Physical education and school sport within the post-apartheid educational dispensation of South Africa

This study theoretically presupposes that the individual is an integral entity, therefore, education should take place according to the harmonious development of all the facets of a child's being. Even in antiquity, physical education and sport were seen to be important for a balanced education. Every society implements physical education and sport according to own needs and requirements, according certain values to sport, which values are reviewed in this study. A literature study corroborates that the intellectual, physical and social development of the child undoubtedly forms part of the total environment of the educative process. Exclusion of any facet could cause an imbalance in the development of the child. Incorporation of physical education and sport in the post-apartheid educational dispensation of South Africa forms the later part of the investigation. Various factors in South Africa have an influence on the role and place of physical education and sport within the curriculum. Government involvement in sport can determine the place of sport in society and in the curriculum. The readmittance of South Africa into international participation and changes in the political policy also play a role. These factors pose the challenge and facilitate the possibility to reinstate physical education and sport at schools. The structure of South African sport is undergoing a total change and the role players in the sports fraternity are now faced with numerous challenges and opportunities. Reinstating physical education and sport in the school curriculum serves a vital role in the reconstruction and development of a healthy and well-balanced society. Furthermore, reinstatement could reverse the consequences of social and economic injustices. Research undertaken in Australia, also provides some answers to problems for the South African situation. It proposes new initiatives that could be of help to the relevant role players in the planning of physical education and school sport in the post­ apartheid educational dispensation of South Africa. / Educational Studies / D. 臺灣升大學重考生的自我評價與情緒困擾 / The self-evaluation and emotional disturbance of college entrance examination retakers in Taiwan

本研究的主要目的在試圖提出一個架構,說明臺灣升大學重考生的情緒困擾問題,並描述出在此問題上,社會教化內容可能扮演的角色。經由文獻探討自我信念與情緒困擾間的關連,以及社會文化對個人情緒困擾的可能影響方式,研究者提出了「情緒困擾之整合性概念架構」作為說明重考生情緒困擾問題的起點,此架構主張:覺察自我落差導致了人們的情緒痛苦,而社會價值觀念不但形塑了人們的外在評價壓力,社會教化的內容也會經由影響個人的自我信念(含導引自我標準、預期自我信念及實際自我信念),對人們的情緒與行為產生重要的影響。 本研究的主要研究對象為:台北市某著名升大學補習班的197位重考生,其中121位為高中升大學重考生,其餘76位為高職升大學重考生。研究的工具除了Rosenberg自尊量表(RSE)、貝氏憂鬱量表(BDI)以及症狀檢核表焦慮分量表(SCL-A)外,還包括自行編製的「自我期許問卷」(可得到受測者所填寫的導引自我標準,以及他在這些標準上自評的各項自我落差量及落差覺察頻率),以及課業自我落差評量。 實徵研究的方法和結果可分為幾個部分,分別說明臺灣升大學重考生情緒困擾問題的不同面向: (一) 在情緒困擾相關評量上,對重考生及其他同齡學生(高三學生和大一學生)的狀況進行調查與比較,以巨觀描繪出臺灣升大學重考生的情緒困擾問題。研究結果發現:重考生較其他同齡學生具有更高的憂鬱和焦慮,而在自我落差評量方面,他們具有較高的自我落差覺察頻率,以及較大的課業自我落差量。 (二) 以大學生及重考生樣本,實徵檢驗自我落差量及其覺察頻率是否能有效預測人們的情緒困擾狀況,以瞭解本研究所提出來的概念架構是否可以用來說明臺灣學生的情緒困擾問題。研究結果顯示:學生的自尊、憂鬱以及焦慮都可以由一些自我落差評量有效解釋,然而由於重考生所具有的一些特質,使得自我落差評量對於重考生組內差異的解釋力多數比它們在大一樣本中為。 (三) 對高中升大學重考生的導引自我標準進行內容分析,以檢視社會教化內容與個人導引自我標準間的關連。由內容分析的結果可以發現:重考生的導引自我標準受到社會教化內容很大的影響(特別是升學觀念的社會教化),因此重考生的導引自我標準並不是散亂地分佈,絕大多數的項目可群集為二十一個類目,至於其餘的項目則是少見且較不具重要性的。 (四) 依據前述內容分析的結果,分析升學在臺灣社會中可能具有的社會心理意涵,並探索性地描繪重考生的心理處境。由內容分析發現:重考生的導引 自我標準包含很多與升學有關的價值觀(至少佔 46 %),由於這些價值觀在重考生群體中的普遍性與重要性,本研究將它們統合成一個整體結構,推論出升學在臺灣社會中可能具有的六種社會心理意涵:(1)「受高等教育,以取得謀職、營生的優勢」;(2)「具有豐富的學識,前途看好」;(3)「享受自 由學風,拓展自我潛能」;(4)「表現出眾,讓人看得起」;(5)「善盡本分,能榮顯父母師長」;(6)「戰勝自己,達成對自己的期許」。 在上述的整體結構中,由於「順利升學,取得文憑」居於最為核心的地位,因此重考生對於自我的評價普遍會受到他們對自己升學表現的預期很大的影響。「升學在臺灣社會中可能具有的社會心理意涵」與「個別重考生的心理處境」兩者之間的關係,彷彿就是「完整的圖像」與「殘缺的圖像複製品」兩者之間的關係,儘管複製不可能完美,使得後者在顏色上可能會比原圖較像 濃或是較淡,在色調上可能會比原圖像較為明朗或是更為陰鬱,然而,它們之間的共同點是,後者都可以在前者上面找到它相對應的部分(但僅為圖像的局部),使得個別重考生的心理處境與集體的社會升學觀念間,即使存在著許多表象的差異,但它們之間至少仍保有一種「理解的可滲透性」。 最後,本研究除了根據研究所得的結果,說明研究結果的意義並提出一些後續研究建議外,也討論了臺灣的升學主義解構運動,主張欲有效解決升學主義下臺灣的教育問題,需經歷一種「進步的問題轉換」,方能有效突破臺灣在教育改革中所面臨到的瓶頸。

Enjeux et pratiques de la recherche médicale transnationale en Afrique : analyse anthropologique d'un centre de recherche clinique sur le VIH à Dakar (Sénégal)

