Workplace Violence Prevention Training: An Analysis of Employees' Attitudes

Adriansen, David J. 05 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to determine employees' attitudes and perceptions toward the effectiveness of workplace violence prevention training within a U.S. Government service agency with 50 offices located in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Chapter 1 presents an overview of the phenomenon of workplace violence, the movement toward prevention programs and policies and the implementation of prescreening processes during hiring and violence prevention training. Chapter 2 contains a thorough review of pertinent literature related to violence prevention training and the impact of occupational violence on organizations. This topic was worthy of research in an effort to make a significant contribution to training literature involving organizational effectiveness due to the limited amount of research literature covering the area of corporate violence prevention training and its effect on modifying attitudes and behaviors of its customers. The primary methodology involved the assessment of 1000 employees concerning their attitudes and perceptions toward the effectiveness of workplace violence prevention training. The research population were administered a 62 item online assessment with responses being measured, assessed, and compared. Significant differences were found calling for the rejection of the three study hypotheses. Chapter 4 described the findings of the population surveyed and recommendations were identified in Chapter 5.

The effects of participative safety and support for innovation on group creativity

Murase, Toshio 01 January 2006 (has links)
This study examined the effects of Participative Safety (PS) and Support for Innovation (SI) on team creativity. It has been proposed that PS helps develop teamwork processes where members feel comfortable expressing and exchanging their ideas freely and SI makes a team perceive that creativity is valued. The study hypothesized that groups trained on PS score higher on creativity, feel less anxiety, have more cohesiveness, and have higher satisfaction than groups without PS training. The study also hypothesized that groups in the SI condition score higher on originality than groups in the non-SI condition. These climate conditions were created by providing a 15-minute PS training and a chance for participants to win monetary rewards. Student participants (N=123) were formed into 41 groups to write a proposal to a given problem. The proposals were analyzed by 5 graduate students. Correlational analyses revealed significant relationships between participative safety, cohesiveness, and satisfaction. However, results indicated the manipulations were ineffective and did not support all the hypotheses.

Modifikace měřicího pracoviště pro měření solárních článků / Modification of measurement workplace for solar cells

Roček, Radovan January 2009 (has links)
The problems of solar cells are described in general in theoretic part of the master’s thesis. In particular there is described structure of solar cells, procedure of production of solar cells, kinds of defects that can occur in solar cells and diagnostic methods of detection of this defects. The solar simulator, electroluminescence method, detection of defects during microplasma shining, LBIV and LBIC method belongs to category of diagnostic methods. The main focusing is on diagnostic method of LBIC (Light Beam Inducted Current). The workplace which exploits this method is used in laboratory in Department of Electrotechnology on University of Technology Brno. This method is very exact and it reveals most of defects in solar cell but the problem is the slow speed of testing. In practical part of the master’s thesis the main solved problem is the proposition and realization of modified workplace of LBIC that would work on more modern level, it means using performer PC for service program and Agilent 34410A the modern measuring device. The speed up of the testing time is the goal of modernization in existing accuracy of finding. The modify workplace is realized and compared with the existing workplace subsequently.

Green, Wictor, Edström, Oskar January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine managers' perceived influence on informal learningwithin their work team in a digitalized work environment. The study uses a qualitative methodwith the empirical material gathered using interviews. The data was, after the interviews, interpreted using a hermeneutic orientation. The study's informants are department managers in knowledge intensive workplaces from five different organizations. The results have been interpreted with the help of Illeris (2004) model of workplace learning. After analyzing theempirical data, four themes can be identified: resources, communication, culture and relationship oriented leadership. The result indicates that the informants have a good understanding of what it takes, both from the organization and from their perspectives as managers to enable informal learning. Because of the ever-changing digital work-environment,where remote work is frequent, a fully functioning communication for ideal learning is missing according to the informant's liking. Furthermore the digitized work environment is still in itscrate and that new technical solutions to enable informal learning are being developed continuously in all of the informants organizations. It is harder to establish cohesiveness and organizational culture with work being remote, because there is, for example lack, of everyday conversations. Instead, focus lies on purpose driven conversations and meetings and not at all the spontaneous meetings that happen when people are on site physically. The conclusion is thus that the digital tools are very much established. There is constant development to integrate and digitize training to simplify the informal learning, even if remote work occurs. Organizations and work content is in a transformational phase and has been put to the test during the covid-19 pandemic. What we can identify is that remote work is not changing the way we work all that much. Instead, it is dissolving the physical workplace. The result of these changes is the lack of cohesiveness and the everyday conversations which are fundamental and paramount to establish informal learning.

Arbetsplatsens dynamiska karaktär : medarbetares perspektiv på attraktiva, hållbara och lärande arbetsplatser / The workplace dynamic character : employees' perspectiveson attractive, sustainable and learning workplaces

Hedin, Madeleine, Norman, Hanna, Olsson, Emelie January 2020 (has links)
Complexity and flexibility are two factors that characterize today's labor market; old established patterns are replaced with new and ever-changing forms of organization and employment. Work is an essential part of the individual's existence that consists of income security as well as social affiliation and sense of identity. Just as changes challenge the security of organizations and employees, opportunities for new approaches and structural measures are also created. In order to deal with these conditions, it is important to identify the areas that lay the groundwork and promote the sustainability of the workplace. The aim of the study was to analyze and describe employees' experiences of learning within the organization, as well as identify factors that create a sustainable and attractive workplace based on a health promotion approach. The theoretical frame consists of the theories; Senge's five disciplines, Empowerment and WHO- model Healthy Workplace. The study is based on a hermeneutic and abductive approach. The empirical data was collected through eight semi-structured interviews and analyzed through a qualitative content analysis that resulted in two main categories and six subcategories. The result showed that health-promoting factors in form of a strong co-workership that consists of a safe and stable work environment where good companionship strengthens both the internal and external quality. Competence development takes place formally as informally, where workplace learning that occurs between employees is highlighted as most prominent. It also requires an open dialogue, structure and a positive working climate. Finally, the study's findings demonstrate that the co-workership is the core of developing strong attraction attributes and is crucial to what keeps employees in the workplace. Furthermore, it was found that the leadership provides the conditions for employees to work together in a sustainable and pleasant working climate, focusing on the employees' well-being and job satisfaction.

