Salvador

A descriptive inquiry into the educational focus of a nursing college

Mouton, Chautnette 06 1900 (has links)
Text in English / The question the researcher set out to answer during this research study was: "What is the Educational Focus of a Nursing College, when viewed within Bevis and Watson's Humanistic·Educative-Caring Curriculum Paradigm versus a Stimulus-Response Curriculum Paradigm?" To answer this question, an exploratory, descriptive and contextual study was undertaken. The population consisted of tutors employed at a College of Nursing. From this population a purposive sample was drawn. Data was collected by means of formal, semi-structured interviews and a questionnaire. Content analysis was used to analyse the data. It was found that during the first year of students' education and training, the Educational Focus of the College was on training but during the second year, the focus changed to the transitional phase. The transitional phase is situated between training and education. During the third and fourth year, the focus was also in transition, but the way students learn was at the training phase. / Health Studies / M.A. (Advanced Nursing Sciences)

A reference model for the process control domain of application

Dhevcharran, Nirvani 11 1900 (has links)
The process control domain is intrinsically complex and dynamic. It has proved to be difficult to construct and maintain process control systems under the traditional software development methodologies. Object Orientation is the latest paradigm in software development. The reason for its widespread acceptance is that it allows the application of the principles of hierarchical structuring and component abstraction which is essential in building large systems. It also promotes component reusability which makes systems easier to maintain and modify. For the process control domain, these are important benefits. Furthermore, most process control systems have physical devices which can be modeled naturally as objects with the timing and performance issues of each object directly addressed. A Target System Reference Model which addresses various aspects of the process control domain is proposed within this dissertation. The objective is to provide a frame of reference within which a process control system can function. / Computing / M. Sc. (Computer Science)

Prakties-teologiese teorie vir leierskap vanuit 'n kerkgroei perspektief

Basson, Gert Johannes 11 1900 (has links)
Groot 'kerklike grondgebied' is reeds afgestaan. / The church is not experiencing a lot of growth at the moment. A number of congregations have no urge to find the lost ones. Growth is not a priority, due to leaders maintaining instead of expanding the congregation. This philosophy to maintain resulted into an inward practice which contributed to little growth, more seriously even a decline in total membership. The numerous changes experienced by the community at large will also fall the church to victim. The church has lost support simply because of a total lack in the so-called traditional loyalty and support. The church is no more the focus as in the past, it has been side-lined. The church has already lost greatly. Church leaders, as such products of the present day situation in the church, have been part of this culture of non-interest in the growth of the congregation. The typical evangelistic model of shepherd and flock left the ordinary members of the congregation out in the cold. The ministry was the responsibility of the church leaders, however the role of the ordinary members of the congregation is changing as they too are becoming more involved in ministry. Questions such as the following come to the fore: What is the unique role of church leaders going to be in future? Who's going to be responsible for growth inisiatives in the church in future? The problem facing church leaders of the day, is their total lack to meet the challenges and demands. The new evangelistic paradigm especially calls for an outgoing approach. Criticism has been given against the training of leadership but most probably the problem lies within their established mind-set". Globally, congregations which are experiencing large growth, has proved their leaders to play a paramount role in exploiting their growth potential. Such leaders were in the forefront of new leadership exhibiting the same qualities. If the growth of the various congregations is of importance, then the whole issue around leadership will have to be adapted and renewed. This research contains leadership tendencies in general, as well as leadership tendencies in growing congregations. A theory for "growth-leadership" will be developed and presented from this. / Philosophy, Practical and Systematic Theology / Th.D. (Practical theology)

Pafunda, Rosana Akemi. January 2016 (has links)

Episodic processing, among all memory systems, shows to be the most affected along aging. The episodic memory is a subsystem of memory responsible for receiving and storing information about certain episodes or events, temporally dated, high lighting a spatiotemporal relationship between them. One way of assessing this construct would be using behavioral criteria for identifying information about what happening, where and when, which are the basic components of “What-Where-When” paradigm, or else, by proposing to replace the temporal component by context, “What-Where-Which” paradigm. Thus, the objective of this research was to analyze the effect of aging on episodic memory, assessed by two experimental paradigms, to study the correlation of these tests with classic measures of episodic memory. We used a sample with 70 volunteers, divided in two group: younger (N = 35, M = 22,74; SD= 2,99) and older (N = 35, M = 62,54; SD = 4,82) adults. The evaluation protocol was composed of: (i) test based on the paradigm "What-Where-When"; (ii) test based on the paradigm "What-Where-Which"; (iii) classic episodic memory tests; and (iv) a neuropsychological battery, the latter being applied only to the elderly group. The results showed that different episodic memory task apparently measuring something in common. Comparisons between group showed effective impairment associated with aging for all aspects evaluated by the test "What-Where-When", and the integration aspect was the component that suffered the greatest decline associated with age [F(1, 68)= 53,86; p < .001; η² = .442]. Other results showed that Free Recall also presented decline [F(1, 68)= 18,60; p < .001; η² = .215]. However, it was not found significant differences between groups for the task based on the paradigm "What-Where-Which". The findings of this study show that task-based paradigm "What-Where-When" and "What-Where-Which" are promising instruments for measurement of episodic memory. However, apparently the temporal aspect was more sensitive to detect possible changes related to age.

