Sociální podnikání jako příležitost pro uplatnění starších osob na trhu práce / Social Entrepreneurship as an Opportunity for the Employment of Older People on the Labor Market

(in English) The aim of this master's thesis is to find out possibilities of elderly people employment in social businesses in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part describes a social entrepreneurship, defines it and gives its legal frame and examples of such businesses in Europe and in the Czech Republic. The elderly are defined according to their characteristics and also according to the possible link to long term unemployment. The empirical part of the thesis focuses on the overall situation of the elderly in social businesses and on factors possibly affecting their employment in this kind of businesses. It was found out in the research that the selected target group is one of those most at risk on the labour market. At the same time, this group is one of the least supported and monitored not only in the social businesses. However, persons 50+ may become a significant group on the labour market in the future. The final part of this thesis stresses out that it is vital to change our point of view on this target group and their support on the field of active labour market policy, but, above all, to make use of the opportunity to employ these people in social entrepreneurship. The aim of the present thesis is to study the factors that affect social entrepreneurship from the perspective of the entrepreneur. The initial review provides definition of key terminology and a summary of the development of the concept of social economics, the relation between social entrepreneurship and social politics as well as that of social entrepreneurship and social work, and the specifics of company management in social enterprises. Ultimately, a review of the present state of social entrepreneurship in the Czech Republic is presented. The data for qualitative research was collected during interviews with 12 executives of various social enterprises based in 9 regions of the Czech Republic using the semi-structured interview method. Collected data was analyzed using inductive-deductive analysis. The research focuses on the requirements of providing employment for disadvantaged persons and the prerequisites and drawbacks of running a social enterprise. The research has shown that the main drawbacks of social entrepreneurship include insufficient knowledge of the specifics pertaining to the target group of employees; profit-oriented motivation; insufficient business training; excessive demands on the performance of disadvantaged employees; insufficient skills and working habits on the part...

This thesis deals with the phenomenon of social farming; its aim is to describe this phenomenon, understand it and critically discuss it in the context of social economics and social entrepreneurship. The text also proposes other frames of thought - social integration and social work, multifunctional agriculture, the Green Care concept and the social entrepreneurial theory in which social farming can be considered. The thesis also gives insight into foreign and Czech socio-agricultural practice. It uses methodology based on the principles of exploratory and descriptive case studies since it focuses on a small sample of a phenomenon not yet described in which context and content are observed. The study is divided into two sections: a theoretical part and a research part, each of which draw on professional literature, semi-structured in-depth interviews with representatives of social farms, other primary data and documents and secondary sources. The analysis of the research results displays an assessment of Czech social agriculture, which can be described as delayed when compared to western Europe, mainly due to the historical development of agriculture and social arenas of the last seventy years, while also serving as a reaction to certain contemporary social trends. The diploma thesis focuses on social enterprises and their use of marketing tools for their communication. In its first part the field where they operate within the Czech Republic is laid out including the legislative setting. Since the concept is relatively new here, approaches and inspiration from abroad are a cited. The part dedicated to marketing introduces different approaches to marketing presentations and to the overall communication of social enterprises and social firms. The outcome of this was to portray the possibilities of their communication with their target audiences. The research itself looks at the communication of social enterprises from several viewpoints. First of all it aims to show the approach taken by the subjects of social economy themselves. This is done through questionnaires and content analysis of documents. Also the view on the matter is expressed through an interview with a consultant of NESsT, an organization which deals with the theme of social entrepreneurship. The last angle, which is represented by a questionnaire for a selected segment of the public looks at their view of social enterprises and firms and their communication.

