The purpose with this study is to examine the description of native Americans in two novels, Old Surehand part 1 and 2 by the German author Karl May. By using a postcolonial theory, descriptions of people from different Native American nations have been studied, to see how these are portrayed by May and if there are any differences between the descriptions of different nations. The results of this study have shown that the descriptions differ between different native American nations. The Apache are positively defined, and the narrated picturesare clearly influenced by the description of the figure Winnetou, the chief of the Apache and a good friend to the main character Old Shatterhand. Other nations can be narrated as enemies and as warlike. They become however more positively pictured when they create a contact with and befriend Old Shatterhand, where the Comanche Nation can be seen as such an example. The descriptions of the native Americans are focused on their looks and appearance,as well as their traits and qualities, and are often rendered stereotyped. Finally, it becomes clear that a postcolonial perspective emerges, in which characters aredivided into “the own” and “the others”. However, it is not uncommon for the maincharacter Old Shatterhand, to have a seemingly positive bias in reaching out to the Native Americans. When that occurs, he is actually acting against a post-colonial stance.

Beroende på lärares ämnes- och kunskapssyn kan de välja bort eller prioritera delar som de själva anser bör inkluderas i undervisningssammanhang. Tidigare forskning visar att litteraturundervisningen genom tiden har färgats av en kunskapssyn där läsning ska bidra till att utveckla elevernas personlighet, att skapa goda medborgare och att den litteratur som ska läsas i skolan bör bidra till elevernas fortsatta utveckling att ”göra rätt”. Det har även framkommit att litteraturen har en självklar plats i det gemensamma läsandet bland barn och vuxna på förskolan medan det på mellan- och högstadiet har förvandlats till en självgående aktivitet med få tillfällen till samtal. Fokus för denna litteraturdidaktiska studie var att undersöka vilken kunskapssyn lärare, som idag undervisar i förskoleklass till årskurs 3, bär med in i litteraturundervisningen och undersöka hur litteraturundervisningen ser ut bland dessa årskurser. Detta genom att besvara frågeställningarna: Vilka arbetssätt är vanligast förekommande i förbindelse med litteraturundervisningen i åk F-3? Vilken litteratur används i lärarledd undervisning? Vilken kunskapssyn på litteraturundervisningen ger lärarna uttryck för? Val av metod för denna studie var en enkätundersökning med en svarsfrekvens på 111 svar. Enligt de resultat som framkom i studien, bär lärare med sig den erfarenhetspedagogiska kunskapssynen in i litteraturundervisningen. Detta innebär att lärare i arbetet med litteratur utgår från elevernas intresse och erfarenheter och utformar innehållet efter deras behov och önskemål. Undertale1 is a computer game developed by Toby Fox. The game was published in 2015 and received a positive reception. The purpose of this essay is to investigate how Undertale tells his story. This is done through narrative analysis with a focus on focalizations and narrator positions. The essay touches on how text, image and sound are used in different ways as narrative instances. Furthermore, the essay sheds light on how intertextuality and metatextuality are used in the narrative. This is also discussed in relation to the reader's and narrator's positions. The essay finds that Undertale can be described as a postmodern work in which conventional reader and narrator position is challenged. In this essay, Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy is analysed through a moral perspective, with a focus on experimentalism and rationalism as presented by Christopher W. Gowans. Furthermore, the application of the novel and its connection to morality in the EFL classroom is discussed, as well as the possibility of introducing fanfiction in the classroom. The main conclusion that could be drawn is that the same action could be either moral or immoral depending on one’s view of morality. The results also indicate that Rose choosing her duty to Lissa over her love for Dimitri was a morally correct decision though it the morality in her having to choose at all is questionable. Furthermore, the results illustrate that compulsion can be moral or immoral depending on why it is used and that it is difficult for the antagonist to be morally correct. It was also concluded that the novel can act as a buffer between the student and the real world and thereby be a starting point for moral discussions in the classroom.

Studiens syfte är att med avseende på skönlitterär läsning undersöka relationen mellan inre och yttre motivation. För att samla in data genomfördes semistrukturerade intervjuer med sex verksamma svensklärare. Insamlat material analyserades dels utifrån en diskursanalys där lärarna resonerade om sin egen roll som motivationsfaktor, dels utifrån Deci och Ryans självbestämmandeteori och dess tillhörande begrepp självbestämmande, kompetens och meningsfullhet (2017). Resultatet visar att yttre motivationsfaktorer ofta är en förutsättning för att väcka elevernas inre motivation. Lärarna har en likvärdig syn på vad som ryms inom motivationsbegreppet men har olika syn på hur motivation skapas. Vidare visar resultaten att lärarna inte låter elevernasjälva välja vad de vill läsa (självbestämmande) men att detta inte har en negativ påverkan på elevernas motivation. Lärarna arbetar med att motivera eleverna och anpassa undervisningen utefter elevernas behov (kompetens) samt med att låta eleverna samtala om litteraturen (meningsfullhet).

La novela El beso de la mujer araña de Manuel Puig trata sobre dos presos que comparten la misma celda en una cárcel bonaerense durante la dictadura militar argentina. El texto se presenta en su mayor parte como un diálogo entre Molina, un homosexual de edad media, y Valentín, un joven militante de la izquierda. En el presente estudio se emplea el paradigma mimético de René Girard para analizar el deseo amoroso del personaje Valentín. A través de la utilización de la hermenéutica como método de interpretación del texto, nuestra tesina sostiene que el deseo de Valentín refleja su necesidad de trascendencia, que finalmente alcanza al término de la obra.

In the aftermath the 25th January Revolution of 2011, two Egyptian dystopian novels stand out as particularly relevant: Utopia (2008) by Ahmed Khaled Towfik, and The Queue (2013), by Basma Abdel Aziz. Due to the absence of studies that pay attention to how gender relations are portrayed in Arabic dystopian novels, this study focuses on the literary representation of men and masculinities in Utopia and The Queue. This thesis uses narratology and content analysis in order to show that, although patterns of local masculinities are different in both novels, regional and global models of masculinity clearly point out men as controlling, violent and hypersexual, which is supported by multiple institutions, such as the state, media, and the religious establishment. The inclusion of relevant ethnological studies of masculinities in Egypt confirms that the social criticism of the novels include gender relations, and refers to the time in which the novels were written. This study points out the need for recognizing Arabic dystopian fiction as a valuable instrument that carries meaningful and intricate social criticism, as well as the need for the inclusion of gender as a category of literary analysis.
