Previous issue date: 2006-03-30 / Universidade Federal de Sao Carlos / This study aims at understanding, through the methodological perspective of Oral
history and making use of quantitative data, the construction and reproduction of multiple
identities and sociabilities present among the rural workers natural from the Minas Gerais
state and the Brazilian northeast region, and who have migrated to Guariba, a bedroom
community in the interior of the São Paulo state whose economy is based on the sugarcane
industry. In order to make this understanding possible, it has been necessary to determine
in which contexts these identities and sociabilities are built, that is, how the surrounding
community, with its ideas, thoughts and values, interferes in these social relations. It has
been made clear to us that, between the two groups, there is a dichotomic and dialectic
relation based on prejudice and symbolic violence, as well as a stereotyped connection
between immigrants-criminality, which is clearer in Guariba due to a rural workers strike
in 1984. This dichotomic relation is made possible by an ideology which permeates all the
social groups in Guariba, and which divides the city between those we have called the
natives (European descendants, downtown dwellers, middle class and white) and the
outsiders (migrants from Minas Gerais and the northeastern states of Brazil, living in the
suburbs, low class and black). When facing the stigma of the native group, the outsiders ,
being a heterogeneous group, have different and multi-faceted reactions, which can be
subdivided in three groups: the seasonal migrant outsiders , the Guariba long-time living
outsiders and the outsiders who belong to the second and third generations of migrants.
Men and women who migrate yearly, during the sugarcane harvest, play different social
roles in the cities where they are migrate to and their hometowns. When coming back to
their home land, if they have been successful in the sugarcane plantations of the São Paulo
interior, they are entitled to social and cultural differentiation according to their new
identities and wealth. On the other hand, in the modern world where they have migrated
to the relation is the opposite. The means of sociability are scarce and tense, with
discriminatory basis, since for the native community the migrants are representatives of a
traditional and undesirable world. The migrants that have lived in the city for more time are
able to widen their sociability bonds, which spread in the suburban neighborhoods where
they live. Nevertheless, they know there are places in the city where they are not welcome,
and at the same time they recollect and revive their home land, where they feel really at
home : the more often they migrate, the longer they stay in the same place. The
representatives of the second and third generations of migrants, on the other hand, consider
themselves (and in fact are) Guariba citizens, fruits of the modern relations in the São
Paulo state, and for this reason they believe that all the places in the city belong to them by
rights. However, because they are also considered outsiders , they easily notice the
stigmas they are submitted to, and end up being more susceptible to violence relations,
which makes us think that the natives symbolic violence is turned into real violence among
this group. Finally, the migrants not only experiment the reunion of the different, but they
live, above all, the inequalities and social differences of the cities and towns of the São
Paulo state. The relation the migrants have with the surrounding community disguises
color/race as well as social class prejudice against this group, which will never be us ; they will always be outsiders .

Previous issue date: 2009-03-25 / This study indicates the profile of young rural de Iracema do Oeste. The analyzed literature points an immigratory tendency still expressive throughout the world direct to the urban environment and for the inexistence of studies related to those youths who remain in the countryside. The formulation of the research problem based in the reasons of the countryside youths remain. The tested hypothesis in the current study was that the remain of the youths from Iracema do Oeste in the countryside would justify for the access facilities to services once only found in the urban environment. The countryside improvement deriving from the modernization occurred in the last decades, pointed out by the authors in the bibliography review would be amplifying a franchise, opening new possibilities of consumption for the population from the countryside. The rural youths also would not isolate anymore. The means of communication, the transport facilities, the telephony systems and the study conditions would approximate the countryside and the city. Beyond these factors and changings in the countryside, the pluriactivity, synonym of the diversification of the use of the rural space, joined the mentioned changings, could be an alternative of income and the abidance of the youths in the countryside. Nevertheless the raised hypotheses are not confirmed. The obtained replies through questionnaires applied to youths from the countryside from Iracema do Oeste show that the choice for the abidance in the countryside is regulated to a positive evaluation about their own lifestyle, however with the advance of the age and the necessity of having a profession, the choice of leaving the countryside is eminent. The possibility of self income acquiring also did not confirm, even in properties of diversified production. The tendency for the abidance is clearly in the youths from families until four components that possess self property that do not work out of the property without self income and with low level of schooling.

