Jorie Graham's "The Guardian Angel of the Little Utopia": The Truth of Mystery and Moonlight in Quota

Luna-Grochocki, Sheryl 05 1900 (has links)
The dissertation includes a critical essay on Jorie Graham's "The Guardian Angel of the Little Utopia and a full-length collection of poetry entitled Moonlight in Quota. The essay is a critical examination which argues that Graham's poems question Western anthropocentric thought through her constant arrangement of particular images (flowers, yellow sky, leaves) and her subsequent questioning of such intellectual and linguistic arrangements. Graham grapples with ideas of perception, questions the historical concepts of truth and knowledge, and engages in linguistic play both musically and imagistically. Each section is tied together by some overriding theme or persistent image: 1.) forgetting, Mexican-American border scenes 2.) poverty and faith shown through images of marginalized characters 3.) Artistic creation as a means for the survival for the "other."

Samverkan mellan hem och förskola : En kvalitativ studie om hur förskollärare upplever samverkan på relationsnivå med vårdnadshavare / Collaboration between home and preschool : A qualitative study of how preschool teachers experience collaboration at the relationship level with guardians

Green, Linnéa, Green, Viktoria January 2022 (has links)
Preschool is an arena for meetings between different people, especially with different guardians. Preschool teachers and guardians have the children as a common denominator and strive for things to go well for them. One of the prerequisites for the children's development to be successful is that there is a secure relationship and good collaboration between home and preschool. The purpose of this study is to investigate how preschool teachers view collaboration with guardians at the relationship level. The study's questions are the following: How do preschool teachers experience the relationship with guardians to promote parental cooperation? What challenges and opportunities do preschool teachers experience before collaborating with guardians? An inductive qualitative method with the research method interviews has been used in this study. This method was chosen when we were interested in exploring preschool teachers' experiences of the phenomenon of collaboration at the relationship level with guardians. Through a non-probable sample, six relevant respondents with knowledge and competence in the subject were selected. The study is based on and analyzed from the phenomenological perspective and the socio-cultural perspective. The results show that the basis for good collaboration at the relationship level between preschool teachers and guardians is trust, sensitivity, open and secure communication and that preschool teachers and guardians see each other as equals.

Hur uppfattas vårdnadshavares inflytande över förskolans utbildning? : En fenomenografisk undersökning utifrån förskollärares och barnskötares perspektiv / How is parental/guardian influence in preschool education perceived? : A phenomenographic study from the perspective of preschool teachers and childminders

Johansson, Cecilia, Yu, Eleen January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine how preschool teachers’ and childminders’ perceive parental/guardian influence in preschool. This qualitative study is based on individual interviews with five preschool teachers and childminders representing a wide range of professional experiences and backgrounds. A phenomenographic approach was used to highlight the variations in the way parental/guardian influence was perceived. The variations were then analysed using Alasuutari’s (2010) horizontal and vertical frames of power to determine power relations between preschool teachers/childminders and parents/guardians. The results were further analysed through Moss’ (2007) views on democratic practices in the preschool setting. The results of this study show that both preschool teachers and childminders acknowledge the parental/guardian knowledge and expertise of their own children and place significance on open communication and building a trusting relationship. However, preschool teachers and childminders exerted their professional background when it came to matters regarding the preschool’s pedagogy. This finding alludes to the practice that preschool teachers and childminders attempt to regulate and limit parental/guardian influence under certain circumstances, which is not in line with Moss’ views on democratic practices. In addition the study found that an uncertainty exists among preschool teachers and childminders in regards to what parental/guardian influence actually means.

Cultural reporting and the production of cultural reviews in selected South African newspapers : A case study of jazz music and musicians

Rule, Darryl 10 December 2008 (has links)
Arts reporting in the contemporary South African press seems to be in somewhat of a crisis. Although on the surface the “entertainment” and “lifestyle” supplements of the major newspapers seem to be thriving, on closer inspection, it will be found that the journalism is severely lacking in critical analysis, creativity and useful information. This research report will use the reporting of jazz found in the arts supplements of two major newspapers - THISDAY and Mail&Guardian - to investigate the production of cultural reporting, and to question the kind of messages and representations the print media is sending out to the public concerning arts and culture. The research will show that economic pressures from both media owners and advertisers for profit maximisation are having a detrimental effect, and that the print media is taking a passive role in the production of arts reporting, leading to a media that is formulaic, gossip- and celebrity-news driven, and essentially uncritical.

Psykisk ohälsa i skolan - Ett kuratorsperspektiv

Friberg, Rebecka January 2014 (has links)
Mental illness in school – A counselors perspective - The purpose of the study is to examine school counselors work with students (13-15 years of age) who are struggling with mental illness. Focus on mental illness isdiscussed in a school context. From the school counselors perspective questionslike, what kind of working methods are they using and, how they collaborate areexamined. The research design is based on a qualitative approach, with ten Semistructured interviews with ten different informants who work as a counsellor at 10different schools around Skåne. The theories that highlights and are used foranalyzing the empirical material are the ecological systems theory (also calleddevelopment in context or human ecology theory), social facts theory, networktheory and network and exchange theory. The theories overall highlights theimportance of knowledge what causes the mental illness and the importance ofcollaboration between different authorities. Results in the study shows that, fromthe counselors experience, mental illness is increasing among younger studentsand is often related to stress caused by different factors within the school. Thestudy show a pattern that the counselors work with the same type of counsellingmethods. Some of them also mentions new types of technique in their work withthe children such as DISA and COOL kids. Another pattern is that the counselorshighlights the importance of collaboration, both within school but also with otherauthorities. A pattern is also that the school counselors find that the collaborationis difficult and that other authorities do not always want to collaborate, authoritieslike the social services and the child psychiatry. This is a very serious problemknowing that the mental illness is increasing. Another pattern in the study is thatthe counselors point out that they need more time to support the students, andmore understanding from politicians about their work of helping the student in theschool.

