompasses the connection with the transcendent as well as the relationship with people; this is how we really evidence the conquest of the values of God s kingdom taught by Jesus.

Pereira, Leandro Carlos 10 February 2015 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-29T14:27:26Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Leandro Carlos Pereira.pdf: 1139055 bytes, checksum: 8dd769a18887ca4232fee5a702190823 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2015-02-10 / The Theology of the cross has always had deep existing relationship between the Latin American people with Jesus Christ who suffered and died on the cross, pointing to the elements of a liberating christology of the cross. Because the sufferings of Christ crucified today in our poor, on our workers poorly paid, in malnourished children, helpless and sexually exploited, in young people disoriented and exploited by the drug trade and excluded from the field of education, of the working and opportunities, and the elderly that are discarded by the culture of utility by identifying them with the "junk" to be discarded. Our study seeks to identify the understanding of the cross in Latin American Christology from the crucified peoples of history, because would be useless and fruitless reflection on the cross of the historical Christ, if we do not look and point out to these crucified peoples which they pursue their pursuit towards Calvary in our dear and beloved Latin America characterized by the exploitation of the richest towards the poorest. However, if the cross is a symbol that leads out of the Church and religious yearning down into the communion with the crucified of history. In the reverse direction, it is a symbol that calls the oppressed and the impious for the Church, and through it, to communion with the crucified God who made himself God with us. Make present the cross in our culture means not accommodate this society to their idols and taboos, fears and fetishes, but in the name of him which in the past was sacrificed by religion, society and state, sympathizes with the current victims of religion, society and State, making himself as Jesus crucified, brother and liberating them / A Teologia da cruz sempre teve profunda relação existente entre o povo latino americano com Jesus Cristo que sofreu e morreu na cruz, apontando os elementos de uma cristologia libertadora da cruz.

Performing Motherhood: Artistic, Activist, and Everyday Enactments

Kinser, Amber E., Freehling-Burton, Kym, Hawkes, Terri 31 December 2014 (has links)
Performing Motherhood explores relationships between performativity and the maternal. Highlighting mothers lived experiences, this collection examines mothers creativity and agency as they perform in everyday life: in mothering, in activism, and in the arts. Chapters contain theoretically grounded works that emerge from multiple disciplines and cross-dis- ciplines and include first-person narratives, empirical studies, artistic representations, and performance pieces. This book focuses on motherwork, maternal agency, mothers multiple identities and marginalized maternal voices, and explores how these are performatively constituted, negotiated and affirmed. / https://dc.etsu.edu/etsu_books/1177/thumbnail.jpg

Estimation of Nonlinear Dynamic Systems : Theory and Applications

Schön, Thomas B. January 2006 (has links)
This thesis deals with estimation of states and parameters in nonlinear and non-Gaussian dynamic systems. Sequential Monte Carlo methods are mainly used to this end. These methods rely on models of the underlying system, motivating some developments of the model concept. One of the main reasons for the interest in nonlinear estimation is that problems of this kind arise naturally in many important applications. Several applications of nonlinear estimation are studied. The models most commonly used for estimation are based on stochastic difference equations, referred to as state-space models. This thesis is mainly concerned with models of this kind. However, there will be a brief digression from this, in the treatment of the mathematically more intricate differential-algebraic equations. Here, the purpose is to write these equations in a form suitable for statistical signal processing. The nonlinear state estimation problem is addressed using sequential Monte Carlo methods, commonly referred to as particle methods. When there is a linear sub-structure inherent in the underlying model, this can be exploited by the powerful combination of the particle filter and the Kalman filter, presented by the marginalized particle filter. This algorithm is also known as the Rao-Blackwellized particle filter and it is thoroughly derived and explained in conjunction with a rather general class of mixed linear/nonlinear state-space models. Models of this type are often used in studying positioning and target tracking applications. This is illustrated using several examples from the automotive and the aircraft industry. Furthermore, the computational complexity of the marginalized particle filter is analyzed. The parameter estimation problem is addressed for a relatively general class of mixed linear/nonlinear state-space models. The expectation maximization algorithm is used to calculate parameter estimates from batch data. In devising this algorithm, the need to solve a nonlinear smoothing problem arises, which is handled using a particle smoother. The use of the marginalized particle filter for recursive parameterestimation is also investigated. The applications considered are the camera positioning problem arising from augmented reality and sensor fusion problems originating from automotive active safety systems. The use of vision measurements in the estimation problem is central to both applications. In augmented reality, the estimates of the camera’s position and orientation are imperative in the process of overlaying computer generated objects onto the live video stream. The objective in the sensor fusion problems arising in automotive safety systems is to provide information about the host vehicle and its surroundings, such as the position of other vehicles and the road geometry. Information of this kind is crucial for many systems, such as adaptive cruise control, collision avoidance and lane guidance.

