Text in German, English and German summaries / Die Masterthesis zeigt auf, wie das Reich-Gottes-Verständnis die Theologie und die missionarische Praxis im hallischen Pietismus bei August Hermann Francke beeinflusst hat. Mittels einer Literaturarbeit wird in missionstheologischer Perspektive das hallische Gottesreich-Verständnis erforscht sowie aus missionsgeschichtlicher Sicht die Praxis der hallischen Pietisten dargestellt. Beide Blickwinkel werden miteinander in Verbindung gesetzt, so dass die Zusammenhänge zwischen Reich Gottes und Gemeindepraxis herausgearbeitet
werden. Es zeigt sich, dass die Reich-Gottes-Rede die Rahmenbedingungen, den Bezugspunkt, die menschliche Partizipation, die Ganzheitlichkeit sowie die Reichweite des missionarischen Handelns in Halle maßgeblich beeinflusst hat.
Auf Basis der Forschungsergebnisse werden Schlüsse und Praxisimplikationen für die heutige Diskussion um den Reich Gottes Begriff und die missionarische Praxis gegeben. / This study shows how the concept of the Kingdom of God has influenced the theology and missionary church practice of August Hermann Francke. By means of a literature study, the concept of the Kingdom of God in Halle Pietism is researched from a perspective of mission theology. In addition to that the church practice of Francke will be presented from a perspective of mission history. Both points of view are linked to each other so that the relations between the Kingdom
of God and church practice are worked out. It is obvious that the view of the Kingdom of God has decisively influenced the framework, the point of reference, human participation, the holistic approach, as well as the range of missionary activity in Halle. Die vorliegende Forschungsarbeit unternimmt den Versuch, einen konzeptionellen
Entwurf einer empirischen Missionswissenschaft als Grundlagenforschung zu
entwickeln, der im Praxisfeld durchgeführt wird. Dabei soll die intradisziplinäre
Vorgehensweise einen methodologischen Zugang sozialwissenschaftlicher
Methoden zur Missionswissenschaft möglich machen. Als Grundlage wird ein
Einblick in die sozialwissenschaftliche und missionswissenschaftliche Forschung
gegeben und daraus ein eigener, empirisch-theologischer Praxiszyklus entwickelt,
der die Methodologie der Untersuchung darstellt. Die inhaltliche Forschungsarbeit
fragt nach Gottesvorstellungen von Jugendlichen aus missionswissenschaftlicher
Sicht. Dabei wird die Möglichkeit missionarischer Begegnung und Ansprechbarkeit
von Jugendlichen im Kontext der kulturellen Veränderungen des postmodernen
Paradigmemwechsels beleuchtet. Die Frage, wie Gottesvorstellungen von
Jugendlichen gesellschaftlich geprägt und wie sich dies auf ihre Religiosität in
ihrem Alltag auswirkt, spielt in diesem Zusammenhang eine wichtige Rolle.
Deshalb wird nicht nur der aktuelle Forschungsstand zur Thematik untersucht,
sondern 18 Jugendliche werden in Form von halbstandardisierten Interviews
qualitativ befragt und ihre Aussagen empirisch-missiologisch ausgewertet.
Die Thesis hat somit zweierlei Zielsetzungen: Zum einen geht es um eine
empirisch-theologische Studie zur Erforschung von Gottesvorstellung bei
Jugendlichen im Hinblick auf ihre missionarische Ansprechbarkeit. Zum anderen
zielt sie darauf ab, durch Umsetzung des empirisch-theologischen Praxiszyklus
einen Typus zu entwickeln, der auch künftig in der Missionswissenschaft für
empirisch-theologische Erhebungen eingesetzt werden kann.
Summary
The intention of this research project is to evolve a concept for empirical
missiology as a method of fundamental research and to apply it in practice.
Through the usage of an intradisciplinary approach, access to missiology via the
methodology of the social sciences is rendered possible. To establish a basis, an
insight into social as well as missiological research will be given, and an inherent,
empirical-theological praxis cycle will be developed. This praxis cycle is the
methodology of this research paper. Concerning content, this research paper
scrutinises the image of God held by juveniles from a missiological point of view. It
considers the missionary receptiveness of juveniles in the context of cultural
change in the postmodernist shift of paradigm.
In how far are juvenile concepts of God marked by the correspondent social
environment and does that have an impact on their everyday religious behaviour?
Consequently not only the current state of research will be evaluated but,
furthermore, the half-standardised qualitative interviews of 18 juveniles will be
enclosed and their answers analysed on an empirical- missiological basis.
Hence, this thesis has a twofold aim; one considers empirical-theological research
as a way of evaluating concepts of God among juveniles with regard to their
missionary receptiveness. The other implements the empirical-theological praxis
cycle aiming to develop a type which enables further empirical-theological

