The myth of the vampire and blood imagery in Bram Stoker's DraculaZanini, Claudio Vescia January 2007 (has links)
No terceiro capítulo ofereço minha leitura do romance, na qual identifico e analiso imagens e símbolos do Sangue presentes no romance. / The aim of this thesis is to present a reading of Dracula, published in 1897 by the Irish author Bram Stoker. The purpose of the investigation is to identify the predominant archetypes and images in Dracula, showing to what extent they represent relevant issues to Victorian society and the audiences the novel has had since then. The work is published in a crucial historical moment, during which the British traditional rural values are replaced by modern and urban ones. A major consequence of such a transition is a drastic change in the British behavioral code. Several elements in such a transformation can be identified in Stoker’s novel, and the eagerness with which the work was accepted by Victorian audiences is a symptom of the needs that resulted from the excessive repression from that period. The analysis of the archetype of the vampire and the archetypal images presented in Dracula unfolds predominantly through the examination of the psychological and anthropological implications connected to blood imagery. The main theoretical tools come from the studies of Carl Gustav Jung and Gilbert Durand. The thesis is subdivided in three chapters. In the first part of chapter one I present some contextualization referring to certain phenomena perceived in the Victorian society, mainly the ones regarding the gender implications in the behavioral code of the time, and in the second part I present contextualization connected to historical characters who influenced Bram Stoker in the creation of his main character. In chapter two I present the theoretical approach, introducing the concepts defined by Jung upon which the reading in chapter 3 is based. I also analyze symbols, images and archetypes in Dracula according to the orders of the image proposed by Durand. In chapter three I offer my reading, identifying and analyzing blood images and symbols in the novel. In the conclusion, I present the final considerations, with the purpose of ratifying the strong bonds connecting the underlying meanings present in the novel and the life experience of the audience, having as a basis the myth of the vampire and its association to the blood imaginary, in an attempt to explain the successful and continuous reception of the novel.

This investigation had as starting point the empiric verification that there was, in the pages of newspapers and magazines that circulated during a period of the Brazilian military regime, a seemingly paradoxical process of “publishing of the forbidden”. That press notes, references and critics about many interdictions of censorship has its explanation in the fact that two different mechanisms of censor performance existed. One of them, the control of shows done by DCDP, Divisão de Censura de Diversões Públicas (Division of Censorship of Public Amusements), was characterized by the public profile, by the “opening” tendency. The other surveillance type, that followed the press and was accomplished by SIGAB, had as main characteristic the anonymity of its activities. As the secrecy was a specificity of the censorship towards the press, countless references regarding censorship were so explained. This, because all of them concerned the transparent control of public amusements (movies, theater, music, radio, tv). After identified the ethos distinction of the “two censorships”, we looked for its justifications, which involve a explanation sustained on two axles of reflection: the difference of legal legitimacy regarding the censorships towards the press and the public amusements and, moreover, the differences of social legitimacy and civilian support to the censorship interventions of political nature and of those with emphasis on morals and good habits.

Buscamos defender a tese
Ressaltamos a
especificamente, no gênero História Oral Temática.
As constatações incorporam narrativas
This research is in line research Environmental Education Non-Formal and aims at
investigating the oral history of handmade fishermen of Rio Grande / RS, within the context
of popular solidarity economy, in order to comprehend the images that integrate your work
process. We seek to defend the thesis that states, in summary, that oral history is constituted as
a field of possibilities for understanding the images of the working process of traditional
fishermen, being understood as a fundamental premise for reflection on the fundamentals of
environmental education related context study of handmade fisheries. In this perspective, the
oral history can be understood as a learning process in Environmental Education. The
research is justified because of the importance that the record of the oral history of handmade
fishers assumes the construction of alternatives and environmental education projects that aim
at sustainable management of the coastal environment. We emphasize the use of a qualitative
approach, focusing on the methodology of oral history, specifically the gender thematic oral
history. For the interpretation of the phenomena investigated, we chose to analyze textual
discourse. The data are made up of interviews with three fishermen from the Association of
Fishermen's Village São Miguel, located in Rio Grande, and observations recorded in Field
Journal. The study was based on the theoretical contributions of authors such as Gaston
Bachelard, Antonio Diegues, Ricardo Antunes and Carlos Frederico Loureiro, among others.
We emphasize that the debate includes the understanding of the following categories of
analysis of research: research into childhood pictures, images of hope, as well as the images
on the coastal environment built by fishermen cooperatives. In addition, we present the study
as emerging categories in relation to historical contextualization handmade and industrial
fisheries in the context of Rio Grande focusing, in particular, the benefits of the tax incentives
provided by Decree-Law number 221 of 1967, also includes discussion on the direction of
technology in its relation to the process of exploitation of labor in handmade fisheries. The
findings incorporate narratives that express the images of complaints in relation to the
expansion of environmental degradation of the coastal environment and the intensification of
the processes of labor exploitation of professional craftsmanship from its articulation with the
fisheries sector corporate-capitalist. However, we emphasize the construction of images
expressing the hope of strengthening work on your system, in which we place the popular
social economy as an imperative for professional development and improving their quality of
life.

