Relationship Status: It's Complicated - The Role of Narcissism in the Development of Relationships Through Facebook

Saad, Michael 13 September 2012 (has links)
The presence of both narcissism and social capital in the digital social networking site Facebook is altering the dynamic of relationship development. Therefore, the central research question directing this study is as follows: What role do narcissistic personality traits play in bridging social capital on Facebook? From this, two sub-questions are raised: 1) What are the motives for users to express narcissistic traits through Facebook? 2) How is narcissistic-motivated activity influencing social capital development through Facebook? Guiding this thesis are concepts of social tie relationships (as they apply to narcissism), and digital social networks. An exploratory study of in-depth interviews was utilized to conduct such research. A key objective in this thesis is understanding motive and purpose for generating social capital in an online environment. The findings from this study suggest Facebook is a facilitator for the expression of narcissistic traits. As a result, this is influencing the disconnected and questionable value of digital social capital.

Réflexions sur le jeu croisé des pouvoirs et des responsabilités dans les groupes de sociétés : essai en droit du travail / Perspectives on the interplay between powers and responsabilities in group of companies : employment law essay

Chatard, Damien 24 March 2012 (has links)
At a time of globalization of economic relations, strategic decisions have to be made on the highest level, that is, on the group's level. However, french employment law, which was built up around the paradigm of the employee's legal subordination to the employer, disregards the latter's economic or even legal dependence on other legal entities. Yet in such a situation, an employer's strategic choices may well be influenced or even dictated. Thus showing through are the outlines of an external decision-maker, third-party to the contractual relationship, who nonetheless influences the performance of the employment relationships within the group. This dichotomy in the decision-making process should not correlatively incur total oblivion as to the rightful responsibilities. Accordingly, without overriding the legal autonomy of corporate bodies, the legal consequences should be adapted so that everyone takes responsibility for their decisions.

Science et politique des "soft skills" de l'éducation à l'emploi : sociologie d'un nouveau motif cognitif international / Soft skills’ science and policy, from education to the workplace : sociology of a new international cognitive motive

Maire, Sarah 16 November 2018 (has links)
This doctoral thesis studies the relationships between science and policy through the emergence of the new concept of “soft skills”. Examining how this cognitive motive is built and disseminated at a global level over the last decade, this research shows the essential roles played by experts and international organizations, as well as by entrepreneurs and private networks. These circulations lead to a gradual convergence of actors upon a shared reasoning in the field of education and employment policies. Conducted in France, the second part of the research shows how these dynamics fit in the context of public policies’ reconfigurations. New frames emerge, tightly linked to the growing influence of new actors coming from the fields of philanthropy and social entrepreneurship. Nested in the promotion of human capital and the knowledge economy, justified by the European strategy of lifelong learning and social investment, and by corporate social responsibility claimed by companies, soft skills are growingly promoted. This leads to a gradual hybridization of policies and their actors, studied in the last part of the research which based upon study cases of educational programs.

The corpus is: O Senhor Meu Marido, Trinta e Sete Noites de Paixão and Este Leito que É o Meu que É o Teu. The object is the representation of the conjugal conflict, ignited by sex, as a microform of the state of isolation and alienation of contemporary western society. The family home is set as a battle arena of the man-woman relationship and allegory takes form by literary resources that aim for a verisimilar display of the characters s drama. That s where it resides its mimetic power. The analysis of allegory and satire, by the deductive and comparative method, is based on the theoretical body of João Adolfo Hansen, as the assessing concerning the mimetic aspect of the stories are grounded on Erich Auerbach and Luiz Costa Lima. Appreciations of the orality in phrasal construction borrow notions of Paul Zumthor. The interpretations of the characters as living forms of allegory are based on works of Fernando Segolin, Gerard Genétte and Vladmir Propp. With the objective of comprehension of the stories s logical structure, the concept of motive in Tzvetan Todorov is also quoted / Discute os conceitos de alegoria, sátira, paródia, oralidade e mimese em Literatura, enfocando três contos da coletânea Guerra Conjugal (1969), de Dalton Trevisan.