The thesis proposes solutions for the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Newcastle area
to perform Christ’s mission work effectively. It examines how mission could be meaningful
in contemporary society, which is challenging mission so gravely. The study challenges all
churches, including youth, women, men and clergy towards mission.
An analysis of a mission perspective is delineated, aware of the social contexts for mission
in Newcastle. The context of culture has been dealt with, encouraging the Church to be
culturally sensitive, and to use cultural means to reach people. God uses cultural means to
reveal himself. Evil cultural practices, for example, ancestral ‘worship’ and ‘talking to the
dead’ are exposed and denounced.
Bible readings promote mission in the Adventist Church. The teacher of the Bible is to study
it thoroughly, ensuring that he/she is able to proclaim the gospel. Creative teaching of the
Bible includes different levels of understanding, namely, a rote level, a recognition level, a
repetition level, an interactive and a realisation level. The gospel is to be applied in life.
Different hermeneutical approaches to the Bible are summarised, for example, a
postmodern approach.
Strategic planning regarding evangelism is vital. ‘Gift-based’ ministry would inspire all
believers to perform mission work according to people’s ability. All Christians should be
able to evangelise others, leading people as acknowledged sinners to accept Christ as
Saviour and Lord, and to establish the reign of God in society according to his justice.
The heart of the thesis is as follows:- The gospel of Christ is a missionary message to reach all people with the gospel
of salvation and societal renewal

With globalization the subject of partnership has become one of the main issues in World Mission. Partnerships are formed in all parts of the world in order to promote collaboration between churches, denominations, and mission organizations. Although good partner relationships are a desired objective, historical prejudices and cultural differences and bias lead to barriers which hinder good partnership relations. How can these barriers be overcome? Christian partnerships are usually only based on a collaboration of the partners and the Christian aspect in a relationship in World Mission is neglected. This study presents a theological basis for a Christian relationship in World Mission, coming from the creation of the human being in the image of God, the communion within the Trinity, especially the concepts of “kenosis” and “koinonia,” and the image of the Body of Christ. A second part of this study researches the historical and sociological aspects of partnership in order to identify barriers for a good partner relationship. The findings of the theological research will then be compared with the outcomes of the historical and sociological study and conclusions for an improvement should be presented. The foundation for mission-church relationship in a global context needs to be a spiritual relationship, since the acting partners come together on a basis of their Christian faith and are part of the universal Body of Christ. The kenotic attitude of the partners plays a major role in their relationship and the proposed model for functioning relationships in World Mission needs to be an organic-complementary communion. The last part then presents a new model for the relationship in World Mission, in which several elements of organic-complementary communion are described. These elements are living together in the Body of Christ, learning together, serving together, suffering and celebrating together, sharing together, working together, and discovering theology together. This is because of the historical and socio-political dimensions connected with it, some of which the present study has attempted to discuss. The main objective of this research is to develop a missiological model of reconciliation by understanding and addressing the underlying causes of the 2007/8 post-election violence through an interpretive and missiological reading of the 2008 report of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights. The concepts of politics, ethnicity, human rights and violence are chosen as analytical units for this study and through an integrated approach to their interconnectedness, a more adequate framework to identify and analyze the causes of violence is created. Church growth as part of a wholistic missiological approach?Schmidt, Jörg 06 1900 (has links)
Church growth missiology has been severely criticized by
ecumenical, but also by evangelical missiologists. This often led to its rejection as it was
considered incompatible with other missiological approaches. But church growth does deal
effectively with important issues as other missiologies do. In light of Martin Luther's
interpretation of the First Commandment a more general wholistic missiological approach is
requested, which considers the full spectrum of human needs, and under which church growth can
function with other missiologies together. The treatment of the task of missiology and the unity by
attitude of the missiologist contribute to the argument. Therefore four major criticisms
brought forth against church growth are dealt with in order to
evaluate and finally suggest a potential theological compatibility of this approach with other
missiologies. This is further

