Niizuma Ottoson, Yuri January 2017 (has links)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to investigate what kinds of support that is available for school librarians in Japan and in Sweden and make a comparison between the countries. The research questions are: What kinds of support are available for school librarians in Japan? What kinds of support are available for school librarians in Sweden? What are the similarities and differences between the support to school librarians in Japan and Sweden? The methodology used was semi-structured interviews. Three interviews with school librarians were conducted in each country. The theoretical framework used is David V. Loertscher’s Library media specialist taxonomy and Cristina Sacco Judge’s model for school libraries in Scotland. The results of the study are that the possibility to supplement the collection in the school library by extern loans is good in both countries. Regarding the school librarian’s need for professional information and support, conferences and courses seem to play a bigger role in Japan. Advice and help from experienced colleagues in the vicinity to the school seems to be important in Sweden but more or less non-existing in Japan.

Skolbibliotekariens självbild : Och hur den påverkar den upplevda positionen i skolverksamheten / The self-image of the school librarian : and how it affects the perceived status in a school environment

Sjöblom, Lina January 2020 (has links)
The self-image of the school librarian: and how it affects the perceived status in a school environment. This paper examines the role of the school librarian and how they perceive themselves and how they think other actors in the school environment perceive them. The purpose of this study is to highlight how the school librarian’s professional identity and the teachers understanding of it correlates to form the impact on the school librarian position. Semistructured interviews were conducted with five school librarians. The theoretical framework used to analyze the result was Montiel-Overall’s TLC theory, Centerwall’s performativity theory derived from Judith Butler’s feminist theory on performativity, and Örom’s theory on librarian identities. In conclusion, the results show that all of the interviewed acknowledged that they’re all in a position of power to define their own role, and that at the same time the teachers do not have enough information to know what that role is supposed to be. This means that the school librarians liken themselves to other school employees in more practical roles instead of an educational one.

Bortom det planerade : Folkbibliotekariers arbete med medie- och informationskunnighet gentemot unga / Beyond the planned : public librarians work with media and information literacy towards young people

Hyttstrand, Malin, Carlsson, Patrik January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to analyse how Swedish public libraries work with media and information literacy towards young people. The research questions are What does the youth activity look like in public libraries? How do public librarians use the term media and information literacy? And how is the work with media and information literacy conducted? These are based on the conception of the librarian's knowledge of the concept media and information literacy and Swedish public libraries work for democracy and young people's popular education. In order to answer these research questions we interviewed six librarians working in different public libraries in different counties. The theory used in this study is based on Sanna Talja’s study about different attitudes towards the library’s collection. The attitudes are referred to as The General Education Repertoire, The Alternative Repertoire and The Demand Repertoire and these attitudes were also used as a framework when analysing the information from our interviews. The results show that depending on what resources the public library has access to, the youth activities look different and the concept of media and information literacy is not well used by Swedish public librarians and that the work with media and information literacy regarding young people is beyond the planned.

The significance of reading promotion activities in school libraries : A quantitative study about how upper secondary students estimate that school libraries affect reading motivation

Ringqvist, Siri January 2021 (has links)
This study used a quantitative survey to determine whether upper secondary students were motivated to read by their school libraries’ reading promotion activities, as well as how these activities affected the students’ reading habits. The study also investigated the students that had not attended these activities, in order to discover correlations that might affect whether a student attends one of these activities or not. The online survey was distributed to 8 schools, and 221 students answered the survey. The data was later analyzed using Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient together with descriptive statistics. The study found that many students felt motivated to read after they had attended reading promotion activities, and a few students started reading more after they had attended an activity. Visits to schools from authors turned out to have the most positive effects on the students’ reading motivation and reading habits. Many students did not believe the library could arrange an activity that would interest them, and the study found no clear correlations as to why that was other than the fact that they seemed to lack interest in these activities. The results also show that a lot of students would be interested in attending activities at their school libraries if their school libraries arranged more activities that could improve the students’ study techniques.

Informationskunnighet och sökkritik i styrdokument : Om skolbibliotek och digital informationssökning / Information literacy and critical assessment of search in governing documents : School libraries and digital information retrieval

Stålnacke, Sebastian, Lundgren, Gabriella January 2021 (has links)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to examine the digital media landscape's requirements for information skills as they are reflected in the governing documents regulating activities in school libraries. This is done through a content analysis based on a theoretical framework, derived from Media and Information Literacy (MIL), that examine the existence of central concepts and how they are presented. The study concludes that the central concepts of information retrieval and digital literacy is a common occurrence within governing documents regulating school library activities. This is expressed in the governing documents through wordings that aim to promote students' competencies and abilities, their learning, and the planning of school library activities. The critical assessment of search is, however, barely visible among the curricula. Although it can be discerned in between the lines of the governing documents. Information literacy is prominent in the documents and is described as a basic ability in a modern information society and for an active citizenship. The role of school libraries in relation to MIL must coincide with its role for developing students' reading and language skills. The study shows how school libraries are attributed to several roles related to MIL. The school librarian is described as an information expert, a teacher or pedagogical resource, an initiator in MIL, as well as being responsible for MIL-training for colleagues.

Skolbibliotek och skolbibliotekariens roll : litteraturfrämjande arbete inom skolbiblioteksverksamheten

Svensson, Cecilia January 2022 (has links)
Vad ingår i skolbibliotekariens arbete? /
Slutgiltigt godkännandedatum: 2022-01-17

Skolbibliotekens arbete med hbtq+ / Swedish school libraries and LGBTQ+

Videla, Ruby, Åhrlin, Jenny January 2022 (has links)
The issues regarding LGBTQ+ are relevant in today’s society, not least for young people who are forming their understanding of themselves and the society around them. School libraries are considered a valuable resource when addressing these issues in Swedish schools. However, the subject of how school libraries include LGBTQ+ perspectives in their work is a relatively unexplored area of research. The aim of this study is to contribute to the field of research within Library and Information Science by exploring how the Swedish school libraries work with LGBTQ+. A questionnaire was sent to school library staff working with students in primary and secondary schools in Sweden. The results from this study show which methods are most commonly used by school library staff when addressing LGBTQ+ issues and also what support they have and use concerning this work. The authors also conclude that more research is needed to gain further insight into the subject of how Swedish school libraries work with LGBTQ+.

The mobile school library : A case study of a mobile library’s function as aschool library

Oskarsson, Monika January 2021 (has links)