Enjeux et pratiques de la recherche médicale transnationale en Afrique. Analyse anthropologique d’un centre de recherche clinique sur le VIH à Dakar (Sénégal). Les conditions de faisabilité des recherches cliniques conduites en Afrique (standard de soins, information et niveau de compréhension des participants potentiels, bénéfices de la recherche pour la population, etc.) font l’objet de débats jusqu’à présent limités aux aspects médicaux ou éthiques. Cette thèse apporte un autre éclairage en analysant ces recherches cliniques comme des objets sociaux complexes, supports de représentations socio-culturelles, de normes et d’enjeux (locaux et internationaux). Fondée sur une enquête ethnographique de 20 mois à Dakar (Sénégal), cette thèse documente les conditions de réalisation de l’expérimentation clinique et plus précisément de la recherche sur l’infection à VIH. Pour ce faire, ce travail décrit la mise en place d’un centre dédié à l’accueil et à la réalisation de dispositifs de recherche clinique sur le VIH (le CRCF) et analyse les « cultures organisationnelles » de cinq études cliniques réparties dans trois structures de santé et / ou de recherche. Cette étude permet d’une part, de comprendre les logiques des acteurs impliqués sur le terrain de la recherche clinique VIH au Sénégal ; d’autre part, de restituer le « cadre de la pratique » des projets de recherche (coopération scientifique Nord-Sud, professionnalisation des acteurs de santé locaux aux « métiers de la recherche clinique », application des procédures standard internationales, mise en place d’un environnement éthique, place des PvVIH dans le processus de recherche clinique, etc.). Enfin, la thèse montre la constitution d’une recherche médicale publique et transnationale dans le champ du VIH au Sénégal ainsi que ses spécificités / Issues and Practices of transnational medical research in Africa Anthropological analysis of a clinical research center on HIV in Dakar (Senegal). The feasibility of clinical researches conducted in Africa (standard of care, information and participants' understanding, benefits for the population, and so on...) has been debated but narrowed to medical or ethical aspects until now. This thesis gives another point of view to this debate, showing clinical trials as complex social objects, medium of socio-cultural representations, norms and stakes (both local and international).Based on a 20 months ethnographic study in Dakar (Senegal), this thesis documents the conditions in which clinical experimentation is being conducted and more specifically HIV research. To achieve this, this work describes the establishment of a center dedicated to the reception and the realization of clinical research on HIV (CRCF) and analyzes the « organizational cultures » of five clinical studies spreaded in three different health care or research facilities.This study allows on the one hand, to understand the logic of the actors involved in HIV clinical research in Senegal and on the other hand, to account for the "practice framework” of research projects (North-South scientific cooperation, professionalization of local health actors towards "professions of clinical research", the application of international standard procedures, the set up of an ethical environment, the role of PLWHA in clinical research process, etc..). Finally, the thesis shows the construction of a public and transnational medical research concerning HIV in Senegal both with its specificities

We chose the Brazilian seeds sector as the locus of investigation. In order to explain catching up and industrial leadership, as suggested by the authors, we confront changes at the global level and windows of opportunities that emerged with responses from the main company of the sector - Embrapa. In our empirical study, we made use of in-depth interviews with historical and longitudinal analysis. We found evidence that changes in key dimensions alter in importance over time, but that institutions/public policy seem to be the forces that most contribute to strong dominance of transnational companies nowadays. Moreover, differently than suggested by some authors (although they are mainly focused in the Argentinean seeds sector), we find evidence that transnational companies – particularly the Gene Giants – do are driven the process of seeds innovation in the industry. In addition, the highest amount of launching of new varieties each year is not synonymous of more (or bigger) innovation; dominant positions in the market is not directly associated with higher levels of technological innovation. In fact, market innovation – e. g., commercial approach of transnational companies, which includes financing