A Visualization Tool for Drill Rig Simulators used in Software Development / ETT VISUALISERINGSVERKTYG FÖR BORRIGSSIMULATORER ATTANVÄNDA I MJUKVARUUTVECKLING

Larsson, Mikael January 2010 (has links)
Boomer is a machine that is developed and produced by Atlas Copco Rock Drills AB, which is used for underground mining and tunneling. It is a blast-hole drilling rig equipped with drills that are attached to the arms, called booms, which the rig holds. The machine is controlled and monitored by Atlas Copco’s Rig Control System (RCS), which consists of a number of intelligent units connected in a CAN-net. When developing software for the RCS, a simulator that makes it possible to run the software on an ordinary desktop PC is used. The problem is that there is no intuitive way to see how the booms are oriented, while positioning. Therefore it is desirable to have a 3D visualization of the rig, with focus on the booms, which can be used alongside the simulator to get immediate feedback about the movements of the booms. This report describes the process of developing an application that handles communication with the simulator and the 3D visualization.

Blom, Marcus, Hammar, Kim January 2016 (has links)
Failures in networks that reside in business environments cause harm to organizations depending on them. Every minute of inoperativety is hurtful and as a network adminstrator you want to minimize the rates of failures as well as the time of inoperation. Therefore, a fruitful network monitoring system is of great interest for such organizations. This bachelor’s thesis is the outcome of a pre-study performed on behalf of MIC Nordic and sought to advice them in the implementation of a new monitoring system. The aim of this study was to investigate how a Network Operation Center (NOC) can be implemented in an existing monitoring environment, to integrate current monitoring systems to a central point for monitoring. This study takes an holitstic approach to network management and the research can be divided into two main categories: Communication between network components and Presentation of information. Our process involves an analysis of the environment of MIC Nordic and an in depth inquiry on the current state of network monitoring and interface design. The study then culminates in the implementation of a prototype. The prototype serves in first hand as a research tool to collect experience and empirical evidence to increase the crediblity of our conclusions. It is also an attempt of demonstrating the complete process behind developing a NOC, that we believe can fill a gap among the previous research in the field. From our results you can expect a prototype with functionality for monitoring network components and a graphical user interface (GUI) for displaying information. The results are designed towards solving the specific network management problem that was given and the environment that it concerns. This pre-study suggests that the best solution for implementing a NOC in the given environment is to use SNMP for communication. From an investigation on how to present network management information in a effective way we propose to follow a user-centered approach and to utilize human perception theory in the design process. The authors recommend further research that maintain the holistic approach but applies more quantitative methods to broaden the scope.

Kilic, Türkbey January 2017 (has links)
Sofiaängen is a psychotherapeutic day school and school located at Södermalm in Stockholm. Sofiaängen is aimed at young people between 13-20 years with mental and social problems. Sofiaängen needed a complete journal system to facilitate their work routines with records of patient treatments. Their current system is not completed and needed further development. Thus, the work was divided into two parts, first to develop a proposal for a general process model for managing an unfinished IT system to the academy and then to deliver a fully functioning journal system for Sofiaängen. The thesis has resulted in a proposal for a general process model for handling unfinished projects as well as a fully functioning journal system for Sofiaängen, which can be put into operation immediately.

Do Widget Libraries Need Mutable Data?

Arumugasamy, Akshay Kumar 11 1900 (has links)
This thesis examines trends in the academic and professional literature around immutable data and its relationship with declarative User Interfaces (UIs). Immutable data types are preferred by academic authors due to their increased safety, and commercial languages are increasing their support for them over time. More recently, declarative UIs are an exploding topic in industry, and these are related, although not as closely as one would expect. Declarative programming tries to focus on highlevel requirements, not low-level details. It is easier to do this if functions have no side effects, and immutable data is a guaranteed way of achieving this. To highlight this property, the declarative UI framework Flutter advertises “stateless widgets”, but their existence puts in highlights the lack of this property in most widgets. Consequently, we ask whether it is feasible to build a Graphical User Interface (GUI) toolkit using purely immutable data structures. To accomplish this objective, a purely immutable GUI toolkit is sketched and partially developed using Elm, a purely functional language in which all data structures are immutable. To understand the requirements of a GUI toolkit, we categorize and put in historical context, different design paradigms for UIs and relate them to core software-design principles. Leading toolkits allow developers to visualize and manage multiple views of their interfaces, including the view hierarchy, layout, interface to business logic, and focus management. By creating a concrete example, the research aims to provide insight into the limitations of utilizing purely immutable data within a GUI framework and suggests future work to mitigate these. / Thesis / Master of Science (MSc)

