A hermenêutica de Paul Ricoeur: da poética à teoria da narrativa e à identidade narrativa / The hermeneuthical theory of Paul Ricoeur: from Aristoteles\' Poetics to narrativity and narrative indentity

Siqueira, Paula Frassinete de Queiros 02 June 2009 (has links)
This argument holds, in a first moment, a research on the linkage and dialogue that Paul Ricoeur establishes with other philosophical trends, especially those made by Wilhelm Dilthey, Martin Heidegger, Hans-Georg Gadamaer and Edmund Husserl, with emphasis on the phenomenological method. At that time, it also shows the dialogue that Paul Ricoeur maintains with Naberts reflective philosophy and the critics made to the philosophies of the self, in particular the Cartesian Cogito. Thus presents the main concepts of hermeneutic philosophy, since Friedrich Shcleiermacher, its principal precursor, until Hans-Georg Gadamer, with emphasis on the contribution that Paul Ricoeur offers for this field. Later, this work examines the application done by Paul Ricoeur of the concepts of his hermeneutic at the exegesis done at Aristotles Poetics, precisely the mimesis ternary, Muthos and katharsis. Then it shows the reinscription that Ricoeur promotes of his results on a theory of narrative, which he calls \"narrative meta-category. This work highlights this meta-category, monitoring only the development promoted by Ricoeur giving rise to the fiction narrative. Then examines these concepts, which address for the establishment of the \"hermeneutics of self\" and the core is the narrative identity notion. After that, this work takes ownership, in a gadamerian sense, of notion promoting an approach with the fictional universe of Grande Sertão Veredas, from João Guimarães Rosa. Finally, very briefly, presents a summary of the main ethical consequences, the Aristotelian sense, of that notion.

Umerkajeff, Marie January 2017 (has links)
This is a qualitative study with a hermeneutical approach written from a drama teacher's point of view on practical knowledge in aesthetic subjects in a secondary school. The method is referred to as “the model of Södertörn”, a professional inductive method based on a phenomenological introspective referred to as the situation of action. The open questions concern didactics and questions about the difference between aesthetic and artistic in a pedagogical context. The learning is examined based on an actual situation with reference to Viola Spolin’s methods of improvisation and point of concentration (POC), where the student is side–coached. The technique is alienation as described from a theatre perspective. Through the support of the theatre practice and philosophers such as John Dewey, Hans-Georg Gadamer and Susanne Langer, knowledge theory, methodology of the theory of practice are weighed together to describe and analyse how the learning occurs. A critical interpretation space with reference to Plato and Socrates becomes the logic of hermeneutic openness. The method as such is built on a dialectic relationship were the basis for how both learning and the research took place. In order to provide answers to what knowledge is, described as in the Swedish schools governing documents, the concepts of knowledge has been reviewed through a content analysis. There is a dialogue between theory and practice to find out, if there is any difference between aesthetic and artistic knowledge, where Aristotle play a role, when a new proposal for introducing aesthetic subjects as mandatory in secondary school makes a new entrance.

Upprepning, kombination, yta : Per Olov Enquists mogna författarskap i relation till det svenska 1960-talet / Repetition, Combination, Surface : The Mature Works of Per Olov Enquist in Relation to Swedish Avantgarde Aesthetics of the 1960s

Siwers, Carl-Wilhelm January 2021 (has links)
By conceptualizing repetition with the Swedish avantgarde aesthetics of the 1960s as a point of departure, this thesis argues that the repetition phenomena in the mature works of Per Olov Enquist (1934–2020) are indebted to the period. Hereby it brings together two major trends in the Enquist research that previously have been separate. In accordance with the main tendency of the period, the Enquistian repetitions reuse concrete constituents and are of technical and combinatory nature. According to the taxonomy introduced in the thesis, they are mainly internarrative, i.e., they transcend the limits of the individual stories. Thus, in Enquist, the superficial, anti-mimetic as well as anti-hermeneutical qualities pertaining to the period are a consequence of the specifically internarrative character of the repetitions, whereas the individual stories remain mimetically coherent. Furthermore, the thesis investigates a metapoetic discourse in the mature works; in part, it demonstrates a continuity between this discourse and the non-metapoetic notion of repetition in Enquist’s novels of the ‘60s. Altogether, the thesis proposes a way of historically situating the Enquist oeuvre as a whole; supposedly, it will contribute to further studies with similar aims.

