1	Bevarandet av bibliotekssamlingar : Samlingsförvaltning på några svenska universitetsbibliotek under 2000-talet / Preserving Library Collections : Collection Management at Some Swedish University Libraries during the 21st Century Harju, Jenna January 2018 (has links) The purpose of this thesis in Library and Information Science (LIS) is to examine how five Swedish university libraries work with collection management using a critical discourse analysis (CDA). University libraries hold large, valuable and often unique materials in the collections. Making decisions on what to preserve has for centuries been a task that libraries have been relied on to perform. The thesis aims to discuss how the university libraries through policy documents work with collection management and preservation of library materials and if there is a need of a national preservation policy. The method used in this thesis is Norman Faircloughs critical discourse analysis (CDA) with its three dimensional analytical framework that focuses on the text, the discourse practice and the social practice. The qualitative methods used are interviews and a textanalysis of policy documents. The result of the analysis revealed that the majority of the libraries lack substantial policies in collection management. The focus has instead been on a more user-oriented approach regarding access and acquisition of library materials. A central conclusion is that there is a need of a national collection policy regarding preservation of library collections. 2	"Eftersom allt är byggt på ideella krafter så gör vi så gott vi kan" : Hembygdsföreningars ideella textilförvaltning / ”We do what we can with what we have” : Local history societies textile management as a voluntary society Åsblom, Anna-Linnéa January 2023 (has links) The main purpose of this study is to examine the interaction between practical textilemanagement and the values setting up the theoretical framework. The practical part is examined through 50 local history societies in Sweden participating in a survey set out to map out the presence, management, and element of advisement regarding the textiles. To make the comparison the concepts of ethical responsibility and symbolic worth are used to iron out where ideal and experience meets. This also raises questions regarding maintaining sustainable management and how societies need and take accept guidance. In general, active textile management is done consistently with object-based research but the knowledge of the societies ethical responsibility differs. The practical handling of textiles is also often affected by a lack of resources and knowledge. Both factors affect the width of the societies work actively with the textiles. In short, this comes with a lot of challenges but also has a lot of possibilities to develop further if the present resources are strengthened or developed. The symbolic worth of textiles, even though mostly connected to their usages, is rated high by the societies in general. Also, the interest in textiles is linked to the presence of active management and withholds a willingness to apply practical management according to the theoretical framework. 3	Valsgärdesamlingen : En undersökning om tingens sociala liv / The Valsgärde collection : A study about the social life of things Samuelsson, Ronja January 2020 (has links) This thesis examines the social life and cultural biography of five objects from the Valsgärde-collection at museum Gustavianum in Uppsala, Sweden. The aim of this study was to research the social life and cultural biography of five objects from the collection and what this means in relation to collections management, authenticity, digitalization and object-love. There is a special focus on authenticity and digitalization throughout the essay. There are mixed methods in the thesis, two interviews, phenomenology and object-based learning. The theoretical frame-work of the thesis were The Social Life of Things as well as authenticity, digitalization and collections management. In the analysis it showed that the social life of things as well as the cultural biography of things is something that is constantly constructed, and will shift and grow throughout time. The analysis also showed that a proper collections management will improve the cultural biography of things, it will also improve a more authentic digitalization. The conclusion of the thesis is that the social life of things is dynamic, even though some information may seem static. A cultural biography is possible to write about objects, however, not only one person can do this since we need academics from different branches to try and understand the objects. It is also important to when possible research the objects with your hands, in order to research one owns feelings. Further research on the topic could be done by more researchers investigating the objects, as well as a combination of testing of the material in order to trace the objects’ cultural biography in the prehistoric age. 4	Smålands nations inspektorsporträtt : en undersökning av samlingens tillstånd och funktion Kronberg, Tove January 2023 (has links) Denna uppsats undersöker hur Smålands studentnation i Uppsala använder och förmedlar sin samling av inspektorsporträtt. Samlingen består av tjugofyra porträtt med motiv utförda i matchande kompositioner. Porträtten undersöks både utifrån sina fysiska och immateriella värden, vilket har varit viktigt för att förstå samlingen som helhet. Samlingens fysiska skick fastslås genom en tillståndsbedömning, vilken visade att majoriteten av porträtten har allvarliga skador i form av revor, sprickor och utbuktningar. Vidare dokumenteras porträttens motiv och historiska bakgrund i en katalog. Dokumenteringen av porträtten visade att det bara var sexton av tjugofyra porträtt som föreställde faktiska inspektorer. De övriga åtta porträtten föreställde istället kända smålänningar och meriterade förebilder. Uppsatsen har vidare undersökt samlingen som ett kommunikationsverktyg mellan nationen och dess besökare, vilket visade att inspektorsporträtten kommunicerade budskap om makt och identitet genom utvalda symboler, attribut och kompositioner. / This essay examines how the studentnation Smålands nation in Uppsals uses and conveys it’s collection of inspector portraits. The collection consists of twentyfour portraits with matching motives,. The portraits are examined based on both their physical and immaterial values, which has been important to understand the portraits as a collection. The physical condition of the collection was determined through a condition assessment, which showed that a majority of the portraits have serious damages in the form of tears, cracks and bulges. The motifs and historical backgrounds have been cataloged due to a stocktaking., wich showed that only sixteen portraits actually depicted inspectors. The other eight portraits depicted instead well-known Småland-residents and meritorius role models. The essay also examined the collection as a tool for communication between the nation and it’s visitors, showing that the inspector portraits communicated messages of power and identity through well-selected symbols, attributes and compositions.
