”Vad vill du ha för kaffe? Jag tar svart som mina kvinnor” : En intervjustudie om svarta kvinnors upplevelser av objektifiering / ”How would you like your coffee? Black, like my women” : An interview study about black women's experiences of objectification

Revend, Kajin January 2020 (has links)
Objectification is one of the most common forms of discrimination towards women. Contemporary research in the subject is predominantly quantitative and has mostly been done on white women in a North American context. The aim of this study was therefore to examine black women’s experiences of objectification in Sweden. Seven semi-structured interviews were performed and analyzed through thematic analysis. The result ensued in three themes: Objectification – how, where, by whom?, To be an object and Resistance. The study’s result showed that the participants’ experiences have occurred as a consequence of patriarchal societal structures, combined with stereotypical conceptions and prejudice about black women. The most common form of objectification was having one’s appearance scrutinized and valuated through looks, comments or physical touches of those physical attributes which are stereotypical features of black women. Participants expressed that their experiences have, among other things, resulted in increased watchfulness, bodily consciousness and affected and changed relations. Lastly, the participants described strategies applied to handle the strain caused by objectification. The study emphasizes the importance of increased societal knowledge in regards of which factors enable the objectification of black women.

I wish someone had just come and grabbed me by the hand and said "this is very hard, we will help you"- An interview study on psychologists' notions of patient suicide

Bengtsson, Emma January 2020 (has links)
Psychologists are one of the professions that are at a higher risk of losing a patient to suicide. Despite this, there is a lack of Swedish studies focusing on psychologists and their encounter with suicidal patients. Therefore, the present study aimed to increase knowledge and understanding for the notions that psychologists have regarding patient suicide and their opinions about how it is being talked about. Seven semi-structured interviews were conducted with psychologists who themselves had not lost a patient to suicide. The interviews were analysed through a thematic analysis which resulted in four themes: Between sense and sensibility, Two sides of the same coin, Alone is not strong and The individual behind the statistics. The findings showed that psychologists and the organizations (universities and workplaces) they were or had been a part of, were handling and talking about suicidality in different ways. The approach these different actors had to patient suicide was based on either sense, sensibility, or both. Working with suicidal patients is characterized by unpredictability thus highlighting that colleagues make up an important source of support. Furthermore, results showed that both individual psychologists and the society at large have a desire to humanize the suicidal patient. Finally, psychologists' encounter with suicidality seems to be an under-prioritized area, which is prominent in both research, education and in workplaces.

Chefers upplevelser av verksamma faktorer i den arbetslivsinriktade rehabiliteringsförsäkringen ”ComeBack med Samtalsstöd” : – En tematisk analys / The managers’ experience of important factors in the work-oriented rehabilitation insurance “ComeBack with Counseling Support” : – A thematic analysis

Dunder, Tove, Dunder, Patrik January 2020 (has links)
Nyckelord: arbetslivsinriktad rehabilitering, chefers upplevelser, sjukskrivning, psykisk ohälsa, tematisk analys / Abstract Work-oriented rehabilitation is a quite unexplored field of research, even though the sickness absence rate for employees in Sweden is following an upward trend. There have not been many studies examining the subject from the perspective of managers, which is the reason this study was conducted. The purpose of the study was to investigate the experience of important factors in the work-oriented rehabilitation insurance “ComeBack with Counseling Support”, linked to sustainable health and increased/remaining work capacity. The participants were managers who have had one or more employees that have used the insurance due to mental health issues. Data was collected through seven semi-structured telephone interviews, after which it was analyzed using a thematic analysis. Using the thematic analysis, the following themes were constructed: (1) The significance of time, (2) To be taken seriously, (3) Meeting the needs of every individual and (4) The significance of a third party. The results indicate that the insurance consist of several important factors, which are consistent with earlier findings in the field. Despite the limitations, the contributions and implications of the study are noteworthy, for example, regarding the design of a rehabilitation process.   Keywords: work-oriented rehabilitation, the experience of managers, sick leave, mental illness, thematic analysis

Mental Illness in the Workplace: Understanding How Managers Respond to their Employees Living with a Mental Illness

Khokha, Ridhi 26 March 2021 (has links)
This present research explores the following research question: How do managers respond to employees who are living with a mental illness? In answering this research question, I explore the challenges mental illnesses pose to managers, how managers successfully and unsuccessfully respond to those challenges, and the potential positive outcomes associated with encountering an employee who is living with a mental health condition. I answer my guiding research question through five in-depth semi-structured interviews and by relying on six structured and targeted narrative interviews that had been conducted for a previous research project. All interviews were conducted with managers across a variety of industries who have experience working with at least one employee who has lived with a mental health condition. Based on the themes that emerge in these interviews, I document the challenges managers face. I also identify several ‘facilitators of success’, defined as behaviours or actions that managers believed had some degree of positive impact on helping an employee living with a mental illness. The insights developed through this research will better inform the research community regarding managers’ experiences working with employees with a mental illness, as well help inform organizations regarding how they can better equip their managers in dealing with employee mental illness.

