Rap e jazz na escola pública: um estudo sobre a formação cultural e o engajamento estético de jovens do ensino médio / Rap and jazz in the public school: a study on the cultural formation and aesthetic engagement of high school youth

Ferreira, Tiago Lazzarin 29 September 2017 (has links)
The purpose of this research is to analyse the incidences of an education based on rap and jazz legacy and its contributions to the aesthetic engagement among high school students in São Paulo, Brazil. The concept of cultural formation (Bildung) as conceived by Theodor Adorno has affinity with an education for emancipation. This perspective seems to dialogue with another philosopher´s thinking, Vilém Flusser, who proposes the entailment between aesthetic gesture and political engagement through the concept of aesthetic engagement. Based on both concepts, it is expected to achieve a broader understanding on if the formative experience obtained from jazz and rap practices promotes a change of sensibility and reflective thinking. To address this purpose, it was presented some features of jazz and rap music and their social history, alongside with comments about their musical form from a philosophical point of view. From this, it were developed activities that involved musical listening and practicing, dialogues with the students, text productions and drawing in order to create self-reports. These activities occurred during Sociology classes in 2015. It is assumed that some elements that set the language of rap and jazz promotes both the immanence principle and the transmission of cultural meanings from Black Atlantic.

La chanson rap au lycée marocain : étude de cas / The rap song at the Moroccan high school : case study

Harrouchi, Zineb 18 December 2017 (has links)
The objective of this thesis is to experiment the rap song at an FLE Moroccan high school classroom. As a pedagogical objective, we have planned the development of comprehension and writing skills, by using a musical genre, which is, simultaneously, poetic and close to young high schoolers’ center of interests. For this purpose, we have arranged the thesis into three parts. In the first part, we have presented the sociolinguistic context of the target audience. Afterwards, we have exposed the educational policies by focusing on the teaching of French in Morocco. The second part encircled the underlying competencies, as well as the role of the authentic documents in an FLE class, before presenting the origins of rap songs and the peoticity of their lyrics. In the third part, we have uncovered the research protocol and field investigation. The field investigation took place at Moulay Tayeb El Alaoui high school in Sale. We have divided it into three phases, in which we have emphasized on the questionnaire and the exploration interview (devoted to the pupils and French tutors/teachers.) during the pre-investigation together with the non-participant observation amid the first status quo: a session with a poem. And the second status quo: a session with a rap song.

The research aimed at identifying the similarities between these two popular musical manifestations, ressignifying the action of cultural agents responsible for the continuance of such tradition, characterized by spoken singing. Under a cultural perspective, it created a dialogue with the interviewed subjects, in order to clarify both their world vision and the way they organize their social practices. By doing so, it was possible to see the elements which allow the comprehension of artistic and social representations of such groups.

Orality and Universality ˸ in Search of a Global Youth Speak in Translation / Oralité et Universalité ˸ A la recherche d’un parler jeune global en traduction

Levick, Tiffane 30 November 2018 (has links)
This thesis is the fruit of a research project which marries translation practice and theory. Separated into two volumes, it explores questions related to the translation of slang in fictional texts. The first volume is a critical commentary composed of three parts, and the second a translation from French into English of the novel Moi non by Patrick Goujon (Gallimard, 2003). Since the plot unfolds in the banlieue of Paris, the critical component investigates the way in which marginalised youth can express themselves through slang, a variety of non-standard language. Often representative of a specific place and identity, slang constitutes one of many forms of expression that contribute to setting marginalised youth apart from dominant groups. Such use of language raises a number of questions, both concrete and abstract in nature, when one decides to transcribe and translate it in a work of fiction. Translators often employ standard language to render this voice in the translated text or otherwise make use of an “equivalent” slang. The proposed translation of Moi non embodies an alternative method inspired by an overall informal style of writing, as well as by the creative devices employed in rap lyrics and in the creation of slang words and expressions. In an effort to avoid suggesting a specific setting outside of the banlieue, this translation seeks to identify and harness features of English shared by young people throughout the Anglosphere. This thesis thus represents an opportunity to ensure the coherence and the logic of this alternative approach to translating slang in an entire novel, and to compare this approach with that adopted by the translators of similar texts.

"Niggas ain't sticking unless they lick the kitten" : En intersektionell analys av cunnilingus i kvinnlig rap / "Niggas ain't sticking unless they lick the kitten" : An Intersectional Analysis of Cunnilingus in Female Rap

Ellen, Rosdahl January 2015 (has links)

Hålrumsvariationer vid asfalttillverkning : En fallstudie vid Skanska enligt DMAIC avseende förbättringsmöjligheter vid kalltillsatt asfaltåtervinning / Void volume variations in asphalt manufacturing : A case study at Skanska based on DMAIC regarding opportunities for improvement when using cold RAP