of producers and sales distribution - seems to be, at least, as relevant as technological innovation in the setting of seeds industry. / Esse estudo busca investigar a teoria de ciclos de 'catch-up' no contexto de países em desenvolvimento. O setor de sementes agrícolas brasileiro foi escolhido como locus de investigação. A fim de explicar catching up e lideranças na indústria, foram confrontadas mudanças e janelas de oportunidades ocorridas no nível global com as respostas da principal empresa do setor – Embrapa. No estudo empírico, fizemos uso de entrevistas em profundidade e análise histórica e longitudinal. Foram encontradas evidências de que mudanças em dimensões-chave alteram em importância ao longo do tempo, mas que instituições/políticas públicas parecem ser as forças que mais tem contribuído para a forte dominância das empresas transnacionais atualmente. Além disso, diferentemente do que tem sido sugerido por alguns autores (embora eles estivessem focados principalmente no setor de sementes da Argentina), encontramos evidências de que as empresas transnacionais - em particular as 'Gene Giants' - realmente tem direcionado o processo de inovação na indústria de sementes. Além disso, a maior quantidade de lançamento de novas variedades a cada ano não é sinónimo de mais (ou de maior) inovação; posições dominantes no mercado também não estão diretamente associadas a níveis mais elevados de inovação tecnológica. Na verdade, a inovação no mercado - e. g, abordagem comercial das empresas transnacionais, o que inclui o financiamento de produtores e de distribuição de vendas - parecem ser, pelo menos, tão relevantes quanto a inovação tecnológica no cenário da indústria de sementes. RESUMO 2 - UNDERSTANDING THE DYNAMICS OF NETWORK STRUCTURES: ALLYING THE GROUNDED-THEORY TO SOCIAL NETWORK APPROACH APPLIED TO THE BRAZILIAN SEEDS SECTOR O objetivo deste trabalho é lançar luz sobre uma lacuna previamente identificada em Powell et al. (2005) e posteriormente explorada em Ahuja, Soda e Zaheer (2012): a compreensão das origens e evolução das estruturas de rede intensivas em conhecimento; em outras palavras, seu dinamismo. Especificamente, essa pesquisa examinou como e por que redes centradas em uma empresa pública de P&D de um país em desenvolvimento têm evoluído para assumir as formas que elas possuem. No processo de examinar a questão de pesquisa, especial atenção foi dada para as várias razões pelas quais os setores público e privado buscam estabelecer parcerias. O contexto empírico escolhido foi o setor de sementes agrícolas do Brasil, mas nos focamos especificamente no programa de melhoramento de soja da Embrapa, a principal empresa representativa do setor. A lógica subjacente utilizada para desenvolver nosso arcabouço teórico foi a 'grounded theory'. O desenho de pesquisa é um estudo de caso único longitudinal, estudo indutivo, mas também foi feito uso da abordagem de rede social. Com base nos achados de pesquisa, nós desenvolvemos um arcabouço teórico para compreender o dinamismo das redes. Nós constatamos diferentes interesses entre as empresas, que mudaram ao longo do tempo, e diferentes efeitos para cada tipo de rede. Além disso, foi confirmada a crescente relevância da interação entre atores organizacionais e importantes 'trade-offs' entre organizações públicas e privadas. RESUMO 3 - TECHNOLOGICAL TRAJECTORY OF EMBRAPA AND THE CONQUEST OF CERRADO Apesar da existência de inúmeros estudos dedicados a investigar a trajetória tecnológica das empresas, pouca atenção tem sido dada a algumas características dessa trajetória. Como exemplo, podem ser citados o tempo que as empresas levam para avançar tecnologicamente e a influência de fatores, tais como as redes de conhecimento e mecanismos de aprendizagem na capacidade tecnológica das firmas. Na verdade, a relação redes-capacidades é considerada por muitos autores uma das mais importantes interações, que tem sido negligenciada. Esse artigo busca minimizar esses 'gaps' na literatura. Especificamente, nós examinamos a trajetória tecnológica da principal empresa brasileira do setor de sementes agrícolas – Embrapa – incluindo o tempo para avançar tecnologicamente e a relação redes de conhecimento-capacidades tecnológicas. No processo de examinar a trajetória tecnológica da Embrapa, nós examinamos como a Embrapa conquistou o Cerrado e mensuramos alguns importantes resultados de inovações tecnológicas – produção e exportação. Por meio de um estudo de caso longitudinal, nós concluímos que a Embrapa adotou diferentes trajetórias ao longo do tempo. Inicialmente a empresa adotou a trajetória 'path-following', em seguida a trajetória 'path-skipping' e, posteriormente, a trajetória 'path-creating'. A Embrapa também mudou seus parceiros ao longo do tempo (ou eles tiveram seus papeis adaptados às condições da época). Com a ajuda de parceiros, a Embrapa foi capaz de rapidamente alcançar o nível de liderança mundial. Ademais, indicadores de produção e exportação provaram ser relevantes para mensurar resultados de esforços de inovação.

