The aim of this study is to analyse the contemporary art critical reception of Siri Derkert’s Ristningar i naturbetong (translates to Engravings in natural concrete) (1965) at the metro station of Östermalmstorg in central Stockholm, and further contextualising the reception within the art debate of modern and public art in 1960’s Sweden. Using linguist Norman Fairclough’s three step-discourse analysis as both methodological and theoretical starting points, combined with art historian Wolfgang Kemp's reception aesthetics, archived newspaper articles, principally from the year 1965, are read and analysed in the study. Aided by a thematic division of the analysis through the themes expression, content, material and permanence some broad conclusions can be made. The results of the study conclude the reception of Derkert’s public work of art as generally positive. There is a consensus in the view of Ristningar i naturbetong in its originality, expressivity, modernity and, in regards to material and technique, experimentality. The artwork’s musical elements, political statements and use of the Norwegian natural concrete, are to a high extent represented in the analyzed articles. In several places the language connotes religious themes in its comparisons of Derkert’s artwork to churches and cathedrals, an element in the reception that is interpreted as a way to enhance the future understanding and potential of the work of art.

Från tomt notblad till klingande toner : Att medverka i komponerandet av och studera in ett nytt stycke för blockflöjtAlex, Gullberg January 2024 (has links)
I detta arbete beskrivs samarbetet mellan en blockflöjtist och en kompositör i kompositionsprocessen av ett solostycke för blockflöjt. Studien tog sin bakgrund i en vilja att bidra till blockflöjtens utveckling inom samtida musik. Studien åsyftade att undersöka tidigare nämnda samarbetsprocess samt instuderingsprocessen av det resulterande stycket för instrumenttypen voiceflute, i synnerhet hur instuderingsprocessen påverkades av att stycket aldrig tidigare tolkats eller uppförts. För att uppnå detta hölls frekventa möten mellan musiker och kompositör och både samarbetsprocess och instuderingsprocess dokumenterades genom loggföring. Denna metod resulterade i ett tätt samarbete där både musiker och kompositör tillförde värdefulla kunskaper till både kompositions- och instuderingsprocessen. Samarbetet ledde till ett solostycke för voiceflute, Väntan i Nattavaara. Stycket är väl lämpat till voiceflutens egenskaper och utnyttjar många av blockflöjtens unika uttrycksmöjligheter och alternativa tekniker. Genom studien genererades således ett värdefullt tillskott till den moderna blockflöjtsrepertoaren. Särskilt värde ligger i att stycket skrevs till voiceflute, en sällan förekommande blockflöjtstyp i nutida musik. Studien har även lett till personlig och konstnärlig utveckling för kompositör såväl som musiker. Det finns dessutom vidare forskningsmöjligheter inom området. / This thesis describes the collaboration between a recorder player and a composer in the process of composing a solo piece for recorder. The study was born of a desire to contribute to the development of the recorder in contemporary music. The study aimed to investigate the previously mentioned collaboration process as well as the process of interpreting the resulting piece written for the instrument type voice flute, in particular how the interpretation process was affected by the piece never having been interpreted or performed before. To achieve this, frequent meetings were held between composer and musician, and both the collaboration process and the study process were documented through journaling. This method resulted in a close collaboration where both musician and composer contributed valuable knowledge to the composition and interpretation processes. The collaboration led to a solo piece for voice flute, Väntan i Nattavaara. The piece is well suited to the characteristics of the voice flute and utilizes many of the recorder’s unique methods of expression and extended techniques. The study thus generated a valuable addition to the modern recorder repertoire. Particular value lies in the fact that the piece was written for the voice flute, a type of recorder rarely found in contemporary music. The study has also led to personal and artistic development for both composer and musician. Additionally, there are further research opportunities in the area.

