This project was carried out using a product development process for Mitab, a furniture manufacturer in Tranås. The company mainly produce products for public spaces. RAL is a chair in their collections and it is designed mainly for public spaces. There is a need to assemble the chairs with each other at different context. The purpose of this project was to develop a link between the chair seats. The main focus of the project was to come up with drawings and pictures that visualizes a solution to link RAL-chairs together. The project started with Mitabs need to join a specific chair model, laterally together. This need generated questions and a product development process was performed to finally result in a production friendly product. Inspiration and knowledge acquired through studying literature, observation of product development at the company, as well as visits to the furniture fair in Älvsjö. Interviews and tests were used in order to gather information about the problem. Several concepts were developed and evaluated together with the company. Combining functionality with a design that is compatible with the chair's design as well as a simple and clear design has been the purpose of this project. The result is a coupling seat that is hidden under the seat, and that is easy to use. The result was a concept of linking chairs together. The coupling is hidden under the chair seat when it is not in use. Plastic and steel was chosen as material and a prototype was produced which shows the form and function of the developed concept. The resulting drawings has led to a prototype. This prototype meets the requirements Mitab has presented at the start of the project. A cost estimate based on the concept note has been submitted and the total production cost of the chair coupling is far below the company's cost requirements. Work that remains is to test the prototype and evaluate the sustainability of the product and to evaluate any load requirements. Further detailed cost estimations should be done to obtain a more accurate pricing. / Arbetet har utförts som ett produktutvecklingsprojekt åt möbelföretaget Mitab. Företaget ligger i Tranås och jobbar huvudsakligen med möbeldesign och inredningsprodukter för offentlig miljö. Uppdraget har varit att ta fram ett lösningsförslag på en stolskoppling till en befintlig stolsmodell i företagets sortiment. Arbetets omfattning har innefattat framställning av en produkt från idé till ett färdigt förslag. Målet med examensarbetet var att ta fram ritningar och bilder på en fungerande produktidé som kopplar samman RAL-stolar. Vid projektstart delgav företaget ett behov av att kunna sammanfoga en specifik stolsmodell i sidled. Utifrån detta behov genererades frågeställningar och en produktutvecklingsprocess genomfördes för att slutligen resultera i en produktionsvänlig produkt. Inspiration och kunskap har inhämtats genom att studera litteratur, observation av produktutveckling på företaget samt besök på möbelmässan i Älvsjö. Intervjuer och tester användes för att samla in information om problemet. Flera koncept har utvecklats och utvärderats tillsammans med företaget. Att kombinera funktion med en formgivning som är kompatibel med stolens design samt en enkel och tydlig design har varit ett syfte med detta projekt. Resultatet är en koppling som är dold under stolsitsen och är enkel att använda. Resultatet blev ett koncept för att länka stolar tillsammans. Kopplingen är dold under stolsitsen när den inte används. Plast och stål valdes som material och en prototyp tillverkades som visar formen och funktionen av det utvecklade konceptet. De resulterande ritningarna har medfört att en prototyp har kunnat tas fram. Prototypen uppfyller de krav som Mitab har lagt fram vid examensarbetets projektstart. En kostnadsuppskattning baserad på konceptunderlag redovisas och den sammanlagda tillverkningskostnaden för stolskopplingen ligger långt under företagets kostnadskrav. Arbete som kvarstår är att testa prototypen och vidare undersöka material för att kunna utvärdera hållbarheten i produkten och eventuella belastningskrav. Mer detaljerade kostnadsberäkningar bör genomföras för att få fram en mer exakt prisbild.

A Study of Department Chairs in Two-Year Colleges: A Comparison of the 1992 International Community College Chair Survey to Department Chairs in the North Texas Community College ConsortiumGallagher, Judith 08 1900 (has links)
A study was conducted to gather information from department chairs serving in the 26 two-year colleges that are members of the North Texas Community College Consortium using the International Community College Chair Survey (ICCCS). The ICCCS is designed to gather insights into four aspects of the chairs' professional lives: personal characteristics, responsibilities challenges, and strategies. The study compared the demographic data and the respondents' perceptions of the challenges their units will face in the next 5 years to the original survey conducted in 1992. The regional sample included 616 first-line administrators, and a 30.5% response rate was achieved. The demographic distribution of the regional respondents shows significant shifts in gender, age, education, experience and release time but constancy in race and stability of the population. Similarities between the two samples exist regarding the challenges of maintaining program quality, providing technology, and managing financial issues. The regional sample expresses greater concern about the challenges of distance education, external accountability, and student matters.