Působení primární rodiny na fázi diferenciace v partnerském vztahu u mladých dospělých / The Influence of the Primary Family on the Phase of Differentiation in Partnership among Young Adults

Švingerová, Adéla January 2020 (has links)
The master's thesis deals with the connections between the experience in the primary family and the differentiation phase of the partnership in the period of young adulthood. In the literature review part, the basic areas of this work are gradually defined - primary family, young adulthood and partnership. When describing the primary family, I focus mainly on the important developmental tasks of the child to successfully manage the transition to adulthood and the formation of a lasting relationship. The chapter about young adulthood describes the characteristics of this phase from different angles. At the end of the theoretical part, I focus on defining the partnership, including the mechanisms of partner selection and description of the phases of the partnership. The empirical part is conceived as a qualitative research, which aims to map the differentiation phase of the partnership of young adults and the activities of the primary family. The main method of collecting data on couples is a semi-structured interview, which is further expanded by questionnaire methods and the technique of mental maps. The information obtained through semi-structured interviews is processed using the method of thematic analysis. The outputs reflect important areas of the primary family and characterize the...

Understanding Privacy Aspects Related to Location Based Services (LBS) in the Småland Tourism Industry

Mofidian, Seyedehrashin January 2020 (has links)
Digital technologies have a substantial impact on the tourism industry by affecting thetraveller's behaviour before, during and at the end of the trip and by transforming thetraditional travellers to the digital travellers and smart tourism. Data lies at the core ofall smart tourism activities and received considerable attention in the context of tourists'privacy concerns, precisely, location-based service (LBS). LBS is an example of smarttechnology to enhance travellers' experience and to provide significant benefits to users.Although, LBS become popular among tourists due to high information availability, easeof use, and cheapness, lack of location information protection make the users vulnerable. The latter is a great concern for users when they unintentionally allow the LBS providersto collect all information related to their location. Therefore, this study was conductedby focusing on the general concept of privacy to determine the issues related to the LBSusing in Småland tourism industry. The tourists' perceptions and understanding ofprivacy while using LBC were considered as a general concept of privacy. The study was performed through qualitative research by collecting data from thestructured-interview based on open-ended questions. The qualitative research presentedin this study was based on different viewpoints of interviewees. Thematic analysis wasused to obtain a comprehensive understanding of interviewees' privacy concerns to useLBS. The result indicated four major themes, such as personal information, privacybreach, hesitancy/conditionally and hedonic, that impact differently on tourists' intentionto use LBS. Furthermore, the personality of people, their perceptions and demands couldenhance their privacy concerns for using LBS. These concerns, however, might besuspended when the benefits of gaining information from LBS is considerable. Someother factors, such as the ease of use, user-friendly design, pleasant impression, alongwith providing useful information in the tourism destination, were also considered asessential for LBS adoption among tourists.

Mob Programming and its impact on the developer's well-being and individual performance

Björklund, Philip, Fridebo, Jacob January 2020 (has links)
Mob Programming has become increasingly used in today's software development teams due to its new and innovative work approach. Mob Programming is a collaborative work method that was first introduced in 2002 and was described as a team consisting of two or more developers working together in the same space, at the same time, on the same issue and at the same computer. The Driver and Navigator roles are often used in conjunction with the work method to enable a dynamic work structure. The previous research carried out regarding Mob Programming has focused on its general structure, benefits, and risks when using it. Previous research has also investigated how the work method is being used in different software development teams. A lot of previous research has been studying the subject in a general manner which fails to bring up the individual in relation to the work method. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of using Mob Programming on a daily or occasional basis regarding employee well-being and individual performance. The study also intended to investigate differences between the daily and occasional users of Mob Programming. A qualitative method with semi-structured interviews and observations was applied for its ability to extract in-depth and valuable information. The participants chosen for this study derived from four different development teams who worked at Fortnox in Växjö where one of four teams used Mob Programming on a daily basis. A thematic analysis was used to organize and create a structure regarding the information from the interviews. Three themes with specific sub-codes were created using the thematic analysis: Learning, Team dynamics, Individual dynamics, which derived from the interview questionnaire. The study found that the majority of the informants were impacted in a positive way regarding well-being when using Mob Programming. Reduced individual work pressure and stress were two of the prominent factors that contributed to this. However, some individuals felt negative about the work method. This was often due to the feeling of being constantly watched or not being comfortable with the teambased structure of Mob Programming. The most noticeable findings regarding individual performance were positive in relation to knowledge sharing and problemsolving due to the "one-piece flow” that helped the teams streamline their work process from start to finish. The study found that the use of the Driver and Navigator roles was the most pronounced differentiation between the daily and occasional users of Mob Programming. The findings pointed towards a more structured and proper use of the roles when observing the daily users in comparison to the occasional users.