[pt] ARTICULANDO MIGRAÇÃO E PROSTITUIÇÃO: AS ECONOMIAS MORAIS NOS DISCURSOS PÚBLICOS, NAS PRÁTICAS POLITICAS E NAS EXPERIÊNCIAS SUBJETIVAS DAS BRASILEIRAS TRABALHADORAS DO SEXO NA FRANÇA / [en] ARTICULATING MIGRATION AND PROSTITUTION: MORAL ECONOMIES IN PUBLIC DISCOURSES, POLITICAL PRACTICES AND SUBJECTIVE EXPERIENCES OF BRAZILIAN SEX WORKERS IN FRANCECHARLOTTE VALADIER 17 December 2020 (has links)
[en] The migrant sex worker character can be interpreted in multiple ways according to the interests, moral views and political goals of relevant stakeholders within this context. This work analyzes how the perspectives of security, gender and resistance, respectively promoted by government actors,
associative agents and the subjects themselves reverberate in the empirical practice, that is, through the interactions of Brazilian cisgender and transgender sex workers with the other actors surrounding them and with whom they together configure the moral economy of the mobility of sex workers. More specifically,
this thesis aims to investigate how the label of vulnerable and naive victim on the one hand, and the labels of criminal, pimp, illegal and transgressive on the other are produced and mobilized by the different actors involved in the regulation of sexual labor migration. The analysis carried out in this work is based
on ethnographic-inspired research, describing the field of Brazilian prostitution in the French cities of Paris, Lyon and Toulouse. From this immersion, the thesis demonstrates how the articulations between the category of victim - of trafficking, of sexual labor exploitation, of patriarchy, of unequal capitalism - and
the category of criminal - for pimping friends, for being clandestine, for feeding the black market, for exercising an immoral activity - are mobilized in this context. It reveals a highly nuanced and ambivalent reality, since Brazilian prostitutes are often simultaneously victims and autonomous, manipulated and
opportunists, pimps and exploited.

[pt] QUEM SOMOS NÓS E QUEM SOU EU: UMA ANÁLISE DISCURSIVA E AUTOETNOGRÁFICA DAS CONSTRUÇÕES DE IDENTIDADES E DE (NÃO) PERTENCIMENTOS EM NARRATIVAS DE EXPERIÊNCIAS MIGRATÓRIAS / [en] WHO WE ARE AND WHO I AM: AN AUTOETHNOGRAPHIC AND DISCURSIVE ANALYSIS ON IDENTITY CONSTRUCTIONS AND (NON) BELONGINGS IN NARRATIVES OF MIGRATION EXPERIENCESMARIA ALINE SILVA MARTINS 27 January 2022 (has links)
[en] In this dissertation, I seek to generate understandings about the migration processes of my family that left São Benedito (Ceará) and came to the favela of Rocinha, between the 1980s and the 1990s. In this autoethnographic study (Ellis; Bochner, 2000) I aim to look at how we evaluate our migration experiences, which can cover from the decision moment of leaving the hometown up to the present date. Specifically, based on the analysis of narratives (Bastos, 2005; Bastos; Biar, 2015; De Fina, 2008), I examine the discursive construction of identities (Moita Lopes, 2001; 2002; 2003; Snow, 2001; Duszak, 2002) and belongings (Krzyżanowski; Wodak, 2008; Angouri et al., 2020) of the participants when it comes to the way we relate to the place of origin and to the place of destination (Souza, 2006), São Benedito and Rocinha, respectively. This is a Contemporary Ap plied Linguistics study (Moita Lopes, 2006) that follows a qualitative-interpretive paradigm of research (Denzin; Lincoln, 2006). For the discursive analysis of the corpus, the tool of text analysis proposed by the Appraisal System was selected (Martin, 2001; Martin; Rose, 2007; White, 2004). The results point to three distinct movements made by the participants. One of my brothers, for example, constructs a strong belonging to his place of origin, São Benedito, while simultaneously constructing a non-belonging and a detachment from Rocinha/Rio de Janeiro. In my sister’s narratives, she still maintains a connection with her place of birth, but does not appear to have created a connection with Rocinha. All the other family members – me, mother, father and brother indicate they feel that they belong to both places, São Benedito and Rocinha.

