A qualitative study about collaboration between librarians and nurses in the supplying of consumer health information (CHI) at The Hospital Library of The Mölndal Hospital in Mölndalnear Gothenburg, Sweden.The staff were interviewed about how their work is affected by the collaboration between thetwo occupational groups. The purpose of the study is to find out if there exists a strugglebetween the groups about the influence on and the control over the handling of this kind ofinformation. Despite some problems with the permission to do as many interviews as needed,the study shows some positive effects with the collaboration. The study gives a short backgroundto the development of CHI services in USA, the UK, Denmark and Sweden. Fourfurther CHI service centres in Sweden are shortly presented and one member of each staffwas interviewed by telephone.

The aim of this Master’s thesis is to examine how librarians talk about users in social media. Using a method of discourse analysis based on Ernesto Laclau’s and Chantal Mouffe’s theoretical concepts it seeks to answer the following questions: How do librarians describe and comment on users in social media? In which contexts do librarians talk about users in social media? Which ideas of the relationship between the librarians and the users do the user discourses present?The study focuses on a Facebook page called “Arga Bibliotekstanten” (The Angry Library Lady) and all its posts and comments during the period of January to June 2013. This is an “open” page available for anyone to follow; at the time of the study it had approximately 1800 “followers” and 4000 “friends”, both librarians and users.The results show that librarians talk about the users in a variety of ways, but mainly concerning money, behavior and task. There is a high tolerance for negative comments about users on the page, and the dominating discourse is that of the user as a problem. In combination with the other two discourses found: the user as a task, and the user as in need of help, the idea of the relationship between the librarians and the users is one of inequality. The librarian’s role is presented either as edifying towards a badly behaved and/or badly instructed public, or as a reluctant servant obliged to cater to the user’s every need. / Program: Bibliotekarie

The purpose of this paper has been to study the relationships and attitudes of a few teachers and librarians as to their co-operation in a combined public and upper secondary school library and to find out what circumstances there may be to exert an influence on their work. The paper has been based upon qualitative interviews with upper secondary school teachers and librarians as well as on studies of literature relating to our issue. We believe there may be different approaches to the learning process, as these are the relations and attitudes of two professions from different trades. That is why our point of departure has been Roger Säljö's theory about learning and, in our analysis, a few of Jean Donham van Deusen's ideas of joint planning and flexible timetabling. All respondents agreed that co-operation could be better, but the teachers were of the opinion that it must not interfere with their time. There was also some hesitation to letting the librarian take an active part in planning the teaching, but she was still regarded as an asset in the working party because of her great skills in information retrieval. Our research shows that a number of circumstances influence to co-operation. These can be summed up as follows:- different attitudes to knowledge, to the idea of a life-long learning and to an enquiring methodology- the attitude of the two managements towards co-operation- the teachers' experience of being short of timeTeachers and librarians equally agreed that the purpose of a school library should be to show the way to life-long learning and that school and library are together responsible for this task. / Uppsatsnivå: D

The purpose of this study is to investigate• how a professional librarian can support the work with pupils, age six to twelve years, in their reading and linguistic development• how the conditions at the school have to be for this to become possible• what kind of attitudes the teachers have, and how they relate to the impact of a librarian for the pupils reading and linguistic development.The methods used are analyses of steering documents concerning school libraries and analyses of the means of the local school culture. The latter has been carried out by literature studies and through interviews of eight teachers and two school librarians. The result of the interviews showed a limited insight into how a professional librarian can support and assist teachers and pupils in the work with reading and linguistic development. They also showed the influence of existing traditions and local school culture for the use of a librarian’s services, and also how all the teachers, once they have become used to the services a librarian can provide, now find their support invaluable. Our final conclusions are that Swedish schools today easily can choose to rationalize school library activities, including to renounce the engagement of a professional librarian. The documents that govern the school activities allow great potential for school leaders and/or school politicians to encourage good library activities with a professional librarian. But this potential can be jeopardized by the teachers involved and their attitudes towards the usefulness of a professional librarian. The attitudes seem to originate from local traditions, and a lack of knowledge about the librarians´ competence. The aim of this study is to examine whether the image of the stereotype librarian has created conflict in young librarians´ personal identity and/or professional identity and if this has shown in their choice of clothes? Our purpose was to find out, with the help of their choice of clothes, the young librarians view of themselves as individuals and professional librarians. We have searched for the answers to the following questions: - Do young librarians experience that clothing at their workplace has any significance and if so, what do they want to signal with their clothing? - Do they experience that clothing and appearance has any impact on their personal and professional identity? - How do they relate, by their choice of clothes, to the stereotype images of the librarian? We have performed qualitative interviews with eleven young female librarians. As a theoretical framework we have used ideas and concepts from different areas of research; semiotics, social psychology, business administration and ethnology. The questions concerning clothing at the library have visualized the invisible conflicts that are inherent in the librarians´ professional role. The clothing can symbolize different conflicts; between the private and the public role, between being unique and blending with the crowd and between a “harmless look” or a professional look. Also, clothing can symbolize the conflict between the old introvert and the new extrovert professional role, between the old and the new generation of librarians and finally between a real librarian and the stereotype image. / Uppsatsnivå: D

