Lobato, José Augusto Mendes 23 March 2017 (has links)
This research aims to identify, understand and analyze the strategies of representation of alterity in Brazilian television narratives, taking as specific objects of study the journalistic and serial fiction genres, in the formats of in-depth reporting and telenovela (soap opera). The defined corpus includes 16 editions of the journalistic program Globo Repórter and four telenovelas - \"Além do Horizonte\", \"Amor Eterno Amor\", \"Joia Rara\" and \"Salve Jorge\" - that address other countries, as well as biomes and communities in Brazil portrayed as exotic. Our approach combines theoretical references of language sciences, cultural studies and the specific fields of journalism and fiction theories, as well as scholars in the areas of narrative, image and television language studies, including authors such as S. Moscovici, H. Bhabha, M. Farré, J. Català, T. Todorov, S. Hall, K. Woodward, M. Foucault, V. Flusser, F. Jost, A. Machado, M. Gomes, E. Bucci, and M. Sodré. Among the basic theoretical-methodological concepts for the proposed analysis are those of social representation; narrative of alterity, designed as an opposing-complementary idea to the national narrative; evenemential image, which contextualizes the connection between the production of visual narratives and the organization of world experiences; and the notions of geographical and socio-cultural alterity, which indicate a way to examine the different boundaries between the \"self\" / \"us\" and the \"other\" in communicational processes. After presenting theoretical reflections on the fields of narrative, images and journalistic and fictional discourses, we will analyze the audiovisual material, focusing on three categories that allow us to identify the main resources applied to the representation of the other in television: (a) the strategies of authentication and production of reality effects based on a testimonial rhetoric; (b) the construction of oppositions and the demarcation of boundaries between the near and the distant; and (c) the interactions between fictionalization and factualization in narratives, driven by a type of configuration that takes alterity itself as the intrigue or conflict of a story at different levels of intensity. Finally, we identify eight strategies that work as structuring frameworks for alterity narratives applied to journalism and serial fictions on TV, reiterating the functions of reconfiguration and disciplining of experience in this field of representation.

A Giant's Quiet Decay: The Latency of Superior North

Brown, Heather Kathleen January 2012 (has links)
What happens after a place has been exploited, isolated, and neglected? What occurs when that place is bound – confined – by impenetrable voids of dereliction? Its core, slowing diffracting, with no opportunity to perceive outward – beyond the derelict terrain to the boundless expanses of earth and water that have perpetuated its vitality. And what then, if for a moment, this decaying place is given a view beyond these boundaries? Deindustrialization has invariably altered modern cultural conceptions of control over nature. The terrain remaining after decades of resource exploitation is composed of deep voids and fissures that reside physically, psychologically, and theoretically in-between the accepted realms of culture and nature. This thesis explores the perversion and dissolution of these two opposing realms within the sublime and fantastical derelict landscape of a declining town. Deindustrial voids are considered as both barrier and bridge; serving as persistent symbolic reminders of the volatile and hubristic relationship between culture and nature, and offering potential reconnection to the natural landscape of a city’s foundation. Reacting to collective nostalgia through memorialisation, totemism, and erasure, typical design interventions continue to prioritize cultural domination and emphasize the designer as creator in order to reassert control over the chaos of deindustrialization, often resulting in placeless infilling of the void. Ideas of extimacy, alterity, and ruination, with influences from the fields of industrial archaeology and landscape architecture, ground contemporary reactions to the deindustrial void and explore the role of landscape in the creation and fragmentation of ideas of place for the dissolving North American industrial city. Both inspired and situated within the declining former town of Fort William, Ontario, this thesis surveys an abandoned industrial corridor that encircles the town, severing it from the liminal water’s edge and landscape beyond. Viewed as a palimpsest, this site is considered beyond its most recent industrial usage to expose a place-specific natural/cultural terrain comprised of material and immaterial layers of evolution and exploitation. This thesis positions the architect as perceiver, hoping to inspire sensitivity, pause, and reflection and resists ideas of forced transformation as a means of outwardly expressing progress. It immerses itself within the in-between places that blur preconceived boundaries – natural and cultural, past and future, controlled and chaotic – in order to encounter the inherent existential qualities of a site in transition.

Warrington, Rachel L. 19 August 2005 (has links)

Χριστοδούλου, Μαρίνα 05 March 2012 (has links)
Skarimpas' sensitivity and general Cosmo-theory is mirrored at his poetry heroes and several identities. Actually the author, throughout his lines and the many characters he describes, winds up at self expression, externalization and comes at his own exhibition of feelings. At this project we will be able to see the complexion the woman (in many shapes it appears in society), as well as the shapes of the man, of the friends, of the dead people, the angelic and devil figures. We can also see the analysis of the environment and the general atmosphere in which figures act. At the fourth part, the gender of poems is created according the persons appear in them. At the fifth part poet 's technicals about description are given summarily. At the sixth part we can see the conclusions of skarimbas' human geography. At the end, tables are given in order to band together (a) the properties defining the figures, (b) the gender identity, (c) the environment. At the tables the titles of the poems are also given.