Target Classification Based on Kinematics / Klassificering av flygande objekt med hjälp av kinematik

Hallberg, Robert January 2012 (has links)
Modern aircraft are getting more and better sensors. As a result of this, the pilots are getting moreinformation than they can handle. To solve this problem one can automate the information processingand instead provide the pilots with conclusions drawn from the sensor information. An aircraft’smovement can be used to determine which class (e.g. commercial aircraft, large military aircraftor fighter) it belongs to. This thesis focuses on comparing three classification schemes; a Bayesianclassification scheme with uniform priors, Transferable Belief Model and a Bayesian classificationscheme with entropic priors. The target is modeled by a jump Markov linear system that switches between different modes (flystraight, turn left, etc.) over time. A marginalized particle filter that spreads its particles over thepossible mode sequences is used for state estimation. Simulations show that the results from Bayesianclassification scheme with uniform priors and the Bayesian classification scheme with entropic priorsare almost identical. The results also show that the Transferable Belief Model is less decisive thanthe Bayesian classification schemes. This effect is argued to come from the least committed principlewithin the Transferable Belief Model. A fixed-lag smoothing algorithm is introduced to the filter andit is shown that the classification results are improved. The advantage of having a filter that remembersthe full mode sequence (such as the marginalized particle filter) and not just determines the currentmode (such as an interacting multiple model filter) is also discussed.

Schutte, Susanna Elizabeth 30 November 2004 (has links)
Since earliest times death has been an important and always actual theme in the arts. The point of departure of this thesis is to examine the portrayal of the ”discourse of and about death” in the poems of three women poets, namely Elisabeth Eybers, Olga Kirsch and Eveleen Castelyn. Various aspects of death thematics are considered and, from a formal perspective, the presence and absence of traditional forms concerning death, such as the ”obituary poem”, the ”elegy”, the ”dirge” and the ”threnody” are investigated. The research plan and the development of the study are dealt with in chapter one. The problem formulation and theoretical approaches for this study are given special attention. In chapter two the death theme in literature throughout the centuries, and specifically in poetry, is relevant. Death thematics occurring in English, Dutch, Afrikaans, Chinese, American, Russian, German, French and Spanish literatures are examined. Philosophical and Christian viewpoints concerning death are also investigated. The portrayal of death in the poetry of Elisabeth Eybers is the topic in chapter three. Her oeuvre is devided into four periods. The collections from Belydenis in die skemering up to Rymdwang are only summarily referred to, since this section has already been dealt with in my MA dissertation (Schutte, 1988). The following six volumes are discussed in detail concerning her religious views and the portrayal of death by way of various subthemes and stances. Chapter four is dedicated to the poetry of Olga Kirsch and in chapter five to that of Eveleen Castelyn. In chapter six a comparison is drawn between the three poets regarding their shared death thematics, similarities and differences in their mode of betrayal and their views on the afterlife. During her oeuvre Eybers adopts an agnostic view, Kirsch embraces the Jewish faith and Castelyn holds a Christian point of view throughout her oeuvre. At the end of the study a summary and findings are given and the conclusion, that the three poets increasingly become preoccupied with death, is reached. / Afrikaans and Theory of Literature / (D. Reasons behind children drop out of primary schools with unequal socio-economic preconditions : A comparative case study of three primary schools in Babati Town Council, Tanzania