Visual representation in the work of Joseph Roth, 1923-1932

Newman, Sigrid J. January 2007 (has links)
Through an examination of Joseph Roth’s reportage and fiction published between 1923 and 1932, this thesis seeks to provide a systematic analysis of a particular aspect of the author’s literary style, namely his use of sharply focused visual representations, which are termed Heuristic Visuals. Close textual analysis, supplemented by insights from reader-response theory, psychology, psycholinguistics and sociology illuminate the function of these visual representations. The thesis also seeks to discover whether there are significant differences and correspondences in the use of visual representations between the reportage and fiction genres. Roth believed that writers should be engagiert, and that the truth could only be arrived at through close observation of reality, not subordinated to theory. The research analyses the techniques by which Roth challenges his readers and encourages them to discover the truth for themselves. Three basic variants of Heuristic Visuals are identified, and their use in different contexts, including that of dialectical presentations, is explored. There is evidence of the use of different variants of Heuristic Visuals according to the respective rhetorical demands of particular thematic issues. It has also been possible to establish synchronic correspondences between the different genres, and diachronic correspondences within genres. Although there are examples within the reportage where the entire article is based on an Heuristic Visual, the use of Heuristic Visuals cannot be seen as a key organizing principle in Roth’s work as a whole. As his mastery of the technique reaches its highest point in the early 1930s, Heuristic Visuals are often incorporated into the reconstruction of a complete sensory experience. Analysis of Roth’s heuristic use of visual representations has led to important insights, including a reinterpretation of the endings of Roth’s two most famous novels: Hiob and Radetzkymarsch.

Jewish vaccines against mimetic desire : Rene Girard and Jewish ritual

Avery, Vanessa Jane January 2013 (has links)
In 1972, with the publication of Violence and the Sacred, René Girard makes the stunning assertion that violence is the foundation of culture. Humanity’s innate urges for competition and rivalry entrap us in cycles of violence, which left alone would find no resolution. Girard calls the cause of this rivalry “mimetic desire”, and the only way out of this deeply embedded vengeance is to create a scapegoat to take the blame, reconciling the conflicting parties. Girard asserts that the biblical texts uniquely reveal the mechanisms of mimetic rivalry and scapegoating, and even demystify sacrificial rituals as nothing more than sacrilized “good” violence to keep a fragile peace. This revelation, according to Girard, can finally allow us to remove violence from the sacred. Much scholarship has been devoted to Girard’s theory, in particular how it offers a viable alternative to the still-dominant sacrificial theology of the cross. But there is little scholarship on the connection between Girard and Judaism; and Girard’s own work leaves us with a picture of Judaism that is at best incomplete, and at worst unable to find an answer to disturbing violence permeating the scriptures. This dissertation brings the Hebrew Bible into dialogue with Girard’s ideas in a systematic fashion to assert, contra Girard, that the Jewish revelation is a full, effective and even practical expression of his theory. After an overview of Girard’s work in the first chapter, the dissertation examines three Jewish “vaccines” to the mimetic disease as follows: the Birkhat ha-Banim (“The Blessing of the Children”); the reading of the Book of Esther on Purim; and the reading of Jonah on Yom Kippur. The conclusion to the dissertation asserts, drawing on these three demonstrations, the following points: 1) Rene Girard gives an important and clarifying lens to aid us in finding a new way to talk about, understand, and unify Jewish scripture and ritual; 2) a Jewish perspective can help flesh out what a different “revelation” of Girard’s mimetic desire looks like—even providing prescriptions to curtail this desire; and 3) positive mimesis is possible, and there are Hebrew examples of it free of originary violence. The final chapter addresses certain challenges in reconciling Girard with Judaism, moving toward a sincere Jewish Girardianism that will harmonize with the central views of the tradition.

