Erfarenhetsåterföring inom Peab Sverige AB i Umeå / Experience feedback within Peab Sverige AB in Umeå

För att byggindustrins processer ska kunna utvecklas i den takt som den växer och i den takt som investeringsviljan växer, så behöver erfarenheter spridas vidare till andra. Som företag så bör en systematisk erfarenhetsåterföring användas för att utvecklas och kunna öka lönsamheten hos företaget. Det ska beaktas i detta projekt.   Projektets syfte är att visa Peab Sverige AB vilka brister koncernen har i sitt arbete med erfarenhetsåterföring för att sedan i framtiden kunna utvecklas till att bli ett mer framgångsrikt företag.   Projektet resulterade i en beskrivning av hur erfarenhetsåterföringen bedrevs på Peab Sverige AB i Umeå, och även på andra företag inom byggbranschen, där de sprider erfarenheter via möten och även en del via den databas som de använder. Andra medarbetare tas även till hjälp. På Peab Sverige AB i Umeå anses det att det är viktigt att arbeta med erfarenhetsåterföring för att innehav av kunskap värdesätts högt. Bristerna som Peab Sverige AB i Umeå har inom arbetet med erfarenhetsåterföring är att det är svårt att komma åt erfarenheter på ett smidigt sätt, ledningen anses oengagerad inom ämnet, det finns prestige i att inte sprida dåliga erfarenheter på företaget, protokoll från projekt är svårt att hitta och att det finns för lite tid att göra analyser för olika projekt. I framtiden vill de anställda att erfarenheter tas till vara bättre efter projekt med hjälp av en specifik databas. För att Peab Sverige AB i Umeå ska få en bättre erfarenhetsåterföring efterfrågas studiebesök till liknande projekt, bättre rutiner för att ta emot nyanställda, skapa ett större engagemang för erfarenhetsåterföring och fler uppföljande möten.   Drivet och engagemanget inom arbetet med erfarenhetsåterföring måste bli bättre inom Peab Sverige AB i Umeå. Detta kommer att leda till att fler får ta del av tidigare erfarenheter och att företaget kommer att utvecklas. Bättre utförda processer, mindre arbetsbelastning, bättre arbetsmiljö och mer pengar till företaget kommer vara vinningen i detta. Ledningen kommer att behöva avsätta mer tid och fokus för att de förslagsåtgärderna som beskrivs ska kunna utföras på rätt sätt. / If the construction industry's processes should evolve as much as it grows and as the investment will grow, they need to spread knowledge to others. In a company, systematic experience feedback should work as a method to develop and increase profitability of the company. It is an important part in this project. The purpose of the project is to support Peab Sverige AB to be able to find what deficiencies the company has in its work with experience feedback in order to become a more successful company in the future.   The project resulted in an explanation of how Peab Sverige AB in Umeå worked with experience feedback, and on other companies in the construction industry, where they spread experiences through meetings and some via a database they use. They also get help from other employees. Peab Sverige AB in Umeå value knowledge highly and therefor it is very important to work with experience feedback inside the company. The shortcomings that Peab Sverige AB in Umeå has in the field of experience retrieval is that it is not easy to access experience, the management is found unattended in the subject, there is prestige in not spreading bad experiences at the company, protocols from projects is difficult to access and there is too little time for analysis between different projects. In the future, employees want the experience to improve after projects, where a specific database can help. Study visits to similar projects, better getting new employees, creating greater commitment to experience feedback and more meetings, are going to help Peab Sverige AB in Umeå in their work with experience feedback.   A better drive and commitment to experience feedback within Peab Sverige AB in Umeå. This will lead to more people getting acquainted with earlier experiences, which is developing the company. Better processes, less workload, better work environment and more money for the company will be the gain in this. The company´s management will need to allocate more time and focus to the correct implementation of the proposed measures.

Markvärmesystem på Norra Ön i Umeå : En energi- och kostnadsberäkning / Heated pavement system on Norra Ön in Umeå : An energy and cost calculation

