This essay of master degree is the result of the research about crime and about the personality of the most famous criminal of Marília and region by means of Guaracy Marques Pinto‟ story, known for Pé-de-Veludo, a criminal who praticted a lot of theft in the city of Marília; among 1958 and 1964, date which happened his death. : about Pey de Garros and Montaigne’s linguistic imaginary

Couffignal, Gilles Guilhem 29 November 2014 (has links)
When he published Psaumes viratz (1565) then Poesias gasconas (1567), Pey de Garros (ca.1525-ca.1583) invented the notion of a specifically “Gascon” literature. A few years later, in his Essays (1580-1595), Montaigne (1553-1592) took up the issue of the “Gascon language” in his general reflexion on language and languages. These two authors have hitherto been viewed as part of two different fields: the history of Occitan literature and the history of French literature. The notion of a “Gascon language” helps bridge the gap between these two fields. In spite of the linguistic difference between writing in Occitan and writing in French, a specifically “Gascon” linguistic imaginary emerges out of the texts, and gives literary discourse its full meaning. In order to give flesh to this linguistic imaginary, a study in historical semantics is necessary, so as to understand what a “language” and its literary uses might have meant in the second half of the 16th century. As the various meanings which the “Gascon language” has got for these two authors are examined, the whole network of representations, figures and echos which haunt the texts is uncovered. Although they seemed to have very little in common, the works of Garros and Montaigne are actually linked by a shared linguistic imaginary, consisting in both outspoken claims and deep reflections on means of expression. At the same time, the analysis of the linguistic imaginaries illuminates the relation established by the text with the readers. The power of the linguistic imaginary to elicit a response depends on how it fits in with the readers’ own linguistic imaginaries. This is why a peripheral viewpoint, drawing attention to the issue of the “Gascon language”, makes it possible to read Psaumes viratz, Poesias gasconas and the Essays together.

Machado, Anderson dos Santos January 2015 (has links)
This paper analyzes the rhetoric on the covers of Mente e Cérebro Magazine (Brazilian version of Scientific American Mind magazine), to seek social representa-tions of brain on scientific publications. This study describes how the brain is present-ed in a symbolic articulation that we called symbiosis picture/word, to identify the persuasion strategies from the symbolic elements present in this joint, not according to value of truth in the discursive. Sought to evaluate how the brain is represented to society and if it is configured in this magazine chosen, not only as an organ of the body, but also as the core of the human subject, commanding emotions and con-trolling health and living, may be medicalized and conditioned to maximize the bio-logical life. It was intended contribute to the debate on the role of Biosciences in the social imaginary as truths producing device on health, illness and standardization of life and living in contemporary society. "One steps away from god" : an analysis of John Patrick Shanley's Doubt, a Parable through a hermeneutics of the imaginary

Fritsch, Valter Henrique January 2012 (has links)
John Patrick Shanley’s play Doubt - a Parable (2004) revisits the world he knew as a child, which is the Bronx of the 1960’s. The story centers upon a Catholic Irish-Italian school community, and the plot relates to a doubt - that grows into belief, and ends up as certainty - on the part of Sister Aloysius, the principal of the school, who is persuaded that Father Flynn, the vicar, has been harassing the only Black student in the school. The play is an open-ended construct, allowing each reader/spectator to build their own interpretation of the facts implied. Shanley is more than the author of the play. He has also worked as the producer of the play on the stage and he turned the story into a movie screenplay, Doubt, and has worked as a director to the movie. In this thesis I examine the strategies used by Shanley to keep the possibility of interpretation open as he translates his own work into different media, on the page, on the stage and on the screen. As I do that, I also consider the contemporary standards regarding issues as truth, doubt, certainty, especially as they constitute themselves aesthetically in the fictional world, thus reexamining the role of the author and the role of the reader in the process. So as to investigate the ideological constructions that define the elements of doubt and certainty I refer to the concept of “paradoxes of the imaginary” as proposed by Castor Bartolomé Ruiz (2003), with special attention to questions concerning the symbolism of doubt as perceived in Shanley.

Paparazzi on screen : Presence and disappearance of a photographer character in western fiction films and TV series (1940 – 2008).

Fossard, Aurore 10 June 2013 (has links)
Although the paparazzi is the poor relation in the history of photography, it is a precious source of inspiration for cinematographic and televisual fictions. Already a character before appearing on screen, the paparazzi establishes a tension, both narrative and visual, that encourages an exploration of its forms of representation. Supported by a collection of films and western television series, from 1940 to 2008, this work will identify and analyze the reoccuring ways in which the paparazzi is represented, from a socio-historical and cultural perspective. Seducer, savior… hunter, thief ? Returning to the imaginary world which surrounds the camera and the hybrid quality of its use allows one to understand how theimage of a « bad » photographer is built. Anonymous croud or main character in the story, half-animal, half-machine, the different faces of the paparazzi on screen both enlighten and threaten the star’s humanity. At a time when the chance of reaching celebrity status are as high as the odds of « acting like a paparazzi », works of fiction reveal a struggle to the deathin which each party fights for a new absolute value : visibility.

