Barns tystnad kring barnmisshandel : En kvalitativ studie utifrån fem barns berättelser

Wiedesheim-Paul, Frida, Husejinovic, Irma January 2020 (has links)
The aim of this study was to understand the problem of children´s silence in child abuse. This was conducted by reading five autobiographies that deal with children’s silence and disclosure based on the author’s own experience on child abuse from a parental figure.  We wanted to contribute to an increased understanding of children's silence and disclosure in child abuse from a child's perspective. Child abuse is considered an international problem, and at the same time it's an uncomfortable topic for many people to discuss. Child abuse creates negative experiences and consequences for the vulnerable children that can remain for the rest of their lives.   One of the main results showed that all the children in the autobiographies shared the same common patterns for silence, disclosure and the complexity in breaking the silence. Another result showed that the complexity with their silence and disclosure are based on their loyalty towards their parent, who are also their perpetrator. Along with Goffmans theory of Stigma, Lazarus and Folkmans theory of Coping and previous research, we have been able to use these common patterns to gain a deeper understanding about the complexity behind breaking the silence regarding child abuse.

Anticipating a future with digital assistants : Futuristic Autobiographies to explore stress management

Danielsson, Johannes, Säljedal, Klara January 2021 (has links)
Digital assistants such as Google Assistant and Alexa are becoming more and more common in people's homes through smart speakers. Technologies that assist with stress management have increased as well, leading to an abundance of stress management applications for different devices. However, there is a limited amount of research regarding how advanced digital assistants could support stress management and be integrated into users' daily activities. Therefore, our study explores how people anticipate that they would relate to an advanced digital assistant in the future and how they would integrate it into their everyday activities for stress management. Our study shows that important aspects of digital assistants relate to their objectivity, personalization, and adaptability in terms of type of interaction in different contexts. The study also finds that privacy and control, such as a mute function or an on & off function, are desired in order to adjust the digital assistant and integrate it into everyday activities. Finally, stress management with digital assistants is highly personal and how users would relate to and integrate digital assistants into their everyday activities for stress management is unique to each user.

Elitens osynliga mående : En kvalitativ studie om psykisk ohälsa inom elitidrott / The invisible health of the elite : A qualitative study about mental illness in elite sports

Granat, Felicia, Persson, Hannah January 2022 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine how mental illness in elite sports is experienced and perceived in order to gain a deeper understanding of how an elite sport can affect a person's mental health and well-being and to furthermore examine the challenges that elite athletes encounter that can affect their mental health. The study uses a qualitative method using content analysis of three different autobiographies written by elite athletes. The autobiographies are stories based on experiences of mental illness within their elite sports. Through content analysis of these autobiographies, three different perspectives on mental illness in elite sports are given and with that a deeper understanding of how mental illness can be experienced and perceived based on their different life stories. Lately, people have started to talk more about mental illness in elite sport. By using the autobiographies of the elite athletes, the subject is highlighted and can be given more attention, new knowledge can grow and an understanding of what it is like to be an elite athlete can contribute to tools that can prevent mental illness. The following questions were set as guidelines for the thesis: How is mental illness experienced and perceived in elite sports? What are the challenges with mental health in elite sports and what can this be due to? We used three different theories: Howard Becker's theory about stamping, Erving Goffman's theory about stigma and Erving Goffman's theory of roles. The results show that the elite athletes from the autobiographies experience that their mental illness has been a problem in relation to their performance. It also showed that their focus on performance has been a problem, but also an incentive in terms of realizing, talking about and understanding their own mental illness. There are some differences in the elite athletes' experiences of mental illness. Their picture of mental illness within their sport varies and mental illness can be experienced in different ways and so they can too be affected in different ways. The data material provided by the autobiographies has been interpreted with the help of previous research and analysis of the elite athletes' life stories. It has been done by linking experiences about the phenomenon with theories that can help to gain a deeper understanding of mental illness in elite sports. We have come to the conclusion that elite athletes face a lot of challenges, not the least with mental health. Based on the autobiographies, it appears that stigmatization around mental illness is a major challenge for elite athletes who make it difficult for them to talk openly about their mental illness. The sports culture and the climate that an elite athlete is in can also be contributing factors to the challenges that elite athletes face during their careers in relation to mental illness. This is because the elite athletes are expected to adapt to the standards that exist to fit in and have a chance to become the best. There is a risk that the elite athletes are not themselves when they adapt, which can lead to an imbalance between who they are and who they are expected to be. This can further lead to mental illness for an elite athlete. In order for elite athletes to open up, an atmosphere is required so it is accepted and allows them to open up, so the stigmatization surrounding mental illness needs to change. Stigmatization around mental illness is possible to change, as stigma is changeable, according to Goffman (Goffman E, 2020).