På Norra Ön i Umeå planeras det för en ny stadsdel. Umeå kommun satsar på utveckling av kollektivtrafikstråk samtidigt som detaljplanen för Norra Ön har rörelserikedom som utgångspunkt. Nya broar och vägar kommer att byggas med fokus på att uppmuntra hållbart resande. Detta arbete syftade till att undersöka möjligheten till användandet av markvärme på gång- och cykelbanor på Norra Ön. Arbetets målsättning var att ta reda på vad systemets årliga energianvändning och driftkostnad skulle kunna bli samt bedöma om markvärme bör anläggas. Information om planeringen kring utbyggnaden av Norra Ön inkluderades i arbetet för att ge en övergripande bild av situationen för en eventuell implementering av markvärme. I arbetet beskrivs markvärmesystemets uppbyggnad och även teori för beräkning av markvärme. Markvärmens energibehov är till stor del väderberoende. Observationsdata för åren 2018–2020 från väderstationer i Umeå har sammanställts och legat till grund för beräkningarna av energianvändning och driftkostnad.   Stora variationer i energianvändning och driftkostnad uppstod mellan åren på grund av det varierande vädret. Ett markvärmesystem på Norra Ön hade med utgångspunkt i åren 2018–2020 medfört en årlig energianvändning på 4,9–7,2 GWh med en årlig driftkostnad på 4,2–5,4 Mkr. Energisystemet skulle vara det största i Umeå och en stor del av systemet skulle vara anlagt på broar vilket medför hög energianvändning och kostnad. Den största energianvändningen och kostnaden uppstod dock för cykelstråken eftersom den markanlagda delen av markvärmesystemet tar upp en större yta än den broanlagda delen av systemet. Effekterna av ett markvärmesystem ligger i linje med de mål som finns för Norra Ön vilket talar för att en anläggning av ett markvärmesystem i någon form bör övervägas. / A new housing district is planned on Norra Ön in Umeå. The municipality of Umeå is investing in the development of public transport while the planning of Norra Ön is based on creating conditions which contributes to an active lifestyle. New bridges and roads will be built to encourage sustainable traveling.  The purpose of this work was to investigate the possibility of using a heated pavement system for pedestrian and bicycle lanes on Norra Ön. The aim of this work was to find out what the system’s annual energy usage and annual operating costs could be and also assess whether a heated pavement system should be installed or not. Information about the planning of Norra Ön is included in this thesis to provide an overall view of the situation for a possible implementation of a heated pavement system. In this thesis, the structure of the heated pavement system and also the theory for calculating heat fluxes are described. The systems required heat flux is largely weather dependant. Observation data for the years 2018–2020 from weather stations in Umeå has been compiled and has been the basis for calculation of energy usage and operating costs. There was a big difference in energy usage and operating costs between the years due to the varying weather. A heated pavement system on Norra Ön could, based on the years 2018–2020, result in an annual energy usage of 4,9–7,2 GWh with an annual operating cost of 4,2–5,4 MSEK. The energy system would be the largest in Umeå and a large part of the system would be placed on bridges which causes high energy usage and cost. However, the largest energy usage and cost was found to be for the cycle paths because the ground-based part of the heated pavement system occupies a larger area than the bridge-based part of the system. The effects of a heated pavement system are in line with the goals that exists for Norra Ön, which suggests that usage of a heated pavement system in some form should be considered.

Today, the city of Umeå is missing a space for both social meetings and culture, and as we become more and more disconnected from social interactions, a new space for this is proposed. To make this project flourish both lighting conditions and the programmatic layout have been extensively studied. The lighting conditions are mainly taken from skylights to ensure consistent lighting throughout and as well incorporate carefully placed windows to bring experiential qualities that in turn elevate the atmosphere. The proposed building incorporates three different programs. A library, a music scene and cinemas. These programs take on a fluid layout, where the library, divided into three sections, is located either underneath or on an undulating landscape. Here a focus has been laid on the usage of permeable materials, such as textiles, to ensure and encourage social interactions. Then the cinemas and the music scene appear to float above that, which also brings social qualities, as they are favourable to remain seated in after the end of the show.