Nach der Arbeitsweise der Kontextuellen Theologie wird induktiv gefragt, in welcher Welt
wir im Deutschland des 21. Jahrhunderts leben. Anschließend wird die deduktive Rückfrage
an die Schrift gestellt, ob sie etwas Grundsätzliches zum Thema einer zunehmend multikulturellen
Gesellschaft zu sagen hat. Die Reflektion der Ergebnisse beider Schritte führt zu konkreten
Gestaltungsschwerpunkten der interkulturellen Ekklesia. Auf Grund der Forschungsergebnisse
werden Thesen zur (missions-) theologischen, evangelistischen, soziokulturellen und
politischen Relevanz formuliert.
Die vorliegende Studie will einen Beitrag für die Grundlagen des interkulturellen Gemeindeaufbaus
geben. Sie zeigt die signifikanten Unterscheidungsmerkmale zwischen mono- und
interkulturellem Gemeindebau auf. Sie beschreibt das evangelistische und gesellschaftstransformatorische
Potenzial der interkulturellen Gemeinde und skizziert die gesellschaftlichen

Summary in German and English / This thesis aims at the integration of the concept of habitus, as introduced by Pierre
Bourdieu, with the concept of worldview as defined by Paul G. Hiebert develop implications for the missiological discipline and the analysis of the human condition. In a first step the concept of worldview is introduced and integrated into the anthropological discipline from within the life and work of Paul G. Hiebert. The confinement of the concept within the cognitive realm is worked out subsequently and the necessity of a complimentary concept is underlined. In a second step the concept of habitus as defined by Pierre Bourdieu is introduced and explained within his biography, research tradition and his sociological framework. In the concluding chapter a synthesis is provided to integrate habitus with worldview building upon the complimentary nature of the concepts. The cognitive bias of worldview is amended through the incorporated nature of habitus. This leads to an augmented research methodology which includes practical analysis of habitus. / Ziel dieser Masterarbeit ist es, das in der Missionswissenschaft gebräuchliche Konzept
der Weltanschauung, vorgestellt von Paul G. Hiebert, durch das Konzept des Habitus,

Reaching the unreached Sudan Belt : Guinness, Kumm and the Sudan-Pioneer-MissionSauer, Christof, 1963- 11 1900 (has links)
This missiological project seeks to study the role of the Guinnesses and Kumms in reaching the
Sudan Belt, particularly through the Sudan-Pionier-Mission (SPM) founded in 1900.
The term Sudan Belt referred to Africa between Senegal and Ethiopia, at that period one of the
largest areas unreached by Christian missionaries. Grattan Guinness (1835-1910) at that time was
the most influential promoter of faith missions for the Sudan. The only initiative based in
Germany was the SPM, founded by Guinness, his daughter Lucy (1865-1906), and her German husband
Karl Kumm (1874-1930). Kumm has undeservedly been forgotten, and his early biography as a
missionary and explorer in the deserts of Egypt is here brought to light again.
The early SPM had to struggle against opposition in Germany. Faith missions were
considered unnecessary, and missions to Muslims untimely by influential representatives of
classical missions. The SPM was seeking to reach the Sudan Belt via the Nile from Aswan. The most
promising figure for this venture was the Nubian Samuel Ali Hiseen (1863-1927), who accomplished a
scripture colportage tour through Nubia. Unfortunately, he was disregarded by the first German
missionary, Johannes Kupfemagel (1866-1937).
When the SPM failed to reach the Sudan Belt due to political restrictions, Kumm and the
SPM board were divided in their strategies. Kumm planned to pursue a new route via the Niger River,
seeking support in Great Britain rather independently. The SPM, holding on to Aswan, dismissed
Kumm, and began to decline until it made a new start in 1905, but for a long time remained a
local mission work in Upper Egypt. The Sudan United Mission however, founded by the Kumms in 1904,
did indeed reach the Sudan Belt.
An analysis of the SPM reveals its strengths and weaknesses. The SPM grew out of the Holiness
movement and shared the urgency, which made faith missions successful, but also was the SPM's
weakness, as it suffered from ill-preparedness. The SPM innovatively gathered together
single women from the nobility in a community of service for missions under its
