技術知識特質、產品開發團隊與組織動態能耐關係之研究 / The effects of technological knowledge and product development on organizational dynamic capability

本研究主要透過新產品開發專案﹐探討技術知識特質、產品開發團隊與組織動態能耐之關係。研究範圍以台灣光資訊產業產品創新表現優秀的企業為主﹐深入訪談其產品開發專案負責人與核心成員﹐瞭解其產品開發的歷程﹐與組織動態能耐累積的過程。研究結果顯示技術知識生命週期會影響組織知識吸收,當技術知識生命週期位於初生期時,廠商傾向於從大學或研究機構吸收新的知識; 而當技術知識生命週期位於成熟期時,廠商傾向於從零件供應商吸收新的知識。技術知識路徑相依度會影響組織進行知識創造的團隊類型, 當組織進行新技術的研究發展時﹐組織傾向於使用「自主型團隊」進行組織知識創造; 當組織進行激進式創新﹐組織傾向於使用「重型團隊」進行組織知識創造; 當組織進行平台式創新﹐組織傾向於使用「輕型團隊」進行組織知識創造; 當組織進行改良式創新﹐組織傾向於使用「功能型團隊」進行組織知識創造。技術知識複雜程度會影響組織知識蓄積,當技術知識複雜程度高時﹐組織傾向於透過「文件」來蓄積組織知識,反之,當技術知識複雜程度低時﹐組織傾向於透過「人員」來蓄積組織知識。在團隊特質部份﹐當團隊開放性越高越有利於組織知識吸收﹔當團隊自主性越高越有利於組織知識創造﹔當團隊共事經驗越多越有利於組織知識蓄積。至於台灣光資訊產業組織動態能耐累積的模式依照創新類型與能耐來源﹐可以分為1.自主虛擬模式﹔2.自主內部研發模式﹔3.系統合作模式。另外對組織知識吸收能耐的長期投資將有助於組織動態能耐的累積。而台灣光資訊產業的創新類型﹐依零件與架構層次的學習來看﹐主要展現在「漸增式學習」與「架構式學習」的創新類型。至於台灣光資訊產業的創新特色表現則在對於零件應用能力的優異表現﹐而創新表現較佳的產品開發專案多採用「模組式」產品開發程序來縮短產品開發時間。 / This study inquired how technological knowledge and product development influences organizational dynamic capability. We interviewed some project leader or members who are responsible for new product development in the Taiwanese optoelectronics industry to understand the process of product innovation and accumulation of organizational dynamic capability.Our findings show that the life cycle of technological knowledge will influence knowledge absorption of the firm. When the stage of the life cycle is in embryo, knowledge absorption of the firm. When the firm is inclined to absorb new knowledge from universities or research institutes. Otherwise, when the stage of the life cycle becomes mature, the firm is inclined to absorb new knowledge from component suppliers. Faced with different path dependence of technological knowledge, the firm will organize different project teams to facilitate organizational knowledge creation. The "Autonomous team" usually focus on researching and developing new technology; the "Heavyweight team" on radical innovation; the "Lightweight team" on platform innovation; and the "Functional team" on incremental innovation. The complexity of technological knowledge will decide how the firm stores its knowledge. High complexity of technological knowledge will make the firm store its knowledge through documents; otherwise it will be stored through people. The openness of the project team promotes knowledge absorption and high autonomy of project team is beneficial to knowledge creation within the organization. More redundancy among team members facilitates the storage of organizational knowledge. From the point of innovation pattern and sources of capability, we find three types of grouping the accumulation of organizational dynamic capability: Type I is called "autonomy-virtual"; Type II is called "autonomy-in-house" and Type III is called "system-corporate". Our results also demonstrate that most product innovation in Taiwanese optoelectronics ndustry focus on "incremental learning" and "architectural earning". They use the "modular" product development model to shorten product development time and strengthen performance in the application of key components.

