Germanic Properties in the Left Periphery of Old French: V-to-C-Movement, XP-fronting, Stylistic Fronting and Verb-Initial Clauses

Hansch, Alexandra Y. January 2014 (has links)
The present dissertation is a comparative investigation between the Germanic-like structural phenomena found in the left periphery of Old French (OF) clauses and the syntactic phenomena found in the left periphery of Old High German (OHG). The goal of this thesis is to provide evidence that only a synchronic analysis can explain the presence of Germanic-like structures in OF syntax. The reason for this lies in the similarities between the V2 properties found in OF and OHG. The two languages show V2 properties such as V-to-C movement and XP fronting, but also properties which are not found in Modern V2 languages such as a frequent V1 and V3 word order. The corpus I use consists of four OF texts from the 12th and 13th century which correspond to the late OF period. They are composed in different OF dialects from the northern part of France. The poetic texts chosen for this study are Le voyage de Saint-Brandan and Gormont et Isembart. The prose texts are Le Roman de Tristan en prose and Les Miracles de Saint Louis. I coded these OF documents according to certain criteria: main clause type, embedded clause type, finite verb position, first element preceding the finite verb, etc. The results indicate that OF can be considered a true V2-language that shares a certain amount of properties with OHG, namely V-to-C movement, XP fronting, Stylistic Fronting as well as verb-initial clauses. This thesis illustrates that the OF dialects closer situated to the Germanic language border show a higher frequency in Germanic-like syntactic phenomena than the dialects situated further away. A difference between poems and prose texts concerning the presence and intensity of certain syntactic phenomena can also be observed.

Investigation of the anodes of PEM water electrolyzers by operando synchrotron-based photoemission spectroscopy / Etude in operando d’anodes d’électrolyseurs de l'eau de type PEM par spectroscopie de photoémission avec le rayonnement synchrotron

Saveleva, Viktoriia 29 January 2018 (has links)
Development of oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysts for proton exchange membrane water electrolysis technology depends on the understanding of the OER mechanism. This thesis is devoted to the application of near-ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (NAP-XPS) and near edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) techniques for operando investigation of the Ir, Ru - based anodes. For Ru-based systems, we observe the potential-induced irreversible transition of Ru (IV) from an anhydrous to a hydrated form, while the former is stabilized in the presence of Ir. Regarding single Ir-based anodes, the analysis of O K edge spectra reveals formation of electrophilic oxygen OI- as an OER intermediate. Higher stability of Ir catalysts supported on antimony-doped tin oxide (ATO) is related to their lower oxidation. This work demonstrates different OER mechanisms on Ir, Ru-based anodes involving anion and cation red-ox chemistry, correspondingly, regardless the oxide nature.

Agil Systemutveckling : En studie av kravhantering och beställarroll i agila angreppsätt / Agile System Development : A study of requirements management and client role in agile approaches

Hamed, Amirzadeh, Reza, Khalaf Beigi January 2013 (has links)
This paper is a degree project on the C-level, 15 points at University West, Department of Business and IT dept. Informatics. This study is about agile methodology and its impact on IT projects. Requirements management is a process within an IT project, where customer has certain requirements that must be met by an IT system. The difference between the traditional and agile development is in the requirements management process and it can cause problems in a project. Requirements change during IT projects and to manage requirements, agile principles apply. Specification and planning in the waterfall model is time consuming. Working agile means to have close contact with the client. This minimizes the risk of project failure. With agile methods, functions can be developed at a faster rate and the customer receives prompt delivery. There are currently several different methods for systems development and project management. Some are based on research, others are new and some have been around a long time in the IT world. This work has identified customer involvement; Risk Reduction and Delivery which contribute to several projects fail under traditional systems. Agile methods are flexible, agile and welcome change and the customer will be able to steer the project. Agile methods have however provided the opportunity for developers to more quickly deliver functionality to the customer.

Le complexe TFIIH dans la transcription effectuée par l'ARN polymèrase II et l'ARN polymèrase III / TFIIH complex in transcription mediated by RNA polymerase II and RNA polymerase III

Zadorin, Anton 28 September 2012 (has links)
In this work, two TFIIH-related phenomena were investigated : the influence of specific mutations in TFIIH XPD subunits on the transcriptional response of different genes on UV irradiation and the interaction between TFIIH and transcription of class III genes. For the first time the detailed investigation of transcriptome dynamics was carried out for the response of XP-D/CS mutant human cells to UV-irradiation. The transcription regulation nature of the observed selective gene expression dysregulation was clearly observed. Its relation to failure of transcription re-initiation and consequentheterochromatisation was demonstrated. SIRT1 histone deacetylase was identified as the main driver of the repressive chromatin establishment on the certain genes upon UV. Inhibition of SIRT1 was found to recover normal expression of substantial number of affected genes. SIRT1 mediated mechanism was shown to be XP-D/CS specific. A potential link between this longevity related protein and progeria features of XP-D/CS mutants was hypothesised. Genome-wide study of the involvement of the core TFIIH in transcription revealed its association with active class III genes, not described previously. This association was demonstrated to be Pol II-independent. The core TFIIH was shown to be directly involved in Pol III mediated transcription in vitro.