Securing supplemental revenue in private elementary school: A case study of one Jewish community day school

Private schools often face a gap between their tuition income and the cost of the educational program. Private school administrators, tasked with balancing the school budget, seek to fill this gap through the acquisition of supplemental revenue. Private school administrators have often reported feeling unprepared for the unique responsibilities of the position. In addition, both individual and organizational donors have been noted to assert influence on educational programs. This study adds to the literature specific to supplemental revenue practices for elementary private schools and was influenced by the field of social entrepreneurship. A qualitative case study approach was used. Through purposeful sampling, a private school site was selected in California with fewer than 200 elementary students, evidence of successful fundraising, and tuition under $10,000. The chosen site was a Jewish community day school operating a program for infants through sixth graders. It was the only Jewish school in the county and adjacent areas. Data was collected from ten participant interviews, multiple documents, the school website, and observations. Data components were coded for themes, and a constant comparative method of analysis was applied. The data revealed five themes: (a) systems, (b) purposes of fundraising, (c) constraints on supplemental revenue, (d) operational concerns, and (e) relationships. Thirteen conclusions were drawn from the study. Unanticipated elements included a culture of student fundraising for charity, the coexistence of separate fundraising arms within the school, restrictions religion brought to supplemental revenue efforts, the role tuition discounts played in creating the schools price-cost gap, and differences in donor motivation behind monument building and annual operational support. Recommendations were made for both practitioners and researchers, including the illustration of applying social entrepreneurship to private schools.

Syfte Rapportens syften var att undersöka möjligheter för att ta fram en upcyclingskollektion i Sverige, där materialet är överbliven och obrukad andrahandstextil som Human Bridge samlat in. Metod En kvalitativ forskningsstrategi med induktiv forskningsprocess har använts som metodansats. Den kvalitativa forskningen är mer flexibel och mindre strukturerad än den kvantitativa. Utöver litteraturstudier är rapporten huvudsakligen baserad på en semistrukturerad intervju med personal från Human bridge. För att analysera den insamlade datan användes Business Model Canvas och SWOT-analys. Resultat Resultatet visar att det finns potential för en upcyclingskollektion, men även en del risker. Exempelvis ser vi att det finns en kunskapsbrist när det gäller textil inom organisationen men att det inte råder brist på upcyclingsmaterial. Originalitet/Värde I motsats till majoriteten av forskning vi kunnat hitta, så fokuserar denna rapport på upcycling som en affärsmodell istället för som en designstrategi. / Purpose The purpose of the report was to investigate possibilities for producing an upcycling collection in Sweden, where the material is leftover second hand textiles collected by Human Bridge. Method A qualitative research strategy with an inductive research process has been used as a methodological approach. Qualitative research is more flexible and less structured than quantitative research. In addition to literature studies, the report is mainly based on a semi-structured interview with staff from Human bridge. Business Model Canvas and SWOT-analysis were used to analyze the collected data. Results The results show that there is potential for an upcycling collection, but also some risks. For example, we see that there is a lack of knowledge regarding textiles within the organization, but that there is no shortage of upcycling materials. Value In contrast to the majority of research we have been able to find, this report focuses on upcycling as a business model instead of as a design strategy.

En kvalitativ studie om hur socialt entreprenörskap utformar sig i en Svensk idrottsförening / A qualitative study of how social entrepreneurship takes shape in a Swedish athletic club