Ketija, Danovska January 2018 (has links)
One of the countries where the basic academic education is problematic to achieve is Tanzania. Despite the multiple attempts to increase enrolments and decrease dropouts through new partnerships and organizations, high level of drop out still occur in the country. Two research questions were composed in aim to understand why this drop out phenomenon still occur. First question: “Which individual/ collective factors contribute to that girls and boys in the age group between 7 and 13 drop out of  primary schools?” and the second question: “What differences are there in the drop out causes between two more “privileged” and one more “marginalized” school?”.  The answers to these questions were found through the field work in Babati Town Council, Tanzania. There primary data was gathered in form of semi-structured interviews with three headteachers from three different schools. Two privileged schools; Maisaka Primary School and Primary School Oyster bay, and one marginalized school; Kiongozi Primary School. Also interviews with nine parents/other guardians of dropouts were conducted. Gathered data was summarized in short case stories, narratives which later on were analyzed with in a theoretical framework. This theoretical framework consisted of six different theories. These theories are; Academic Mediation theory, General Deviance theory, Deviant Affiliation theory, Poor Family Socialization theory, Structural Strains theory and lastly a theory of Institutional Departure. The conclusion of the study is that, even though the schools are located in the same area a major difference in dropout rates and its causes are existing. At the marginalized school there is a high level of drop out and at more privileged schools no dropouts occur. Factors which play a major role for this existing difference are; childrens and parents commitment to school, family structure and background, family's socio-economic status, relationships in the family and of course quality of the school.

The first presents the repertoire and program notes, the final recital – held on April 25th, two thousand and fourteen, and the first recital – runs on September 6th, two thousand and Thirteen. The final recital exclusively presents premieres of this research composers, while the qualification recital was developed entirely with the resulting pieces of lifting repertoire for percussion marginalized instruments. Section B presents the paper, which discusses the experience of a collaborative process between performer-composer in the creation of seven new works for solo percussion. Initially, the theoretical apparatus of collaboration is exposed, sectioning the material raised on four types of approach to collaborative relationship. Then we discuss the choice of instruments and the use of marginalized experimental technique to realization of new compositions, expressing an aesthetic preference that agree Cagean thought that all sound is equally valid, and consequently that any object is likely to be the focus of a solo composition. The second part of the article deals with Call for new works for percussion. Initially displays the call on your part, drawn from the understanding gained in the bibliographical survey about collaborative relationship; then explains the process of selection of participants composers and finally lists with data on each of the seven compositions written for this research, using the following instruments: bass drum, tinplate, geophone, gongs Beijing, lion's roar, tambourine and bass drum. As a result of the registration of all the stages of relationship with composers, the third part of the article presents some examples of influences inherent in the collaborative authoring process, and this binding element in the exchange of information between collaborative pair of scores to specific passages. Attachments as well follow the scores of works, the process of collaboration, recorded in detail over the various stages of the proceedings including documents, emails and records exchanged between the performer and composers.

Homelessness and Violence: Freud, Fanon and Foucault and the shadow of the Afrikan sex worker