El emprendimiento social como motor de desarrollo sostenible: propuesta de un modelo para fortalecer la gestión del impacto social en los grupos de interés

[ES] El emprendimiento social, entendido como aquella iniciativa, organización o proyecto con una misión exclusivamente social, nace como respuesta a determinadas necesidades de una colectividad que no han sido debidamente atendidas por el Estado. Estas entidades poseen un gran potencial para contribuir al desarrollo humano y sostenible de las localidades y regiones, puesto que todos sus esfuerzos van orientados a propiciar el bienestar de diversos grupos poblacionales en aspectos como la educación, la salud, el empleo, el medio ambiente y la inclusión, entre otros. La creación y maximización del valor social representa el más alto objetivo de cualquier emprendimiento social y, a diferencia de la empresa convencional, la generación de beneficios económicos es considerada como un medio y no como un fin per se. Para lograr el deseado impacto social, los citados emprendimientos deben trabajar por superar la barrera del acceso al capital y, además, por mejorar sus procesos de gestión organizacional que, generalmente, evidencian debilidades como la falta de focalización estratégica; los inadecuados métodos de planificación y control; y las escasas herramientas para el monitoreo y valoración del impacto. Ante estos desafíos, se considera necesario proponer a los emprendedores, líderes y gestores, nuevas metodologías e instrumentos que permitan la creación y fortalecimiento de las capacidades organizacionales para la generación de valor en los grupos de interés. Por tanto, el objetivo de esta tesis doctoral se centró en el diseño de un modelo de gestión que pudiera guiar y soportar la tarea de planificación, seguimiento y evaluación del impacto social de los emprendimientos que trabajan en pro de la inclusión socio-laboral. Este trabajo empírico se desarrolló por medio de tres etapas. En la primera, se construyó un esquema inicial base del modelo, el cual incluyó un conjunto de elementos estratégicos mínimos que deberían ser considerados por las organizaciones sociales para asegurar la creación de valor en los públicos atendidos y demás grupo de interés. Dentro de esta fase, se tomó como principal referente un reconocido enfoque de planificación y control organizacional (el mapa estratégico) y, adicionalmente, se extrajeron aportaciones de diversos estándares de Responsabilidad Social Empresarial (RSE), teorías de desarrollo y lineamientos estratégicos de dos organizaciones valencianas que trabajan en el campo de la inclusión laboral. En la segunda etapa, por medio de un estudio de caso, se exploró en dos emprendimientos de inclusión socio-laboral sobre las estrategias, metodologías y prácticas que estos utilizan para cumplir con su respectiva misión social. Asimismo, se pretendió determinar, como dichas estrategias, respondían a las principales demandas y expectativas de valor de los más relevantes grupos de interés. Finalmente, en la etapa tres, se consolidó la propuesta del modelo con base a los resultados obtenidos en las fases previas. Como resultado principal de este estudio, se destaca entonces la propuesta de un modelo de gestión basado en un mapa estratégico, el cual sugiere un conjunto de 29 buenas prácticas potencialmente aplicables a cualquier organización de inclusión socio-laboral. Este esquema pretende ser una guía, flexible y adaptable, para los gestores de los emprendimientos, a fin de que estos puedan fortalecer su capacidad para la toma de decisiones orientadas a maximizar el valor social y, por tanto, a incrementar su aporte al desarrollo sostenible de las comunidades atendidas. / [CA] L'emprenedoria social, entesa com aquella