Previous issue date: 2014-04-01 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This research aims to analyze the socio-educational work of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in the city of São Paulo with young people between 15 and 24 years. Conducted to collect information in the websites of selected organizations (objectives , operating areas, action proposals and funding source) , on the Map of Social Exclusion and the Map of Youth, both of the city of São Paulo (territorial organization of the city , district division as infrastructure offered to the population and distribution of the youth population trough the municipality). Regarding the theoretical framework, was sought one that would allow reflection on the formative character of socioeducation and on violence and inequality that characterizes Brazilian society , and that can be considered traces of the barbarism still present, as well as that would allow the understanding of implications of the work done by NGOs in the formation of youth. Thus, from an examination of the action proposals developed by these NGOs , and with reference to the reflection that the authors of Critical Theory do about the technology-based society of late capitalism , the objective is to understand the relationship between youth formation and the care offered in socioeducation, to the poor young residents in the city of São Paulo. The data analysis supports the conclusion that the socioeducation proposals described by NGOs in their electronic sites indicate that such proposals have the central objective the conformation of such youth in moral norms and social rules of bourgeois and industrial society, defining for them the role of youth workers / Esta pesquisa tem por objetivo analisar o trabalho socioeducativo realizado por Organizações Não Governamentais (ONGs) na cidade de São Paulo com jovens entre 15 e 24 anos.

Young people, enterprise and social capitalAllison, Marion January 2017 (has links)
In Scotland, current policy aims to produce work ready young people with relevant enterprise and employment skills. However, many are caught in a repetitive cycle of short term work placements with large numbers of young people still not at work or in education. Accordingly, this study was concerned with social capital in respect of young people’s outcomes from engaging with a youth work project, that was designed to encourage enterprise and employability skills. Using qualitative data drawn from a single site case study, this research develops an understanding of the extent to which different forms of social capital influenced young people’s outcomes. The thesis sets out a theoretical position that draws from Archer’s understanding of critical realism and social capital theory based on the works of Putnam, Coleman and Bourdieu. This approach suggests that the complex interactions between social structures, identities, material resources and cultural forms, enable or inhibit the emergence of social capital practices. An action research approach was applied and empirical work was based on observations and reflections of young people participating in an enterprise challenge. Data were collected via questionnaires, professional discussions and the observations and analysis of relevant documents. Overall findings illustrate the emergence of bonding, bridging and linking social capital in addition to identity, economic and cultural capital developments. However, changes within social structure were the hardest to detect. Whilst there are indicators of young people’s improved outcomes, findings suggest that conditioned socio-cultural stereotypes in respect of gender and class may be limiting opportunities. Shared reflexive practices and linking social capital may however provide opportunities to disrupt, and create new pathways, but should be treated with caution. Youth workers can develop and extend the reach of young people’s social capital practices and the thesis concludes by presenting a set of general recommendations that might serve to facilitate change.

How to represent the deprived estates ? : a socio-history of electoral and partisan commitment in a communist suburban cityHadj Belgacem, Samir 13 November 2015 (has links)
At the intersection of social history of local power, ethnography of electoral canvassing, and sociology of spokespersons, this thesis focuses on the study of the conditions of the electoral representation of the inhabitants of deprived estates in a former communist local council in the suburbs of Paris. It deals with the process of developing spokespeople and their access to the local power. The survey is based on thorough research, which included interviews with people from a wide variety of political backgrounds, direct observations, and the analysis of archives for study of relative statistics. Thisthesis shows that the poor representation of spokespeople from deprived estates among the elected members of the local councils isn’t so much linked to a lack of vocation as to a lack of prospects in a closed electoral market and in a context of devaluation of partisan commitment. The first part of this thesis accounts for the decline in the working class pattern of representation among the popular classes and the widening of the social gap between the elected members of the municipal left and the minority groups from the popular classes. The second part explains how the roles of community workers are becoming a route for spokespeople and providing an alternative pattern for activists, to guide theworking class youth into the new political arena which focuses on the struggles in the area of local power. Finally, the third part considers the process of bringing a range of conflicts into the electoral landscape. The recruitment in the elections of the youth workers from deprived estates goes through several stages, ranging from attempts to form an alliance with the municipal left to a process of partisan competition, then opposition.

The school division of work : segmentation, solidarity and inequalities within the contemporary primary schoolNetter, Julien 24 November 2015 (has links)
This thesis is based on a sociological survey with an ethnological methodology carried out within a sample of seven Parisian primary schools socially diversified. It aims at explaining the persistence of a social reproduction scheme in spite of numerous changes that occurred in primary schools since the 50’s. School is indeed now « open » to heterogeneous activities taken in charge by various stakeholders sometimes led by different logics. The concept of “transparent curriculum” is brought up to sustain the analysis. It refers to the way this “mosaic school” expects children to convert the prescriptions into activities. At this point, two processes are at stake: first is the synthesis of heterogeneous experiences that allows children to take benefit of an activity performed within very different contexts. Other consists in translating one logic into another, thus enabling the comparison between these activities. On the one hand, some children manage to perceive the discipline’s roots of thematic projects or the hidden knowledge at work in recreational activities, thus generating a “solidarity” that makes sense in the school division of work. On the other hand, other children keep the different logics apart, tending to focus, in the classroom, on tasks rather than on activities and acting as if there were no scholar benefit to be taken from the activities outside the classroom. The thesis thus gives a picture of a school which, in spite of its official will, gives up with part of the children, keeping up the contemporary risk of a social cohesion breakdown.