Media affects our views of the world and plays a large part in creation and dissemination of social representations. Through media’s increasing importance, people and organizations need to work harder to stand out among the large amounts of brands that exists today.In 2013, Umeå Energi launched a commercial concept about Dolf and Järven, two characters living in Lill-Grobban, a fictional village outside of Umeå. The aim of this qualitative study is to examine how Umeå Energi uses stereotypes in the commercial concept Dolf and Järven and how this affects the respondents, and in the long run the stereotypification of norrlandians. To achieve this aim the following theories have been applied: stereotypes, identity and storytelling. The study was conducted through three focus group interviews with students, professionals and senior citizens, plus one informant interview with a marketer at Umeå Energi.The results and analysis of the study shows that students and professionals thinks the commercials are entertaining, while senior citizens are of a negative opinion; they believe it’s an outrageous and parodic image of locals represented in the commercials. The study also shows that the dialect of the northern Sweden is a large part in creating the stereotypical local in northern Sweden. Professionals and students have a positive image of Umeå Energi after watching the commercials while senior citizens are skeptical. Overall, the study's results show large differences in how the commercials about Dolf and Järven is being received by the respondents. Students and professionals think that the commercials are entertaining, while senior citizens disagree. They are of the opinion that the commercials show an exaggerated and negative image of norrlandians. / Medierna påverkar vår världsbild och spelar en stor roll för utformningen och spridningen av sociala representationer. I och med mediernas allt större plats i våra liv ökar behovet hos både människor och organisationer att sticka ut för att synliggöra sig i bruset av alla varumärken som finns.Umeå Energi lanserade 2013 ett reklamkoncept med karaktärerna Dolf och Järven som bor i Lill-Grobban, en fiktiv ort någonstans utanför Umeå. Syftet med denna kvalitativa studie är att undersöka hur Umeå Energi använder sig av en stereotyp bild av norrlänningar i sitt reklamkoncept Dolf och Järven och hur detta påverkar mottagarna, samt i förlängningen även bilden av den stereotypa norrlänningen. Teorierna som används är stereotyper, identitet och storytelling. Av studien framgår även att den norrländska dialekten är en stor del i skapandet av den stereotypa norrlänningen. Yrkesverksamma och studenter har en positiv inställning till Umeå Energi efter att ha sett reklamfilmerna medan pensionärerna är skeptiska. Överlag visar studiens resultat stora skillnader i hur reklamfilmerna om Dolf och Järven mottas bland äldre och yngre personer. Studenter och yrkesverksamma anser att reklamfilmerna är underhållande, något som inte pensionärerna håller med om då de tycker att reklamfilmerna förmedlar en överdriven och negativ bild av norrlänningen.

The point of this study is to understand how Umeå university’s curriculum for the subject of history evolved in the time period 1970 to 2015. Therefore, this study will analyze Umeå university’s curriculum for the course History AB 1, that is included in the history teacher training education. Furthermore, this study will take this analyzation of the curriculum and compare it to the Swedish high school curriculum. This is to better understand the evolution of the education program for teachers, but also to study the symbiotic relationship between schools and universities. Moreover, this assignment will be using Stina Hallsén’s description of policy analyzes to examine the valuation and norms from Umeå’s curriculum, and then take the analyzation further by comparing it to the Swedish high school curriculum. It will thereafter be analyzed with Gert Biesta’s three concepts, Qualification, Socialization and subjectification. Biesta’s concepts will help to measure how good the education at the teacher education program in Umeå is. The results of the study can shortly be described that there’s a long line of changes happening at the teacher education program at Umeå university and the subject of history in the time period 1970 to 2015. The changes range from small differences like the curriculum changing pace, to big changes like entire course moments getting removed and new ones getting added. In addition, the curriculum from Umeå university gets compared to the Swedish high school curriculum. This comparison alongside the study’s framing of question serves to give better insight into how the teachers education program has changed and evolved during the time period. Lastly the results of this study show that yes, there is a symbiotic relationship between Umeå university’s education for teachers and the Swedish high school curriculum. Furthermore, the students attending the teacher training education are taught that becoming a teacher is a lifelong mission to evolve and understand the changes happening in the schools.

Tillväxtens baksida : En studie om hur Umeå kommun behandlar boendesegregation för att uppnå en hållbar urban utveckling

This study aims to examine the extent of residential segregation in Umeå by describing differences in socioeconomic structure between urban districts. Furthermore, the study also aims to analyse how Umeå municipality is considering residential segregation in their plans for urban development and how this can affect the extent of the segregation. In order to present the socioeconomic differences between the urban districts in Umeå statistics showing income, education and employment was used. Information about the municipal priorities regarding the development of the urban environment was gathered by reading and analysing municipal documents that is used to guide physical planning in the city. The results of the study show that there are differences in the socioeconomic structure of Umeås urban districts. These differences show that residential segregation is an occurring phenomenon in Umeå since residents with different characteristics are living separated from each other. Results gathered by studying and analysing the municipal documents show that Umeå municipality prioritises sustainable growth and want to condensate the city in order to achieve a mixed supply of housing in attractive locations with different sizes, prices, and forms of tenure. Thus, the results imply that Umeå municipality has a good chance of reducing the residential segregation of the urban districts in the future.

Så bygger man en destination : En studie om möjligheter och utmaningar för samarbete mellan Umeå och Bjurholms kommun

Increased travel has led to greater competition between destinations. Therefore, actors in the tourism industry are constantly seeking new ways to remain competitive, in which collaborations have often been viewed as a solution. This study will focus on the collaboration in tourism issues in the Umeå region, Sweden. The aim of this study is to examine, from a producer perspective, opportunities and challenges for collaboration between different actors in the municipality of Umeå and Bjurholm. The study also examines whether and how Bjurholm municipality can be a shadow destination to Umeå. To do this, interviews were conducted with various actors in the municipality of Umeå and Bjurholm. The results show that the differences between the municipalities are both seen as a great opportunity but also a major challenge for the collaboration. Furthermore, the study found that Bjurholm shows some characteristics of being a shadow destination to Umeå.