iniciativa, organització o projecte amb una missió exclusivament social, naix com a resposta a determinades necessitats d'una col·lectivitat que no han sigut degudament ateses per l'Estat. Aquestes entitats posseeixen un gran potencial per a contribuir al desenvolupament humà i sostenible de les localitats i regions, ja que tots els seus esforços van orientats a propiciar el benestar de diversos grups poblacionals en aspectes com l'educació, la salut, l'ocupació, el medi ambient i la inclusió, entre altres. La creació i maximització del valor social representa el més alt objectiu de qualsevol emprenedoria social i, a diferència de l'empresa convencional, la generació de beneficis econòmics és considerada com a mitjà i no com un fi per se. Per a aconseguir el desitjat impacte social, les citades emprenedories han de treballar per superar la barrera de l'accés al capital i, a més, per millorar els seus processos de gestió organitzacional que, generalment, evidencien febleses com la falta de focalització estratègica; els inadequats mètodes de planificació i control; i les escasses eines per al monitoratge i valoració de l'impacte. Davant aquests desafiaments, es considera necessari proposar als emprenedors, líders i gestors, noves metodologies i instruments que permeten la creació i enfortiment de les capacitats organitzacionals per a la generació de valor en els grups d'interés. Per tant, l'objectiu d'aquesta aquesta tesi doctoral es va centrar en el disseny d'un model de gestió que poguera guiar i suportar la tasca de planificació, seguiment i avaluació de l'impacte social de les emprenedories que treballen en pro de la inclusió soci-laboral. Aquest treball empíric es va desenvolupar per mitjà de tres etapes. En la primera, es va construir un esquema inicial base del model, el qual va incloure un conjunt d'elements estratègics mínims que haurien de ser considerats per les organitzacions socials per a assegurar la creació de valor en els públics atesos i altre grup d'interés. Dins d'aquesta fase, es va prendre com a principal referent un reconegut enfocament de planificació i control organitzacional (el mapa estratègic) i, addicionalment, es van extraure aportacions de diversos estàndards de Responsabilitat Social Empresarial (RSE), teories de desenvolupament i lineaments estratègics de dues organitzacions valencianes que treballen en el camp de la inclusió laboral. En la segona etapa, per mitjà d'un estudi de cas, es va explorar en dues emprenedories d'inclusió soci-laboral sobre les estratègies, metodologies i pràctiques que aquests utilitzen per a complir amb la seua respectiva missió social. Així mateix, es va pretendre determinar com aquestes estratègies responien a les principals demandes i expectatives de valor dels més rellevants grups d'interés. Finalment, en l'etapa tres, es va consolidar la proposta del model amb base als resultats obtinguts en les fases prèvies. Com a resultat principal d'aquest estudi, es destaca llavors la proposta d'un model de gestió basat en un mapa estratègic, el qual suggereix un conjunt de 29 bones pràctiques potencialment aplicables a qualsevol organització d'inclusió soci-laboral. Aquest esquema pretén ser una guia, flexible i adaptable, per als gestors de les emprenedories, a fi que aquests puguen enfortir la seua capacitat per a la presa de decisions orientades a maximitzar el valor social i, per tant, a incrementar la seua aportació al desenvolupament sostenible de les comunitats ateses. / [EN] Social entrepreneurship, understood as an initiative, organization or project with an exclusively social mission, arises as a response to certain needs of a community that have not been duly attended by the State. These entities have great potential to contribute to the human and sustainable development of localities and regions, since all their efforts are aimed at promoting well-being of various population groups in aspects such as education, health, employment, environment and inclusion, among others. Creation and maximization of social value represents the highest objective of any social enterprise and, unlike conventional companies, economic benefits are considered a mean and not an end per se. In order to achieve the desired social impact, the aforementioned undertakings must work to overcome barriers of access to capital and, in addition, to improve their organizational management processes that, generally, show