No. of bitstreams: 1 Wagner Miranda Dias.pdf: 128984620 bytes, checksum: 6040271e677a1e39c6512d148ae7f5d0 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2017-12-07 / Conselho Nacional de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico - CNPq / Fundação São Paulo - FUNDASP / This research investigates the paths of the artist's artistic composition - theater, dance and performance - Roberto Alencar, reflecting on his creative, authoring and communication processes, observing the procedures that involve his thought and practice in the production of his scene, highlighting the relations between drawing, verb and body. The investigation of the transit between languages inserted in the creative processes is essential to think critically about contemporary communication systems and networks, throwing glances on the construction of the diverse communicative objects that act in hybridization, revealing different modes of action and creative structures. The hypothesis is that the artist of the body who possesses consciousness and mastery of the visual / verbal transit of the scene arts, engendered as body space experience, can trigger effective creative and communicational processes between the stages of elaboration of the scene, with the artistic collective and with the public. The theoretical foundation is structured from the studies of Cecilia Almeida Salles, who investigate creation processes within the complexity of the systems; the authors RoseLee Goldberg, Silvia Fernandes and Flávio Desgranges, will be used in regard to historical and social reflection on the artist of the body. Renato Cohen will be convened to discuss performance and language issues; Christine Greiner, Helena Katz, Lucia Santaella, Norval Baitello, for concepts about image and body; Vincente Colapietro for his studies on Peircian semiotics and subjectivity. The theoretical framework proposes dialogues with thinkers fundamental to the study of body and culture (Edgar Morin, Zigmunt Bauman, Mikhail Bakhtin). The scientific methodologies will be the one of bibliographical research, seeking to establish a critical approach on the relation creation, authorship and communication and the field research, that will be based on the investigation of drawings, drafts, videos, audio recordings, interviews and documents of process / Esta pesquisa investiga os percursos da composição artística do artista do corpo – teatro, dança e performance – Roberto Alencar, refletindo sobre seus processos criativos, de autoria e comunicação, observando os procedimentos que envolvem seu pensamento e sua prática na produção de sua cena, destacando as relações entre desenho, verbo e corpo.

A critique of "cultural fit" in relation to the recruitment of Indian Information Technologists for the Y2K project in Australia.

Booth, Judith, kimg@deakin.edu.au,jillj@deakin.edu.au,mikewood@deakin.edu.au January 2002 (has links)
In this study of intercultural communication, I investigate the multi-faceted meaning of the expression " cultural fit " in the sense that it is used by recruiters when shortlisting Indian information technologists to fill skills shortages for the Y2K project in Australia. The data is in the form of ten videotaped interviews in Bangalore and the recruiter commentary on those tapes in Melbourne. A crucial decision to be made by recruiters in any shortlisting process is " How will the candidate fit into the workplace?" This question becomes more problematical when applied to overseas-trained professionals. I take a critical approach, drawing principally on the research traditions of linguistics where studies of intercultural communication and workplace interaction intersect, employing chiefly the tools of Critical Discourse Analysis and Interactional Sociolinguistics and the more abstract notions of Bourdieu. A bridge between these different discourse approaches is provided by Sarangi & Roberts < 1999 < who show the connection between the larger institutional order and interactional routines, through an elaboration of frontstage talk and backstage talk following Goffman < 1959 < . An analysis of the interviews < frontstage talk < reveals "cultural fit" to involve a knowledge of institutional talk, in particular, directness. The recruiter commentary < backstage talk < draws attention to issues of intelligibility, body language, technical expertise and workplace values. the study shows that Indian Information Technologists have "partial fit" in that they possess technical fit but do not demonstrate, or lack the opportunity to demonstrate in the interview, Australian workplace values such as small talk, humour and informality. The recruiter judgments were fleeting and apart from checking for intelligibility, were made on the basis of candidates' body language thus highlighting its importance and its relative absence from the discourse approaches mentioned above. This study shows clearly that there is room for more communicative flexibility on the part of all the stakeholders.