Unga kvinnors erfarenhet av vägen in i prostitution : En litteraturstudie baserad på självbiografier / Young women´s experience of the pathway into prostitution : A litterature study based on autobiographies

Obregon Modica, Naomi, Elvhage, Clara-Lovisa January 2023 (has links)
The aim of the study is to illustrate young Swedish women's path into selling sex through autobiographies. As there is a large unknown number of young women who sell sex, there is a need for an increase in knowledge among authorities to identify the main factors leading to prostitution. There are strong correlations between selling sex and mental illness, as well as an increased risk of experiencing serious sexual violence and abuse. By highlighting the risk factors for young women to end up in prostitution, interventions can be given in the early stages. The research question "How do young women describe the factors that influenced the path into start selling sex?" has been answered through a qualitative research method and analyzed using thematic content analysis. The results have been analyzed using previous research and theories to provide a deeper perspective on the women's stories. The stories of the seven young women show that they have similar experiences that can also be found in previous research. The results show that the four main reasons for women born in Sweden to start selling sex are experiences of sexual abuse, anxiety and self-harm, childhood difficulties, and economic aspects. The majority of young women who end up in prostitution describe how they have been subjected to sexual abuse at a young age, and several women describe how prostitution is used as a way to alleviate anxiety while it becomes worse afterwards, which becomes a vicious circle. Many of the women describe experiences of parents with addiction and mental illness, which have negatively affected their childhood and adult lives. The economic aspect is described by some women as a lure and a quick way to earn money when economic resources are lacking to improve their quality of life.

Mäns våld mot kvinnor i nära relationer : En innehållsanalys av ett antal självbiografiska berättelser / Men´s violence against women in intimate partner relationships : A content analysis of a number of autobiographical narratives

Lukic, Natalija, Manevska, Sandra January 2023 (has links)
Men's violence against women in close relationships is an increasing societal problem that causes both psychological and physical harm to women. The aim of the study was to gain a deeper understanding of women's experiences of men's violence in close relationships by analyzing four autobiographies. A qualitative content analysis was used as the method in the study. The research material was analyzed using two different theoretical perspectives: stigma and the process of normalization. Additionally, the analysis was based on previous research where four articles were used. The results showed that the women described similar experiences within the different themes of the research question, which were punishment, the process of normalization, the need for control and jealousy, guilt, and shame. The men used methods of punishment such as harming, controlling, and manipulating the women. The behavior was normalized over time, making it difficult for the women to leave the violent relationship. The women could become isolated and monitored, while the man's jealousy became evident. The men blamed the women for their behavior, creating feelings of guilt and shame. The results also showed that the lack of support from the surroundings made it difficult for the women to leave destructive and violent relationships.

Upplevelsen av grundläggande omvårdnad hos bröstcancerdrabbade kvinnor / The experience of Fundamentals of Care among women affected by breast cancer

Berglöw, Lina, Lundmark, Matilda January 2023 (has links)
Background: Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women; various treatment options exist for breast cancer, and healthcare professionals must work with person-centered care for the patients to feel involved during the treatments. Aim: The purpose was to examine how women with breast cancer experience Fundamentals of Care. Method: An analysis of narratives with a deductively 'approach's been used based on Fundamentals of Care. Six autobiographies written by women affected by breast cancer have been reviewed, analyzed, and then categorized into different parts of the framework Fundamentals of Care. Findings: The findings show that person-centered care and a good relation between patients and registered nurses is an essential aspect during the entire course of the disease. Active listening, information and communication are vital for women to feel secure. The women experience increased physical and emotional well-being if nurses are present and supportive. Conclusion: Information is an essential aspect for women to feel security. The nurses are perceived as more engaged if the women are provided with sufficient information. Thus, nurses must take time to listen and try to understand the individual need.