Comparative Research on The Reports of Covid-19 in China from The Guardian/The Daily Telegraph

Zeng, Qiwei January 2022 (has links)
In December of 2019, the outbreak of COVID-19 in Wuhan, China, marked the beginning of the pandemic and the most extensive global public health crisis of the 21st century. Globally, as of April 2022, there have been 490 million confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 6 million death. The COVID-19 pandemic also impacted every member of the world and changed the world and everyone's way of living. The first stage of the COVID-19 outbreak in China has attracted significant attention from the media worldwide. The western press carried out massive coverage from the beginning. The British media made extensive and detailed reports on China's COVID-19 situation and maintained continuous attention for the next two years. Together, these reports have painted a panorama of lives under the haze of COVID-19 in China and presented it to the readers.  However, no news media organization can fully present a news event to its audience in its original form, which often edits and changes information based on their needs—choosing the events to report with different angles and tones to constitute the news framing. The news frame is constructed by the media's values and political stance, and this choice of news framing may ultimately affect their target audience. The covid-19 outbreak in China later affected the whole world has been a huge news event. This paper will conduct a systematic, comprehensive study and analysis of the news coverage from The Guardian (a famous British left-wing media) and The Daily Telegraph (a famous British right-wing press) in China's Covid-19 situation to understand how they structure news stories.  Based on research on the subject and content of the Guardian/Daily Telegraph coverage, according to the theme and scope of its reports and divided into seven analysis framings: general coverage of COVID-19, pandemic restriction status, economic impact, COVID-19 origin, concealment of early cases, and vaccination. I will conduct qualitative and quantitative research and analysis based on the changes in the report's focuses, changes in the reporting rates, and opinion trends. Please find out how they construct the news framing while reporting COVID-19 in China. Further study the differences in the frames of two major press by analyzing the focus and perspectives of their coverage. Analyze the differences between two press views under the same framing at the same event. What is the reason for the difference in news framing between The Daily Telegraph and The Guardian?

Power Metal : Tre låtar jämförs och genrekonventioner diskuteras / Power Metal : Comparing three songs and discussing genre conventions

Holm, Christoffer January 2024 (has links)
Dessa blev Blind Guardians Imaginations From the Other Side, Helloweens Mr. Torture, samt Rhapsodys Dawn of Victory.

How to be a good god man? : Humanitarianism in conflict among gode män and foster homes for unaccompanied minors following the Swedish migration turn

Ekerstedt, Malin January 2022 (has links)
In 2015 Sweden experienced a large increase in the number of asylum-seekers arriving in the country. Among them were 35,000 unaccompanied minors. As a response, a rollback of migrant rights was introduced beginning in November that year. This study examines the experiences of people who volunteered as guardians/foster homes for unaccompanied minors and subsequently followed them through the asylum systems during this period. The research is based on 12 in-depth interviews with guardians/foster parents. Three major themes are identified within the interview data: Unreliable systems/injustice, Going above and beyond and (Unexpected) solidarity. The findings suggest that Sweden’s adoption of much harsher migration policies made the work of guardians/foster homes increasingly difficult to carry out to a level that provided the necessary support for these children. The guardians/foster parents also found the asylum systems to be untrustworthy and unjust to a point where the unaccompanied minors’ rights were not upheld. Affectionate relationships with the unaccompanied minors and acts of solidarity by persons working within the systems and in civil society were counter-weights providing guardians/foster parents with energy and hope.

For the best interest of the child and our safety : A survey study on guardians’ perspectives on collaboration between home and preschool

Haugen, Mikaela January 2024 (has links)
The purpose of the study is to contribute knowledge about collaboration between home and preschool from the perspective of guardians. In the study, guardians' perceptions of collaboration between home and preschool are highlighted. The study's method is based on both the quantitative and the qualitative field and consists of a survey with both open and closed questions. Phenomenography has formed the study's methodological approach, which takes its starting point in examining how a phenomenon can be perceived differently by a group of people. The survey was answered by 70 guardians and the data was collected via Survey&Report. The collected data was analyzed through univariate analysis and a phenomenographic analysis model. Of the 70 guardians who took part in the study, there were three who find that collaboration worked poorly at their children's preschools, while the rest perceive that collaboration at their children's preschools works well or very well. The results show that the guardians see collaboration between home and preschool as important and what motivates guardians to collaboration is their children. Furthermore, it is stated in the results that the majority of the guardians consider that commitment, good dialogue and understanding of each other's conditions are very important factors for a good collaboration to be created. The results indicate that guardians associate good collaboration with communication and information. Through analysis, it appears that there are variations regarding how the guardians wish to communicate and what information they request. The results also display that there are variations in perceptions regarding what motivates the guardians to collaborate and why they perceive the synergy between home and preschool as significant. The study's conclusion is that it is important for preschool teachers to be aware that these variations occur so that they can grasp how and what interact and that this is varied. This so all guardians are given the opportunity to experience that collaboration between home and preschool works.