Rätt från början.....blir bättre än slumpen : Checklista för arbetsplatsens utformning inom verkstadsindustrin / Right from start.....gets better than random : checklist for workplace design in the engineering industry

Källgren, Andreas, Hedberg, Martin January 2015 (has links)
Two companies in the manufacturing industry wishes to develop a supporting document to use in project work where there today is generally focused on performance and cost, often within limited and tight deadlines. Work environment as a factor to be considered early in the projects are easily forgotten and are sometimes perceived as a bit abstract and difficult to grasp by the project manager and other members of the project team. The aim of the degree project is to fill the gap between the theory and practical reality in the design of new or changed workplaces in the manufacturing industry. The goal of this thesis is to develop an informative checklist that will be obvious to use in the installation and renovation projects. In the longer term, the goal is to create a natural collaboration between the project and production organizations and also make the company health service more involved in these projects. The checklists are designed to bring the project team to understand the problem if we do not take care of working environmental issues. For each issue literature was reviewed, and a deeper knowledge for each factor was collected. Experiences from previous projects and common problems in existing facilities have also been taken care of. The balancing of these experiences and knowledge led to a number of questions with associated advice. A survey showed that there is a great interest for this kind of advisory checklist and the results were largely positive with some concerns about compliance and further development of the documents. The persons, stakeholders, who participated in the development and evaluation of the checklists says that they are a good complement to their documents they are using today. There are good opportunities to implement an advisory checklist today. Awareness is increasing among the staff and few wishes to expose themselves to illness and accidents. Work on the checklists will continue after completion of the degree project in order to ensure compliance, development and sense of ownership. An important aspect for this checklist to be kept alive and further developed is to implement it in the corporate acquisition process and that compliance will be controlled from there. Keywords: working environment, checklist, advisory, workplace, lean, AFS.

One for all, all for one? A study regarding collegial efficacy as a means to support English teachers in their teaching

Andersson, Emil, Olsson, Jimmy January 2019 (has links)
This study sets out to explore English teachers’ perceptions of aspects concerning theirworkplace and collegial collaborations. At the present time in Sweden, there is a need fornew qualified teachers, and furthermore, a considerable amount of the current teachersemployed are considering resignation. This has resulted in that many unlicensed teachers, who are not properly qualified, have been hired. In some schools, this has causedcompetence development to stagnate, having teachers rely more on getting through theirwork-days rather than to develop the quality of their teaching. Furthermore, reports havesurfaced that reveal heightened stress levels, and workload to be causing more sick leaveand burnout. However, a concept called collective efficacy, have been found to countermany of these issues. By prioritizing collective collaboration and efforts that are wellstructured and supported by the school leadership, personnel have been shown to improvein both efficacy and well-being. This is why we wanted to examine what perceptionsEnglish teachers had of their current workplace situation, communication, opportunities forcollegial exchanges, supportive measures and competence development in regard toteaching English. The study was conducted using a mixed methods approach. We gathereddata through a questionnaire with 34 respondents, and through semi-structured interviewswith two English teachers. A majority of the teachers in the study were positive to theperception that they collectively could improve student results. They were also positive tothe benefits of collegial exchanges. However, time is frequently identified as the leadingfactor as to why they can not, under ruling circumstances, incorporate more structuredcollegial exchanges. This implies that schools and school leadership would need todedicate both time and to structure formal and functioning meetings for these collegialexchanges at their schools - should they chose an approach such as this.

Understanding Coping Strategies and Behaviors of Employees Affected by Toxic Leadership

Morris, Jr., Jerry A 01 January 2019 (has links)
Toxic leaders affect nearly half of the U.S. employee base and create environments in which followers, peers, and staff might be less effective due to stress, devaluation, and potential job loss. A multiple case study approach was used to understand what coping strategies employees use to reduce the negative effects of toxic leadership on themselves, other employees, and the overall workplace; and to understand the behaviors that result from these strategies. The purposeful and snowball sample consisted of 29 participants within the United States, ages 30 to 65, who worked within two or more organizations and who either directly experienced a toxic leader or observed someone who did. The theoretical framework was based on betrayal trauma theory, conservation of resources theory, and the cognitive theory of trauma. Research questions focused on how affected employees coped during and after the toxic event and any coping differences between sample groups. Data were collected via one-on-one telephone interviews. Data were analyzed via data organization, acquaintance, classification, coding, and interpretation. The major themes that emerged were emotional reaction, coping strategies used, effects at work and home, and resulting health issues for both person and family. Seeking resource help was identified as the most effective coping strategy when dealing with a toxic leader. Toxic leadership can have lasting negative effects on both organizations and employees that can extend beyond the workplace. Organizations have an organizational and social responsibility to address toxic leader behaviors and provide resources to employees to counteract toxic leadership to create a more positive work environment where employees can find work rewarding and fulfilling.