Rocha, Tiago Humberto Rodrigues 31 March 2007 (has links)
This research agrees to Freud s concept: to insert man in the social order around him and to analyze human relations, intra e inter subjetively established. It is a theoretical research using the psychoanalytical method, in which some notes are drawn from conflict points. This study starts from a brief historical context and it tries to trace the subjetive behavior that arises along human biographic story. This work attempts to do a deep analysis about alter relations that are established between human beings and the way they affect the desired moments. Our contemporary days have aticipated the action as a way to flee from sadness, part of human loneliness, creating many psychic configurations in relation to our present time. Actually, modern times demonstrate new configurations to showing pain, as well as, ways of facing it. In order to a better understanding of the processing attitudes among men and inside oneself, this work has the main objetive to think about a different meta psychological articulation to help us to understand the relation of contemporary arrangements created to deal with the feeling of abandonment and its results within the desired condition. Analyzing the relations among men and its limits, it is necessary to rethink about existing ideas such as pulsing and their vicissitudes, desire, id, ego, and super-ego, pleasure and other ones and to create different ideas from a free mind, open to new thinking. It does not mean to forget old theoretical ideas but to search new ways of subjetive thinking that coexist with the ones already known.

The aim of this thesis is to investigate in Guimarães Rosa’s narrative how the native and foreign characters relate, that is, verify if there is receptivity or rejection of the different, other’s empathy or refusal. The corpus consists of Rosiano’s texts in which German characters appear or stand out- the novel “Grande sertão: veredas”, the novel “O recado do morro” from “Corpo de baile”, the story “O mau humor de Wotan”, from “Ave, palavra- e ciganas”: the tales “Faraó e a água do rio”, “O outro ou o outro” and “Zingaresca”, from “Tutameia”. The procedure to reach the objective is to analyze the construction of this theme by narrative categories, centered on the characters and their relation to the story, the narrator, the focus, the space and, of course, the language. In this case, the exploitation of hybrids is emphasized. The results of the analysis of each narrative led to the possibility of comparing them with the constitution of the theme. The research is supported by socio-historical studies and cultural studies related to the foreigner and the immigrant, to the relations of alterity and identity. The authors and main works are: “Os processos de transculturação na narrativa latino-americana” (2001), by Peter Burke; “O local da cultura (2007), by Homi K. Bhabha; “Introdução aos estudos culturais” (2004) by Armand Matterlart; “Sobrados e mucambos” (2013) by Gilberto Freyre. We also based ourselves, for the character analysis, on the theoretical proposals of Antonio Candido in “A personagem de ficção” (2000) and in “Discurso da narrativa” (1972) by Gérard Ganette for the study of narrative categories. It is intended to demonstrate that the theme of the foreigner can be a new key for reading the Rosiana’s work, since its approach is understood as a project of universalization of the “Sertão of Minas Gerais”, making this literary space a Babel in which we can find the most diverse languages, cultures and alterities

Baendereck, Bruno. January 2010 (has links)
Como alicerce metodológico, utilizaremos a obra O Espelho de Heródoto do historiador François Hartog / Abstract: This dissertation proposes to analyze visions of alterity in the Mexican Highlands during the XVI century, contrasting cultural codes - both from indigenous and Spanish ancestry - in relation to the Mexica alterity. The period studied relates to the taken over of the Aztec capital, Mexico-Tenochtitlan (1519-1521), by the Spaniards until the dawn of the XVII century, a moment when a new colonial order was established in the region in question. Among the possible ways of understanding the Other, both the Spanish when confronted with the native inhabitant and the Tezcocano village's perspective (who made alliances with the Mexicas before the arrival of the European), intending to exploit both visions about the Mexicas. In order to do this, we will use the following sources: The Cartas de Relación by conqueror Hernán Cortés; Historia General de las Cosas de Nueva España by Friar Bernardino de Sahagun; a Relación de Tezcoco by Juan Bautista de Pomar and Historia de la Nacion Chichimeca by Fernando de Alva Ixtlilxochitl. Thus, we intend to map out the rhetorical mechanisms used by the selected authors in order to enunciate the Mexica and to reflect on the levels of depth in the descriptions regarding the idiosyncrasy of the Other. As a methodological tool, we will use the work O Espelho de Heródoto by the historian François Hartog / Mestre

[en] BETRAYAL IN DECONSTRUCTION: ON TRANSLATION, SUBJECTILE, DANCE AND BEYOND / [pt] TRAIÇÃO EM DESCONSTRUÇÃO: SOBRA A TRADUÇÃO, O SUBJÉTIL, A DANÇA E ALÉM

SÉRGIO PEREIRA ANDRADE 05 December 2016 (has links)
[en] What I propose is a crossing between traces of thought expressed by Jacques Derrida, with particular emphasis on translation, subjectile and otherness in order to create potential tensions between Philosophy and Dance, whilst at the same time reaffirming the gesture of unconditional betrayal of deconstruction. The notion of betrayal in Derridian thought appears as a no-ownership of all text in their irreducible process of a forcing of the sense in otherness. Such a conception opens up some incongruity for considering the scene from the writing as a mischievous crossing between the texts, an unconditional passivity within passage to the Other - which, for Derrida, is the radical sense of translation. From this perspective, it is interesting to discuss how the deconstruction movement in its upkeep of tension of difference can force a dissemination of thought that cannot be reduced to one, the identity of a unity, and its mechanisms of exclusion and denial of the Other. For that purpose, I assume an erring tessitura, and unconditionally, incomplete inter-texts of Jacques Derrida, Walter Benjamin, Antonin Artaud, Homi Bhabha, Freud among other authors that contribute to the inscription process of thought on the drive towards beyond. This idea does not look to reaffirm what they said or reported, or even have respect for them or desire to write like them, instead, inscribe them directly, in what is called they, subject, it, il. The proposal is a process overlap, altercation, impregnation and surgical operation on the skin that crosses authors-texts, throwing them on the deconstruction borders. On the borders, Philosophy and its men can also dance inside out, into double and non-dialectical gesture of contamination and disturbance between Dance and Philosophy, affirming the difference as a power of tension and crisis.