兩岸新產品專案之技術知識特質與知識創新管理研究-以資訊硬體產業為例 / A Study on Relationship of Characteristics of Technological Knowledge and Knowledge Innovation Management on NPD Project in Taiwan and Mainland China--A Case Study of Computer Manufacturing Industry

本研究以兩構面「技術知識的特質」和「知識創新管理」探討台灣母公司與大陸子公司間之新產品專案進行方式。以技術知識的特質分類中之技術知識的複雜度、技術知識的可分割程度、技術知識的外顯程度、技術知識的標準化程度和技術知識的路徑相依度,研究台灣母公司和大陸子公司合作進行專案,其中著重在專案內知識管理流程和技術特質間的相關性探討,在兩岸合作的專案中主要以台商直接投資大陸的廠商為個案內容,也就是進行於台灣母公司和大陸子公司間的專案。   而所探討的產業為資訊硬體產業,在產業中個案的選擇考量以廠商產品種類集中、專案產品與企業業務內容一致、投資大陸時間長和廠商在產業內為領先廠商為主,選擇廠商業務內容有資訊儲存設備、資訊產品精密零組件、電腦輸入裝置、電腦鍵盤、LCD背光板和數據機等六個個案,為個案分析的主體。   研究所得的結論為「技術知識複雜度會影響專案團隊的異質性」、「技術知識可分割程度影響兩岸之間合作模式」、「技術知識可分割程度會影響專案溝通進行方式」、「技術知識外顯程度會影響專案知識在兩岸間的交付模式」、「技術知識外顯程度會影響專案負責人所具備的知識背景」、「技術知識標準化程度會影響知識的主要來源」、「技術知識路徑相依度與大陸子公司技術能耐有關」、「資訊硬體產業內中小企業投資大陸主要受兩股力量的影響,其中一股拉力來自人工成本的考量,另一股推力來自企業客戶的壓力」等。   並依研究結論提出具體建議,對產業界提出針對投資的外部環境和廠商內部組織運作上兩方面,在投資外部環境上有「掌握大陸經營環境的變化」、「善用大陸的資源」、「重視產業互動和加強廠商互助」等,在廠商內部組織運作上有「廣泛的吸收資源網路中的知識並引進不同背景的員工」、「建構資訊管理系統有效儲存知識」、「利用知識技術的可分割性,建立企業的競爭優勢」、「有效運用組織內部成員意見,促進產品知識創新」等具體建議。 / This study discussed how the characteristics of technological knowledge influence the knowledge management, including input, adsorption and integration, storage, and circulation via NPD project in Taiwan and Mainland China. Furthermore, the purpose of this study was to discuss the following topics:   1. How does the knowledge transfer via NPD project from Taiwanese company to China subsidiary company?   2. What characteristics of technological knowledge do the NPD projects have in Taiwanese company and China subsidiary company?   3. What is the relationship between the characteristics of technological knowledge and NPD project knowledge management?   According to the analyses of six cases in computer manufacturing industry, the study has generated the following conclusions:   1. The complexity of technological knowledge characteristics can affect the composition of team members.   2. The segmentation of technological knowledge characteristics can affect the model of cooperation in the project in Taiwanese company and China subsidiary company.   3. The segmentation of technological knowledge characteristics can affect the communication style in the project.   4. The explicitness of technological knowledge can affect the model of project transfer.   5. The explicitness of technological knowledge can affect the background of project leader.   6. The standardization of technological knowledge can affect the input of knowledge.   7. The relative technology ability in China subsidiary company can affect the path dependency of technological knowledge.   8. Two driving forces influence the investment in computer manufacturing industry in Mainland China, one is customer's suggestion, the other is labor costs.