Sub for More

Lee, Chelsea 01 January 2017 (has links)
This written thesis unpacks the thoughts and motivations behind the decisions I have made in my artistic practice that have ultimately culminated in my M.F.A. Thesis Exhibition: Sub for More. By merging images of my own work as well as internet sourced images of the culture that drives my work, I have created a platform to begin to understand my experience during graduate school. This text examines and explores my belief in the inherent power in pop culture, my obsession with fame, celebrity, and my self-identity as a participant in current pop-culture.

Katharsis v řecké tragédii / Katharsis in Greek tragedy

Duchek, Libor January 2011 (has links)
This paper is focused on the concept of catharsis in classic Greek tragedy. In the first part, it traces historical context of this term particularly trough the work of Plato; and later, the main effort is devoted to Aristotle. It looks closely in Aristotle's Poetics and Politics, which are the only works where he mentions catharsis. After research of the Aristotle's texts, the study presents variety of interpretations that have arisen over centuries, examines them and derives an elementary understanding of catharsis. The second part of this work tries to trace catharsis in a sample of preserved tragedies of main Greek dramatists. It investigates tragic characters, plot and tragic emotions (i.e. pity and fear). The scope is to compare the Aristotle's theory and practice of dramatists, who lived one century before the theory had rised. Last but not least the study concludes by bringing forward an evaluation of this approach to the theory of Aristotelian catharsis.

UM SALVE A TODAS AS COMUNIDADES:REPRESENTAÇÕES SOCIAIS SOBRE VIOLÊNCIA DE RAPPERS QUE FREQUENTAM O CREAS II DE LONDRINA-PR

Rosas, Rudy Heitor 24 February 2017 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 Rudy Heitor Rosas.pdf: 3661861 bytes, checksum: 906e5775e702dda91c87441329c5b4c7 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2017-02-24 / The following dissertation is the result of an approximation between rap and violence. The initial spark of the research process was Cultural Criminology which, presenting several researches on rock and violence, showed that would be possible a similar research, but with a more national style. Rap was selected because it is currently the music of a stigmatized part of the population, just as the rockers were. To approach the social, it was defined that the research would ally theoretical knowledge on the central themes (rap and violence), with empirical research, to really approach reality and theory. After some incursions into the research, it was defined that the object of this work would be the social representations of rappers about violence. The selected field was CREAS II of Londrina - Paraná. The venue was chosen for sheltering rap composers who are in a situation of violence, either through committing or through living in areas considered violent. The methodology that guides the whole process is the Case Study, with qualitative approach to the research problem. Participant observation, semi-structured interview and documentary research were selected as collection techniques and Bardin content analysis as a technique for the analysis of collected data. The field research was from April to August of 2016, in addition to other virtual contacts. To support the analysis, some theoretical references were chosen: Norbert Elias, with the concepts of mimesis, sociodynamics of power and relationship between established and outsiders; Serge Moscovici with the Social Representations, thus facilitating a better use of what is shared in the common sense of the rappers; And Slavoj Zizek with his categories of violence. The research made it possible to perceive the violence through the reports and experiences of five interviewed subjects, both in their speeches and in their compositions, which often give vent to subjects that they cannot share in daily life.

As faces da razão: instrução e mimese nas Astronômicas de Manílio / The faces of reason: instruction and mimesis in Manilius Astronomica

Fernandes, Marcelo Vieira 11 June 2012 (has links)
This dissertation intends to examine the relationship between poetic elocution and tech-nical demonstration in Manilius Astronomica. By considering the poem as an opus del-icately interwoven in between two discourse genres, the technical discourse of Hellenis-tic astrology and the poetic one of didactic poetry, I investigate the abovementioned relationship under three points of view: that of the persona doctoris, under which I study the kinds of limitations imposed on the composition of the poets (vates) true utterance; that of the doctrina, under which I present, analyze and interpret numerous cases of variation in poetic expression applied to the didactic exposition of the true astrological matter of numbers, names and rationes; and that of the persona discipuli, under which I consider the problem of the understanding of technical matter and inter-pret it in a broader poetic context. Thus I intend to demonstrate how Manilus poem puts together an essentially poetic and not exclusively technical representation of the astrological ars, and, consequently, point out some meanings in which the non-mimetic poetry of Manilus could be said to be mimetic.