Harper, Eric January 2012 (has links)
Philosophiae Doctor - PhD / In this thesis, I will argue that one of the ways to think about the concept of homelessness and its relationship to violence is to trace the concept as it emerges in key theoretical texts of critical intellectuals who find themselves both in and outside the Western homeland. In attempting to do so, I limit this thesis to three key theoretical articulations from which the concept of homelessness can be extracted: the works of Sigmund Freud, Franz Fanon and Michael Foucault. In bringing to bear the life and work of these individuals, the hope is to conceive of the relationship between violence and homelessness in new and unforeseen ways. I propose to bring an informed interdisciplinary and gender perspective to bear on the concept of homelessness. Accepting the supposition that the body can be seen as a site of homecoming,I explore the question of who owns the body. This exploration is undertaken through an examination of the advocacy slogan, ‘my body, my business’, and the placement of the Afrikan sex worker alongside Freud, Fanon and Foucault. The Afrikan sex worker in this work is a new feminist potentiality in much the same way that homelessness offers new postcolonial possibilities. While much of postcolonial criticism has centred on the problem of the colonized subject’s relation to the home, there has not yet been a sustained undertaking of the history and meaning of the concept of homelessness and, more importantly, its relationship to the experience of violence in the contemporary world. The history of homeless people tends to be recorded through surveillance and documentation by those institutions responsible for providing discipline, punishment, shelter and cure so as to ‘save’ and ‘rescue’ them. These responses, particularly when done systematically, can become frameworks that hold the homeless person ransom to a particular language game of ‘truth’, thereby restricting the homeless person’s movement and possibility of finding a voice. Deriving a concept of homelessness from the life and work of Freud, Fanon and Foucault allows for new insights. These thinkers offer a view of homelessness that is productive for thinking against the grain of dominant orthodoxies. This contrasts with the implication of pathologization of homelessness which arises in the frameworks of dominant political, therapeutic and social work approaches. The creation of homelessness also recalls the attendant violence of its experience. I argue that the space of homelessness needs to be contextualized. When homelessness is imposed, as with torture or a tsunami, there is a closing down of space; but when chosen, as with the transgendered sex worker who leaves her home and community due to threats, impositions and judgements, homelessness may paradoxically open up space. Drawing on the insights from these theorists, I also suggest that the concept of homelessness may at a symbolic level serve rather as a powerful space of resistance to hegemonic practices of belonging, offering a way of destabilising dominant patriarchal, heteronormative and Western constructions of home. The thesis concludes that homelessness cannot be kept outside the boundaries of the home; and neither can the homeless be fully assimilated into the homeland, as something within the home is irreducible to any ordering of things. The border, boundary and intersections of home and homelessness are blurred, forever incomplete, as the home finds itself ceaselessly stained and crossed with the uncanny, that is, the ‘unhomely’. Home, as noted by Delia Vekony (2010), is a site of hospitality. It is a space to think, play, and dream, eat, make love and raise children. But it is also a stage upon which the state apparatus, global economy, monotheistic religions and patriarchal order assert control over the body. Homelessness has been constructed as a material experience for many: a site of terror, abandonment and lack of direction. It is often experience it as free falling or as the mental foreclosure of space. Yet I underline another dimension of homelessness: as an experience of liberation. This ‘camping on the borders’ allows for a disruption of identification, a state of refuge from the demands of others and a form of nomadic thinking. Within any home setting lurks the uncanny, what cannot be housed, likewise within any homeless setting a becoming-at-home is possible. Both home and homelessness hold the possibility of terror as well as a comforting, exciting retreat and escape.

"Vi är här, vi kommer att stanna & vi gör det här tillsammans." : En diskursanalys av tre marginaliserade gruppers tal om utanförskap genom sociala rörelser.

Carlsson, Amina, Moa, Ståhlberg January 2021 (has links)
This study aims to find out how exclusion is expressed among racialized marginalized groups in Sweden. Through a discourse theoretical perspective in combination with Goffman's theory of stigmatization and stereotyping, this study has examined how three marginalized groups expressed their own perceived exclusion; sami, afro-swedes and muslims in Sweden. The material consists of videos that we have transcribed and analyzed, taken from social movements' websites and social media. The processing of the material focused on themes we found; Exclusion, cohesion with the majority group, stereotyping and discrimination.  By studying how these groups express themselves through social movements, the discourse analysis has shed light on how these members feel racialized and excluded from the Swedish society in a number of different ways. A discourse theoretical perspective and Goffman's theory of stigmatization and stereotyping have identified a number of patterns that form the basis for these groups' perceived exclusion. Through Goffman, we have been able to identify that tribal stigma and blemishes on the personal character are two ways in which the marginalized groups express their stigma and exclusion they are exposed to.