To Engage or Not to Engage: The Case of an Emerging Innovation Ecosystem in Sweden

Esmaeilzadeh, Alireza, Blanco Rojas, Harvey January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to explore the engagement in an innovation ecosystem for knowledge co-creation. It aims at exploring the various aspects of ecosystems, innovation, and knowledge which can drive or hinder actors to engage in collaboration in an innovation ecosystem. A single case study was selected as a research strategy (The OSMaaS project), as it provided us the opportunity to analyze an innovation ecosystem with specific characteristics that few has considered before. Semi-structured interview was used as data collectiontechnique since this interview method offered us the required flexibility to explore in depth theindividual experiences lived during the process of evaluating whether to engage or not to the OSMaaS project. Consequently, a hybrid approach of thematic analysis was selected as methodfor data analysis as it allowed us to interact with the interviewees or the empirical world, theconcepts regarding innovation and ecosystems or theory, and the OSMaaS project or the case study. The findings show that aspects of ecosystems, innovation and Knowledge co-creation aspects such as co-opetition, ecosystem governance and structure, proximity, relative advantage, compatibility, complexity, trialability, observability, competitive advantage, and product development contain factors driving and hindering actors’ engagement in aninnovation ecosystem. These factors are explained within this study and show what have droveand hindered actors to engage in the OSMaaS project.

Hand i hand eller armbåge mot armbåge genom covid-19 : En kvalitativ intervjustudie om hur personal på särskilt boende för äldre upplevt arbetet under covid-19-pandemin / Hand in hand or elbow to elbow through covid-19 : A qualitative interview study on how staff in special housing for the elderly experienced the work during the covid-19-pandemic

Berg Ljungdahl, Harald January 2022 (has links)
The Covid-19 pandemic has had a major impact on Swedish society and Swedish healthcare. There are several foreign studies that examine the experience of working in nursing homes during the covid-19 pandemic, but there is no Swedish study in the area yet. The purpose of this study was to, based on a Swedish context, gain an increased understanding of the staff's experience of working in nursing homes for the elderly during the covid-19 pandemic. Data was collected through semi- structured interviews with staff at nursing homes in southern Sweden. Data was then analyzed through inductive thematic analysis. Which resulted in five themes: Difficulty with protective equipment, Fear of infection, Doing one's best in a difficult situation, Increased workload became accustomed and Criticized and praised communication. The result gives a picture of the experience that the staff experienced. Which was that the staff experienced a sense of doing their best despite new challenges in the workspace. In this way, decision makers can create an understanding of how the work environment needs to be adapted to the staff's needs in the future.

Professional Education and Practice: Ottawa Police Service Officer and Educator Perceptions of Use of Force Education and Experiences

Jubril, Annette 12 May 2022 (has links)
In the last 20 years, the number of incidents involving police use of force (UOF) has nearly doubled in Canada (Marcoux & Nicholson, 2018). There have been at least 460 documented fatal police encounters across Canada between the years 2000 and 2017 and at least 1,860 police UOF investigations specifically in Ontario (Dunn, 2018; Ontario Human Rights Commission, 2018). According to a 2019 annual report by Ottawa Police Service (OPS, 2019), a municipal police service in Ontario, between the years 2018 and 2019, OPS reported a 21% decrease (from 767 to 607) of applications of force among officers and a 15% increase (from 529 to 609) of UOF reports. Although the latter data is relevant to Ottawa, to better understand and potentially minimize negative police-civilian encounters, both specifically and on a larger scale, this Canadian-focused study centers on policing as well as the context at OPS and explores the extent to which professional education (PE) influences professional practice (PP). It does so by reviewing OPS’s UOF training and gathering perspectives from patrol officers and UOF educators. Using a qualitative instrumental case study (QICS) research design, the study analyzes the UOF training materials that OPS used to certify and recertify officers between the years 2010 and 2021. It also incorporates semi-structured interviews with officers and educators to gather insights on how participants define UOF, their perspectives on their pre-service and in-service training, as well as how they relate their PE to their police-civilian encounters, particularly when they used or did not use force. A document analysis of the data revealed that OPS’s UOF training uses both traditional as well as progressive and collaborative approaches to educate and relate to officers. Such approaches also aim to promote appropriate communication and de-escalation skills. At the same time, the learning objectives found in the lesson plans lack the detail needed to signify that officers have achieved the intended goal of the training. Among the important themes that emerged from the interviews were 1) the differences in priorities, between the officers and educators, concerning UOF training, 2) the value that officers place on their instructors’ experiences, 3) the challenges that educators face while adhering to provincial expectations, and 4) the integral role that training and life experiences play during police-civilian encounters. The relevance of social media was another significant theme that emerged within the study, particularly considering the participants’ views on the current social climate of policing (i.e., how the public perceives the police as well as the contentious debate about defunding the police). With limited research on police perspectives and issues specific to policing in Canada, the present study, by virtue of access to OPS’s training materials, patrol officers and UOF instructors, seeks to initiate rich and meaningful discussions about PE and PP. It also aims to encourage reflection among educators, policy-makers and society so as to address and deepen our understanding of issues related to education.