[pt] ALTERIDADE E MIGRAÇÃO: O ROSTO DO MIGRANTE À LUZ DA FILOSOFIA DE EMMANUEL LÉVINAS E DO MAGISTÉRIO DO PAPA FRANCISCO / [en] OTHERNESS AND MIGRATION: THE FACE OF THE MIGRANT IN LIGHT OF THE PHILOSPHY OF EMMANUEL LÉVINAS AND THE MAGISTERIUM OF POPE FRANCISLEONARDO COSTA DA SILVA DE OLIVEIRA AMORIM 31 August 2023 (has links)
[en] The migrant s face speaks eloquently about the incredible inequality that exists in human society and of its consequences. On the other hand, the way we notice, perceive and welcome this face also speaks eloquently about ourselves: the way we deal with the needs, the fragility and the vulnerability of the orphan, the widow and the outsider, of him who is naked and hungry. In other words, poor and underserved people, vagabonds, migrants, immigrants, refugees, expatriates, stateless persons, asylum seekers, all forcibly displaced. The already massive and still growing contemporary migratory flow consists of people who seek refuge from the bestiality of wars and despotic governments, coming from conflicted territories in search of peace and security, as well as by the so-called economic immigrants, who search for better lives. As long as the income disparity between rich and poor countries remains abysmal and the process of global growth stays absolutely uneven, the migration trigger will continue to fuel the harmful effects of imbalanced international migration in epic proportions. As consequence, the arrival of a mass of homeless immigrants, deprived of human rights and not adequately supported by local law, further exacerbates xenophobic, racist and nationalist movements. The incessant waves of new immigrants are thus perceived with unease and fear, provoking animosity and hostility towards a considerable part of the communities and countries that receive them. The 21st century, marked by new eras of information, communication and technology, marked by the asymmetric effects of a perverse globalization that promotes inequitable access to productive and financial means, marked by the formation and expansion of new totalitarian governments and the configuration of a new multipolar geopolitical order, marked by the persistence of poverty and the perpetuation of elementary structural inequalities exacerbates an old phenomenon, but which is now manifesting itself in alarming proportions: the crisis of refugees and poor immigrants. For this reason we use the perspective of the philosophy of ethical foundation of the philosopher Emmanuel Lévinas. Its categories as human face, visitation of the face, face as revelation, face of the foreigner, the widow and the orphan as transcendence, culture as the face of another, inter-human perspective, otherness and proximity help us shed light on the situation of refugees and poor immigrants today. Likewise, it also seemed fundamental to us to use the perspective adopted by Pope Francis throughout his teachings. Since the beginning of his pontificate, the Supreme Pontiff has drawn attention to the new challenges related to the drama of the refugees and immigrants of today. He warned us that humanity is experiencing a crisis and that we need to give an effective response to current human ills through a solidary posture and by rejecting the treacherous temptations of separation and individualism. The Pontiff insists on the need to promote a culture of the encounter that allows us, in fact, to care for and to protect what God created with dignity, responsibility and fraternal love.

[pt] DEUS PELEGRINO: A MIGRAÇÃO NO PENSAMENTO DO PAPA FRANCISCO: DO ÊXODO À COMUNHÃO / [it] IL DIO PELLEGRINO: LA MIGRAZIONE NEL DISCERNIMENTO DI PAPA FRANCESCO: DALL ESODO ALLA COMUNIONE / [en] THE PILGRIM GOD: MIGRATION IN POPE FRANCIS DISCERNMENT: FROM THE EXODUS TO COMMUNIONMARCO STRONA 25 May 2021 (has links)
[pt] A pesquisa pretende apresentar a contribuição teológica
desenvolvido no decorrer do segundo capítulo, especificamente
consciência, paulatinamente, do fenômeno migratório, amadurecendo
institucionalmente.
Escritura, deste paradigma chave do Vaticano II e, sucessivamente,
autores: G. Gutiérrez (opção pelos pobres), J. Sobrino e I. Ellacuria
(povos crucificados), L. Gera e R. Tello (teologia delpopolo). A
terceira parte (capítulos 5 e 6) por fim, examinam a prospectiva
teológico-pastoral do Papa Francisco a partir do fenômeno migratório,
homilias, referentes a migração.
Considerar o fenômeno migratórios nesses termos abre a
[en] This work aims to illustrate the theological and pastoral
contribution that Pope Francis reflection offers regarding the
migration debate. The thesis was divided into three parts, each
consisting of two chapters. The first part is entitled Migration today
and the discernment of the Catholic Church.
The first chapter presents, broadly speaking, the
phenomenon of migration from a sociological point of view.
The phenomenon of human mobility, precisely for this
reason, has also always been at the center of the pastoral care of the
Church. This is the theme that is developed in the second chapter. In
particular, here we try to see how the Church, over the centuries, has
gradually become aware of the migratory phenomenon, maturing a
pastoral discernment and also organizing itself on a structural and
institutional level.
The second part of the thesis highlights and deepens the
matrices of Francis discernment: Ignatian mysticism (chapter 3) and
the Latin American reception of the ecclesiology of the people of
God (chapter 4). Ignatius of Loyola, in his Autobiography, identifies
himself as the pilgrim. In fact, as we will see, the characteristic of
the experience of God that emerges here is precisely that of the
pilgrimage; it is history itself that takes on the features of this great
pilgrimage in which the human being, homo viator, is constantly
called to recognize the traces of God, manifested each time as a
surprise. God is the God of surprises, of the unheard novelty that
we are called to recognize in an attitude of wonder and attention.
Precisely because on the journey, man is never alone, but is part of a
people, the people of God who throughout history is called,
together, to seek God and find him in all things. The fourth chapter,
then, focuses precisely on the Latin American reception of the
ecclesiology of the people of God, trying to highlight the
development, starting from Scripture, of this key paradigm of Vatican
II and, subsequently, to analyze the reception that took place in Latin
America through some authors: G. Gutierréz (option for the poor); J.