An implementation model for strategic organizational change in Ethiopian commercial banks

Getahun Mekonnen Belay 02 1900 (has links)
The issue of successful implementation of strategic organizational change is not sufficiently addressed in the literature of organizational change even though there is unanimity in reporting a high rate of failure. Moreover, attempts to provide supportive guidelines that enhance implementation success are meager and their validity in nonwestern contexts is disputed. Thus, the present study tried to address the question of how a strategic organizational change can be successfully implemented by developing an implementation model within the context of Ethiopian commercial banks. In Ethiopia, commercial banking is exclusively reserved for nationals. This makes the setting a typical national context from where two commercial banks were included in the present study through maintaining maximum variation in ownership structure. Embedded in each bank, cases of teams which were established to redesign a specific type of business process were identified to theoretically sample participants for the indepth interviews. Applying an inductive multiple case study strategy, a combination of within-case and cross-case analyses were employed with the support of the ATLAS.ti software. As a result, theoretical propositions were made and an implementation model for strategic organizational change was developed by taking the context of commercial banks in Ethiopia into consideration. The findings indicate that national and organizational contexts demand contextualized approaches to implement strategic organizational change. Although several concepts which are documented in the extant literature were confirmed, original propositions are also made by the present study. A triple helix of initiating, designing, and implementing were emerged as inseparable components of the proposed implementation model for strategic organizational change in a context where cognitive and technical readiness is ensured. / Business Management / DBL

Nagel, Mateus de Brito January 2014 (has links)
This dissertation aims to investigate factors that moderate the relationship between satisfaction with complaint handling and repurchase intention in online retail. More specifically, this research aims to examine whether the quality of the relationship constructs, resistance to change and inferred motive moderate the relationship between satisfaction with complaint handling and repurchase intention in online retail. To test such moderations, was taken an exploratory research stage through in-depth interviews in which it became clear that the proposed constructs could moderate the relationship between the independent and dependent variables of this dissertation, as well as the variable economic value was added as a possible moderator of the relationships between satisfaction with complaint handling and repurchase intention. Then, to test the hypotheses was applied a survey with online consumers (N=500) from United States, through Qualtrics and Mechanical Turk. The results indicate that the relationship quality, the inferred motive and the perceived economic value moderated the relationship between satisfaction with complaint handling and repurchase intention in online retail. It is emphasized that the dimensions of relationship quality (satisfaction, trust and commitment) suggested in this study also moderated, in an individual way, the relationship between the independent and dependent variables of this study. Thus, this dissertation has contributed to the literature of marketing and e-commerce by showing that both the relationship quality as well as the dimensions (satisfaction, trust and commitment) moderate the relationship between satisfaction with complaint handling and repurchase intention. Furthermore, it is evident that the high perceived economic value, and the motive inferred by customers (if positive), facing the initial failure occurred, can also indicate repurchase intentions of consumers with online retailers.

Justifying a New Beginning: The Case of An Urban, Jewish Congregation in the 1970s

Ochrach-Konradi, Tirza 01 January 2019 (has links)
This research applies C. Wright Mills’ theory of vocabularies of motive to reveal the collective narratives, which were used to justify the atypical founding of an urban Jewish congregation in the 1970s. Prior to and during this period, US Jewish communities were migrating out of city centers into their surrounding suburbs. Most Jewish congregations followed their congregants and moved into the suburbs. This study identifies the collective justifications within the Hatchala Chadasha community, which are the accepted reasons for the organization’s atypical urban location and organizational structure. The findings of this research are based in the examination of interviews with individuals who were community members during the earliest years of Hatchala Chadasha’s existence. Patterns of similar accounts across the interviews revealed the collective narratives that defended four of the congregation’s fundamental decisions: why the congregation was founded, where the congregation chose to locate, how the congregation acted politically, and what organizational structure the congregation employed. These justifications are further examined, in relation to the behavior and values common within the broader Jewish community and other contextual components, to theorize why certain accounts became the accepted narrative within Hatchala Chadasha. Fundamentally, this research examines informants’ motive statements to discern and analyze the collective narratives formed in a community, which justify the community’s atypical behavior in the context of a predominant, external culture.