Motivations intrinsèque et extrinsèque des étudiants : une norme générale de motivation dans la représentation sociales des études / Intrinsic and extrinsic motivation of students : a general norm of motivation in the social representation of studies

Levant-Bol, Lydia 21 June 2010 (has links)
This thesis aims to better grasp the reasons why young people engage into Studies. It is based on the relationship between the intellectual and pragmatic purposes of Studies (Tafani & Bellon, 2001) and the intrinsic and extrinsic motivation (Deci & Ryan, 1985, 1991). The results show that students are attracted by both purposes, which are central elements of the social representation of Studies (studies 1 and 2). Inspired by the study of internality, as suggested by François (2004), the use of the paradigm of self-presentation and the paradigm of judges (study 3 and 4, Jellison & Green, 1981) confirms the hypothesis of a general norm of motivation, well balanced between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. The absence of over-valorization of the intrinsic motivation is explained by the social values through the assessment of different types of motivation (study 4). An extrinsically motivated student has as much chance of success as his fellow student who is intrinsically motivated, as shown by the comparison of academic performance and level of motivation expressed (study 5). The latest study confirms the students’ intrinsic and extrinsic aspirations. Highlighting also the importance of time perspective (Forner, 1992), our study has once again demonstrated the stability of the theory of the central core (Abric, 1976, 1987) and its normativity (Moliner, 1995). Beyond the theoretical advances brought forward, this thesis helps addressing issues of educational policy. We share some perspectives with professionals in education and guidance counselling.

Identitetens paradigm : En studie i profilens framväxt och dess användning i sociala medier i det postpolitiska samhället / The paradigms of identity : A study the profile's emergence and its uses in social media in the post-political society

Funcke, Emil January 2021 (has links)
The profile the individual creates on social media can be likened to a digital panopticon. How this profilicity has developed is examined by reviewing seven texts concerning the creation of identity. After this, five paradigms emerge that map how profilicity has developed through history and how the profile has become a digital panopticon in a post-political society. The profile thus becomes a tool for strengthening the hegemony that prevails in society.

Investigating the role of personality on prospective memory performance in young adults using a multi-trait multi-method approach

Talbot, Karley-Dale 31 August 2020 (has links)
Prospective memory (PM) refers to a person’s ability to remember to do something in the future. It is a complex behaviour that is essential for the daily functioning of young and old alike. Despite its importance in everyday life, few studies have sought to examine the role of personality on PM performance using a multi-trait multi-method approach in young adults. The current study aimed to investigate the differential roles of the Big 5 personality traits on event- and time-based PM performance using multiple measurement methods. In addition, the study aimed to add to the current PM and personality literature by addressing several of the identified methodological limitations of the literature as outlined by Uttl and colleagues (2013). Results demonstrated few strong relationships between PM subtypes (event and time-based) performance indicators, though performance on the lab-based event-based PM task was stronger than on the lab-based time-based PM task even after controlling for ongoing task performance. Participants were also found to perform better on lab-based rather than naturalistic PM tasks. Naturalistic and self-report PM measures were significantly related to each other, but not to lab-based PM. Regarding personality, the relationship between specific personality traits and PM performance differed depending on the PM subtype and/or measurement method being investigated with conscientiousness, memory aid strategy use, and substance use engagement being found to best predict self-reported PM errors in daily life. The current study demonstrated that each PM measurement method taps into different aspects of behavioural and cognitive functioning. Without the use of all three measurement methods, whilst also considering the individuality of the client, researchers and clinicians may be doing a disservice to individuals with true PM difficulties as they may overlook important factors contributing to their poorer performance. / Graduate

A study on how the research relates to South Scandinavian rock carving ships and circle motifs

Andersson, Daniel January 2023 (has links)
South Scandinavian rock carvings have been of great interest to archaeology for a long time. Circular motifs and ships are some of the most common motifs and this has resulted in a number of studies being published over the years. Different researchers try to get closer to the carvings on different levels. These are various symbolic inputs, but also the more objective inputs such as dating and distributions. Instead of an in-depth look at the meanings of the rock carvings, this study devotes itself to studying what research looks like in this field. The works of various researchers are presented, which differ in methodologies and theoretical inputs. Some are published at the wrong time, which means that they deviate from the current research trend of their time. The result of it may vary. Some tend to be overshadowed by those who follow the trend, but become relevant after their time. The study thus tries to see what happens with the research that deviates and also what the theoretical inputs are based on.