Sobrino and I. Ellacuria (crucified peoples); L. Gera and R. Tello
(theology of the people). Finally, the third part (chapters 5 and 6)
examines the theological-pastoral perspective of Pope Francis, starting
from the migratory phenomenon, for the life and mission of the
Church. The fifth chapter examines the proposal of Francis, from the
magisterial texts, speeches and homilies about the migration. Finally,
the sixth chapter seeks to shed light on the progress made, proposing
some tracks that branch off from this road for further study. In
particular, we would like to present two major themes, central to the
Pope s Magisterium - the outgoing Church and the mysticism of the
We - marked by a rhythm that develops in four stages: being on the
move and open to the surprise of God; the frontier; hospitality; the
koinonia in difference, or the culture of encounter.
The assumption in these terms of the migratory
phenomenon opens up a clear evangelical ethos: communion in
diversity represents an essential element for understanding the
mystery of the Trinity just as it wanted to reveal itself to humanity,
leading to the development of a new paradigm for being able to say
God today; the pilgrim God. / [it] Il presente lavoro intende illustrare il contributo teologico
Dio (capitolo 4).
avvenuta in America Latina attraverso alcuni Autori: G. Gutierréz
In particolare vorremmo

[en] REBUILDING LIVES IN LITERARY READING: ANALYSIS OF MIGRATION NARRATIVES UNDER A SOCIODISCURSIVE PERSPECTIVE / [pt] RECONSTRUINDO VIDAS NA LEITURA LITERÁRIA: ANÁLISE DE NARRATIVAS DE MIGRAÇÃO SOB UMA PERSPECTIVA SOCIODISCURSIVAODETE FIRMINO ALHADAS SALGADO 16 April 2020 (has links)
(1961; 1963; 1979); e da Linguística Sistêmico-Funcional (HALLIDAY, 1994;
GOUVEIA, 2009; NÓBREGA, 2009), especialmente, o Sistema de Avaliatividade
(MARTIN; WHITE, 2005).
sociais. A pesquisa também possui um cunho autoetnográfico (ELLIS, ADAMS;
[en] The present study aims at analyzing narratives generated in the interaction
between migrant women and the literary work The hour of the star, by Clarice
Lispector, whose main theme is migration. Thus, the environment of data
generation is contextualized by the literature, which is the background for
interactions; and by migration, topic that touches the life stories of these women –
Cassia, Taís, myself and Macabéa – protagonist of the chosen literary work. The
focus of the research is on what happens in the interaction between the participants
and the (re)elaboration of narrative experiences, when themes related to the
construction of identities, stigmas and institutions emerged in a recurrent way.
Hence the objectives are: (i) to analyze the narrative discourse of the participants
regarding their migratory experiences; (ii) to investigate how the participants
evaluate their lived experiences in the interaction with the literary work and (iii)
to observe which identities, stigmas and institutions emerge in this evaluative
discursive practice that the participants made about their migratory process. This
research is developed within the scope of Applied Linguistics (MOITA LOPES,
2006; 2013) and proposes an interdisciplinary investigation between Language
Studies and Literature. To support the analysis, the theoretical-methodological
framework dialogues with socially based language theories, namely the areas of
Narrative Analysis and Identity Studies (BASTOS, 2008); of Sociointeractional
Perspective of Discourse, based on some concepts from Goffman (1961; 1963; 1979);
and of SFL (HALLIDAY, 1994; GOUVEIA, 2009; NÓBREGA, 2009), especially the
Appraisal Theory (MARTIN; WHITE, 2005). In the context of Literary Studies, I
refer to the Aesthetic of Reception and the Theory of Aesthetic Effect, especially to
the postulates of Jauss ((1969) 1994) and Iser ((1976) 1996), that concern with the
relationship between text and reader. The methodological framework aligns with
qualitative research (DENZIN; LINCOLN, 2006), as it is an investigation situated
on socially based theories. The research also has an auto-ethnographic aspect
(ELLIS, ADAMS; BOCHNER, 2010), since it is carried out in a familiar context, in
which one of the participants has a direct relationship with the researcher. Results
suggest that interlocutors, through their life stories, (re)construct identities and
emotions through the differentiation of Macabéa, character of the literary work.
The evaluative moments are fundamental for the (re)construction of narratives,
which dialogues with the reading context of Clarice s work. Cassia and Taís
(co)construct and (re)construct identities for the migrant from northeastern of
Brazil, recontextualizing a gullible and naive woman in the figure of a struggling,
studious woman who seeks and conquers her social ascension despite the stigmas
suffered and experiences of abuse in the so-called family homes, understood here
as total institutions. This thesis may contribute in an original way to the area of
Applied Linguistics, encouraging inter and transdisciplinary research. Moreover,
it is shown an act of (re)existence – and resistance – of so many stories of migrant
women from northeastern of Brazil.