The silence at trade shows: : A case study at Hannover Messe

Johansson, Daniel, Bengtsson, Nicklas January 2011 (has links)
This thesis studies the non-verbal communication such as the body language in the context of a trade show. The non-verbal communication is one of the primary conveyors of messages and trade shows are one of the major channels were firms attract new customers. However the combination of trade shows and non-verbal communication is overlooked. The method consists of interviews with visitors and observations of the booths and the visitors. The setting was chosen as the annual Hannover Messe were five booths of Swedish firms were studied. The result indicates that firms can further improve their body language. Suggested improvements involve to not having the sales representative work in the booth. This is remarked as a taboo by authors within the area; still this action commonly occurs. The booth design plays a prominent role in the visitor interactions so does the staffing. The way to approach a visitor is not differing much between the booths in the study however there are three possible ways to physically approach visitors as a sales representative. The best way has not been established and the visitor interviews gave a mixed result regarding this matter. Although the best way is not found all observed booths missed out on dialogs with prospective customers much due to that full attention was not directed towards the visitors. The authors want to emphasis on the adaptation towards visitor as an important pawn in the exhibiting, some sales representatives automatically does this.

A majority of women : A quantitative study of images and authors on Aftonbladet’s weight site from a gender perspective

Rätzer, Sarah, Håkansson, Karolin January 2012 (has links)
We have investigated the visual representation of men and women in Aftonbladet’s weight site. We have made a calculation of how many of the women and the men who were portrayed smiling/ not smiling, active/passive, looking into the camera/looking away from the camera and from which camera angle the picture is taken. We also kept statistic on the gender representation of the authors of the articles. Our investigation shows that Aftonbladet’s weight site has a distinct overrepresentation of women on their pictures, but also in terms of the authors of the articles. All of the authors were women and 78 percent of the pictures were pictures of women. Previous scientific results have shown that women often are depicted as passive, smiling and looking into the camera and men as active, serious and looking away from the camera. Our results were consistent with earlier scientific results, but in terms of activity and visual angle the results were not that different between women and men. As for the viewing perspectives, our study shows that the power relationship between the depicted and the viewer often is equal for both women and men. The power relationship is however more equal for women than for men, the power relationship for the men is more complex. The viewer both looks down on the men and looks up to them. Based on the theory of the viewing perspectives, Aftonbladet’s weight site portrays women as more equal to the viewer than men.

Das nonverbale Verhalten des ecuadorianischen Präsidenten Rafael Correa - Eine Analyse mit dem Schwerpunkt Geschlecht und soziale Hierarchie

Müller, Olga 06 August 2015 (has links) (PDF)

"What does drottningen heta?" : En studie om engelsklärares kommunikation vid engelskundervisning

Hermann, Linn, Stål, Linda January 2014 (has links)
The aim of this study is to investigate English teachers’ communication when teaching English in grade three in Swedish schools. The investigation seeks to find out what language is, and why it is, dominant and how the proportions in the teachers’ uses of English and Swedish in time are distributed. The study also describes what attitudes teachers have to the English language and if, if so how, two categories of strategies, namely body language and code switching are used. The study was performed in two steps with different methods for collection of qualitative empirical data. The collection of the empirical data was carried out in structured observations and in structured interviews with four English teachers of whom two work in so called free and independent schools and two work in public schools. To obtain a complete picture of teachers’ English teaching the observations were conducted first to be followed by an additional interview. The results show that two of four English teachers dominantly speak English. The teachers’ motives for using English as educational language are that students need to hear the second language early to learn it. The teachers also report that code switching between Swedish and English and teaching in pupils’ levels help pupils to understand are motives for using Swedish as educational language. Several English teachers find it difficult to teach in the target language and they are therefore feeling an uncertainty in teaching English. Body language is more widely used by English teachers teaching in their second language. The English teacher, who speaks more English when teaching, use body language most frequently and teachers who have Swedish as the dominant language of instruction use code switching more often. Teachers' reasoning about the use of body language and code switching are for some knowingly and some unknowingly and is used by all respondents to illustrate and clarify. The teachers believe that there are both pros and cons of using code switching. Results also show that teachers who have worked the shortest time as an English teacher and work at free schools use English in English teaching to a greater extent than teachers who have taught English some time and work at public schools.

