Creative Writing Joins Rhetoric and the Public Arts: A Comparative Study of Craft, Workshop, and Practice Beyond English Studies

Ristow, Ben W. January 2012 (has links)
Creative Writing Joins Rhetoric and the Public Arts: A Comparative Study of Craft, Workshop, and Practice beyond English Studies analyzes the field of creative writing through the lenses of classical rhetorical scholarship, aesthetic theory, and craft criticism in the arts. Through a historical analysis of techne (craft or method) and telos (end or final cause) in the work of Aristotle and Plato, I argue that what we call "craft" often suffers from a limiting definition that privileges formal and material constraints over the more vital concerns of knowledge and consciousness reflected in artistic education. Craft knowledge is demonstrated through the processes of art-making internalized by the student apprentice. No matter the form or discipline, craft practice embodies the processes and consciousness that make art education possible. The dissertation analyzes concepts of craft as technique while revealing how artistic method illuminates the ends to which art serves. Craft consciousness, a term outlined in this dissertation, is defined as an awareness of artistic method and practice across disciplinary boundaries. If applied by teachers and students of creative writing, this consciousness will redefine writing workshop, curriculum design, programmatic elements, and the mission of creative writing as an academic discipline. By shifting the field toward the craft principles shared with the performing and fine arts, the dissertation uses rhetoric and public arts as lenses for reimagining the mission of creative writing more broadly as a discipline simultaneously engaged with democratic and occultic principles. In proposing an alternative approach to traditional writing workshop by examining author-function, this dissertation also draws from Paulo Freire's term "nuclei of contradiction" in order to argue for a pedagogy that attends to the inherent contradictions that form the foundation of creative writing culture. Freire's "critical consciousness" informs the term "craft consciousness" and the latter term forms the scaffolding in which to reimagine educational principles in creative writing. In order to reimagine craft and workshop practices in traditional and virtual spaces, this dissertation examines how theories, histories, and practices in craft will transform creative writing into a field grounded in artistic practice and intellectual inquiry.

Involverande Platsgestaltning : En studie i ett bostadsområde i Sätra, Gävle

Jensfelt, Per January 2017 (has links)

Bassanové ve sbírce Národní galerie v Praze / Bassanos in the collection of the National Gallery in Prague

Pokorná, Barbora January 2014 (has links)
The presented diploma thesis deals with artworks filed under Bassano's name in National Gallery in Prague. Opening chapters enlarge on those artworks, not to say artworks of Bassano family in area of today's Czech Republic. The life and artistic work of Bassano family is briefly introduced, with focus on Jacopo Bassano as the main personality. Short universal discourses concerning specific issues are taken individually, in relation to particular paintings. The crucial part of the thesis is a catalogue presenting entire collection of Bassano's artworks in National Gallery. The catalogue compounds of several parts: authentic pieces, works from workshop, later copies of artworks, and paintings which don't match Bassanos'author craft. The artworks in catalogue are comprehensively described and put to context with other works.

The use of stories in clinical encounter: A Therapeutical Workshops experience with psychotic children

Sousa, Jéssica de 19 April 2013 (has links)
This paper intends to study the use of stories in clinical encounter with psychotic children. We propose that stories bring us closer to human nature experience; in hearing/reading a story, the hearer/reader is able to recognize a meaning relative to his/her own life. Such a theme emerged through the experience of working in a Therapeutical Workshop of Stories. It was a part of a clinical device called GIRAMUNDO therapeutical workshops and inclusion, hosted by the Ana Maria Poppovics Psychological Clinic in PUC/SP. To attain the aforementioned objective, we studied the storys characteristics, correlating them to the theme of experience, and after associating them with the winnicottian concepts of transitionality and creativity. From Winnicotts theory regarding primitive emotional development, we considered how the tradition and transmission of stories could be related to specificities in child psychosis treatment. This is a qualitative research of psychoanalytical approach. Given the fact that a qualitative research aims to improve the modes of understanding the world of experience, this study was made through the reading of scenes and situations lived in clinical encounters in Therapeutical Workshops taken from a textual record, O livro da oficina de história (The book of the Workshop of Stories). In general, this record has two major time frames. In the first one, the record was a narrative of what took place in the workshop (who was there, what they were doing, etc.) and the story unraveled from there. In the second, the children had a more active role in the narratives construction, creating new stories and experiencing the make-believe world. It seems that experiencing a describedme allowed the appearance of an I-narrator: moment in which the children were, at the same time, characters and creators of characters and, in a way, started playing by making stories. Playing links the network of functions and tasks that we must live through for the development of the feeling of self, and we observed that making stories is also a form of creative playing

This paper presents the research that had as a goal to evaluate the influence of the inclusion of the origami technique at the package design process. The research is based on the analysis of origami's characteristics and his aesthetic analogy with certain forms of packages and, also, on the description and confrontation of eleven different projecting methods. The investigation was outlined by a qualitative study of an experimental nature, on which, four groups - each one composed by three professionals working in the design area - were instigated, at a workshop environment, to appoint a solution to the same briefing document for a projectual development of a package. Two of these groups were observed for control and the other two received the experimental treatment trough a origami workshop. The results point to the mapping of the design process used in workshops and their relationship with the given projectual solution and the use of origami in the process. The study highlights the confirmation that the knowledge of the paper folding technique may create influent alternatives in the package design process and therefore opens indicative to the continuation of this research.

J.-C.-Ve s. ap. J.-C.) / The oil amphora workshops of the Hispalis conventus (Seville, Spain) : characterization and study of a production area in the Roman province of Betic (1st century BC to 5th century AD)

Desbonnets, Quentin 13 December 2018 (has links)
The thesis is devoted to the production of oil amphorae (Dr. 20 Dr. 23) in the conventus of Hispalis (prov. Of Seville) between the first century AD. BC and the fifth century AD. BC The research that has been conducted since the late nineteenth century focused their problems on the corpus of the stamps forgetting to consider the pottery workshops to which they were attached. We are particularly interest to these oil amphorae production centers by providing a comprehensive and descriptive catalog of these workshops thanks to a series of pedestrian and geophysical surveys. The aim will be to understand comprehensively the socio-economic history on trade in oil in the valley of the lower Guadalquivir (prov. Of Seville).