Given a finite collection of words, we observe this sequence till the moment τ at which one of these words appears as a run. In this work we apply the martingale approach introduced by Li (1980) and Gerber and Li (1981) in order to study the waiting time until one of the words occurs for the first time, the mean of τ and the probability of a word to be first on to appear.

I Remember…, a series of drawings, is based on personal social experiences starting from the age of thirteen. This series begins with a memory of the first time I had to speak to a room full of people and the unexpected events of that followed. My own relationship with one of the primary subjects, the chair refers to memories of being raised in a home where certain furnishings were “off-limits.” Even more important is the presence of a cryptic narrative, fractured and dreamlike, similar to the style of writing created by Alain Robbe-Grillet. It has been a lifetime goal to create drawings that are interactive with the viewer. The baroque embellished chairs and piano provide a point of departure encouraging contemplative involvement by the viewer conceptually through imagery and physically through scale. Also, showing multiple viewpoints of the object simultaneously creates an atmosphere that is dreamlike and ghostly.

Vienas iš rizikos veiksnių – mokyklinės kuprinės, kitas – netinkamai parinkti mokykliniai suolai pagal mokinių ūgį.Tyrime dalyvavo Radviliškio Vinco Kudirkos 82 miesto ir kaimo pradinių klasių mokiniai.Tyrimo metu buvo naudojamos svarstyklės, siekiant nustatyti mokinių svorį ir į mokyklą tyrimo dieną atsineštų pamokoms reikalingų kuprinės daiktų svoris. Siekiant išsiaiškinti ar mokiniai, mokykloje sėdi pagal jų ūgį atitinkančiuose suoluose, tyrimo metu buvo matuojami sėdimi suolai. Interviu metodu buvo siekiama nustatyti mokinių įgūdžius nešiojant kuprines. Analizuojant tyrimo duomenis siekiama atskleisti mokinių harmoningo išsivystymo ir mokymosi aplinkos rizikos veiksnių įtaką mokinių laikysenai. / The Bachelor’s thesis analyses students physical development and risk factors influence for posture. One of the risk – school backpacks, other – properly selected school desk by the student's height.The analysis includes Radviliškio Vinco Kudirkos 82 urban and rural primary school pupils.The analysis instruments were used to determine the weight of students to school and study on the lessons brought along the necessary items backpack weight. To find out whether the students sitting in school according to their height corresponding to the transition, the study was measured seating school desk. The method was used to determine the skills students wearing backpacks. The analysis of the data to reveal the physical development of students learning, and environmental risk factors influence students posture.

