No. of bitstreams: 1 Denise Rocha Belfort Arantes.pdf: 556753 bytes, checksum: 868752fd2ea751a08e75aae92ceb6d05 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2011-10-17 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / From professional demands, I became interested by deepening the studies of high ability/giftedness and, to the extent that I was discovering more, under the educational focus was questioning me about the relevance of a study on how this phenomenon would impact these people. In the literature, there are studies whose focus is on student, in public policies and in educational programmes for he created, while the emotional aspects and characteristics regarding their affective development have been little explored. This study aims to understand how five people with high ability/giftedness position themselves in the world, through reporting experiences experienced as significant. I use the theoretical reference Marion Milner, to assist in understanding the way how to deal with his creativity and how this impacts on your personalia. Based on the phenomenological method, which allowed to extract the units of meaning present in the interviews conducted, for later psychoanalytic discussion. This survey was conducted in a qualitative vertex, the data were collected through interview, partially open and semi-structured, which led to reports in the form of testimonials, with people with high ability/giftedness, young people and adults. Seven people were interviewed, and for the analysis, after Eidetic reduction, were rewritten and made five. It was concluded that can be hard to be a person with high skills/giftedness, when their host needs are not met. But if she can integrate, through creativity, your interiority, will be facilitated their adaptation to the world by printing it a personal brand, making it habitable / A partir de demandas profissionais, interessei-me pelo aprofundamento dos estudos a respeito das altas habilidades/superdotação e, na medida em que descobria mais a respeito, sob o enfoque educacional, me questionava sobre a relevância de um estudo sobre como esse fenômeno impactaria essas pessoas.

García Rojas, Diana Lucía 11 August 2017 (has links)
Tesis

Jeff Daniel Marion: Poet on the Holston

Graves, Jesse, Holmes, Thomas Alan, Lee, Ernest 01 January 2015 (has links)
The author of nine volumes of poetry and numerous other writings, the editor of several literary journals, the recipient of copious awards, including the James Still Award from the Fellowship of Southern Writers, and a longtime teacher and mentor, East Tennessee native Jeff Daniel Marion has come to be known as one of the most significant and beloved voices in Appalachian literature over the past four decades. The twenty-one pieces in this illuminating collection range from examinations of Marion’s poetry to considerations of his teaching career and influence on students, writers, and artists throughout the region and beyond. Acclaimed poet, novelist, and historian Robert Morgan writes about how Marion affected his development as a writer and the key role Marion has played in bringing Appalachian literature into its own. Scholar Randall Wilhelm’s essay, meanwhile, expands our appreciation for Marion not only as a poet but as a visual artist, tracing the connection between his photography and poetic imagery. Also included are essays by John Lang on the ways in which Marion’s poetry “gives voice to a spiritual vision of nature’s sacramental identity,” Gina Herring on how the poet’s father has served as his muse, and George Ella Lyon on the power of story in Marion’s picture book for children, Hello, Crow. Other features include an autobiographical essay by Marion himself, an interview conducted by co-editor Jesse Graves, and a bibliography and timeline that summarize Marion’s life and career. In the book’s introduction, Ernest Lee notes that in the poem “Boundaries,” from his first published collection, the young Marion “dedicated himself to his place, to the land and his heritage . . . welcoming whatever may come with a firm faith that ultimately his life as a poetic laborer will bring him to a true, sharp vision.” The eloquent contributions to this volume reveal just how fully that dedication has paid off. / https://dc.etsu.edu/etsu_books/1020/thumbnail.jpg

Drop-out study, Chemawa Indian School

Farrow, Terry, Oats, Gordon 01 January 1975 (has links)
Repeated inquiries and statements are made about the number of American Indian students who drop out or are pushed out of school. The Waxes noted that while drop-out rates are difficult to calculate because of a shifting population and absence of centralized, accurate records, current figures indicate that about one-half of those who enter the primary grades drop out before entering high school. Furthermore, only about a third of those entering school actually graduate. A study of Pima and Papago schools revealed much the same trends. Seven percent of the children ages six to eighteen are not enrolled in any school. The researchers estimated a drop-out rate of twenty percent for the teenage group. This was compared to a three and one-half percent drop-out rate for high schools in the surrounding areas. It was also noted that those Indian children who were in school were very likely to be behind their grade placement. The primary purpose of this study is to examine the Chemawa Indian School drop-out rate.