新藥研發是台灣生技發展的重點產業。新藥研發一般具有高投資、高風險與研發期長的特性。因此,有些公司會透過多角化的策略來分散風險。不過,在有限的資源與人力下,發展多角化的產品通常是個極具挑戰的任務。因此,本研究針對新藥研發公司,就其採取多角化的動機與策略來加以探討。 此外,在知識經濟的時代,知識已成為企業最重要的資產,如何透過有效的知識管理以提昇組織知識的價值,則是企業所重視的關鍵性議題之一。新藥研發屬知識密集產業,知識管理對於公司相當重要。因此本研究亦從知識特性的觀點(路徑相依度、不確定程度與競爭衝擊程度)來探討其對知識管理的影響。 本研究在方法上採取多重個案研究的方式,透過深入個案訪談與次級資料收集,所得到的結論如下: 1. 台灣新藥研發公司選擇多角化策略的動機相當多元。 2. 台灣新藥研發公司多角化的動機與多角化目標領域之路徑相依度有關。 3. 台灣新藥研發公司多角化目標領域技術知識的路徑相依度與競爭衝擊程度會影響其技術知識吸收的方式。 4. 台灣新藥研發公司多角化目標領域技術知識的路徑相依度會影響其組織設計、分工與人員式知識擴散的對象。 5. 台灣新藥研發公司進行多角化產品研發時,其知識蓄積活動上傾向於採取「機械-整合式」的蓄積方式。 / New drug development industry is one of the key biotech development areas in Taiwan. The nature of new drug development involves high investment, high risk and long development time. As a result, some companies develop diversification as a strategy to reduce the risk. However, the scarcity of resource and manpower makes developing diversified products particularly challenging. This study would focus on why these companies choose diversification strategy and which strategies they develop. Knowledge management is very important for companies in research-intensive industry. This study would also explore how the companies practice knowledge management on its diversified projects. In addition, this study uses technological knowledge characteristics (path dependence, degree of uncertainty, and competitive position) to analyze the effect upon knowledge management process. In this study, multiple case study method to take the way through in-depth case interviews and secondary data collection, the conclusion is as follows: 1.The reasons why new drug development companies in Taiwan underwent diversification vary a lot. 2.Synergy motivation of new drug development companies in Taiwan will affect the path dependence of technological knowledge in target areas for diversification. 3.Path dependence and competitive intensity of technological knowledge in target areas for diversification will affect the way of technical knowledge acquired in Taiwan’s new drug development companies. 4.Path dependence of technological knowledge will affect the organizational design, the division of labor and object of personnel-type knowledge diffusion 5.New drug development companies in Taiwan tend to choose 「Mechanical-Integrated」mode of knowledge Storage when the diversification activities.

台灣電腦網路廠商組織知識創造平台之研究 / The Platform of the Organizational Knowledge Creation : The Case Study in Taiwan Computer Network Industry