This paper discusses the presence of the regionality and the universality in the work Sagarana, by João Guimarães Rosa. Therefore, it uses theoretical principles from the studies on social imaginary and cultural identity, intending to analyze the contribution of imaginary and identity elements for constructing the regionality of the fictional universe represented, as well as for expressing its intended universality. It examines several forms of symbolic representations valued in the region and the way they enclose aspects of universality, translated into literary language. It´s an interdisciplinary discussion concerning Literature, Sociology and Anthropology, which is connected to the regionality studies.

Para a compreensão desta dicotomia, analisou-se os contextos onde ambas foram produzidas / Abstract: Survey and analysis of the iconography of the Tietê river, observing the diversity of meanings of this river during its history and the corresponding plastic representations. The cartography of the first ¿monções¿ (expeditions over the Tietê river in the XVIII-th and XIX-th centuries) was briefly analyzed through the works of the traveling artists - in special those that had effectively portrayed the Tietê river, as Thomas Ender, William John Burchell, Aimé-Adrien Taunay and Hercule Florence, and of the local painters - Miguelzinho Dutra and Almeida Júnior. With focus on the question of the construction of Tietê imaginary from its iconography, it was emphasized the analysis of paintings portraying the ¿monções¿ that belong to the São Paulo Museum. Produced in the beginning of the XX-th century, these paintings had participated of a history construction project, having São Paulo as hegemonic reference and Affonso D'Escragnolle Taunay as mentor. The visual model of these paintings was the illustrations made during the Langsdorff Expedition and published in the book ¿Viagem Fluvial do Tietê ao Amazonas¿, by Hercule Florence. Despite the similar viewing, the two iconographies present different meanings: Florence¿s are visual chronics of a specific scientific expedition (Langsdorff¿s) and São Paulo Museum¿s are orders for a historical museum that generalize all the ¿monções¿. To understand this dichotomy, the contexts where both had been produced were analyzed.

In this text I intend to analyse the construction of the public image of Jânio Quadros between 1959 and 1961. During this period he disputed the Brazilian presidential elections and ruled the country until his resignation to the presidency. According to the historiography - in a similar position when compared with positions commonly conveyed by the collective memory -, his personalism could be pointed out as the main factor to explain his political force, and political propaganda would help to build his prestige in a misleading way. Such point of view assumes that the Brazilian electorate was passive and naive, being easily manipulated by demagogues, which is a classical interpretation for politics in Latin America as a whole under the cover of the concept of populism. By trying to avoid this outlook, I suggest that the spectacle involving politics in those circunstances was also formed by relevant parts of the population, that is to say that members of different social groups made propaganda by themselves, writing and debating poetry, texts and songs with political themes. These aspects of the presidential campaign are studied through letters then received by Jânio Quadros from varied parts of Brazil and different social groups, as well as through political speechs, the press and the official propaganda organised by the Jânio Quadros Popular Movement. The analysis of these sources indicates how the mentioned leader was attached to political projects and how that was decisive to attract the support of the electorate in general, especially with the tradition of the Christian Democracy. In other words, his personalim just seems to have promoted him as he was associated with political proposals and practices, which were objects of discussion among the population. And since these considerations put some lights in the way Jânio Quadros was taken seriously by his electorate, I also try to show how problematic is the perspective that defends he resigned from presidency because lack of psychological equilibrium, searching to suggest that the political projects implemented by him may offer some clues about the motivations of such act / Doutorado / Politica, Memoria e Cidade / Doutor em História

Previous issue date: 2009-04-02 / It s known that the esthetic creation of diverse brazilian literature authors, has been the aim of study of several treatments, theoretic approach, critical and analytical, regarding its image content, symbolic and figurative. Although recurrent, the theoretic works that scrutinizes the animal figure, few productions are dedicated to its literary meaning, what, somehow, shows the lack of attention related to this issue. Without decreasing the importance of the traditional studies, that just presents the animal figure as own human s implicit form, this study tries to fill the critical lack, analyzing literary contemporaneous brazilian productions that contemplates the animal figure based in its symbolical aspects. Thus, as much of the imaginary and symbolism, arose in the bestiary medieval tradition, its recurrent found in the current literature, the following authors, of recognized prominence and importance in the context of national literature, were chosen to be analyzed: Moacyr Scliar and Manoel de Barros. So, there will be a descriptive, analytical, critical and interpretative study of the symbolical and imaginary presence of animals, respectively, in tales of O carnaval dos animais (1968) and in the poetry book Arranjos para assobio (1982), from its own distinction, its gender and its singularity, since each of this works, in addition being part of a particular historical context, it s marked by distinctive aspects of each author / Sabe-se que a criação estética de diversos autores da literatura brasileira tem sido alvo de estudos de variados tratamentos, abordagens teóricas e crítico-analíticas, no que diz respeito ao seu conteúdo imagético, simbólico e figurativo.