I den här texten reflekterar jag kring hur erfarenheter av motstånd kan påverka min musik samt hur motstånd kan användas som verktyg i en skapandeprocess. Skapande är för mig motstånd, samt att göra motstånd. Motstånd kan här betyda tyngd och tryck, men verkar också som kraft och energi. Motstånd i den här texten är rörelser. Motstånd som håller emot, som trycker ned, som ger frustration och tyngd men också det motstånd som ger styrka och en sorts vild, ilsken glädje. Motståndskraft är avbrytande. Motstånd kan vara erfarenheter av förtryck, erfarenheter som sätter sig i kroppen. Motstånd ger kraft, och motstånd är närhet. Mitt konstnärliga examensprojekt har varit att komponera för en stråktrio, där jag undersökt intimiteten och den kroppsliga närheten i instrumentens klangkroppar samt mellan musikerna. Som en ingång till detta ämne skriver jag om motstånd, ett uttryck som finns i min musik och som även är ett perspektiv jag använder mig av i min skapandeprocess. För mig är det ordlösheten i det kroppsliga som fascinerar mig, det som intellektet inte kan formulera. Och i kroppen finns lyssnandet. Det är kroppens kunskap som vill uttrycka sig i musiken. Till grund för denna text ligger stycket Vridna, Vågsång som uruppfördes av Julija Morgan (violin), Tove Bagge (viola) och Hanna Cronhjort (kontrabas) den 16 april 2016. Les récents développements de l’intelligence artificielle, de l’Internet des objets et des outils de reconnaissance vocale, couplés à la démocratisation des appareils électroniques de grande consommation et à la couverture Internet étendue maintenant disponible dans plusieurs pays industrialisés, ont permis la mise en marché à grande échelle d’assistants vocaux personnels, qui consistent en des logiciels installés sur différents appareils tels que des téléphones cellulaires et des haut-parleurs connectés permettant aux utilisateurs de ces appareils d’interagir avec ceux-ci au moyen de commandes vocales.
L’adoption de technologies permettant aux utilisateurs d’interagir avec des objets connectés à l’Internet au moyen de leur voix connaît une forte croissance, et celles-ci constitueront bientôt l’un des modes d’interaction privilégiés pour utiliser l’Internet. Considérant la vaste nature des opérations réalisées au moyen de l’Internet en général et de l’Internet des objets en particulier, il convient de se questionner sur la manière de documenter les interactions entre un utilisateur et un assistant vocal.
Le présent mémoire adopte une approche comparant le cadre juridique québécois à différents cadres juridiques avec l’objectif de procéder à une qualification technique et juridique des assistants vocaux et des éléments de preuve en découlant. Dans un second temps, ce mémoire s’intéresse à la recevabilité et à la force probante de ces éléments de preuve dans le contexte du droit civil québécois. L’auteur se penche sur les conditions de recevabilité, discutant de la qualification du document technologique et de ses attributs, nommément ainsi qu’en premier lieu son authenticité et son intégrité et de la proportionnalité. L’auteur discute des exceptions à la recevabilité, soit spécifiquement l’atteinte aux droits fondamentaux et le respect du secret professionnel. Ensuite, l’auteur discute de la force probante de la preuve technologique en avançant que la compréhension de la technologie sous-jacente est l’élément clef dans l’évaluation de la force probante de tout élément de preuve technologique. L’auteur propose que l’intelligence artificielle relève d’une nouvelle catégorie de preuve qui commande peut-être des changements à la procédure et aux principes judiciaires québécois. / Recent developments in the fields of artificial intelligence, of the Internet of Things and of voice recognition, together with the accessibility to electronic devices and wide Internet connection in the industrialized countries, led to the introduction of virtual personal assistants. This software, installed on various devices such as mobile phones and smart speakers, allow their users to interact with these devices using their voice.
As these technologies allow their users to interact with connected devices through the Internet, they will most likely become the main gateway to the Internet in a near future. Considering the great variety of tasks performed with connected devices, the legal questions regarding evidence generated by and collected from their use must now be asked.
First, this master’s thesis will compare the normative frameworks of both Quebec and other jurisdictions in order to define, technologically and legally, the virtual personal assistants and the evidence they generate.
In a second time, this thesis will focus on the admissibility and the probative value of the evidence garnered from virtual personal assistants, in the context of Quebec’s civilist tradition. The author focuses on the conditions of admissibility and on the designation of technological documents and of their characteristics, analyzing first and foremost the criteria of authenticity and integrity and the questions of proportionality. The author discusses exceptions to admissibility, especially the violation of a fundamental right and privilege considerations. Furthermore, the author discusses the probative value of technological evidence, proposing that the understanding of the underlying technology is a key factor in the determination of the probative value of any technological evidence. Finally, the author suggests that artificial intelligence creates a new category of technological evidence that might be calling for changes in the judicial principles and procedures of the province of Quebec.

Cloud-based assistants like the Google Home and the Amazon Alexa have become ubiquitous in our homes. Users can simply communicate with the devices using a smartphone application. There are privacy concerns associated with cloud-based assistants. For example, users do not know what type of information is being sent to the device manufacturer, if the device is stealthily listening to conversations, data retention, or who else has access to the data. Privacy is about perception. The goal of this study is to determine user privacy concerns regarding cloud-based assistants by adopting a quantitative research method. The study used a privacy decision framework that lists three core components, which are technology controls, understanding user privacy preference, and government regulations. The research used Dervin's sensemaking model to describe users' privacy perception using the privacy decision framework and improved on a privacy perception survey instrument from previous dissertations. An understanding of user privacy concerns with cloud-based assistants is required to provide a comprehensive privacy guidance to stakeholders. The significance of this study is in the identification of the privacy perception of users of cloud-based assistants and the extent to which the components of the theoretical framework can impact user privacy perception. The results of this study serve as a guide for device manufacturers and other stakeholders in prioritizing privacy design decisions.