Vi valde att göra intervjuer på kvalitativ grund eftersom vi sökte ta reda tankar och personliga erfarenheter. Respondenterna valdes genom ett strategiskt urval. Resultatet visar att samarbete grundar sig i om pedagogerna har planerat verksamheten tillsammans. Vidare visar studien att det skiljer sig i uppfattningen om hur man ser på sin egen yrkesroll och hur andra ser på den. Fritidspedagogerna är den yrkesgrupp som framställts med den mest oklara yrkesrollen. En slutsats vi dragit är att planeringstiden har visat sig vara en viktig gemensam nämnare för samarbete. Planeringstiden har även visat sig vara av betydelse för pedagogernas status.</p>

Ett allmänt forskningsintresse jag har är vad som passerar som kunskap i ett givet sammanhang. Det sammanhang jag intresserar mig för i denna avhandling  är varför yrkesgruppen personalspecialister många gånger har sådana statusproblem i organisationer och företag, samtidigt som det återkommande i allmänna managementdiskurser hävdas att människan är företagets viktigaste resurs. Om HRM, kompetens, lärande och så vidare är viktiga frågor för företag borde inte personalspecialisterna vara självklara experter i kunskapssamhället? I avhandlingen söker jag svar på denna paradox genom att studera personalspecialisters identitetsarbete. Mer specifikt studerar jag hur yrkesgruppen argumentativt positionerar sig i sina försök att etablera sig som en strategiskt viktig yrkesgrupp. Den övergripande frågeställningen är: Kan man förstå och förklara den relativt låga status yrkesgruppen har jämfört med andra yrkesgrupper genom att studera hur personalspecialister i ett argumentativt sammanhang försökt att positionera sig som en strategiskt viktig yrkesgrupp? / Diss. Parallellt med populärmusikens förändring med avseende på hur den låter (jämför exempelvis The Beatles på 1960-talet med Avicii på 2010-talet), så har även utbudet av verktyg för att skapa den expanderat. Kanske är det förstnämnda – hur det låter – ett resultat av den andra – hur den görs – men oavsett vilket så är dessa förändringar ett faktum. Vad som inte verkar ha förändrats dock är de yrkestitlar som använts och används. Med intervjuer och observationer av vad yrkesverksamma musikproducenter gör året 2013 är syftet att utveckla beskrivningar av musikproducentroller som kan användas i musikproduktionsutbildning. Dessa beskrivningar är menade att peka på vilken kunskap som bör preciseras i utbildningsplaner för att utveckla och fokusera på de nödvändiga kompetenser som krävs för yrket. Jan-Olof Gullös modell för musikproducenters ledarstilar prövas i detta arbete vid analysen av producenter som intervjuas och observeras. Resultatet av detta arbete föreslår två underkategorier till musikproducentens titel med förhoppningen att introduktionen av dessa begrepp kan leda till en fortsatt diskussion att definiera dessa två underkategorier. Ambitionen är att på lång sikt skapa en effektivare och mer relevant pedagogik i akademiska syften, men också att musikaliska sammanhang lättare finner rätt ändamål genom väl anpassade och förtydligade samarbetsförhållanden i yrkeslivet.
