Mosler, Štěpán January 2018 (has links)
Nowadays there are hundreds of breweries scattered throughout Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia, waiting for their new future. They are either abandoned or in private property. In the worst case they have been deteriorating with no hope of recovery. There are not many left. It is very difficult to find a new function and especially enlightened investor. Important thing is how we will treat with these structures in the future. Will we use this unique potential, or leave this place for a new function? Which way we can choose? What is the potential of these buildings and what they need? This thesis attempts to briefly describe and demonstrate the value of brewery architecture which due to dramatic changes in society became endangered. And to offer possible solutions for the preservation this unique buildings their charm and atmosphere for the next generations.

How an archival collection is created

Kaijser, Ella January 2021 (has links)
In 2020, several Nordic archives and museums sent out ”question lists”, questionnaires, to collect the public’s experiences of the Covid-19 pandemic. The collections resulted in an incomparable collection of contemporary cultural history about the Covid-19 pandemic. The aim of this thesis is to follow the creation of this collection. The thesis is defined through three research questions: one asking about the initial creation of the collection projects, one about the implementation, and one about what will happen to the resulting collection as an archival material. The study is based on previous research about Nordic contemporary Mass-Observation projects and question lists, as well as health narrative studies and research about Covid-19 experiences. Aspects of the previous research are used to create a theoretical framework, based around the concept of actors in accordance with Giddens structural theory (Johansson 2003:422). The three primary terms that are used in the analysis are dialogue, (immaterial) monument, and post-custodial archives, all retrieved from previous research in the field. The empirical data is collected through semi-participatory observation and documentation of the question lists, as well as interviews with responsible personnel at the institutions. The analysis is divided into three chapters, based on the three research questions. The first chapter thus concerns the initial creation of the collection projects, with regards to the design of the question lists, and the institutions’ thoughts and aims with the projects. The term dialogue is used to analyse the interaction between and within the institutions during this process. The second chapter studies the implementation of the actual project and includes an analysis of the question lists themselves as well as the digital interface through which they are made accessible to the public. Here, too, the term dialogue is used, to analyse how the answers are made in the interaction between the institutions and the public. The third chapter studies the institutions’ plans and hopes for the collected experiences, with regards to future research projects and exhibitions as well as archiving. Here, the term monument is used to illustrate the value and usage of the overall collection. Post-custodial archives are also used to highlight discussions about how digital archival collections should be archived and made accessible. The thesis closes with a final discussion chapter, which expands on the questions about what the purposes of these kinds of collections are, as well as about what role and place archiving should have in the creation and implementation of these kinds of Mass-Observation projects. This is a two years master's thesis in Archival science.

Tvorba v historickém prostředí města Kroměříže Úprava nábřeží v úseku mezi hlavním a Zborovským mostem / Creation in historical environment of the city Kroměříž Adjusting the waterfront in the section between the Main and Bridge Zborovský

Šónová, Marcela January 2017 (has links)
An object of leisure-time center and a new bridge were designed according to needs and limits of this location, that they correspond to. This project follows up on the previous analysis and the riverfront design in the section between the main bridge and the Zborovsky bridge in Kroměříž. The general target of this project is an active integrating the river and its closest neighborhood to the city environment. This target is supported by the study in this project. The leisure-time center design creates a social background and a center of this area and it would became an important point in Kroměříž, where people could relocate on the river, by bike or on foot from. The new bridge design examines possible solutions of a new bridge over the river in Kroměříž, that is missing here.

Mies, Jürgen 30 July 2002 (has links)

Niskala, Marian January 2021 (has links)
This essay explores public monuments and memorials raised in dedication to historic women in the Swedish cities of Uppsala, Gävle and Västerås. Through the reception aesthetic method, the chosen works of art are analysed from a gender perspective. The overall history of public sculpture in Sweden, including the female nude sculptures, is examined closely, where the monuments and memorials which have been raised in dedication to historic men are compared to those raised in dedication for historic women. The range of artworks vary from traditional monument to modern and postmodern aestethics. The importance of figurative representation is the main focus of this study, and the purpose is to convey how women are represented in the monuments spatial situation and how it varies from the male sculptural representation.