Utveckling av GUI utifrån en given affärsprocess

Stoor, John-Bernhard January 2016 (has links)
Preem is a Swedish company that operates in the oil industry, which is controlled by very high sales and with relatively small margins. It’s therefore essential with a well working stock control. Today they are looking for a better way of monitoring the stock with a higher precision and therefore they need a new system for that. My role at Preem was to take a closer look at the GUI and the processes behind that. It resulted in this thesis that includes the user interface for the new system and the business processes that are linked to this. The work will focus on how these two methods are produced in relation to each other, and the methods that are used to construct them. The thesis includes illustrations of as-is and to-be process models of the BPMN specification, wireframes and a sitemap. This report shows a proposal of an integrating system and an intuitive GUI with new processes, at Preem, and how the balance is between creating business processes and a graphical user interface out of each other, depending on the people who are involved in the project.

Mapping and Visualisation of the Patient Flow from the Emergency Department to the Gastroenterology Department at Södersjukhuset / Kartläggning samt visualisering av patientflöden från akuten till gastroenterologiavdelningen på Södersjukhuset

Tran, Quoc Huy Martin, Ronström, Carl January 2020 (has links)
The Emergency department at Södersjukhuset currently suffers from very long waiting times. This is partly due to problems within visualisation and mapping of patient data and other information that is fundamental in the handling of patients at the Emergency department. This led to a need in the creation of improvement suggestions to the visualisation of the patient flow between the Emergency department and the Gastroenterology department at Södersjukhuset. During the project, a simulated graphical user interface was created with the purpose of mimicking Södersjukhusets current patient flow. This simulated user interface would visualise the patient flow between the Emergency department and the Gastroenterology department. Additionally, a patient symptoms estimation algorithm was implemented to guess the likelihood of a patient being admitted to a department. The result shows that there are many possible improvements to Södersjukhusets current hospital information system, TakeCare, that would facilitate the care coordinators work and in turn lower the waiting times at the Emergency department.

A DISTRIBUTED NETWORK ARCHITECTURE FOR PC-BASED TELEMETRY SYSTEMS

Windingland, Kim L. 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 28-31, 1996 / Town and Country Hotel and Convention Center, San Diego, California / The ever-increasing power of PC hardware combined with the new operating systems available make the PC an excellent platform for a telemetry system. For applications that require multiple users or more processing power than a single PC, a network of PCs can be used to distribute data acquisition and processing tasks. The focus of this paper is on a distributed network approach to solving telemetry test applications. This approach maximizes the flexibility and expandability of the system while keeping the initial capital equipment expenditure low.

A failure in these applications can cause financial loss, so it is essential to ensure their quality. One way to achieve this goal is through software testing. Although the testing activities bring many benefits, they add cost to a software development project, which should be reduced. A strategy used for this is testing automation. Repetitive and error prone activities are strong candidates to be automated, among them we can mention the test cases generation. The Web Guitar tool enables the generation and execution of test cases from the structural model of Web application under test. This model presents problems related to its accuracy. Thus, this work proposes its evolution aiming to increase the number of generated test cases and improve their quality. As contribution, a new version of Web Guitar tool was implemented to sweep a web application identifying new GUI elements and visiting different instances of a same page in order to provide a more complete model. The results obtained in a case study performed with two Web applications, System to Support PPGI/UFAM and DiskTransito, provided evidence of the feasibility of this work, since the proposed tool (WG-Modified) contributed to the generation of a greater number of test cases for System to Support PPGI/UFAM, despite its execution time exceed the time calculated for the original tool. When analyzing the time required to generate each test case, WG-Modified was more efficient than its original version. However, the results of this study for the second application (DiskTransito) showed some problems and limitations that will be addressed in future works.