L’imaginaire et l’élément de l’eau dans le texte baroque (1580-1640) : Structures, motifs, rôles et valeurs / The imaginary and the element of water in the baroque text (1580-1640) : Structures, patterns, roles and values

Al Ali, Salam 06 October 2017 (has links)
The imbalance and the chaos in which Baroque man lived, changed his vision of his entourage and at the same time they excluded the gratuitousness of his actions. His fascinations are messages to be deciphered, his rejections and attachments represent revealing clues and testimonials. Our study tries to explain the reasons of the fascination of the baroque generation for the liquid element through the examination of the imaginary of its aspects in the baroque work. The imaginary or what Gilbert Durand calls "thought capital" of man is a hybrid organism, several factors participate in its structuring therefore its examination requires an interdisciplinary approach. Through cognitive science, that represent the future of research on the imagination according to Philippe Walter, this study tries to illuminate the Baroque Imagination through the examination of the value the element of water in the works published between 1580 and 1640. Our work uses four of the six cognitive sciences which are designated by Georges A. Miller and which establish interdisciplinary fields through their correlations. To explore the representations of this element with the Anthropology, philosophy, psychology, and linguistics are indispensable to the objective of offering them causal explanations. The baroque imagination is reconstituted in our work by combining these sciences with the disciplines of the history of art, literary criticism, folklore, ethnology, mythology, sociology, and the history of religions. Our work examines one of the aspects of nature in the baroque work. Through our analyzes we try to trace the being and the existence of baroque man through the manifestations of one of their components in the work of the latter. The element of water which is this component and it represents one of the aspects of nature. The problematic in our work is composed of a component that deals with the value of the element of water in the baroque work. The second part aims to prove that the 7 examination of the imaginary represents a tool that helps to identify the reliefs of a baroque text and a text with a similar structure with the latter, that is to say an incoherent structure and complex. Our research proposes a reading for the imaginary of the material in the literary text. Our study would like to demonstrate that distant and interactive examination of human acts and his works serves to identify their explanations; and that the examination of the imaginary of a work which represents an act of the imaginary of man serves to identify its implicit and the reasons for its creation, and the psychology that dominated the circumstances of its production.

Culturas Sexuais e ProteÃÃes ImaginÃrias: Juventudes Homossexuais Face ao HIV. / Sexual Cultures and Imaginary Protections: homosexual Youth Face to HIV.

Camila de Castro Pereira Costa 15 September 2010 (has links)
The aim of this study is to understand how certain trials related to the experience of sexuality for young gays, in Fortaleza - CearÃ, relate to the prevention of HIV/AIDS. To build an approach on this process, this research provides a general overview of the AIDS epidemic in the world and a brief social history of the pathways of the disease in Brazil. It also addresses some issues about the politics of control and counter of HIV/AIDS in Fortaleza, especially in relation to gay groups and other Men who have Sex with Men. To understand how the prevention of STD/HIV/AIDS relates to the experiences of homosexual youths, I try to rebuild from sexual scripts and narratives brought by several young people interviewed and heard, how the identification, sociability and practices involve juvenile and sexual cultures to think of the possibilities that shape certain trials of sexuality and prevention

What do you see? : revaluation of standards and the Harry Potter Saga

Nunes, Lisia Cristina Paiva Nunes January 2010 (has links)
The Harry Potter Books had their first instalment published in 1997 and the last in 2007. From the beginning, the series exerted a very strong appeal upon readers of all ages, and from all places. The aim of the present thesis is to investigate this phenomenon so as to identify some reasons why the response to the works has proved so intense. The corpus of investigation comprises the seven books that form the saga: Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The focus of the analysis closes upon three aspects, the journey of the hero, the different approaches to death, and the treatment of dichotomies. As for critical and theoretical support I rely on studies about mythology and the imaginary, especially as presented by Joseph Campbell, on Umberto Eco‟s moral and aesthetic considerations about the connections between the neighbouring realms of Life and Literature, and on Zygmunt Bauman's philosophical approach to our liquid contemporary times. The work is divided into two parts. The first presents the necessary contextualization, poses some hypotheses about the prompt acceptance on the part of the reading public, and exposes the theoretic background on which this thesis is grounded, and establishes the necessary connections with the points investigated. The second part contains my reading of the Harry Potter Books, closing on the three items to be analysed. At the end of this argumentative thesis I hope my analysis may contribute to the discussion about the role the Harry Potter Books play in their contemporary context, and about which of the current paradigms they ratify, question or deny.

Imaginários políticos e religiosos no sul da América Latina / Religious and political imaginaries in Southern Latin America

Meirelles, Mauro January 2011 (has links)
This thesis deals with encounters and approaches of political and religious imaginaries in Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay. Especially, this work focuses on the imbrications between political and religious fields on the occasion of electoral processes that took place in Porto Alegre (BR), Buenos Aires (AR) and Montevideo (UY), in 2008 and 2009. Also, we use the idea of a tetrahedral conceptual scheme (ETC) in which three considered variables interact, namely: the individual and collective representations (RIC), the individual and collective memory (MIC) and the religious and political imaginaries (IRP) which operate on a common medium that we call as “cisplatin” cultural matrix (MCC). In this sense, for the accomplishment of the present study we use multi-situated ethnography and constant insertions in field in the three mentioned cities, where we carried on interviews with individuals connected to different religious expressions and political tends. We were interested in understanding what are the common inputs existing in the three cities and to what extent they facilitate the process of religious transnationalization. Similarly, we are concerned to consider how religions that are understood as typically Brazilian, taken as they cross national boundaries toward Uruguay and Argentina, carry with themselves ways of being in the political, which in this places are reproduced within the networks of interaction between “pastores” and “pais-de-santo” of these three countries.
