Vöre järe vä pijtmåLe dett? : Vell dö hå`va ne kvar å vo jär dö då för å behååLe?

Risberg, Anna January 2019 (has links)

The computerisation of the genealogist's sources : what genealogical societies do and how they view the phenomenon

Boström, Linda January 2000 (has links)
The purpose of this MA thesis is to examine the computerisation of sources that are of interest to genealogists. The primary focus of the thesis is an empirical study, by using a questionnaire addressed to 118 genealogical societies in Sweden, in order to find out what kind of computerisation is being performed by these genealogical societies and what their opinion is of the computerisation of sources of interest to genealogists. The result of this questionnaire has shown, together with printed and electronic material, that there is a good deal of interest from genealogical societies in the computerisation of sources. About half of the genealogical societies who answered the questionnaire are computerising sources themselves and the societies have a positive view in general of the computerisation that is being done and of the increased usage of modern information technology in genealogy. There are on the other hand certain issues that are being discussed such as the important question of the quality of the computerised material. In this thesis the computerisation of public sources of interest to genealogists as a means to strengthen democracy by making public material, culture and the cultural heritage available to more people, and how genealogical societies can be seen as partakers in this process, is also discussed. Furthermore the attitudes of genealogical societies towards the computerisation of sources is seen in relation to the attitudes of people in general to new technology and to the concrete advantages and disadvantages of certain aspects of modern information technology. / Uppsatsnivå: D

Massdigitalisering och kvalitativ digitalisering : En jämförelse av digitaliseringen på nationalbiblioteken i Norge och Sverige / Mass digitization and qualitative digitization : a comparative study of digitization by national libraries in Norway and Sweden.

Nilsson, Christoffer January 2009 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to compare mass digitization and qualitative digitization, to see how the digitization process and the digitalized material differ. The study emanates from the mass digitization as it is performed at the National Library in Norway, and the qualitative digitization at the Royal Library in Sweden. The method used is document studies combined with mail interviews. The focus is upon the practical operation, to which counts: “purpose & selection”, “preparation, image capturing and processing”, “metadata & text encoding”, “quality assessment”, “storage of digital originals and copies” and “display”. The result showed that the mass digitization automatize the process as far as possible and uses uniform methods of whole collections. They have minimal preparation, processing and quality controls, if it doesn’t make the digitization quicker. During qualitative digitization the most parts are done manually, where every moment and object is prepared, processed and controlled considering what is best for the original. The result of the product of digitization – the digital documents – showed that qualitative digitization prefers aspects like caution and security, as they among other things uses the well established file format TIFF, and uses sufficiently high quality in methods to preserve all information from analogue documents, and store both processed and unprocessed versions of the digitization. Mass digitization is more insecure as they use the non-established file format JPEG2000, and the digital master is processed, compressed (lossless) and cut.

Blås bort dammet från de äldre boksamlingarna! : En studie om folkbiblioteks bevarande av bokligt kulturarv / Blow away the dust from the rare book collections! : A study about public libraries preservation of book heritage

Ottosson, Evelina January 2009 (has links)
The aim of this study is to examine Swedish public libraries preservation of rare book collections. In this study a rare book is rare when it become over a hundred years. I will investigate if libraries have any written policies or plans when it comes to preservation and also what the librarians’ opinion about rare book collections are. This is of interest because public libraries have a lack of responsibility when it comes to preservation. The librarians’ opinions will be based on Svante Beckman and Magdalena Hillström’s theory of museums four idealtypes. The four different types are the treasury, the archive, the school and the theatre. The theory then will let us see if the librarians think their rare book collections are subject only for the audience or the collection. I will examine six librarians from six different cities in Sweden. To my help I will use a questionnaire. There will be for example questions about aims, problems, visions and care. The study will then be based on a method of qualitative content analysis. The result of the analysis reveals that the majority of the librarians’ think their rare books are subject for the collections. They includes in the Treasury and the Archive. No preservation documents were written at the chosen libraries and there were only two libraries that had written something about cultural heritage and preservation in their library plans.

Nationellt uppdrag och internationellt samarbete : Nationalbibliotekens bevarandemetadata för digitalt skapat material / National Mission and International Cooperation : National Libraries preservation metadata for born-digital material

Mecklenburg, Martina January 2008 (has links)
The National Libraries task to save and preserve the national cultural heritage has turned to a new challenge in a digital world. The preservation of born-digital material for future use requires not only saving the digital object itself but also information about the object, preservation metadata. This is a relatively new issue and the library community has very little experience in this area. It has become evident that international cooperation is necessary to solve the task and that the development of international standards is of fundamental significance. This thesis investigates what has been done to meet the problems with the fast obsolescence of digital material with the focus on metadata. It examines the international collaboration in this area and the results. Ten European national libraries were inquired and their approach to long term preservation of the born-digital heritage concerning collection and strategies for handling of preservation metadata. The study shows that the Scandinavian countries began collecting with web harvesting while most countries in Central Europe work with deliveries. It is also shown that the regional differences are becoming smaller and that today most of the countries are following a combined approach. Web harvesting requires a different management of metadata than digital deliveries. However, within the different methods the solutions are rather close.