The experience of three female mental health clinicians coping with work related stress in treating traumatized childrenPegel, Rochelle 08 November 2002 (has links)
This study was inspired by the desire to understand the experience of mental
health clinicians coping with work related stress in treating traumatized children. In
studying this experience, heuristic design and methodology was followed. The findings
of this study are based on interviews of 3 Caucasian, female clinicians, a 49-year-old art
therapist with eight years experience, a 61-year-old licensed clinical social worker with
34 years of postgraduate experience, and a 44-year-old licensed clinical social worker
with 21 years of experience. Mental health practitioners, clinical supervisors and
consultants as well as professionals in counselor education benefit from the findings of
this study that extends knowledge of effective coping with work related stress in treating
traumatized children. Participants in this study coped by using the following core
characteristics the most often: seeking emotional and instrumental support from others,
maintaining balance in work and private life, staying spiritually oriented, participating in
leisure activities, focusing on health and using cognitive restructuring techniques. The
least mentioned was the use of humor. Four themes permeated the experience of these
clinicians: (1) Maintaining Balance: Coping included maintaining a balance in work and
private life; (2) Healthy Personal Identity: Coping successfully meant keeping the
career as work and not a definition of the self; (3) Clear Role Definition: Coping to
continue the work included increased focus on professional and personal boundaries and
the role of the clinician; (4) Realistic Control: Successful coping included differentiating
between what can and can't be controlled. This study also found that part of coping with
work-related stress meant moving from the public sector into private enterprise. In
private practice, participants found that coping with stress improved with the decrease of
high client caseload requirements and the ability to screen potential clientele for the
purpose of creating a balance in treatment issues. Overall, this study found that the
experience of coping successfully with work-related stress had a great deal to do with
increased professional autonomy. / Graduation date: 2003

Text in Afrikaans / The background for this study is a survey undertaken by a cluster of congregations in the Wonderboom area of Pretoria, which revealed that their youth ministries are becoming increasingly ineffective. This worldwide trend is related to the reality that traditional program-based approaches to youth ministry not longer reach modern young people.
This study proposes that a choice be made for a relationship based youth ministry that focuses on the communication of faith through the building of relationships of trust between adult mentors and the youth. Churches and the youth would benefit from choosing a relationship-based youth ministry.
A relational approach demands enough volunteer youth workers who are qualified to work with contemporary adolescents. The study therefore proposes guidelines for the recruitment, selection, training and utilisation of volunteer youth workers, as well as for the implementation of a relational youth ministry in the Dutch Reformed Church.
Philosophy, Practical and Systematic Theology / M. A community-based model of supervision for child and youth care workers employed in the Isibindi model of care in South AfricaScott, Kathleen June 11 1900 (has links)
South African child and youth care programmes have been challenged to transform to address the needs of vulnerable and/or orphaned young people affected and/or infected by HIV/AIDS. The Isibindi programme was designed by the National Association of Child Care Workers to respond to this challenge to provide viable community child and youth care programmes.
Supervision of staff plays a critical part in child and youth care programmes. This study explores the model of supervision being implemented in the Isibindi programme, identifies the elements of this model and stipulates which of these need to be strengthened for effective and efficient services.
The research findings indicate that the Isibindi model of supervision reflects the practice of child and youth care services being delivered in the programme. Common child and youth care elements were identified as being essential to the efficient delivery of this model of supervision. / Health Studies / (M. Tech. (Child and Youth Care))

da desvalorização do trabalho doméstico. (DUPAS, 1999, BUARQUE,1999,
PERROT, 2007, SAFFIOTI, 1981, SCOTT, 1995, BARBIERE, 1992, MELO, 1998,
HAHNER, 1978).

The research aims to understand the impact of education for work in the constitution of young people and their working condition. For that analyzes the training offered by SENAI for young workers in the unit of the German company Mercedes-Benz in Juiz de Fora. The relationship between education and work has been affected by major economic and social transformations of the 1990s. Education came to be perceived as a privileged mechanism of ascent and insertion in the labor market. It is at this conjuncture that the young people from the working class build their life strategies. The education for work has become an area of ideological dispute: on the one hand, the progressive forces have formulated an education project together with the workers, which was defeated by the FHC government; on the other hand, the education project built in consonance with the interests of the capital and the market, in order to conciliate the education with the process of neoliberal adjustment. It is in the education for work space, hegemony by the capital, that young workers are formed. And in the relation with a survivor trade union action, they seek to establish linkages with their class condition. The research aims to show the strength of this education for work project in setting the subjectivity of young people, when they build their links with the working class, which reshapes in a scenario of reorganization of the working world.