The time frame was chosen because of the economic expansion that this city suffered in the 1920s and the consequences of armed conflict of 1930, which was originated in this city and spread over almost the entire interior of Paraíba, even this being this time of great change in public education and the state of Paraíba, both in expanding the supply, and also in its structure and centralization. The town of Princesa was born prosperous in 1921 and was regarded by some scholars as one of the most important city of the state of Paraíba in the 1920s, and with prosperity the number of public schools increased, being one of the first city of Paraíba to be covered by power state with a school group, a sing of prestige of the local political leader the deputy José Pereira de Lima and a sing of modernization, by the accumulation of capital from the cultivation of cotton, a product that has created wealth and prosperity for the elite of the location. The theoretical framework chosen has helped us to understand how was the contemplation of the schools by state power to municipalities in Paraíba, in special to the princesa municipality, as well as this municipality distributed the schools financed by it. New political history. At the time, personal relationships dictate the grating of the apparatus and not the real need of the population. Although the study period coincides with the expansion of school in Paraíba, our focus has concentrated on analyzing the isolated chairs, which in that period were far more numerous than school groups, and attended, considering the object of our study, a larger portion of population, especially in villages, districts and rural areas, given that school groups were allocated in the municipalities headquarters. To make this work we used reports made by board of education of Paraíba, decrees and laws of public instruction, as well as applications and receipts for payments of teachers who taught in the municipalities of Princesa from 1920 to 1939, as well as publications of the results of public schools and provisions notices and semiannual, and annual budgets of this city, minutes from town hall, among others, we infer when we analyze the documentation concerning with the provision of public schools in the town of Princesa, that despite of having a relatively high number of public school in relation to all public schools in the state, these were insufficient for the total population in the study period, and that most of those schools were maintained by the state and they were located in the city headquarter, in the district and in some villages, and that the more distant rural areas were not covered by state schools and the city did not offer power regular schools, offing them in isolated actions with no continuity when the local power used to change its leadership. / Este trabalho investigou e analisou o processo de escolarização em Princesa/PB entre os anos 1920 e 1939. O recorte temporal foi em virtude da expansão econômica que essa cidade experimentou na década de 1920 e as consequências do conflito armado de 1930, que se originou nela e espalhou-se por quase todo o sertão paraibano. Esse período foi de grandes mudanças na instrução públicas do estado da Paraíba, tanto na expansão da oferta quanto em sua estruturação e centralização. A cidade de princesa nasceu próspera, em 1921, e foi considerada por alguns estudiosos como a cidade mais importante do estado da Paraíba, na década de 1920. Registrou o crescimento do número de escolas públicas e foi uma das primeiras cidades paraibanas a ser contemplada pelo poder estadual com um grupo escolar, sinal de prestígio do seu líder local, o deputado José Pereira de Lima, e signo da modernização. O referencial teórico metodológico escolhido foi a nova história política, que nos ajudou a entender como se dava a contemplação das escolas por parte do poder estadual aos municípios paraibanos, em especial, ao de princesa, que distribuía as escolas que ele financiava. Na época, as relações pessoais ditavam a concessão dos aparatos, e não a necessidade real da população. Apesar do período escolhido em estudo coincidir com a expansão dos grupos escolares na Paraíba, nosso foco se concentrou em analisar as cadeiras isoladas que, nesse período, eram bem mais numerosas do que os grupos escolares atendiam, considerando o nosso objeto de estudo, a uma parcela bem maior da população, principalmente nas vilas, nos distritos e nas localidades rurais, haja vista que os grupos escolares eram alocados nas sedes dos municípios. Para compor este trabalho, utilizaremos relatórios da diretoria da instrução pública da Paraíba, decretos e leis da instrução pública, requerimentos e recibos de princesa entre 1920 e 1939 e publicações dos resultados das escolas e dos editais de provimentos e remoção dos professores e das professoras das escolas públicas do estado da paraíba. Pudemos inferir que, apesar de haver um número relativamente elevado de escolas públicas, em relação ao de escolas do estado, elas eram insuficientes para a população, no período em estudo, e grande parte delas eram mantidas pelo estado, localizavam-se na sede desse município, no distrito e em algumas povoações, as localidades rurais mais distantes não eram contempladas pelas escolas estaduais, e o município não disponibilizava escolas regulares, oferecia-as em ações isoladas, que não continuavam, e de acordo com os interesses das mudanças do poder local.

Il est patent que les objets de design, en particulier les objets d’ameublement que sont les chaises, exercent un rôle social dans l’espace privé et public, mais ils peuvent aussi fonctionner symboliquement et produire une expérience esthétique. Cette thèse mène une réfl exion critique sur le rôle du design à partir de bases pragmatiques. Ainsi que le suggère Nelson Goodman dans Manières de faire de mondes, les œuvres d’art sont loin d’être les seules choses qui symbolisent. Notre travail consiste à montrer que les chaises, en tant qu’objets de design peuvent aussi fonctionner communicationnellement. Ayant constitué un corpus de 11 types de chaises selon deux critères caractéristiques du mode d’évaluation et de qualifi cation des œuvres de design ‒ l’innovation et la diff usion ‒, nous analysons les chaises comme des natures mortes, en tant qu’objets isolés. Et c’est pour mieux montrer ensuite la relation intime existant entre le corps d’un usager et la chaise qui devient alors un objet vivant, riche de cette relation. / It is clear that objects of design, especially design furniture in the case of chairs, not only fulfi ll a social function in both the private and public spheres, but they can also take on a symbolic role and produce an aesthetic experience. Based in pragmatic thinking, the present thesis aims to develop a critical line of questioning for studying the role played by design. As Nelson Goodman claims in his Ways of Worldmaking, works of art are not the only things that can symbolise. Our goal consists in showing that, insofar as they are objects of design, chairs also function communicatively. Drawing from a corpus of eleven diff erent types of chairs, put together according to two characteristic criteria related to the evaluation and description of works of design – i.e. innovation and distribution – we fi rst analyse chairs in terms of still life, that is to say, as isolated objects. This preliminary analysis allows us to underscore, in a subsequent move, the intimate relationship that prevails between the user’s body and a chair, which now becomes a living object, one that is enriched by this very relationship.