O ser professor em obras literárias autorreferenciadas e em filmes: dimensões profissionais e emocionais do trabalho docente / Being a teacher in self-referential literature and films: professional and emotional dimensions of teaching

Calles, Diva Cleide 11 May 2012 (has links)
An analysis of self-referential literature dealing with the teacher figure in the several identities it may take and represent in different teaching institutions, based on the following sources: Blackboard jungle, by Evan Hunter; Sale Prof!, by Nicolas Revol; Entre les murs, by François Bégadeau; Teacher man, by Frank McCourt; and the following films: Entre les murs and Blackboard jungle. Those works were written by teachers and have teachers as their main characters. They picture school situations encountered between the second half of the 20th century and the early 21th century. They are examined as cultural texts with cultural and social meanings and representations concerning teaching, with the purpose of: (1) examining the elements of being a teacher and how teaching is represented in those works and based on them; (2) taking a glimpse of the multiple socially circulating discourses and representations about teaching; (3) discussing issues related to literature and films based on elements common to the school universe, concerning being a teacher and the exercise of teaching. The universality of the teaching profession, even if under different teaching systems permits an analysis of the representations of teaching in relation to: (1) students and families belonging to lower income, socially excluded groups, for whom schooling does not always make sense or is seen from different standpoints; (2) the growing institutional, social and personal demands on the action of the teacher; (3) school failure and limits to the teacher actions (4) creation of the teaching authority, expected performance, expected action and meaning of teaching work to teachers themselves; (5) forming a satisfactory pact of survival that will permit multiple learnings. The study of those sources permitted noting that, in the performance of teaching activities, the initial background and the acquisition of academic and pedagogical knowledge are just a part of what is needed to efficiently deal with what happens in the classroom. It is the duty of the teacher to deal with conflicts, frustrations, successes and joys inherent to the teaching profession both from the physical and emotional standpoint. A satisfactory interrelation must be founded in a pact of conviviality based on hierarchy, limits, rules and mutual respect.

Encontros na terceira idade - autobiografia e devir / Third age meetings autobiography and becoming

Gishitomi, Fábio Aragaki 07 October 2014 (has links)
The number of elderly people on the planet has never been seen in the history of mankind. Throughout the twentieth century and early twenty-first , the increasing number of elderly in the population, caused the emergence of new ways to face old age. This new reality demands to think of the possible contributions, insights and interventions that psychology can offer. Glimpsing the development of new approaches to the care of elderly, this study aims to approach the experience of being old today and to contribute to the theme of old age . This study is a clinical trial that used qualitative methodology approach, involving the design of participative research. For its operationalization we used a modification of the Biographical Ateliers of Project from Delory Momberger, and the theory of Gilberto Safra. The project was accomplished with thirteen seniors from the Open University for Elderly of the School of Arts, Sciences and Humanities of the University of São Paulo. The workshops were divided into seven stages, totaling sixteen meetings: a) the first two meetings were explanatory and illustrative of the activities that were developed throughout the process, b ) six meetings for the production of autobiography, c ) two meetings of life narrative (autobiography) socialization, d ) two meetings for the exchange of experiences, e) two meetings to design a project of life, f ) one meeting for the socialization of future plans ( life project ), g ) closing meeting. Data analysis were based on what participants shared during the meetings, participant\'s reflective diary and developed projects of the future, and the researcher\'s field journal. The theory of Gilberto Safra were used at the process of data collection, and at the discussions, providing contributions at the human constitution process, the natural way of expression of each human being, and clinical management strategies based on ethics. We concluded, with this research, that the meetings based on the constituent elements of the human being: Sobórnost ,hospitality , friendship, presence and encounter with the Other and the ethos, enabled participants to share their history, to rebuild the sense of self, to recover the confidence in their actions, to walk ahead facing the future, to develop the will to contribute with humanity, and the intention of leaving records of their existence in the world. This work also allowed to identify the current system of dehumanization. This arrangement generates serious consequences such as displacement, human suffering and the ethical fractures

The presence of grandmothersin the temporalities of autobiographical narratives of Beverly Hungry Wolf, Lee Maracle and Maria Campbell

Alvany Rodrigues Noronha Guanaes 03 October 2011 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to study the autobiographical novels written by three Canadian aboriginal female writers: Beverly Hungry Wolf, Lee Maracle and Maria Campbell under the light of theories about temporalities on narratives. We take narratives as temporal spaces on which the writers incorporate and presentify the figure of their grandmothers, a device through which their literature becomes a bridge between the individual and the collective, the aesthetical and the social, and the personal and the political. These autobiographies present three temporalities: the present of the past, on which memory is the main element in the identity constitution; the present of the present, on which the vision of experience motivates action; and the present of the future, which points to an expectation on discernment of responsibilities towards the subjects community and the established political power. The theoretical background is based on Ricoeurs theories on temporalities in dialogue with Indigenous theoretician Kim Anderson and others who build up the critical reception of these authors and of Native Canadian and Native American literatures.
