Pojkar och flickor i barnlitteratur : En studie om genuskonstruktion i skönlitteratur för barn

Jägare, Lotta January 2012 (has links)

Det frånvarande i det reella inflytandets närvaro : En studie om möjlighetsvillkoren för barns inflytande i förskolans pedagogiska praktik / The absence in the preence of a genuine influence : A study of conditions possibilities for children´s right to participation and influence in the pedagogical practice of early childhood education

Tinglej, Therése January 2014 (has links)
The purpose of this graduate work is to seek knowledge about how children’s right to participation and influence is interpreted and understood in a specific context and also to examine how this right can be conditioned and shaped by the pedagogical practice of early childhood education. The focus of this study has been to examine the arguments and attitudes towards the right to participation and influence as a pedagogical practice as it is understood in early childhood education. Additionally, I have been interested in studying the affordances and restrictions that early childhood educators experience when dealing with children´s right to participation and influence. The platform used for data collection is Facebook and the informants recruited were active participants in forums regarding democracy in preschool education. In the second phase of the study I conducted online focus groups with these participants. For the analysis of the material I have adopted a poststructuralist perspective, starting from Jaques Derridas philosophical texts and use of deconstruction. The results show the complexity in early childhood education´s democratic mission. What becomes clear is the importance for the teachers to adopting an open, ethical and democratic approach in order to make children´s right to participation and genuine influence possible in the everyday reality of early childhood education.

The whole world shook: shifts in ethnic, national and heroic identities in children's fiction about 9/11

Lampert, Jo Ann January 2007 (has links)
Like many other cataclysmic events September 11, a day now popularly believed to have 'changed the world', has become a topic taken up by children's writers. This thesis, titled The Whole World Shook: Ethnic, National and Heroic Identities in Children's Fiction About 9/11, examines how cultural identities are constructed within fictional texts for young people written about the attacks on the Twin Towers. It identifies three significant identity categories encoded in 9/11 books for children: ethnic identities, national identities, and heroic identities. The thesis argues that the identities formed within the selected children's texts are in flux, privileging performances of identities that are contingent on post-9/11 politics. This study is located within the field of children's literature criticism, which supports the understanding that children's books, like all texts, play a role in the production of identities. Children's literature is highly significant both in its pedagogical intent (to instruct and induct children into cultural practices and beliefs) and in its obscurity (in making the complex simple enough for children, and from sometimes intentionally shying away from difficult things). This literary criticism informed the study that the texts, if they were to be written at all, would be complex, varied and most likely as ambiguous and contradictory as the responses to the attacks on New York themselves. The theoretical framework for this thesis draws on a range of critical theories including literary theory, cultural studies, studies of performativity and postmodernism. This critical framework informs the approach by providing ways for: (i) understanding how political and ideological work is performed in children's literature; (ii) interrogating the constructed nature of cultural identities; (iii) developing a nuanced methodology for carrying out a close textual analysis. The textual analysis examines a representative sample of children's texts about 9/11, including picture books, young adult fiction, and a selection of DC Comics. Each chapter focuses on a different though related identity category. Chapter Four examines the performance of ethnic identities and race politics within a sample of picture books and young adult fiction; Chapter Five analyses the construction of collective, national identities in another set of texts; and Chapter Six does analytic work on a third set of texts, demonstrating the strategic performance of particular kinds of heroic identities. I argue that performances of cultural identities constructed in these texts draw on familiar versions of identities as well as contribute to new ones. These textual constructions can be seen as offering some certainties in increasingly uncertain times. The study finds, in its sample of books a co-mingling of xenophobia and tolerance; a binaried competition between good and evil and global harmony and national insularity; and a lauding of both the commonplace hero and the super-human. Being a recent corpus of texts about 9/11, these texts provide information on the kinds of 'selves' that appear to be privileged in the West since 2001. The thesis concludes that the shifting identities evident in texts that are being produced for children about 9/11 offer implicit and explicit accounts of what constitute good citizenship, loyalty to nation and community, and desirable attributes in a Western post-9/11 context. This thesis makes an original contribution to the field of children's literature by providing a focussed and sustained analysis of how texts for children about 9/11 contribute to formations of identity in these complex times of cultural unease and global unrest.

Empatisk kommunikation i förskolan : Ett vinnande vertyg i förskolan?