: Availability of early Swedish films for a broader audience

Nordh, Caroline January 2008 (has links)
Early Swedish films from the 1910’s and 1920’s are not only an important part of Sweden’s cultural heritage, but also an important part of the international film heritage. This period is often refereed to as the golden age of Swedish film history. Despite this fact, the possibility to watch Swedish films from this period is very small and the main purpose of this thesis is to examine why the availability of these films has such low priority in the Swedish film policy and at the Swedish Film Institute. With the use of policy analysis, I study governmental policies and policies from the Swedish Film Institute for early Swedish films and seek to identify the policy problem and its different parts. The conclusion of the study is that there is a lack of clarified policies and financial resources concerning early Swedish films. One of the major parts of the policy problem is that more power is used to preserve rather than make the films available for a broader audience and that digitalization of these films has a low priority. The definition of the audience and for whom the films has to be made available is also deficient in the policies. / Uppsatsnivå: D

Hembygdssamlingar på folkbibliotek : en undersökning av bibliotekariers attityder / Local history collections in public libraries : a study of librarians' attitudes

Bolin, Liza, Löfqvist, Fredrik January 2010 (has links)
Local history collections are fairly common among the Swedish public libraries and these collections often contain older or rare material. There are no national policies concerning the preservation of rare books at the public libraries, and the librarians of public libraries may lack that knowledge. The aim of this study is to examine librarians’ attitudes toward their libraries’ local history collections. We interviewed five librarians in the county of Västra Götaland and also made a small observation study of their local history collections. In order to research this we posed the following questions:• Which values of the phenomenon local history collections can be discerned among the examined librarians?• How do the examined librarians state their motives for the local history collection being at the library? • Which views do the examined librarians have on preserving and making the local history collection accessible? We base our analysis on the dichotomies of the cultural heritage ideals of Hazelius and Forsslund, presented by Annika Alzén. To determine what values the librarians have we created three dimensions to sort the librarians' responses in. In our study we found that all the librarians seemed to make accessibility a priority. The aspects of the local history collections that the examined librarians seemed to value the most were genealogical researchers, archives and cultural values. Their motives for the local history collection to be at the library were because the library can reach all kinds of users, and that they had expertise in preserving the materials.

The older collections meaning for the cultural heritage : A study of three libraries work with older material in relation to national rules.

Åberg, Daniel January 2012 (has links)
The aim of this study is to compare how three local librarieshandle their collections, and to compare this with handlingcollections at national level. I have investigated librarian’sopinions of their collections and how they take care andpreserve them for the future. It has also been studied if thelibraries collections of old material contains more than justold book rarities. In this study I had compared my respondents answer withSvante Beckman and Magdalena Hillström`s theory ofmuseum`s four idealtypes. Their view of a museum is in theforms of a treasury, archive, school and a theatre. Theanswers of the interviews are compared with the fourdifferent ideals from the museum, and from that conclusionsare drawn. The main method that I have used for this study isqualitative interviews that handle different aspects ofthis subject. My respondents have been four differentlibrarians from three local libraries in three counties. The results of the study were that all three libraries saw thattheir collections both have a regional and national value, andthey represent both the social and cultural history of thatcounty. Another result was that all three libraries felt that theaudience should have the pleasure to view both the originalof the collections and digital versions. Finally the studyshowed that the libraries would like that older collections inlibraries should get the same protection as Cultural Heritage. / Program: Bibliotekarie

Do It Yourself-kulturen på kommunala stiftsbibliotek : Personalens upplevelser och lösningar rörande avsaknaden av nationella riktlinjer / The Do It Yourself-culture at municipal diocesan libararies : The staff’s experiences and solutions concerning the lack of national guidelines

Ljungman, Sara January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to take a closer look at the five municipal diocesan libraries of Sweden and their lack of national guidelines. The study focuses on the experiences of the staff, what their opinion is about the lack of guidelines, how it affects their work and what kind of impact they think a creation of national guidelines in the future could have on the library and their work. Semi-structured interviews have been conducted with six librarians, or in one case a library assistant, during visits to each of the municipal diocese libraries. A qualitative contentanalysis, as described by Wildemuth (2009) was then applied to the results of the interviews. The results of the analysis show that there are six recurring themes. These themes are To increase visibility and accessability, The importance of networking, The lack of resources, To preserve or not exist, Believing in your circumstances while wanting to improve, as well as Regulatory documents and the Do It Yourself-culture. The findings of the study show that there is a strong Do It Yourself-culture among the Swedish municipal diocese libraries. The employees take the lack of national guidelines into their own hands and create substitutes, but show a clear interest in official national guidelines.

Hassel, Katarina January 2008 (has links)