Searching for the Grandiose / Searching for the Grandiose

Wallhammar, Johan January 2018 (has links)
This project is called “Searching for the Grandiose” and consequently dives into this both historical and contemporary field of architecture. With a basis in architectural history, architectural theory and popular culture the project aims to understand and create grandiose architecture.  Both built and imaginary, this area of architecture has always inspired and pushed the boundaries for the possibilities of our profession. Furthermore, in the search for the grandiose also follows a possibility of the limitless – both economically, technically and mentally. In trying to design the grandiose, the architect must loosen the chains of reality and strive for the impossible and awesome. Consequently – a vast architectural fantasy is here created on an imaginary site with no restrictions in regards to size, program or economy.

Esplanadskolan – ett postmodernt skolpalats vid Årstafältet / Esplanade Elementary School – a postmodern, monumental school in Årstafältet

Sanning, Sofia, Eriksson, Alexander January 2018 (has links)
On Saturday May 26th, A.D. 2018, the ground work is initiated for one of our time’s most expansive housing projects. Årstafältet, a predominately natural park in southern Stockholm, will during the next twelve years be urbanized to two fifths of its total area, giving context for an entirely new urban quarter, accomodating 15 000 new Stockholmers. The scale of the housing project is comparable to the whole population of Nynäshamn, or one fifth of Kungsholmen’s. The new zoning plan has the motto “a place for meetings”, and its main principle is “variation”. The zoning plan requests that the new buildings should be characterized by a variation in different heights, forms and styles. In accordance with the main principle of the zoning plan, and with the program of the degree project, we have designed a school building for 540 pupils in the ages of 10 to 16 years, which embodies a postmodern, eclectical approach, in uniting diverse architectural elements and inspiration from many different historical styles, and in the standpoint that the diversity of elements and physical environments is not subordinated to any one architectural principle. The school is in itself a place of meetings – between epochs, styles, materials and elements. Esplanade Elementary School has been designed as a postmodern, monumental school, where the awesome dignity of knowledge, as well as the massive importance of the school as a societal institution, is fortified in the architecture’s monumentality. Esplanade Elementary School directs itself as a landmark and symbol to both old and new contexts in its urban vicinity, opening up its doors for the public in many aspects outside of school hours. It also aspires to offer its pupils physical environments which evoke their immersive interest and in its diversity allow for the phenomenological compatibility of equally diverse environmental preferences. The main elements which make up the directional essence of the interior environments are the Botanical atrium, the monumental spiral staircase and the Obelisk of Light, composed of hundreds of naturally and artificially lighted fresnel prisms.

The Value of Light in Contemporary Memorials : Understanding the needs of contemporary memorials and how they can be accomplished with light. Proposal of a light installation for commemorating the 1989 acticommunist Revolution in Timisoara.

Tripsa, Silvia Casandra January 2018 (has links)
The master thesis is a research about the relationship between memorials and light. It first studies the characteristics of cultural memories and tries to find what the advantages of using lighting as a means of commemoration are. The nowadays memorials are very different compared to the traditional monuments and they should include a changing narrative, treating local and universal messages. They should involve the public.A contemporary memorial is ephemeral and continuously changing- the same as light is.A series of contemporary memorials have been selected to understand the tools that makes them successful. Furthermore, it was analyzed how these parameters could be achieved through light. 12 memorials that use light as an eloquent tool have been interpreted according to certain criteria. The second part of the thesis is an applied project related to the events that happened in Timisoara, Romania, in 1989 during the anticommunist Revolution. The process of creating memorials for Timisoara is a key focus of the study. The development is equally important as the end result. It searches for the significant messages and lessons of the event. Testimonials of the participants to the revolution have been studied. Interviews and questionnaires have been developed. Following this, significant places in the city and messages were chosen. The research will conclude with a lighting installations project proposal.