Karlsson, Sandra Kouassi January 2015 (has links)
The purpose of the study was to investigate if empathic communication (see definition further down) can contribute to children´s participation in a preschool environment. The purpose is answered through my research questions: Does the preschool teachers work through an empathic approach, and if so how is it manifested in their cooperation with the children? Empathic communication in this context is equated with the term non violent communication; (nvc) an approach and a model of communicating with empathy, compassion and openness, which in itself, may contribute to less violent language and actions among children and adults, as well as greater cooperation and participation levels in their activities. The empirical data for this qualitative theses was collected through two interviews with two preschool teachers working in one nvc oriented preschool. I used semi-structured interviews, which is characterized by open questions and a curious and open attitude for me as an interviewer, where I tried to follow the interviewee by asking follow-up questions. Another part of the material I collected through non-participating observations of twelve children and one preschool teacher, in their everyday activities in a nvc oriented preschool. The theoretical understanding is based on the socio cultural perspective, a theory used to describe awareness of circumstances surrounding individuals and how their behaviors are affected specifically by their surrounding, social and cultural factors. This perspective also relates to how we communicate, understand, relate and cope with one another. The three socio cultural concepts cooperation (described through Vygotskijs theories), children´s participitation and empathy, (all parts of the nvc process), are presented and  described as a ground for the analyze of my empirical data. The Results presents the observations and the interviews, analysed through the social cultural view, in line with Vygotskijs theories of cooperation, as well as through the implication of the concepts children´s participation and empathy. The results are also discussed in the sight of the results of two research surveys, presented in my essay, one investigating the effect of using the nvc as a model in preschools, the other one investigating children´s particiaption in a preschool environment. The conclusions of the study are that empathic communication (nvc) in many ways, can contribute to children´s participation in a preschool environment. This is seen in the interviews and confirmed in the observations; in the children´s behaviors, preschool teachers approach and the unity in their cooperation. The results of this study is also confirmed by other studies in the research field. However, to consolidate my conclusions further, more and deeper studies in this area is needed.

Bästa samlingen är att bygga en raket av papper : En emprisk undersökning om barns inflytande och delaktighet under samlingen i förskolan

Hjelm Agelou, Maria, Willsson, Annika January 2015 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to emphasize the democratic term. We wanted to study how pedagogues act and deal with their own feelings, when they meet the thoughts and feelings of the children around the topic gathering in preschool. Our starting point was the answers from the interviews we held. Our questions were "What do the children and pedagogues think is the purpose of the gathering? How do the children and pedagogues experience that influence and participation are given to the children on the gathering? How do the children and pedagogues see to children`s participation on the gathering? Do the pedagogues experience the gathering from the children´s perspective?" We interpret the answers with Husserls phenomenologic theory to get closer to the subjective feeling. In our studie we have discovered that children´s and pedagouges view on influence and participation do differ. We also included children´s perspectiv to the studie. The pedagouges view on children´s perspective involves the preconception of how the preschool´s activity´s should be done. Our conclusion reads: The children do not only need to be heard. They need to be listened upon to be able to create a feeling of the democracy´s parts, where influence and participation are important aspects in our society. Where everyone´s value should be equally considered, regardless of age or any other entities of the power factors.

Percepce seniorů dětmi / How children perceive seniors

KADLECOVÁ, Jaroslava January 2009 (has links)
Abstract In the theoretical part of the thesis, there are explained the basic terms: old-age, senior, infancy, children and age, and later are described psychopathological problems, both physical and psychological. The author aims to focus on the terms of loss and decline, which are usually joined with the old-age. Nevertheless, the emphasis is put on the fact that old-age is not an illness but it is important to adapt to it, eventhough it is a period of serious losses. Later in the theoretical part of this work, the author describes the former and current approach of the society to the old-age, disadvantage of the retired people, their discrimination in the mass media and the consequential fear of the old-age. In the chapter called ``the perception of seniors by their family,`` there are explained the terms nuclear and extended family and the difference in the family´s approach to seniors in the past and nowadays. Then, there are described problems related to the current family, e.g. the lack of physical contact with elder people and the relationship between children and seniors. The chapter ``the relationship between children and grandparents`` deals first with the positive contribution, which is evident in the sufficiency of time, the transfer of traditions, the intervention of the historical background and gained experience, and second also with the negative influence such as boycotting of the parental authority, untrue stylization or the total lack of interest in grandchildren. The chapter ``children´s drawing`` was included in the work because it was later used in the practical part. Children´s drawing makes it easier to express the child´s feelings and their relations to their environment. The author also mentioned other available materials and researches about the same or similar topic. In the practical part, the author researched the artistic expression and verbalisation of the children´ s relationship with seniors. In total, there were interviewed twenty-nine pupils who attend the second and the third class of primary school. Children´s drawings and their answers were examined in a non-standardized questionnaire. The people in the drawings are mostly set into some environment, which is mainly nature. The seniors visible in the drawings are usually passive and they are illustrated with some tipical attributes such as a cane. The questionnaire included open, close and also spectrum questions. The answers are worked up in graphic charts in the appendix no. 2.