Previous issue date: 2016-06-10 / The following study consists in a sociological analysis about the production of manhood styles in
the universe of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), from an ethnographic research made with a group of
physical fight practitioners in the city named Goiânia-GO. Thus, it points out to the relevance of
consumption and the interference of the market in the construction of some symbolic repertoire
about manhood seen as essentials and/or primordials, discussing how the subjects seize and
embody such an imaginary thing amidst stress, ambivalences and disputes. The document is
organized into five chapters. In the first, I talk about the questionable utilization of physical
fights and martial arts as an invented tradition, as an orientalist play, in the configuration of
imaginary communities. In the second, I talk about the appearance of MMA coming from the
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), giving focus to historical and sociological aspects that
takes part in the symbolic economy in which establishes some manly speeches that are important
for involved agents with the dynamic of manhoods in question. The third chapter brings thoughts
about implied codes to the expression of manhoods in the universe of fighters where it was
realized the field research, emphasizing the usage of signs associated to the genre relations with
the production of relevant styles of the habitus of fighters. I develop discussions about the
acceptance of the speech of order and the discipline of the contributors in the fourth chapter, in
order to determine how interactions with women and other manhoods go through the influence
of conservative opinion; and how much this dynamic is responsible for the creation of conflicts
in this universe. The fifth chapter talks about the biographies of iconic fighters in several levels
of the field topology embodied by fighters and referees that take part of the cultural goods
market around MMA and UFC. So I posit that the fight that brought the thoughts about
manhoods in this study highlights the stress around the sexuality, of questions related to family
and to work; and before it means a sportivization, it indicates an intense civilizing process, as it
allows the fruition an uncontrolled control of the emotions and makes evident tools of social
control. The respect and affection of traditional institutes like family and heterosexuality, like the
possibility of social ascension through MMA, require from the fighters a self-sacrifice that
reinstalls in the contemporaneous scenario the perspective of the individual discipline as a
resource to the success. This process allow us to imply that dynamics and rhetoric of market
(re)products styles of manhoods seen as “non corruptible” by the present day, such elements
being appropriate by interested agents in the symbolic capital that is inherent in the form of
disputes for hegemony.

disputas. O texto está organizado em cinco capítulos. No primeiro, discorro sobre a problemática
das lutas corporais e das artes marciais enquanto tradição inventada utilizada, enquanto peça
orientalista, na conformação de comunidades imaginadas. No segundo, abordo o surgimento do
MMA a partir do Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), focando aspectos históricos e
torno do MMA e do UFC.

Previous issue date: 2016-06-30 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / This dissertation analyzes the phenomenon of emotional brands, built and managed by
the Emotional Branding (GOBÉ, 2002; ROBERTS, 2005), from the perspective of its
participation in culture and in its role as main identity references in a postmodern cultural
context characterized by a global semantic discursive network (BAUMAN,
2001; LIPOVETSKY; SERROY, 2011) guided by the consumerist (BAUMAN, 2007;
LIPOVETSKY, 2007; CAMPBELL, 2006) and narcissistic (ibid; LASCH,
1970) behavior emphasized in the virtualization of the real (BAUDRILLARD, 1991). As
a result of a long historical process, these brands deepened their symbolic nature to the
point of becoming Simulacra of individuals (simulacrum-goods) and the key postmodern
technologies of the imaginary (SILVA, 2006), or devices for the creation and dispersion
of imaginaries. By this nature, they offer consumerist imaginaries and discourses,
strategically cut out as persona via anthropomorphization, to be absorbed by the selfs of
subject-commodities (BAUMAN, 2007) in the existential market of consumers society
(ibid.), which calls for the constant renewal of identities and subjectivities under idealized
forms created through the incorporation of discourses and symbols found in goods. Since
they're major representatives of this category, we believe that emotional brands can
provide these identity kits like no other in this postmodern society where consumption
and identity renewal must be permanent and the contact with the otherness and the real is,
however, discouraged. These brands offer, as virtual entities, idealized identity references
and, as technologies of the imaginary, ideal ambiences for experiencing them, since, at
the same time that they supply with symbolic content and affection the empty public and
intimate spaces, they sustain the existential bubble that the individuals, the postmodern
Narcisus, grow around themselves. This research seeks to describe them as technologies
capable of significantly influencing in this context of social breakdown and consumerism,
the identities and subjectivities, highlighting the importance of studies on this topic.
consumista (BAUMAN, 2007; LIPOVETSKY, 2007; CAMPBELL, 2006) e narcisista
(ibidem; LASCH, 1970) enfatizado nos processos de virtualização do real
(BAUDRILLARD, 1991).