Nonverbal behaviour in the process of the therapeutic interview : an ecosystemic perspective

Scott, Sybil 11 1900 (has links)
Communication can be divied into two broad areas namely, the verbal and nonverbal levels. While attention has been paid to nonverbal communication in the literature, few studies address the nonverbal communication that takes place in the natural setting of a therapeutic session. The present study provides such a naturalistic study, where the verbal content of actual therapy sessions are integrated with the nonverbal content to yield a holistic view of the session. An ecosystemic epistemology is adopted in this study, and represents a move away from more traditional approaches to nonverbal behaviour which are largely confined to a positivistic framework of thought and design. Symlog Interaction Scoring is employed as a practical method of assisting observers in distinguishing nonverbal behaviours, which are usually perceived unconsciously, and lifting them into consciousness, allowing this infonnation to be integrated with the meanings and hypotheses generated during therapy. By deliberately including descriptions of nonverbal behaviour, the descriptions of therapy were broadened, thereby providing a more holistic approach to therapy. / Psychology / M.A. (Clinical Psychology)

Förstärkande språkstrategier : En kvalitativ studie som beskriver fyra lärares förstärkande språkstrategier ur ett andraspråksperspektiv

Fernlund, Tove January 2017 (has links)
Since no teacher can learn all the languages of the world there is a need to find strategies to deal with students with different linguistic competences and conditions. In this essay, which I write under the Swedish teacher program at Örebro Univiersity, I will follow four teachers into their practice and search for tools they use to increase their chances to reach through to students in the Swedish middle school with Swedish as their second language. Using ethnographic and qualitative research methods I will present data from a video recorded material followed by an analysis based on a second language perspective. The material consists of video recordings from four different occasions where the teachers' initial and instructional monologues get caught. By using a multimodal approach my hope is to identify commonly occurring phenomena and describe how the differences in the use of these take place. I ask the following questions: • Are there any strategies that teachers use to clarify or strengthen their language teaching Swedish as a second language? • If there are, how do the teachers use them? Observation Schedule and categories are designed through the findings the film has provided and have come together in four main categories that are: body language, reformulations, repetitions and visual aids. From these categories data is gathered and the data shows how frequently these phenomena occur and how they are combined. In the result I discuss different sequences from the films that show examples that I find interesting with a descriptive purpose. In this essay I want to describe how a few Swedish teacher works through the linguistic barrier that the differences in competence in the same language cause.

Yeah Hillary, what happened? : A communications study of the second 2016 presidential debate in the USA

Lundmark, Victor January 2017 (has links)
This essay aims to analyze how Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump communicated verbally and non-verbally during the second presidential debate of the 2016 US election. To do this the essay utilizes a method focused on analyzing actio. The essay also analyses main trends in the rhetoric’s of the candidates. To aid the findings from this analysis the essay takes support from theories such as Impression management, footing, face as well as different theories in representation, including stereotypes, gender in politics and the construction of otherness. The results that the study reached where that very little critic could be raised towards Clinton's actio except for questioning how effective her choice to face the live audience instead of the tv audience was. That only a few major errors could be found in Clinton's actio & her rhetoric as well, was theorized to be due to the stark contrast of her errors against Trump's which many times where a lot worse. The study also found some similarities in how to candidates used similar rhetorical and, to some extent, actio techniques to compel their audience, thou stark differences could be found in the execution of said techniques. Further the study could not point to any definite female or male use of body language, but theorized that this is due to the nature of a political debate and how Clinton might have adapted to the male dominated world of politics. Finally, in the end discussion a speculation was raised that whoever the audience perceived as a “winner” of the debate came down largely to pre-perceived notions of each candidate at least when it came to body language and rhetoric.

Avatar Body Language : Supporting Emotive Communication in Virtual Environments / Avatarers kroppsspråk : Stöd för känslobetonad kommunikation i virtuella miljöer

Bandelin, Jakob January 2010 (has links)
This thesis tells the story of a design case creating an user interface for a MMORPG where the player are able control the body language of the avatar. By this the game can achieve a gameplay about drama and strong characterization. The thesis addresses considerations on what aspects of body language that can be important for computer games and other virtual environments. It also offers design considerations when designing interfaces for using gestures and other body signals to communicate emotions in virtual environments such as computer games. The main design consideration when creating the interface was to treat the player as an actor and the game world as a stage. The player needs to be in control of combinations of facial expressions, body posture and gestures as well as relative avatar positioning to other characters and objects. The interface was first tested as a paper prototype, re-designed, re-tested and then implemented into a computer prototype.