Leading lights: The promotion of garden suburb plans and planners in interwar Australia

Nichols, David, david.nichols@deakin.edu.au January 2001 (has links)
This thesis explores interwar town planning in Australia, focusing on the period of large-scale urban expansion in the 1920’s. It problematises aspects of Australia’s urban planning history, particularly the 1920s ‘garden suburb. It also investigates the question of the use of international planning ideas in Australia, and the assertion or creation of authority by the Australian planning movement. The thesis additionally investigates the use of authoritative planning rhetoric for commercial or creative advantage. The thesis argues that the majority of innovative planning projects in the interwar years took place in the formation and foundation of the garden suburb. It shows that the garden suburb – assumed in much planning history to be an inferior form of Ebenezer Howard’s ‘garden city’ ideal – has, in fact, a number of precedents in 19th century Australian suburbia, some of which were retained in 20th century commercial estate design. Much of the Australian town planner’s authority at this time required recognition and awareness of the interests and needs of the general public, as negotiated through land vendors. As Australians looked to the future, and to the US for guidance, they were invited to invest in speculative real estate development modelled on this vision. The thesis concentrates primarily on the lives, careers and work of the British-Australian architect-planner Sir John Sulman; the Chicagoan architect-planners Marion Mahony and Walter Burley Griffin; and the Australian surveyor-planner Saxil Tuxen. These individuals were among the most prominent planners in Australia in the interwar years. All designed Australian garden suburbs, and combined advocacy with practice in private and public spheres. The thesis examines images and personas, both generic and individual, of the planner and the vendor. It shows that the formulation of the garden suburb and design practices, and the incorporation of international elements into Australian planning, are important in the creation of planning practice and forms. It also outlines the way these continue to have significant impact, in diverse and important ways, on both the contemporary built environment and planning history itself.

Small scale spatial and temporal variability of microclimate in a fellfield landscape, Marion Island

Berg, Oskar January 2009 (has links)
<p>Marion Island is situated in the South Indian Ocean and belongs to the sub-Antarctic island group, Prince Edward Islands. The islands in the sub-Antarctic have over the past few decades been exposed to a warmer and drier climate trend. The aim of this thesis is to achieve better understanding of the small-scale spatial and temporal variability between Azorella selago andthe surrounding microclimate. Due to the consequences of climate change, the interactions between Azorella selago, landforms and soil processes are important for the future of the terrestrial ecosystems in the sub-Antarctic. The theory part in this thesis describes different processes and features that are essential to understand the context of this thesis. The energy balance and the insolation is shown to be an important aspect when looking at the spatialvariability of the microclimate. The summary of the results in the thesis is based on temperature and moisture measurements within two grids. One on the east and one on the west side of the island</p><p>The most important result from the measurements is that different weather conditions create different situations for the microclimate. The weather condition ‘sunny no wind’ created a high spatial variability in temperature on the ground, which was completely absent during overcast days. Temperature variability is highly dependent on cloud cover according to these results. Moisture changes also seem to be less weather dependent than temperaturechanges.</p><p>The data provide a first confirmation that an increase in sunshine hours gives increased spatial variability in temperature (not moisture) and soil frost. An increase in spatial variability of the microclimate within small areas could give rise to an expansion in the patchiness of soil frost processes in the landscape. The representivity of single point measurements of ground surface temperature should be questioned.</p><p>Patterns of areas with low moisture content within the grid correlate with points where measurements were taken on Azorella selago. The Azorella cushion could, according to the results of this thesis, be associated with dry areas within the grid. Azorella selago is thereby suggested to increase the spatial variability of moisture and also contribute to a locally drier microclimate. Moisture variability varies more between the east and west side of the island, than that it is weather dependent.</p><p>Shaded areas show a pattern of lower temperature than for the other variables under sunny conditions. If more shaded areas are created by for example landforms like Azorella selago or solifluction deposits, the temperatures would probably be lower and also create a wider spatial variability.</p><p>This study provides first data on the important interactions between Azorella selago and how it affects through spatial variability in micro-climate, ground frost potential and resulting soil disturbance by frost creep and solifluction.</p>

Henning, Gabriel January 2012 (has links)

A study of the relationship between superstition and perception of the natural environment among children in Marion, Indiana

Carman, Sam F. 03 June 2011 (has links)
A questionnaire was administered to fourth grade, seventh grade, and high school students in Marion, Indiana to attempt to determine the following: 1) To what extent will grade levels that appear to be highly superstitious show favorable response to questions concerning their feelings toward the natural environment or nature-related activities? 2) To what extent will grade levels that appear to have little or no belief in superstitions show favorable response to questions concerning their feelings toward the natural environment or nature-related activities? 3) To what extent will the superstitiousness of any particular school grade level(s) differ from the superstitiousness of any other school grade levels used in this study? Results of this research indicate that the fourth grade students surveyed differed significantly from students of the seventh and tenth-twelfth grade levels in both superstitiousness and in their feelings toward the natural environment. Fourth grade students were found to be more superstitious about nature and have more negative feelings toward the natural environment than either of the other experimental groups studied. It was further found that with fourth grade students a negative correlation exists between superstitiousness and feelings toward the natural environment.Ball State UniversityMuncie, IN 47306

Ekeroth, Ammi January 2006 (has links)
