It is intended to comment the relationships between philosophy and politics in antiquity, discussed by these authors, and, envision effects of these relationships which culminated in the government of the men in the Christian age. After that, it is intended to conjecture how, in the modern context, the biological life became a preoccupation in politics. Thus this work tries to identify their different approaches to power and problematize these approaches in their typical ways of considering politics and the theme of origin / A presente dissertação investiga proximidades e distâncias das análises políticas realizadas por Hannah Arendt e Michel Foucault.

In this sense, comes to expose how Foucault thinks the power and reflects on the poverty of resistance, then place the thought of the French philosopher in relation to the city, its close relationship with the birth of biopolitics, highlighting its necessary strategic complement to tanatopolitics. Thereafter, depart in search of rethinking the national movement of urban reform, making certain reservations to the strong political investment that is made in a urban law that promises the revolution, eliminating social injustice that results from the division of urban space between the city and the slum, but it turned out to harm local and specific resistance of social movements practices, fulfilling their goals only reasonably. At the end, make a call to rethink the use of urban law, betting that a new desire to urban revolution may prove to be from the subjects knowledges of the people of the slum / Este trabalho tem como objetivo abordar certos problemas do poder e da resistência, no âmbito da biopolítica, sob a perspectiva do pensador francês Michel Foucault, tendo em vista a persistência da crise nas cidades brasileiras desde a década de 80, apesar de todo o esforço do movimento nacional pela reforma urbana.

To achieve this purpose, the concept of “agon” and “agonism” that the philosopher elaborate will be used as an interpretative key to apprehend what we could understand as an “aporia of freedom” in his theoric production ; that is to say freedom as condition of existence of power and freedom as ontological condition of ethics. In this sense, his consideration about resistance will also be of great importance for the development of our research / O presente trabalho procura compreender a problemática da liberdade no pensamento de Michel Foucault em sua correlação com o poder, a ética e a resistência.

Machado, Edilaine Ricardo January 2017 (has links)

Winter, Katarina January 2010 (has links)

Twenty-first century celebrations of the British Armed Forces : the rise of the biopolitical military professional

Palmer, R. William January 2017 (has links)
Over the past decade, the United Kingdom has witnessed a proliferation of civil-military initiatives that have engendered overt and celebratory displays of support for the British Armed Forces. This thesis interrogates two of these initiatives: the annual public relations event Armed Forces Day and the military charity Help for Heroes. Significantly, these initiatives have emerged against a backdrop of morally and politically contentious military violence, notably in Iraq and Afghanistan. Hence, these initiatives raise important questions about the type of politics which underwrite them. In this thesis, I address these questions by critically engaging with a figure who occupies a key position within this UK civil-military landscape: the professional soldier. Adopting a Foucauldian approach, I place this figure within a broader political, social and historical context and show how, since the end of the Second World War, the professional soldier has continually remerged to rewrite the conditions of possibility for liberal war-fighting. Drawing on this insight, I identify a professional soldier, I label the biopolitical military professional, who greatly informs the contours of this contemporary UK civil-military landscape. The biopolitical military professional is an important figure because they are able to co-opt "civilian" political subjects into the service of liberal-warfighting despite a conflict's political context. This is made possible because the biopolitical military professional is a figure who incorporates their military expertise and professional concerns within a wider set of life-administering knowledges concerned with the health and well-being of the population. Crucially, the most overt expressions of biopolitical military professionalism are produced through these UK civil-military initiatives. I demonstrate this by showing how these initiatives mobilise a whole host of "civilian" proto-professional subjects into the active service of liberal war-fighting through an appeal to both their military "obligations" and their fitness and wellbeing. An effect of this is that participating in one of these initiatives becomes more than an act of military support it also becomes a way of partaking in a healthy and life-enriching activity. For example, a day out at Armed Forces Day is a way to get children to take part in active play and educational activities. Supporting the armed forces through Help for Heroes may involve running a marathon or taking part in a long-distance cycle ride. Consequently, via the presence of the biopolitical military professional these initiatives achieve a certain resonance with a civilian population disinterested in the politics of war but increasingly concerned with their health and wellbeing.

Saraceno, Sofia January 2018 (has links)
Aim: The aim of the study has been to study how a Swedish state authority talks about mental health among children and young people. Method: The study is based on a qualitative discourse analysis in which the Public Health Authority's report was carefully studied. Results: The essay highlights how a Swedish authority presents various factors that affect a child's mental well-being. The Public Health Authority describes the discourse on health as good when healthy lifestyles are anchored at an early age as it affects health for the rest of life. Texts produced within the discourse, just as the report produced by the Public Health Authority, recommend good health habits to be introduced in an early stage of a child's life. To understand what these habits are, the authority describes social practices which govern people's experience of the current discourse. The social practices recommendations guide people to act so that they are given the conditions to create healthy habits and relationships at an early age. The analysis of the report shows two dominant categories that affect children's and young people's mental health, the school and the family. These areas are the main parts that the report describes where several identity perceptions have been identified. The identity perceptions are used to categorize the individual and create a recognition to find a place in society and to its discourses. Based on the different perceptions of identity, it is then determined how the individual's surroundings and actions are perceived.

Vigilância eletrônica no direito processual penal: uma reflexão a partir de Michel Foucault / Eletronic monitoring in criminal case: a reflection based on Michel Foucault thoughts

People sentenced precisely under the law of criminal procedure. The electronic surveillance suggests a natural philosophical interest that revolves around the analysis of issues relating to power, prison, law, the society of discipline and control. Foucault critical texts about power are the guiding track of this research, in order that it allows investigating the procedures related to electronic surveillance that focus on the conduct of individuals sentenced by the State. The analysis of this subject relates to the modern prison management activity, whose way of criminal sanction counts on a significant transformation: the enforcement of criminal punishment can be effective even in distance, that is, outside the prison environment. From this philosophical pathway we recognize that the electronic surveillance is a form of exercise of disciplinary power, where the effects of their relationship fall onto the body of each condemned and extends beyond the prison population. The existence of a society of control suggests that disciplinary mechanisms are expanded in order that we can find an unfinished constitution of the new society, this new social overview that values the progress of technology / O trabalho analisa a vigilância eletrônica de indivíduos-condenados, precisamente no âmbito do direito processual penal, a partir da leitura de alguns escritos de Michel Foucault e Gilles Deleuze.

Portron, Margaux 30 March 2017 (has links)
This work draws on the existing critical literature on drone warfare, case studies and Michel Foucault’s work on biopower to highlight how immunity unfolds. I seek to define immunity by using one of its embodiments: pilotless devices used in contemporary conflicts for surveillance and bombing, mostly by the United States. This work mainly analyses the power relations to which the bodies that form the drone assemblage are subjected. If current analyses have insisted on the position of the drone pilot, or drone operator, in the disciplinary assemblage, my focus on the bodies on the ground as an essential part of the man-machine apparatus shows a way of constituting us and them. Sovereignty is indeed the mechanism by which a group constitutes itself on what they have in common, excluding others, and which confuses its borders with the principle of preservation. These borders can be those of a State, of the western world, but also of some city neighbourhoods. This obsession with community preservation is going to develop in parallel with institutionalised racism, which serves to organise lives which must be protected and those which can be abandoned and even killed if considered a threat. This is why I argue that biopower and sovereign power overlap in immune power.