本研究主要透過新產品的開發專案,探討技術知識特質對組織知識創造平台的影響。研究範圍以台灣電腦網路廠商為主,針對其產品創新表現優秀的企業為主,深入訪談其產品開發專案負責人與核心成員,瞭解其產品開發的過程,與組織知識的創新平台。本研究結果顯示如下: 一、技術知識特質會影響台灣電腦網路廠商之知識創造平台 (一)技術知識路徑相依度低之產品開發專案,CEO在概念與生成及發展扮演重要角色。技術路徑相依度高的開發專案,概念的生成主要來自於各功能性部門。 (二)技術知識路徑相依度低的專案,與上游技術網路的成員保持較緊密的關係。技術知識路徑相依度高的專案,與上游技術網路成員保持較鬆散的關係。 (三)當組織開發的產品為新產品線的研究發展時,團隊管理者偏向「專案管理型」的角色,與市場方面的連結則以PM/行銷/銷售部門為主。當組織開發的產品為擴展公司現有產品線的深度時,團隊管理者偏向「總經理型」的角色。當組織開發的產品為改良或修正現有產品時,團隊管理者偏向「企劃型」的角色。 (四)當組織開發的產品為新產品線的研究發展時,組織傾向於使用「自主型團隊」來進行產品開發。當組織開發的產品為擴展公司現有產品線的深度時,組織傾向於使用「重型團隊」來進行產品開發。當組織開發的產品為改良或修正現有產品時,組織傾向於使用「輕型團隊」來進行產品開發。 (五)技術知識複雜度高,則技術網路成成員種類較多。技術知識複雜度低,則技術網路成員種類較少。 (六)技術知識複雜度愈高,組織溝通方式傾向以整合問題解決模式,若生產在專案過程參與較少,則研發與生產之間會透過產品工程做連結。 (七)技術知識複雜度高,則團隊成員組成多元程度較高。技術知識複雜度低,則團隊成員組成多元程度較低。 二、台灣電腦網路廠商知識創造平台的特性 (一)在組織知識創造的場域(Ba)中,對組織成員適度的關懷(Care)是台灣優秀電腦網路廠商的特色。 (二)在Dialoing Ba中,正式與非正式的溝通同樣為外化過程中不可或缺的方式。 (三)台灣優秀的電腦網路廠商的創新類型偏重於架構式創新,並與國外技術提供者保持適度的跨組織的知識交流。 (四)技術知識特質對組織知識創造的場域(Ba)的影響並不明顯。

企業應用軟體研發程序之探討-知識創新觀點

在當前競爭日益激烈的網際網路商業環境中,企業對能提升經營績效之創新管理方法與工具的需求更形殷切。尤其在資訊科技快速發展的推波助瀾下,各式新型商品與新穎服務的開發與提供,不但改變了傳統的供需關係,更使企業經營面臨必須全面檢討與不斷創新的壓力。故在知識經濟時代裏,組織的經營重心將是擺在創新上,而新產品的開發又是在創新上最具體的成果,雖然研究發展活動需要投入相當多的資源,但是卻是一個科技公司所依賴維持競爭力的一項企業活動。   基於此,故本論文將在知識創新和研發程序二者之間做相關性探討,而所選擇的專案案例是以企業應用軟體研發程序專案為基礎,從此基礎試著以知識創新活動內容的過程中和技術知識特質中,分析出屬於企業應用軟體產業的知識創新活動內容中的行為為何?以及技術知識特質和這些知識創新行為之間關聯性,進而提供以知識創新行為基礎,架構如何發展成功的研發程序模式,來提昇企業競爭力。   為了分析客觀起見,所選擇的應用軟體研發程序專案案例將有三種不同個案---1.個案一「ERP導入專案」,2.個案二「企業應用客製化軟體開發專案」,3.個案三「企業協同作業方法論專案」。而這三種不同個案有其三個不同類型---導入程序、客製化軟體開發程序、作業方法論程序。這些不同類型在分析軟體技術知識特質和知識創新活動行為之間關聯性,將試著找出共同點,進而得出本論文的研究發現。   從整個論文發展過程中,可知最主要是要發現在企業應用軟體研發程序下的軟體技術知識特質應該運用何種知識創新行為,並以此行為做為企業應用軟體產業在研發程序專案順利完成的成功因素。 / On competitive internet business environment, corporate need innovation management methodology and tool , in order to submit business performance urgently. The influence of the characteristics of technological knowledge on knowledge management is also studied. The research was conducted mainly based on deep case studied. The research subjects include four R&D projects two which are selected from two companies of CNC machine industry.   The preliminary conclusions are as follows:   1. The more the R&D project knowledge is absorbed from different sources, wide ranges,and multiple organizational learning activities, the better the performance of new product development would be.   2. The more the R&D project knowledge creates the technological breakthrough and thenewly added value, the better the performance of new product development would be.   3. The more the R&D project knowledge is accumulated with the documentation, the amass of activities, and the core resourcefulness, the better the performance of new product development would be.   4. The more the R&D project knowledge is diffused in different patterns and activities, the better the performance of new product development would be.   5. There exists a direct relationship between the knowledge management of R&D project and the degree of change of technological knowledge.   6. There exists a direct relationship between the knowledge management of R&D project and the degree of explicitness of technological knowledge.   7. There doesn't exist a direct relationship between the knowledge management of R&D project and the degree of path dependence of technological knowledge path.   8. There doesn't exist a direct relationship between the knowledge management of R&D project and the degree of modualization of technological knowledge.   9. There exists a direct relationship between the knowledge management of R&D projects and the degree of complexity of technological knowledge.   As a result, it is suggested that the R & D departments of the companies possessed with different characteristics of technological knowledge should design the organizational form and activities that are conformed to the characteristics of technological knowledge for facilitating the practices of knowledge management.   The internal technology inheritance and the external technology resource deployment have to be executed ordinarily; and the appropriate resources as well as human powershall be properly allocated in accordance with the different steps of new product development with a view to intensifying the satisfactory result.