weaknesses such as lack of strategic focus; inadequate planning and control methods; and few tools for impact monitoring and assessment. Faced with these challenges, it is considered necessary to propose to entrepreneurs, leaders and managers, new methodologies and instruments that allow to build and strengthen organizational capacities in order to create value in the stakeholders. Therefore, the objective of this doctoral thesis was focused on the design of a management model that could guide and support the tasks of planning, monitoring and evaluating social impact of enterprises that work towards social and labor inclusion. This empirical work was developed in three stages. First, an initial base scheme of the model was built, which included a set of minimum strategic elements that should be considered by social organizations to ensure the creation of value for the public serviced and other stakeholders. Within this phase, a recognized organizational planning and control approach (the strategic map) was taken as the main reference and, additionally, contributions were extracted from various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) standards, development theories and strategic guidelines of two Valencian organizations who work in the field of labor inclusion. In the second stage, through a case study in two social-labor inclusion enterprises, strategies, methodologies and practices used to fulfill their respective social mission were explored. Likewise, it was intended to determine how these strategies responded to the main demands and value expectations of the most relevant stakeholders. Finally, in stage three, the model proposal was consolidated based on the results obtained in the previous phases. As the main result of this study, the proposal of a management model based on a strategic map is highlighted, which suggests a set of 29 good practices potentially applicable to any social-labor inclusion organization. This scheme is intended to be a flexible and adaptable guide for enterprises managers, in order to strengthen their decision-making capacity aimed at maximizing the social value and, therefore, to increase their contribution to sustainable development of the communities serviced. / Murillo Pérez, LM. Den ökade närvaron på digitala plattformar har gett konsumenter möjligheten till ökat inflytande och påverkan längs hela värdekedjan. Genom att konsumera, bidra och skapa innehåll på digitala plattformar är User Generated Content (UGC) ett verktyg för användare att vara delaktiga i värdeskapandeprocessen. Genom teorier som den tjänstedominanta logiken med samskapande av värde som central del, upplevt värde, konsumtion, bidragande och skapande har tre hypoteser utformats. Utformningen gjordes för att mäta och undersöka hur upplevt värde vid konsumtion av UGC i form av funktionellt, socialt och emotionellt värde, påverkar användares tendenser att ytterligare konsumera, bidra och skapa UGC. Hypoteserna undersöktes genom korrelations- och regressionsanalyser med data från en enkätundersökning bestående av 95 respondenter. Resultatet av studien tyder på positiva samband mellan upplevt värde av UGC och ytterligare konsumtion, bidragande och skapande av UGC med undantag från upplevt funktionellt värde i relation till bidragande och skapande. / The increased presence on digital platforms has given consumers the opportunity for more significant influence and impact along the entire value chain. By consuming, contributing, and creating content on digital platforms, User Generated Content (UGC) is a tool for users to be involved in the value-creation process. Through theories such as the service-dominant logic with co-creation of value as a central element, perceived value, consumption, contribution, and creation, three hypotheses have been formulated. The design was made to measure and investigate how perceived value when consuming UGC in terms of functional, social, and emotional value, influences users' tendencies to further consume, contribute and create UGC. The hypotheses were investigated through correlation and regression analyses using data from a survey of 95 respondents. The results of the study suggest positive correlations between the perceived value of UGC and further consumption, contribution, and creation of UGC with the exception of perceived functional value in relation to contribution and creation.