Umeå är en av de städer i Sverige som växer snabbast och innerstaden behöver förtätas för att lyckas tillgodose framtidens behov av bostäder. Att förtäta medför ett ansvar att ta hänsyn till stadens invånare och existerande byggnader. Det är framförallt unga vuxna som drabbas av bostadsbristen. Undersökningar har visat att många av de unga vuxna skulle vilja bo tillsammans med andra istället för att bo själva. Projektet förtätar varsamt en centralt placerad tomt i staden genom att dels bygga bostäder på underutnyttjad mark och dels genom att bygga på en redan existerande byggnad. Däremellan skapas samtidigt en innergård som delvis är publik. Projektet undersöker också ingående material och tektoniska aspekter genom att utveckla en keramisk fasad i hög detaljnivå. Undersökningen av det keramiska materialet bedrivs genom studieresor, tillverkning och modellering i fullskala. Projektet förser tomten I Umeå med ett genomtänkt förslag på förtätning av staden genom att kombinera undersökningar i både stor och liten skala. / The fast growing city of Umeå needs to densify its inner city as a strategy to cope with its current and future housing situation. Densifying comes with a responsibility to care both for the existing inhabitants’ needs and the city’s built structures. It is largely young adults who are affected from the housing shortage. They often want to share their apartment with others, rather than living alone. The project deals with careful densification of a centrally located site by creating new structures on underused space, by adding to the already built and by creating a public space in-between. Furthermore, the project investigates the building’s material and tectonical aspects by developing a ceramic façade in detail. The investigation of the ceramic material is carried out through study trips, fabrication and modelling in full scale. The project provides the site in Umeå with an accurate solution for densified housing combining both large and small scale investigation.

Handeln över Kvarken : En studie av sjöhandelsförbindelserna mellan Vasa stad och Västerbotten under perioden 1809-1830

AbstractThis thesis examines the sea trade between the city of Vasa in Österbotten and the county of Västerbotten in Sweden during the period 1809-1830 and aims to determine how the division of Sweden into two countries in 1809 affected the trade. In order to systematically treat data, a theoretical concept of quantitative network analysis is applied. The primary source material consists of accounts from the custom house in Vasa.The results show that the sea trade had resumed within a year after the Treaty of Fredrikshamn in 1809. The sea trade over Kvarken was predominated by agents from Västerbotten, particularly from Umeå. In 1810, the first boat departed from Umeå to Vasa, a trend which would come to accelerate up to a culmination in 1816 as regards the number of boats and the quantity of goods. The sea trade later experienced a successive decline between 1817 and 1830, which marks the end of the studied period. The agents which travelled over Kvarken were initially peasants, albeit over time these were successively replaced by skippers and other sea-faring professionals. Concerning shipped goods, the study also concludes that the main products shipped from Västerbotten to Vasa were fish and fabrics. Conversely, the main products shipped from Vasa to Västerbotten were cattle and grains.Even though the trade had importance for the Vasa region in terms of supplying important staple goods, the trade with Västerbotten represented just a small percentage of the total goods shipped through Vasa port. The trades swift recovery after the division is partly attributed to the good relations between Sweden and Russia after the Treaty of Fredrikshamn (1809); but also the favorable tariff policy between the two countries. Another contributing factor to the increase in trade between Vasa and Västerbotten at the time may have been the limitation of trade with continental Europe as a result of the ongoing Napoleonic Wars. Studenters inverkan på besöksnäringen : En kvantitativ studie om hur studenterna vid Umeå universitet påverkar turismen i Umeå ur ett VFR perspektiv

The visiting friends and relatives segment has not been given much study, because the segment has been perceived as small and with no positive economic impact on destinations. This is because of the belief that VFR travelers sleep and eat at their friends’ and relatives’ houses. Lately, the definition of VFR travelers has been changing due to more studies in the area. The results of these studies have shown that the size of the segment has been underestimated, as has the economic impact the segment has on a destination. This thesis is a complement to Bischoff and Koenig-Lewis study ”VFR Tourism: the Importance of University Students as Hosts”. The purpose of this thesis is to examine how students at Umeå university affect the tourism industry in Umeå. The thesis aims to study the frequency of visits made by the students’ friends and relatives, seasonal distribution of the visits, visitor motives, and economic factors linked to these visits. The study is based on a questionnaire survey with closed-ended questions. The study was conducted through descriptive statistical analysis of the questionnaire. Results of the study indicates that the main reason for friends and relatives to visit students in Umeå is to be with the student in question. Most of the VFR travelers stay at their host’s place, with only a few percent using commercial accommodation. Instead VFR travelers have more economic impact on restaurants, shopping and nightlife.