Johansson, Paulina January 2018 (has links)
Optimizing void volumes are essential for the serviceability of asphalt concrete pavements, as fatigue cracking, rutting and other permanent deformations can be caused by e.g. temperature changes (Monismith, 1992). Since both reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) and virgin asphalt concrete consist of mineral aggregate, bitumen and additives, RAP is worth the virgin material it replaces ton for ton (Brock & Richmonds, 2007). As the use of RAP becomes more and more popular, the complexity of asphalt manufacturing increases (Karlsson & Isacsson, 2006). This, because the recycled material is harder to characterize than virgin material. Since the usage of RAP is expected to increase in hot-mix asphalt (HMA), while little research has been made in the field of cold feed RAP, it is of great importance to investigate the void volumes with this method. During this study, ABT11 160/220 with the addition of up to 25% cold feed RAP was therefore investigated. Six Sigma’s project improvement methodology DMAIC, acronym for the five phases define, measure, analyze, improve and control, were used to get an in depth understanding for the variations in void volumes. In this method, Statistical Process Control and Design of Experiments were used to answer the research purpose, which was to investigate and evaluate the reasons to why void volumes during asphalt manufacturing varies when adding cold RAP and give recommendations for an improved production regarding void volumes. After an investigation of historic data, calculations, interviews and observations, the most important causes for variations in void volumes came from data collection, communication, resource management, material knowledge and organizational culture, where the last two are seen as root causes. Because of the research delimitations, only the material knowledge was looked into further. To extend the knowledge of the material, the factors RAP, virgin bitumen, virgin filler, manufacturing temperature and temperature for Marshall testing were analyzed through two experiments. In the first experiment, the relationship between void volumes and the temperature for Marshall testing were investigated through an OFAT study, and the second experiment was made through a 24-1 factorial design according to Split plot, in which the void volumes were measured through the normal Marshall testing temperature (135 ˚C) and through a road simulation.  The OFAT result showed that a third degree linear relationship is present between the void volumes and the Marshall testing temperature, with large changes for temperatures lower than 125 ˚C and greater than 145 ˚C. This entails an increased importance of controlling the temperature for warm-mix asphalt (WMA) and asphalt with increased volumes of RAP. The Split plot experiment showed that also bitumen and RAP are significant effects for the void volume, where decreased volumes of bitumen and increased volumes of RAP entails higher void volumes in the pavement. Over 15 % RAP also entails greater void volumes. To decrease the causes for variations in void volumes, the recommendation is to collect, evaluate, communicate and follow up data at a higher extent through implementation of statistical process control, value flow analysis and continued material studies. The organizational culture ought to be changed to create an understanding of the recommended methods. If the recommendations are followed, estimated economic savings of 11 520 000kr/year can be a reality, as well as environmental benefits of e.g. a decreased use of finite resources and reduced CO2 emissions.

[en] ESSAYS ON RAP AND SLAM POETRY IN CONTEMPORARY SÃO PAULO / [pt] ENSAIOS SOBRE O RAP E O SLAM NA SÃO PAULO CONTEMPORÂNEA

DANIELA SILVA DE FREITAS 17 August 2018 (has links)
[en] Essays on Rap and Slam Poetry in Contemporary São Paulo aims to analyze some of the transformations that have happened within the hip-hop movement in São Paulo in regards to the realm of the sung word or palavra cantada, namely rap and slam poetry, during the last twenty years - from the release of Racionais MC s Sobrevivendo no Inferno to the present moment. As the contemporary hip-hop scene in São Paulo is defined by its multiplicity, this dissertation is composed by separate essays that discuss and analyze different artistic productions. The respect for the fifth element of hip-hop culture - knowledge and its ideals of community-building, collectivity and citizenship - is what brings these productions together. Each of them deal with these matters differently, sometimes inside an independent circuit, other times fighting to occupy spaces within the mainstream. The works analyzed here, namely the work of rappers Racionais MC s, Criolo, Emicida, Karol Conka and Rico Dalasam as well as the poetry slam Slam Resistência, point to the strong interconnection between poetry and technique in São Paulo s hip-hop culture. These works want to be poiesis, in the sense that they want to produce not only poetry but also life. The thesis presented here is that such a poetic process entails the use of new languages and the creation of new logics and paths for the systems of production, reception, curatorship and promotion of art today.

The rappers we have studied at this essay live in the suburbs of Marília City. This city is located in the Middle West of São Paulo, Brazil. We have investigated the public of the rappers, especially the young people of the following suburbs: Parque das Nações and Santa Antonieta II, both located in the North of Marília. For this study, we have approached how hip-hoppers experience rivalry and how those young people understand the idea of talent. Thus, we have related how the field research appears as an experience, because some references had to be rethought, like Relativism and the authority of the researcher. We have emphasized speeches that came from the ideas of the lyrics, their relationship with musicality and the social context of their authors. Some differences established by the hip-hoppers of some people of their community and of others hip-hoppers have been analyzed at this essay. We have also approached how talent can be articulated in the process of differing young people from other young people and how talent can distance them of the social uniformity. Moreover we have observed the mechanisms that confer social recognition for the rap artists, because an artist can reach legitimacy if he made songs that speak about economy and if he used his talent to make social changes for their suburbs. However we have also observed how the conflict occurs in the artist life like a gift, in other words, the ambiguity among collective and private.