我國IC設計業研發支出遞延效應之探討

本文探討景氣因素、研發外溢效果及技術知識特質對IC設計業研發支出遞延效應之影響。本研究主要採用Lev and Sougiannis (1996)所發展之研發支出遞延效應實證模型,以國內IC設計業上市櫃公司為對象,透過分析產業特性,區分為多應用性IC設計群組及單應用性IC之資訊、通訊及消費性群組,並探討其研發支出遞延效應。研究發現如下: 一、在研發支出遞延效應中,IC設計業受景氣之影響僅限於當期之研發支出;就研發支出效益受影響程度上,IC設計業亦低於其他IC產業。此結果顯示,IC設計業由於具備產品多元化和應用多元等利基市場特性,且在國內是屬於成長型產業,故景氣影響程度不如其他下游產業來的大。 二、多應用性IC設計公司之研發支出所創造之未來效益,比單應用性IC設計公司高。多應用性IC設計公司因為受到研發外溢效果之影響,其當期及遞延一期之研發支出,會比單應用性IC設計公司創造更高之效益。此結果顯示,多應用性IC設計公司投入於不同領域產品之研發支出,存在類似產業內外溢效果,因此亦加強研發支出對未來效益貢獻之程度。 三、資訊類單應用性IC設計公司之研發支出,對未來所創造之效益金額及持續年限,均未優於通訊類及消費類單應用性IC公司。本研究發現,技術路徑相依度及技術變動程度兩種技術知識特質,並不能完全解釋單應用性不同群組之研發支出所創造未來效益的程度,而必須同時考量下游應用市場之目前狀況及未來潛力,才能對其研發支出遞延效應做出更正確之推論。 / This thesis analyzes three R&D performance issues of the IC design firms in Taiwan. First, it addresses the effect of the fluctuating economic cycle in the semiconductor sector on the R&D performance of design and non-design firms in the IC industry. Secondly, this study examines the R&D spillover effect on the R&D performance of the multifunctional and single-functional groups of IC design firms. Finally, this study discusses how technological knowledge (path independence and complexity) influences the R&D performance of the three subgroups (computer, communication, and consumer) of single-functional IC design firms. Three major findings of the study are as follows: 1.The fluctuating economic cycle in the semiconductor sector has less influence on the R&D performance of the IC design firms than that of the IC non-design firms. The fluctuation affects the R&D expenditure of IC design firms only in the current year, but that effect on the IC non-design firms exist in the current year and also the following year. The R&D performance of IC design firms is also less influenced. 2.The multifunctional IC design firms generate more benefit from R&D expenditure than single-functional ones, suggesting that the former group has a stronger R&D spillover effect. 3.Although the computer subgroup of IC design firms possesses high technological path dependence and low technological complexity, its R&D performance is not better than the other subgroups. This finding suggests that technological path dependence and complexity do not fully explain the difference in R&D performance among the three subgroups of single-functional IC design firms.