Syfte: Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka hur Hammarby Fotboll utövar socialt entreprenörskap genom Spontanfotboll. Detta bidrar med viktig kunskap om hur socialt entreprenörskap praktiseras. Studien visar ett exempel på hur Riksidrottsförbundets policyer påverkar idrottsföreningars arbete med inkludering och att nå vissa grupper i samhället.  Metod: Studien grundar sig i kvalitativ induktiv metod, vilket innebär att materialet samlas in först och analyserar för att sedan skapa teori, modell eller förklaring. Materialet har samlats in genom semistrukturerade kvalitativa intervjuer, en fallstudie samt dokumentanalys.  Teori: Studiens teoretiska perspektiv är Pierre Bourdieus fält och kapitalbegrepp samt CSR och socialt entreprenörskap.  Resultat och slutsatser: Att arbeta med socialt entreprenörskap handlar om att kunna tillfredsställa sociala behov som samhället står inför. Genom Samhällsmatchens (Hammarby Fotbolls avdelning för social entreprenörskap) initiativ Spontanfotboll erbjuder de ungdomar en kostnadsfri aktivitet där de kan spela fotboll under helgkvällar istället för att vara ute under vintermörkret. Detta skapar en meningsfull fritid för ungdomarna där de inte är ute sena kvällar i riskfyllda miljöer, vilket leder till att det upplevs lugnare i området under de tider Spontanfotboll bedrivs. Att använda sig av lokala ledare som leder aktiviteten har visat sig funka bra för Samhällsmatchen. De använder de lokala ledarna för att marknadsföra aktiviteten och når de lokala invånarna mer effektivt samtidigt som de ger ett första jobb för ungdomarna. Detta skapar en trygghet och legitimitet för Spontanfotboll. Resultaten visar hur socialt entreprenörskap kan praktiseras i en av Sveriges största idrottsföreningar, samt tillvägagångssätt för att påverka ungdomars idrottsdeltagande positivt. Studiens slutsats är att Samhällsmatchen och Hammarby Fotboll initiativ Spontanfotboll är framgångsrikt för att de är medvetna om sin roll i lokalsamhället, värnar om de lokala invånarna, samarbetar med lokala aktörer och tillfredställer sociala behov. / Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate how Hammarby Football practices social entrepreneurship through Spontanfotboll. This contributes important knowledge about how social entrepreneurship is practiced. The study shows an example of how the Swedish Sports Confederation's policies affect athletic clubs' work with inclusion and reaching certain groups in society. This creates a meaningful free time for the young people where they are not out late at night in risky environments, which leads to a safer feeling in the area during the times Spontanfootball is played. Using local leaders who lead the activity has proven to work well for Samhällsmatchen. They use the local leaders to promote the activity and reach the local residents more effectively while providing a first job for young people. This creates a feeling of security and legitimacy for Spontanfotboll. The results show how social entrepreneurship can be practiced in one of Sweden's largest athletic clubs, as well as approaches to positively influence young people's sports participation. The study's conclusion is that Samhällsmatchen and Hammarby Football ́s initiative Spontanfotboll are successful because they are aware of their role in the local community, they care for the local residents, cooperate with local actors and satisfy social needs.

The main methodological approach is thenarrative approach. Five women social entrepreneurs from Gaza Strip areinterviewed, and their full narratives are presented as empirical material so that theirvoices are heard and their fluctuating experiences are recognized. The narratives areanalyzed based on the three pillars of social entrepreneurship, social mission,sustainable profit, and social change. Also, the motives and challenges are analyzedbased on the socio-cultural and economic contexts of Gaza Strip. According to thisthesis research, family support and education are fundamental factors in enablingwomen’s social entrepreneurship in Gaza Strip. Also, women social entrepreneurschoose social entrepreneurship because they are inspired by their education, thedesire for personal development and recognition, and helping others through socialentrepreneurship. Social Entrepreneurship and Social Enterprises are an emerging trend. An increasing number of individuals are finding ways to address a social issue through their entrepreneurial skills. As well as increasing number of corporations and investing organizations are looking for ventures that address a social issue to fulfill their social responsibility. Thus, it is increasingly becoming important for the social entrepreneurs to measure and report their impacts to society in an accurate way. This research seeks to find out the challenges faced by social entrepreneurs while setting up social impact measurements in their ventures and the solutions adopted by them. Through a series of semi‐structured interviews with successful social entrepreneurs, this research collects qualitative data that increases the knowledge in this area and contributes in a better understanding of the challenges faced by social entrepreneurs. This research found that Theory Of Change is the most commonly used method and is preferred by practitioners as it is easy to implement. The research summarises the efforts it takes to implement the measurements, recommends best practices or advice to make impact measurement easier and useful. Also, a framework is developed that can be used in setting up measurements in a social venture.
